Face Place

One of the most overrated & disappointing salon experiences that I’ve ever had in NYC. The guy who did my facial was not friendly did nit explain a single question i had.
Their signature facial was a letdown. They don’t use any creams, they just put a bunch of «wraps» on your face, and then stick a big leather device on top of your face There are no relaxing shoulder or neck rubs, all you get is a very basic facial (given the price you pay, this should be included) with a strange electrical pulse thing they put on your face, which in my case was not hookied and didn’t work.
My skin didn’t look very different after the service.. OVerall, I felt ripped off coming here.

I loved this place! I used to get the iderm treatment in Seattle and haven’t for 2 years. My aesthetician recommend I come here and I was impressed. The salon was relaxing and modern. Angela was wonderful and was very attentive and gentle. The treatment lasted 1.5 hours and was so relaxing!

I came here for an 80 minute facial. I really didn’t enjoy the overall experience or the facial itself. It was rushed, it felt like a dentists office where I only had 15 – 20 minutes of actual hands on treatment and I didn’t love the results. I’ve had great facials in the city and was trying something new — this is not worth the money. Icing on the cake is that they put you in a narrow stall next to another client (the woman next to me happened to be talking on her phone!) and leave you for 20 minutes at a time.

I had a Gilt certificate for a facial and made an appointment with Isaac. The staff is very nice and courteous and the place is beautiful. The facial was not overly impressive, however. Just your basic facial, some extractions, etc I would definitely not go back for a full price

The staff and aestethicians are very corteous and proper. I had a Gilt voucher for a facial. The facial was very methodic and You can see how Face Place has a very unique school of thought however while thorough it still did not get rid of all my clogged pores and blackheads as I was hoping.

Purchased a Gilt City voucher for this place. Excellent facial with Angela. She was able to get every blackhead out without pain. I agree with the previous poster. I also liked that the facial focused on the just the face. It was gentle and thorough. I was blotchy leaving but the irritation went away after 30 minutes.
Only two negatives: Weird position laying on the table. Don’t wear a dress. Your legs are positioned on top of a high wedge and because it had partitioned walls and an open ceiling, you could hear every conversation going on which was a little irritating. Didn’t get any product after sell which was great. Wouldn’t hesitate going again.

Today I had a facial with Angela, who was such a pro. She was able to work diligently and quietly, which I prefer, and only spoke to describe the steps of the facial.
I have gotten facials for many years and the FP is different in its approach… there is no pampering. Just thorough extractions (without steam) and moisturization without thick masks. No neck and shoulder massage either, as the focus is only on the face. My complexion looked great after!
The only big miss is that your treatment is given in small sectioned suites that are just walls and open ceiling where you hear everything (including the receptionists chatting) in the vicinity.

I had a facial with Tom. He was very pleasant but I did not enjoy sharing a room with someone else.
It was a typical facial, nothing special. I felt relaxed afterwards which is about all that a facial does. Except for extractions, which make your skin look better in the short term, there is absolutely no scientific evidence that facials have any long lasting effect on one’s skin. .
I’m amused to see how many dermatologists have jumped onto the facials bandwagon when the doctors know fully well that the treatments have little to no effect. I guess money is money. $ 125 plus tip here.
You could have an awfully nice lunch for the same expenditure.

Went here to Tom — amazing guy who did an amazing job. My skin glowed for weeks afterwards. Thorough extractions and great treatment made my face looks its very best. Love Face Place and love Tom. Can’t say enough good things. (As someone else did note though, there is not a «spa» experience to be had here — it is a clinical facial designed to make your skin look good)

There’s not much new I can add to this from the other reviewers. From my perspective, there wasn’t anything earth shattering at this place except for the wraps and devices they put on your face. My face came out clean and I was happy with the results but I didn’t come away with feeling like 1) I know more now about my skin before I got there and feel equipped with the knowledge and tools I need to keep my skin in better shape and 2) that I really want to go back. The rooms aren’t closed off near the ceiling so you can hear everything that goes on elsewhere so if you’re looking for quiet relaxation, you won’t find it here. I will note that I’ve been to this place more than once so my review is based on more than one visit. My search continues for the best facial in NYC…

Very interesting treatment and approach. I have very sensitive skin and It survived this place. I was still very red post treatment and peeled a couple of days later as usual — but got better results then with other places.
I would def consider going back.

If you’ve already been blessed with clear skin, then you will enjoy this place. The facial is made up of a lot of soothing techniques, the extractions aren’t even worth squirming for and there are some unorthodox texhniques. Is it thorough, sure, but if you have problem skin it does not get the job done. I rather ditch the comfort and get some results. Everyone was pleasant, but I need clear skin.

believe it or not, this was my FIRST facial ever. booked with tom. he said to me, «ooh, how exciting!!» tom told me how most facial places give a relaxing feel but don’t really get down to business to clear your face as well. he was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions about the history of the place, etc.
face place started in LA (so if i wanted to go to that one when i get home… tom recommended tony). sally hershberger, the hair stylist who made meg ryan’s shag cut famous, wanted to have a face place in NYC. so she lent her name to the business making it easier to get clients from the get-​go.

it was a really relaxing experience. gentle, deep cleansing. when other friends of mine have had facials done, their skin is red, blotchy for a couple days. or usually people say that they look better after a week. i left feeling refreshed with radiant skin.
the following day, my face felt soft and smooth. it is twice the price i would like to pay… hence the 4 stars. i’m glad that i spent the money though because i’m on vacation.

I just can’t say enough good things about this place! Best facial ever. Made me feel like a million bucks. Kate is by far the most knowledgeable, attentive aesthetician I have ever encountered. Why aren’t all facials like this?
She did everything so calmly and gently that it was as relaxing as getting a massage. The facial was a little different from what I had experienced in the past (much more thorough) but she explained everything and just made me feel completely at ease. Afterwards, I could see and feel a big difference in my skin. Kate is a treasure – I’ll definitely be going back.

i’ve left spas (ughhhm, bliss) with facials that left me looking like a tomato for a week! At SH, the beautiful redhead, Karen, is great… I was worried with a photoshoot two days later that I’d have a reaction to the facial – she was so gentle. And my second experience with Kate was awesome! It was a yummy experience.

My first experience at Sally Hershberger Face Place was fabulous. Thank you other reviewers for pointing me to THE place for a fantastic facial. I have tried another spa since my experience (see my Bliss review — «bad idea») and I vow from now on to never stray. The aethetician — I believe it was Kate — was so attentive, so gentle and so caring with my skin. The treatments are innovative and get results. Additionally, they never push products and Kate actually recommended some new things I could try online that would help my skin.
Nothing but love!

Last week I had the best facial I’ve ever had! As a person with problem skin I get facials slightly more often than the reg. person. The face place may have just changed my idea of facials forever… the facialist, Tom, was absolutely beyond polite and didn’t make me feel bad about my skin and the way that I handle my skin problems the way that every other facialist has. I usually leave the spa feeling slightly embarrassed because I don’t have the skin of a beauty model. Anyway, feelings aside the facial was way less pain-​inducing (extractions, ouch!) with just as many results and my skin feels great now. Since I have specific problem breakouts it was recommended that I return 4 weeks in a row to clear up the issue and then I can return once a month. That’s a lot but when I called, the facialist even got on the phone to check on how my skin was doing. I just think they know their stuff and put an art into dealing with skin rather than just performing routine tasks of their jobs. there’s nothing better than someone who cares about their job. yay!

sally sally sally… if you’ve got the cash give it a shot, just make sure you can keep going back. stylist to the stars charges $ 600 for a cut, but it is worth it. for equally great cuts you can try edris salon across the street for a fraction of the price. it seems that they are rivals of sorts. raawr!

I read about this place in Vogue, and it is the best facial I’ve gotten in NY. Sally Hershberger of $ 600 haircut fame joined with The Face Place in West Hollywood and opened another store in the Meatpacking District. For an hour and 20 minutes, they clean, extract, and then galvanize (?) your face, which left my skin feeling so soft and clean. I did get roped into buying their product, which I absolutely love. The facial was reasonable ($ 120), and I’ve already booked a third one with Cailin.
