The food is good, people are nice, service is good, but WHAT’S UPWITHTHECHAIRS? DISGUSTING! I remember this place 10 years ago. I seldom ate or ordered food here because of the chairs. I was working in the area,(One month ago) went here one night, and got fixated on the chairs again ! Should I really be eating here? I sat in the window, not on the chairs. One cloth chair, has two large dirty shoe prints where someone was standing on it, with god only knows on their shoes! Get some new chairs! 10 years? Come on!

Ok!!! If you are craving some dirty… hood Chinese food while you happen to be working in your stuffy midtown office — like I am… follow the receptionist and all the cleaning staff to Fo Ying’s! — that’s where us struggling folk are having lunch… Decided to give them a try — after my receptionist gave me 2 thumbs up on their chicken/broccoli lunch special… Being from Brooklyn… and a Chinese take out connoisseur… I’d have to say. it takes a lot to impress me… the chicken needs to be real… not the slime that some pass off… the fried rice needs to be fresh… dry. and with veggies… *not wet/soggy… …I also need to see those prepackaged cut with edges carrot slices in the mix as well… Throw in a rude Chinese woman in the front of the house — and we’re in business. I found all of my trading floor’s cleaning staff chowing down on some Chicken wings with fried rice… beef with broccoli… and lo mein… and a few bankers picking up orders as well… all is good in the hood… ah hem… sorry… 8th Avenue… *but that’s hood ain’t it? I enjoyed my Chicken/Broccoli lunch special with egg roll for $ 5.85 *plus tax is $ 6.37… And in the words of my hilarious coworker… — Fo Ying’s is Fo Sure…

It’s got everything you expect from a midtown takeout joint. Dirty ass interiors. Indifferent staff that seem annoyed to deal with you. Greasy ass food that will do wonders to your colon(and or anus) Cheap as hell Maybe it’s because I speak Chinese to them, but generally they don’t treat me like dog shit, which is always welcome. I’ve seen other customers get treated with far more disdain, but that’s none of my business. What I do know is this, they serve okay take out, but even for a mediocre joint of the same tier, their food is more subpar than the places I used to order from on the UWS or the East Side. Much of it has to do with the fact I find their roast pork fried rice to be greasy but not very tasty(which is somewhat hard to do). I don’t do the Western thing where I drizzle soy sauce on my rice(and frankly you shouldn’t have to) in order to make it palatable. I can make the same exact dish at home with a lower flame(a big no no for fried rice) and less grease than what they dump here. If you can’t even do fried rice right, jeez! The beef w/broccoli is just meh also. It’s not particularly flavorful and it’s also greasy as shit. Again, this isn’t Tang Pavillion or Mr K’s so I am not expected gourmet food. But at the very least get the easy shit right! If you’re dying for takeout, I guess you have no reason to say no to this stuff given the low prices, but there are better joints elsewhere. Also beware — if you are crazy enough to eat here, be prepared to smell like the underbelly of a greasy wok when you leave. Just standing there waiting for my order made me feel like one giant nasty ball of grease.

We were staying in Hell’s Kitchen last weekend and stopped to pick up food here on the way back to our hotel one night. The staff were very friendly and nice and I was hopeful for a good meal despite some of the reviews on here, alas I was disappointed. Very bland and greasy, not great at all.

This is the standard Chinese take out fare that you would expect to find much further uptown, but is a nice surprise in such a touristy and expensive area. If you’ve been to any before, you should know what to expect here: decent tasting, super greasy, and really cheap. My go-to is the chicken fried rice which is like the ones I gorged on in college in West Philly. If that’s what you’re expecting, you won’t be disappointed. Anything more and you might.

I REALLY wanted to like this place since it’s so convenient. Had(on multiple hopeful occasions): egg roll; shrimp roll; shrimp/broccoli &garlic sauce; white & fried rice. Pros: hot food fast; very friendly; location Cons: fried things VERY greasy/soggy; default shrimp is baby and it’s not indicated; sauce seems to be tossed over pre-made food; not very flavorful; fried rice very old-tasting

2 stars seems like all that this place could earn. Kinda much below average food with dumplings having a very thick layer which takes away the taste completely, plus who writes a shrimp roll on the menu and sends a fried roll, in a weird smelling oil. Add to all this their sauce, a drastic red colored sauce with bad ketchup as its base. this was a total disaster.

HORRIBLE customer service. I placed a large order and there was huge a confusion once we got there to pick it up. The lady behind the counter decided to change up the order and as a result one person did not get their food. I called to have the situation rectified to only be yelled at and treated disrespectfully. I was shocked at how rude everyone was mainly because we frequently visited this place. I assured them that we would never return mainly because of the poor customer service. Very disappointed.

Me: ‘Chicken chow mein, please.’ Guy behind counter: ‘Do you know what chow mein is?’(He was also not pleasant and seemed to hate life). WTF?!? Does everyone get that question? His tone was like, «All you stupid Americans come in here and order chow mein and then yell at us because we don’t give you noodles. You are stupid and I’m sick of it.» A discussion ensued about what«chow mein» is. He claims chow mein is only vegetables. WRONG buddy. Look it up: Plus I’ve been eating chow mein for 50 years. Don’t tell ME I don’t know what it is. I thought I’d try it anyway so I order chicken chow mein. Theirs comes with rice, in a separate box. I get back to my hotel room and the«chow mein» box contains all vegetables, NO chicken.(Just sauteed vegetables, nothing else). I call them up and say I ordered chicken chow mein and I got all vegetables. He says«You ordered vegetable chow mein.» STRIKETWO. I certainly know what I ordered. Also — do you remember our entire discussion where you patronized me? The one about chow mein? Not only that, but — don’t you think I KNOW what I ordered? No, I’m not stupid. How can YOU tell ME I ordered vegetable chow mein? EPICFAIL. So I had vegetables and rice for dinner. OK I guess if you want vegetables and rice, but DON’T go calling it «chow mein» when it’s not. Call it «vegetables and rice.»

What I love about Chinese take-out is it’s just so darn cheap(in contrast to all the other ethnic foods in NYC). But what I dislike about Chinese food is also that it’s just so cheap! How do my people afford to feed their families and make a living when they sell their entrees, apps, etc for half the price of what other joints sell their foods and include double the portion-size? Aiyah… When I think Chinese take-out(being a transplant New Yorker), I think SATC and to-go white take-out boxes delivered fresh to your home so that you can sit on your couch and gab. Of course, my life’s not like that, but at least I can have the take-out every so often. :) Onto the FOOD(yes, I capitalized that for those of you growing impatient with my review.) Tofu with mixed veggies: Broccoli is perfectly soft and marinated in the brown sauce and it includes an assortment of veggies(snow peas, green bell peppers, cabbage, carrots, mushrooms). Really, you can’t ask for more from a dish that’s $ 4! I can’t even imagine why anyone would need the large portion when they include SOMUCH in the«pint» size. Beef lo mein: They were out of chow mein so I ordered this. What is the difference? I have no idea… Basically, this is like the noodles you get from Panda Express(but thicker) or the garlic noodles you get from Gyu-kaku but of course being a «Chinese take-out» joint, it’s DOUBLE the size and HALF the price. Cheese won-tons: OMG, they serve 8 gigantic cheese won tons(the most enormous ones I’ve ever seen in my life) and they’re pretty good. I like how the cheese is just the perfect amount of sweetness. However, they could’ve done better with the crispyness of the batter. ah, thanks Fo Ying for working so hard to produce food which is fast, tasty, and quite the deal.

This place is bomb. Quick chinese takeout indeed. I used to work in this area and sometimes in manhattan just like the option of getting a place with«street chinese food». People do not order tofu here. You come here for Chicken Wings in garlic sauce with Fries or pork fried rice for 5 bucks. Yes even in manhattan the prices are not that bad. At the office I used to work some people would ask if you were going for street chinese or some other place. Yes, this place does have a decent menu. I hope to visit again some day soon. I didn’t think I would find such an inexpensive place in the theater district. The fries are good here too.

Pretty decent Chinese takeout in Midtown West/Fashion District/Theatre District/Area of Expensive Food. It’s a small takeout joint: no bells, no whistles, but a decent heating system, and an apparent set of regulars. Fo Ying has a decent lunch special: meat, fried or white rice, and an egg roll or soup for a price in the vicinity of five dollars. Portions are good: filling, but not that kind of filling where it hurts. There is even room to sit and eat your meal while people watching. I do believe, while eating here, my companion and I saw Justin Bieber. Fo’ srs. The food is quite good. Rather than the food just being assorted chicken chunks in a slightly sweet glaze, the food contains real vegetables. The Kung Pao chicken seemed like a mixed vegetable medley: carrots, peppers, water chestnuts and more in the sauce. The white rice is also very good… not too hard, not too soft. I’d say it’s a safe bet.

Fo Ying epitomizes the jenky-ass shack, Chinese take-out restaurant. The food is also inline with expectations from a typical takeout: cheap, fast, and not really Chinese at all. Sesame chicken tends to be the best way to gage these places so I got that. Although the wonton soup that came with it had wonton skins thicker than skin on an athlete’s foot, the sesame chicken actually had more chicken than breading and the breading was still crisp. The sauce wasn’t too bad either. This place is cheap, fast, filling, and semi-decent; it’s good to go.

What used to be known as «Fu Ying» is now«Fo Ying» one of the popular Chinese delivery spots along 8th avenue. In fact, the«o» in the lit sign outside seems to be brighter(because its newer) than the rest of the letters. There are a few tables for sit down chow downs but they primarily concentrate on their super fast delivery service. The prices are cheap, the food is solid and the variety is about the same as the other delivery places out there. If one can tolerate their subpar phone manners and the Chinese craving is too much, then this place will do.
