Fred Astaire Dance Studio

My fiancée and I also came here for a dance lesson to get ready for our first dance after having our first lesson at the Fred Astaire in Murray Hill. The experience here was horrendous from start to finish! At least 4 times throughout our 45 minute lesson the instructor stopped us to give his speech on class packages, telling us he’d really recommend us spending over $ 1000 on a package of lessons. After telling him we would think about it the first time, he continuously stopped the lesson to try and convince us to spend more money. Then, as we were mastering what he was teaching us– we wanted to keep learning more and the person behind the desk gave him a signal as if to say «don’t teach them too much in one lesson» so we continued to practice the same steps over and over, even after asking him to continue. A TOTAL waste of money and time. We felt totally ripped off and did not return to take more lessons. Steer clear!

My fiancé and I came here for a dance lesson in preparation for our first dance at our wedding. I’d like to point out that our instructor was very nice, and I would be happy to work with him again, but I will never come back here because the woman at the front desk (Tatiana) was unbelievably rude.
We had a gift certificate for the intro package (which consists of two lessons and one social practice session) and Tatiana told us that we had to upgrade to the wedding consultation (which is one lesson, and costs $ 47 more) even though their website clearly suggests the intro package as a viable option to learn some steps for your wedding dance. But we wanted to make sure we got as much as we could out of this experience, so my fiancé handed her his credit card. I asked another question to clarify the difference between the two options and her response was a very annoyed «Do you want me to charge this or do you want me to explain?» So I asked her to explain. She did, we reluctantly paid the extra, and went on to have the lesson.
On the way out, my fiancé stopped to ask her a question and she asked how our lesson went. We answered that it went well. She then turns to me and looks smugly at me over her glasses and says, «You’re in a bad mood today, aren’t you?»
I’m not sure when basic human courtesy went out the window, but that is not a woman that I’m interested in dealing with or paying exorbitant prices to. We’ll be going elsewhere. We’ve already made appointments with a very nice woman at Wedding Day Dance across town who was very sweet and extremely accommodating. Imagine that.

I always loved dancing socially, so six years ago I decided to take some private lessons at this studio to improve my salsa. It was so much fun that I continued on to learn the waltz, viennese waltz, foxtrot, cha cha, argentine tango and rumba. The dance instructors and staff at the studio are very friendly and professional. The dance lessons are tailored to your personal dancing goals and style. Taking a dance lesson here is the perfect way to end your day.

Five or six years ago I presented my husband with a short series of lessons at this studio. My husband told me that it wasn’t really a gift for him but he would, reluctantly, take the lessons with me. From that first lesson on we knew that «dance night» would be a priority. We went from people who rarely got up to dance at weddings to a couple who are now often the first on the dance floor. Our instructors (currently Sonya and Collin) have always been patient and encouraging which made us feel less and less self conscious about dancing in public. Our friends have been amazed at our dance skills and how we keep improving. As we add new skills to our repertoire and perfect old skills we continue to look forward to each and every dance night.

My wife and I took dance lessons here before our wedding. We did one of their packages and had two very top-​notch instructors. Everyone was extremely friendly and we didn’t feel intimidated even though we had no idea what we were doing when we first came in. We may have made some mistakes on our actual first dance, but thanks to the lessons we got here, I don’t think our wedding guests had any idea.

Lots of fun. Staff was very patient and have great instructions. Class Packages are expensive.

Currently taking dance lessons with my boyfriend. Good lessons. Good teachers. One-​one-​one instruction. They switch you between a male instructor and a female instructor.
If you’re ten minutes late for your 45 minute private lesson, your lesson is 35 minutes. No buffers between lessons.

Really friendly and qualified staff. I DON’T dance and am pretty afraid to. But they made me feel very comfortable, and prepared a great routine for my wedding. Highly recommended.

If you need to learn how to do a few dance steps before a big event, say a wedding, this is the place to come. After a few lessons we were able to wow the guests of ours at our wedding. A great experience to get a few steps under your belt.
