Gap

This is actually about my online experience with Gap, although the reason I shop online is because this location, near my home, is so frequently out of stock on items I want to buy. The underwear I opted to purchase was on sale (buy 5, get a special price) and in addition, today only, there was a special 35% off on items that were Gap products (not from another manufacturer), I read the exclusions carefully and was pleased to see my purchases qualified, even though they had a sale price. Bear in mind I have a graduate degree and spent my career in publishing – so I know how to read! However, when I went to purchase the items, the popup said «Discount is valid but not on this item». Twice. I could not determine in any way, shape or form how this didn’t qualify. But there you are – and since the sale price was still a good one I continued the purchase. But this is the second time this week this has happened to me – I’m looking at you, Bloomingdales. I complained to their customer service department and got some murmurs of apology, but frankly, this is a trend and it sucks. Stores hype these «special promotions» but won’t apply them even after a customer has carefully read the exclusions. Hint: if you’re offering a one-​day special, it would be helpful to post a note on items that do not apply «THIS ITEM DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR SPECIAL ONE DAY PROMOTION. You would do that if you cared about the customer experience. Which obviously, Gap does not.
So, thank you, Unilocal,and every other review media for providing a place for customers to vent. Gap has some good products and good prices – but the instore and online shopping experiences leave a lot to be desired.

Big gap in customer service. Very few salespeople to be found and they don’t know their stock. Buying a gift and when I asked for a box, was given a giant bottom and a small top. I pointed this out to the cashier who hadn’t noticed. Had to complain until I was given tissue paper. And an appropriate gift box. Gap — you need to provide adequate training and management. Also, make sure the staff is happy.

Line moves quickly, staff are SUPER helpful (I mentioned that I’d like to get a second pair of their pants while they were on sale in store and TWO sales people happily checked the back AND other stores for me after finding no more on the shelf on the floor in my size. Super helpful staff are really easy to find, and they’re great about exchanges. Well organized store and often well stocked too (except during sales, but that’s to be expected). Tanisha is my hero right now for finding me a second pair of those amazing work pants. Amazing service!!!

Gap Kids is my go to spot to buy a present for all the kids in my life. I have been outfitting the nieces and nephews here for years. Great quality, good price. And all moms are happy to get a Gap gift for the baby!

Rude employees! When you ask for their help, they make it like they are doing you a favor and it’s annoying their day. Went there the other day to get some basics and from the start I felt uneasy. I probably should have left, but I was in the area and there are no Gap Body’s by me.
A list of what happened:
–An employee was putting clothing on a rack and actually pushed into me as I was looking in the same rack. She seemed to be in a rush, and I said ‘excuse me’ and she gave me a nasty look like I bumped into her. So I stopping looking for clothing and just decided to get what I came for.
–Then I found some basic shirts and wanted to try them on, an employee named? (hispanic, big girl) was at the fitting rooms and was so very rude to all the shoppers I could not believe it. She was grabbing things from people’s hands and was nasty to me. And asking, ‘you done yet?’ (Can’t believe it right?!?)
–Then I waited on line for about 30 minutes, and there were only 2 people on line! (there was one sad guy employee ringing up people and he must have been new bc he was ringing up one person for like 15 minutes). And the manager walked by and didn’t jump on to help.
–Then a guy in front of me asked another employee, an Asian girl named Olivia if she could ring him up and she looked up and with the worst attitude said, I’m not on the clock. And snickered away. He turned to me and was in shock of the attitude.
–I think he may have said something about it to the manager because I heard him say, «sir you’re just going to have to wait, she’s not working yet and I don’t have time to ring anyone up» just as rudely as the girl employee.
–as I was finally being rung up (by now the rude employee, Olivia– that much time has passed) she was throwing my stuff in a used bag aggressively (might I add). Like she was giving away the clothes. I had an item on sale and it didn’t ring up as such so I said, ‘isn’t that on sale?’ And she looked at me like I told her I killed her cat. And said, ‘no! and the manager will say the same thing’ (I didn’t even ask for the manager at that point).
I don’t know what type of pre-​shift pep talks the manager gives their staff, but I believe it goes like: «be as rude as you can to people, constantly make them feel awkward, and not wanted here. Oh and if we dare catch you smiling, you are fired! One last thing, be as aggressive as you can with the clothing. We do not, under any circumstances want return customers to this gross establishment.»
Honestly, I’ve been to this Gap twice and it seems like they have a rude culture that management supports that I’m not cool with, nor want to spend my money at. It’s a shame, because I like the clothing.

Gap at flatiron is miserable. Lines are always stagnant every single time I’m here. U go uptown just to avoid wasting about 30 min standing in line. No managers ever around

This location sells Maternity but really it is just a small section near the registers. They do pack in the variety into that section but I wish there was more. It also feels a little weird to shop right next to where everyone is waiting in line. I felt kinda watched. The fitting room was crowded and a bit messy/​disorganized. I was told I could only bring in 6 items but they didn’t actually count for me so I handed them half my pile and they just kinda shoved it on top of other clothes piles they had going. I wasn’t so sure it would be there when I wanted it but I was able to retrieve it — after some digging. This location is convenient from Union Square (go out the exit by 15^th and Union Square West).

Huge store, tons of space to shop between the tables, shelves and displays, and great deals. Staff super friendly and helpful.

Super aggressive cashiers. I get it that they probably get a commission each time they sign someone up for a Gap credit card, but do they have to be so damn pushy? Yesterday, «Alexis» rang up my purchase. He asked me a dozen times if I wanted to the Gap card despite the fact that I already have one from its sister company, Banana Republic. At first, I politely declined even giving him reasons as to why it is not in my advantage to have two cards from the same company. But he kept going on and on and on like a broken record. I was so fed up with his aggressive marketing that I finally had to say, «NO! How many times do I have to tell you that!!!» It pretty much shut him up but at the end of the transaction, he threw the receipt along with the clothes at me. I really should have spoken to a manager about his appalling behavior but I just wanted to get out of there.

Zomg, a total wonderland of preppy sweaters, cute accessories and fantastic clearance deals. I’ve always been a fan of the GAP (regardless how rare their locations are becoming), and me oh my did I just find myself lost after 5 seconds.
Despite the chaos of shoppers, the store remained organized, the SA’s attentive and polite and the items fully stocked. Fully recommended.

Basic pieces to build your wardrobe.
Affordable prices, even better when on sale.
Frazzled staff who seem rushed or annoyed.
Great selection of items, trendy and basics.
Body, kids, men, and women pieces.

Store was very clean and organized with very nice and patient salesclerks.

Comfortable. Reliable. Durable. What more do you need?
I’m not one to follow the latest trends. I want comfortable clothes that fit well. I want clothes that I can wear for years. This is exactly why I shop here. My favorite pair of jeans are from the Gap and they are 8 years old. I wear them all of the time and they just keep getting better and better.
On my most recent trip to the Gap, I had a $ 50 gift card from Mom. I expected to get a new pair of jeans, and that’s what I got… FOR HALF PRICE! They are brand new, comfortable, and exactly why I went in there. But it didn’t stop there. I found an awesome robe on sale for $ 24, and I still had $ 3 to spend. The girl at the register suggested I turn around and grab a pair of half-​price underwear. What a great idea! She was excited for me, and she was hilarious.
So my $ 50 gift card stretched pretty far. I got what I wanted, plus 2 bonus items. Score.

This is the best Gap in Manhattan.
Large store.
Open layout.
Stocked shelves.
Organized.
Sale items clearly marked.
Friendly staff.
Numerous cashiers.
Bonus– Women/​Men and Kids shops are all connected. No need to go outside in order to visit each store.

I have been wearing this brand since I was 10 years old…
Never goes out of style, I still have one of my sweaters for over 10 years, I love it!
Prices are affordable, but when it goes on sale… it’s DIRT CHEAP!
Jeans are made to fit me, so I feel Setsay!
Staffs here are O-​K. (If you don’t see your size in the rack, then go ask them, and they will answer you back «that’s what we have left, nothing is inside the stock room»).

This store really annoyed me. They put up a huge sign that says 40% off. When you go into the store, none of the sale items are marked and are mixed in with full price items.
Gap’s overall quality has declined over the years and the prices have gotten very high. Get over yourselves guys, you are Gap not Saks!

As a soon-​to-​be-​mommy, it’s a lot of fun to leisurely meander through GAP Kids and squeal at all the adorable baby clothes they have. The upstairs has attire for older kids, while downstairs is for the babies (now in my personal opinion, I don’t entirely understand why they wouldn’t make the babies section UPSTAIRS so that pregnant women wouldn’t have to waddle down a flight of stairs to do some shopping, but that’s just me). Anyway, they consistently have sales and a wide selection of clothing for all kinds of fashion senses, and the staff is really friendly.

This is probably one of the better Gaps to go to. They always have plenty of sizes and it’s never really packed.

I’ve been here a few times, and they usually have a decent sale section, and more importantly, no matter how mobbed they are (not too often), they’re pretty good about replenishing and clearing their messes.
Very attentive and jovial staff — my sister went ape shit on one of the cashiers about a discount and he handled himself very well.
The area in the the back by the dressing rooms is actually a great WiFi hot spot, presumably from the Barnes & Noble within the vicinity. I downloaded a song onto my iPod while shopping. Is this not the future?

But your staff members were all very cheerful. The cashier was particularly helpful by letting me get two discounts — to ultimately save the most money — and by directing me to the closest Banana.
(Better styles for this fall, too!)
