I started taking Capoiera two weeks ago with Formado Nick and Mestre Kiki in their other location in Chinatown(62 orchard st) on Mondays and Wednesday nights. Class at this location is taught Saturday from 12 – 1:30pm; the first hour is spent warming up, and practicing/learning moves and typically the last 30min is spent in the roda ‘playing’(which is where you get to put all the moves you learned into play). Formado Nick is the instructor Saturday’s and he is great at teaching beginners and keeping everyone injury free.-And he and the class have been very welcoming to new comers. If you are looking for a total body/mind reset this is your sport– and most importantly these are your people. Additionally, the studio we practice in is nice, clean, in a really easily accessible and safe neighborhood and has all the tools to train safely and effectively.

For someone that’s completely new to capoeira, I was surprised at how easily I was able to follow the instructions. The instructor caters it really well for both beginners and those that are more experienced. Secondly, it was a lot of fun both learning to play the ‘game’ and learning the history behind it. Definitely set it apart from other forms of physical activity. Lastly, I was extremely pleased at how great of a workout I got out of the 1 and half hour class. Will definitely be going back for more!

An extremely fun class that will get you moving in ways you never thought you could. The teacher is very energetic and looks to push your boundaries physically, emotionally and spiritually. Great to go as a group.
