Gorilla Cheese is one of the OG food trucks of the recent food truck boom. I’d never gotten a chance to try them, and seeing as both my go-to options weren’t around(55th& Broadway food trucks), I gave this a shot last Friday. There was a bit of a line but I didn’t wait long. Service was also very friendly. I did the $ 10 deal with a sandwich, tater tots and a canned drink. I got the #11 cheesesteak melt with steak, american cheese, caramelized onions and ketchup on white bread. This was a decent sandwich but I could’ve easily made it at home. The biggest issue was that there was barely any steak. Seriously guys? You can’t put like 2 more slices of meat on this thing? At a certain point you’re just gouging customers based on a novelty. The cheese was run of the mill, while the onions(again, sparse) were nicely caramelized. The ketchup’s inclusion was better than expected but still unnecessary. The tater tots were simple but very enjoyable; they were probably the high point of the meal. Bottom line, the prices here are way high for grilled cheeses that, while they’re alright, are far too small and basic. You can do worse than this for sure, but it’s really not worth it unless you have a strong hankering for some grilled cheese.

I ordered from here in Queens; I got the macaroni bites because everything else was too expensive. Anyway, I like the concept: deep fried pieces of macaroni. It was sort of greasy, but not bad. I may order some more stuff next time.

From outside 1 Park Avenue. Had the Pulled pork Grilled Cheese which was recommended by the person along with the buffalo chicken. Food quality was so-so. Pretty generic. The cheese tasted more like the usual cheese you’d find on a Grilled Cheese. It was 10 bucks with generic tater tots and a can soda. Nice guy but the food is meh.

I stopped here back in October for a quick dinner and I was pretty disappointed. The sandwiches have very little ingredients and are expensive for what you get. The sandwich tasted fine, but it was very skimpy. I wouldn’t come back here again.

After hearing all about this place on Cooking Channel and Food Network I was excited to give it a try. Myself and my friend who was with me we’re both very disappointed. The creativity of the sandwiches were wonderful but the execution was not. They messed up my order and actually included an item I asked them not too and the sandwiches were flat and lifeless. The taste was there but it was so thin and not filling. My friend had the same problem with hers as well.

Delicious grilled cheese with great bread and very good preparation. It was cooked really fast and the service was excellent. The tater tots were delicious as well. They were nice and crunchy on the outside and warm and chewy, as tater tots should be, on the inside. The only thing is that the meal is upwards of $ 10 — not worth it for a grilled cheese! Nonetheless delicious, but not going to be a regular customer.

This place isn’t bad. But you’re getting your corner deli grilled cheese for 5x the price. That’s all.

Look at the pic I am attaching I got a tomato end on a $ 10GC? That really is horrible quality and the sandwich tasted like garbage.

Saying their grilled cheeses are sub-par would be a compliment. It was burnt and tasteless. It took FOREVER to get one sandwich, they forgot an ingredient and the truck kitchen was dirty. I don’t normally write bad reviews but this was pretty terrible and wish I could get my $ back.

Ordered: Cheddar with killer crumbled bacon on wheat bread Pros – Best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. The bacon wasn’t fatty and the sandwich wasn’t overly greasy. Cons-No store location.

Disappointing. Picked up lunch while they were downtown in FiDi. First of all they didn’t have tater-tots available. Secondly the turkey and cheese simply wasn’t worth the price. It’s basically a tiny panini. I had high hopes… but was just hangry a hour later.

Encountered these guys in Long Island City. I LOVE grilled cheese, so my wife and I stopped. We were both very underwhelmed. What they provided was a sad excuse for a grilled cheese loaded with a mound of bacon bits. Bacon is supposed to make things better — not here. I feel like actual slices of bacon would help create a stronger sandwich.

Hello cheese!!! Who doesn’t love cheese?! I duno why the star rating is so low, my sandwich was nothing short of stupendous! I got the today’s melt with a drink & tots for $ 9, steal! Today’s melt was: muenster, bacon(good quality bacon & they didn’t skimp on it), jalapeños & chipotle sauce on white. Everything was excellent! My sandwich was melted perfectly, there were plenty of jalapeños, lots of juicy bacon, & not too much sauce to mask any flavor. The tots were also awesome. The gentleman cooks were all very kind & flashed me lots of smiles. I had a very short wait & I was off to enjoy this cheesy goodness!

Two Cheddar Pork Gorilla Grilled cheese sandwhiches $ 8 each. Thank goodness I also bought these sandwhiches because Nuchas would’ve left use starving. At least this truck gave us a hearty cheese sandwhich that could sustain us. Nuchas had better food, but it was only enough to feed a greedy seagull. I would go to both trucks again, but this time I would be fully aware of what i was getting:} I looked down after I ordered and noticed a puddle large enough to soak my Nike Air Max Tennis shoes. I mentioned the puddle to the man on the truck and he could’ve cared less! One man stepped after me and thank goodness he was wearing a Timberland type boot so he was able to step closer to the truck than I dared to step. Welcome to NYC:}

Burnt, low quality and overpriced. The meat on the Philly cheesesteak was so cheap I had to scrape it off to make it through the rest of it. Don’t know how you ruin grilled cheese.

This food truck wasn’t too bad. After a long cold night of running I decided to grab a bite from this truck. The mac and cheese bites were really great Id pick some of those up again any day but my sandwich was some what disappointing. I ordered the #5. Pulled pork on wheat bread with cheddar and caramelized onions. Sounds amazing I know but it wasn’t. The wheat bread was toasted just a bit too long and something else was off as well. I think it was the caramelized onions, they were probably something out of a can. I probably wouldn’t stop by here again but if I did Id stick with the mac and cheese bites!

So so disappointing… could have great… but they burnt it… I mean black on the outside… thought about bringing it back… but didn’t want the next one to be «special«… I just won’t ever stop there again… yuck

So I was at a Bat Mitzvah a few weeks ago at The Manor in West Orange. Food was great, DJ was great, etc etc etc. Had an overall great time. At the end of the night I walked outside to hand the valet my ticket and THEREISWAS! My heart started beating a bit faster and I felt my saliva starting to build. Now, I don’t know about you but nothing says«OMG» like walking out of a fancy affair to find the Gorilla Cheese truck awaiting you at the end of the night. I really don’t eat much and never, ever put food in my car so I asked if I could have just a bite. He handed me ¼ of a grilled cheese sandwich and I was instantly in love, happy and content all at the same time. Thank you, Gorilla Cheese and thank you Jillian. The only thing better than late night delicious grilled cheese is late night FREE delicious grilled cheese. You guys rock!

Looking to try something new for lunch I came across the Gorilla Cheese and decided to jump on it. After I placed my order I took a look on Unilocal and started to become nervous seeing it only had 2.5 stars. The lunch special gets you a sandwich, tots and a drink for $ 10. I opted for the #6 which is cheddar with pulled pork, onions on whole wheat bread. The tots were really good, nice and crispy without being greasy. The sandwich was a hefty one and I dug right in. There was a nice amount of pork filling the sandwich which had a nice tang, but I thought it would have been a bit cheesier. The bread was grilled perfectly so it had just the right amount of crispness to it and just like the tots, it was not at all greasy. All in all it was good and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Probably one of the worst grilled cheese sandwiches I’ve ever had. Tomato soup was underwhelming too. Not worth the money at all.
