If you are looking for the most authentic form of Yang family Tai Chi Chuan, then come on by. However, be warned, there’s a lot of hard work ahead. It can also be addicting! So come ready to work. But if you are looking for a soft, relaxing, shut-you-brain-off, no sweat activity… Please go somewhere else. I promise there will be no hard feelings. This is real kung fu.

This school follows the Classical Yang Family Tai Chi Chuan lineage and uses traditional teachings to build as well as refine one’s internal energy. This internal strength lends to practical applications inside/outside the school and throughout life. Having studied under various forms of martial arts(taekwondo, shaolin kung fu, etc.), I have never felt stronger than I do now. Sifu Gim is an extraordinary Master and the students are a great group that learn and develop as a family.

At H Won Tai Chi, nothing comes fast, so patience, perseverance, and dedication go a long way in making your efforts to learn Tai Chi successful. But if you do persevere, you will learn Tai Chi, and you learn it well. Methodical and careful instruction, taught one on one, is part of the formula and is essential in learning Tai Chi. The ultimate goal of the teacher, Sifu H. Won Gim, is in helping you develop your own internal power. The«long» form, exercises, weapons training, dynamic and static push hands are all essential parts of the curriculum. You will find no better teacher than Sifu Gim.

This school teaches Tai Chi Chuan in its purest and most traditional form. If you’re looking to learn internal martial arts in New York City, look no further than Sifu Gim. Despite Tai Chi’s popularity there are exceedingly few masters who truly know and practice this profound with its original intent and curriculum. Developing internal power is a long, subtle and demanding path but under Sifu Gim’s direction you will gradually but surely cultivate it — even people like me who struggled for years to develop the energy using other methods before discovering this school. This school represents a rare, precious opportunity to study under a direct lineage holder and master of the legendary Yang family style of Tai Chi Chuan.

The best in the Tri-State and well beyond… no hype and no joke either. This is it! They teach Tai Chi here the old fashioned way at the H. Won Gim school. It can be vigorous and intense at times during your training, but you will realize that Tai Chi Chuan is not the dance that so many think it is. If you want to learn Tai Chi the way it was intended to be learned and taught(one-on-one personal instruction) then drop by this place and see what’s up. They are a nice group and they take what they do seriously… but with a smile. Advice though: stick around for a bit if you decide to be a student and take things slow. You will learn a lot if you do. Patience goes far as does hard work. The master who runs the school– Sifu H Won Gim– is one of the best tai chi chuan practitioners you will find anywhere– US, China, Europe, wherever.(Check out the videos on the schools link: ) No, this school is not one of the highly advertised, attention-grabbing kwoons(that’s like ‘dojo’ but the Chinese version) that have entered the popularity contest of the NY internal martial arts scene, but I can guarantee that the masters of those other schools know very well of Gim Sifu and his abilities. If you are on the hunt to find TRUE internal martial arts, look no further. Be humble and patient… and have fun.
