Am not a fan of this halal cart. Pita was soggy and the chicken and rice tasted gross. It’s a lot of food for just $ 5 but really not worth it. I’d rather pay $ 2 more for good food.

This cart is amazing for a few different reasons. First of all I love the Halal Guys, and that’s who most people compare this cart to. You get just as much food here, if not maybe a little more, plus a drink, for only $ 5. The guy has amazing service also! Now to the important part which is the food, yes, it’s better than the Halal Guys. I think it’s more flavorful, but of course that’ll depend on what that means to you. We enjoy the Lamb platter and chicken platter. If you’d like you can get it half and half for the same $ 5 price. All I can say is give it a chance, you won’t be disappointed. He’s not that far from the Halal Guys on 14th either! I posted a picture of the platters we got today.

Hands down the best halal cart in NYC. Fair prices and, if you get Saleem to cook your meal, excellent customer service. Helped me get through all kinds of nights during my time at NYU.

Agreed with the 5-star reviews. I rarely eat at carts, but Salib on the left side is very skilled. Quality is always excellent.

I got the Falafel and Rice which also came with a salad and fries. They smothered everything in yogurt sauce and spicy sauce(after asking if it was ok). The falafel was pretty crispy, the rice was flavorful. They pack a lot of food into a small to-go container, but I managed to eat almost all of it. This is great food if you have somewhere to sit and eat it. I had to stand on the street in the cold which wasn’t ideal. It made me wonder if they have a restaurant location. Regardless, I would rather have good food standing up in the cold than mediocre food at a nice comfy restaurant.

I’ve tried a lottt of different halal carts during my couple years in NYC. But let me tell you, all the other carts are pike false prophets and this cart is the real deal. Not only do you get a free drink with a purchase of a plate, which only costs 5 dollars, but it’s by far much better tasting than all the other ones I’ve tasted. Along with the lettuce and rice on the side, you also can ask for potatos and they also give you pita bread on the side as well. The best bang for your buck compared to anywhere else. If you’re close by at night, as for Saleem, because that guy will remember your face after the first time and is one of the nicest guys I’ve met. Stop paying so mcb for the halal guys hype train. This cart is the bomb diggity.

One of the best Halal trucks in NYC. If I had to compare it to Halal Guys, I would say that Halal Guys has its appeal as it is less spicy(in the flavor sense)/flavorful and more generic. But the flavors in the food that this place serves is fantastic and beats Halal Guys by a mile. It’s 5 dollars for plate with chicken, fried pita, saffron rice, potatoes, vegetables, and topped with white sauce with a free drink. And I had it all the time while I was in NYC for an internship. But what really won me over is the great customer relationships. Three people take shifts here and my guy was Selim who works the night shift. Everytime I came with my roommate he knew exactly what we are going to order and starts it before we even have to say anything. Everything about this place is awesome. I highly recommend this Halal truck!

I can safely say that I’ve eaten at a good portion of the halal carts in New York. This is a result of me going on somewhat of a chicken and rice diet in my younger years ;). I have been coming to Salem since my sophomore year of college – not just because his chicken and rice is THE best, but also because he is incredibly kind and friendly. Don’t forget to ask for the curried potatoes because they are amazing! No matter where I move in NY, I always find myself going back to this cart.

Typical Mediterranean food halal style but comes in big portions. I had the combo regular size platter and it was filing and tasty with the white and hit sauce. The yellow rice had a nice taste to compensate the spice.

Words cannot even describe the significance that this halal cart has to me personally. Located in front of the University Hall dorm and Trader Joe’s, it is a well-known icon for any NYU student, as well as a popular grub spot for the local community. Selem, one of two brothers who runs the cart, is a wonderfully warm and awesome guy. And his halal is what I consider the best halal in NYC. Seriously, if I want halal, Selem is the only guy I will ever go to. His halal is perfectly cooked and seasoned, generous on the meat, includes potatoes and he even has a green spicy cilantro sauce that is the bomb. I was a frequent regular at his cart and I consider eating at this cart and getting to know Selem one of the rites of passage for any NYU student and any member of the East Village community.

YO. This is the best halal food! I’ve probably eaten at more halal carts than I have fingers and toes. These brothers(Salem and Hassam? Totally forgot the brothers name) are super hard working and they also give you the best quality and quantity. Halal guys is super over-rated and pricier for just it’s name. If there was a place you have to go for halal day or late-night. Come here. $ 5 for Chicken, Lamb, or Combo over rice with FREE drink. (Plus they give you cucumbers, tomatoes, grilled onions, nan, and curry-potatoes!) It’s super filling and they have more options than just the white sauce and hot sauce. You have to get the green, chutney(cilantro) sauce! It’s awesome! It’s less spicy than their hot sauce, which is also good, but also another addition. Come here for halal food all the local NYU students and people living around the area should tell you the same thing!
