It’s really not very good. Service is great, but the food isn’t good. A third of the menu was crossed off in pen and when I choose something not crossed off, I was informed that my selection was also unavailable. I’m really disappointed and won’t be coming back again.

Although there a lot of Chinese restaurants in Morningside, many of them have poor reviews. I decided to give this one a try because the reviews weren’t bad. I ordered the General Tso Chicken. I should have gotten it extra spicy because it didn’t have a lot of flavor. I ordered delivery and it was under 30mins. I would definitely order from this place again.

It’s hardly to find«real» Chinese restaurants in NYC and this one is an absolutely crush. Don’t get confused by it’s look — — Just step in there and try something, anything. If you are not getting there just ask for recommendations, the manager Robin is super friendly and nice. More important — -he always recommend the good one! Price is reasonable when you bring a friend or two. Seat’s comfort is ok but sometime the space is tied when they become busy — — -but who cares! The Fish Head w. Copped is the best I had so far in NYC, so is their Free Range Chicken w. Chili & Beer, just ask for their secret menu!(They don’t usually show for the customers who come here the 1st time) Definitely will come back so long as we still live in New York city!

Soggy general tsos chicken, and they messed up my order and charged me for something I ordered but did not receive.

Real Chinese food near Columbia University. Happy to find this steamed shrimp dumpling in Hunan cuisine. Good place for all flavour Chinese food. The price is amazing!

This was on of the yummiest Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in the city. I ordered the red pork and frog dish under the Hunan specials section. Both dishes were delicious and authentic. The waiters were typical Chinese waiters(no fuss, no frill), but I don’t mind much. Come here if you want the real deal!

The best Chinese food I have ever tried in the UWS, and the price is really amazing. Highly recommend its lunch special, tasty with a reasonable price. Good choice for those who wants to try spicy delicious Chinese food.

I love this place! Great authentic Chinese food for an amazing price! Having just moved here from Los Angeles, I’m not used to the high prices here, especially for Asian food(I mean $ 9-$ 11.50 for a Phở?! That’s crazy!). I found this place off Unilocal, and I saw the great reviews and decided to give it a try. Given my recent move, my budget has been tight so it was nice to see that the food was priced within my budget I was so impressed! The staff is so nice and speak perfect Chinese. I ordered to-go Ma Po Tofu and Hot and Sour soup through Eat24. They actually ran out of the Hot and Sour Soup, but they traded it out for me for the Spicy Cucumber Salad at no additional charge. Everything was really good, I’ve been back again to order the Noodle Soup(so good!), and finally got to try their Hot and Sour Soup(which actually was only mediocre, but can’t complain cause the price was great and it still hit the spot on a cold day). Can’t wait to try the other things on their menu!

I don’t typically write reviews but here goes. We were out for walk and decided to give this new place a try. Sure glad we did. The food was awesome. Highly recommend stopping in and trying it out.

Very good place to have a Chinese lunch or dinner. I love spicy food. Hope to see more authentic choices in the future, including drinks.

Wow, the menu tells you right away that this place is special — spicy frog, fish head braised in chili broth… don’t waste your time on Sesame chicken or general tso’s. Unfortunately, some things are a bit salty and greasy. And this is coming from someone who likes salt. Also, even a dish described as «mild» spice is still quite spicy. We got the mustard greens, which were excellent; the cumin lamb, which was very flavorful, the crispy chicken which was too spicy but would have been perfect if we had known to ask for less peppers or if we had been ultimate chili lovers. Only the hunan noodles were disappointing — greasy and lacking in flavor. I will definitely try this place again, just ask them to back up on the spices and salt. We got delivery and it was delivered quickly and everything was still quite hot. Note for people recommending this restaurant –please state which dishes you liked! Just including pictures doesn’t help.

I lived in Changsha, Hunan for four years and I always crave for spicy food. The food here is really tasty and it is authentic Hunan style. Also, the waiters here are really friendly. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to people who want authentic Hunan style food.

I’ve been waiting for a good chinese restaurant to open in the UWS. In a neighborhood populated by Americanized Chinese places, Happy Hot Hunan lives up to its name. I had the lunch deal(v. cheap), which is soup, rice, tea, and a good selection. I picked the Hunan Stir fry with pork(number 3?). The knife work was excellent(perfectly julienned peppers and matching pork strips). It was a little oily, but that just makes it taste more like my family’s cooking. Service was pretty good. They also bring you a real pot of tea(so good!) and you can ask for the fresh vegetable stir fry. I got the pea shoots off the menu and they were pretty good. I’ve also ordered delivery from them before and been more than satisfied with the portions of my orders. I really hope this place stays open and maintains their Hunan/spicy specialty. I noticed a couple patrons here(mostly Chinese people eat here, which is a great sign) ordering the soup dumplings. Not certain if I trust soup dumplings because Hunan is one of the spicy food provinces, but I’ll try them next time.

Food was alright, a bit salty, but the service was relatively poor. Waiters aren’t very attentive, and often take a while to bring things. The food is relatively cheap though: 7.95 for a large portion of fried rice, 10.95 for a decent helping of Hunan bean curd. They also bring the standard free helpings of tea. If the food seems too salty, you’ll have to ask for water though.

This is a new place that replaced Wondee Siam V. It’s Hunan Chinese food, which is known to be spicy. The restaurant kept some elements of Wondee Asian like the seating, but the rest of the decoration is Chinese. The staff is very nice and friendly. Beef chow fun was really tasty — less greasy than most Chinese places, and it had a tiny bit of spice to it. Hunan chicken wasn’t bad, but not really our preference for chicken. I’ll go for the crispy spicy chicken next time. Dinner prices are a little high(~$ 20 for entrees) but lunch specials at $ 8.95 are very reasonable. Overall, I think it’s worth visiting!
