I am only reviewing for bubble teas. My favorite place for bubble tea around here is Mee Café but they are closed on Saturday. So my friend and I came here since it is so close to work. I ordered 3 bubble teas, 2 black tea and 1 taro. Ladies kept repeating what I want and I kept saying yes 2 black tea and 1 taro. She tried to give me 2 taros and one black tea instead and I said no I said 2 black tea and one taro… FYI I said it in Chinese! They mumbled to each other that it was my mistake but I didn’t mind it because it was a little busy because the place was so small and there were other people in there ordering. My reviews is solely base on the bubble tea, they were watery, bubbles clumped and it was really really sweet! I had to toss mine after only half of it, both my friends didn’t like theirs either so we will not be coming back for it. There were a variety of goodies, I guess I will try those next time.

Seems there is only select times when this place has good service and food preparation or maybe the store is becoming run down. Very displeasing to be ignored for 3 straight minutes and even once ordered, the product being prepared terribly adds insult to injury. No recommendations here, In fact I encourage most people not to go’ especially when there are better places. Harsh rating due to the fact that i have seen it happen to 3 others.

The bakery is small but the price is right with most items $ 1 or less. Not much room to sit and eat but they aren’t promoting you to dine in.

Again, found another nice bakery. Here’s the deal… A family ate breakfast for 12 bucks in NYC! We actually took our food and sat in Seward Park across the street as we planned out our tourist day. Here’s a tip… Have everyone looking and ready to say what they want to the leader in your party… then that person communicates with the ladies. Point and say the number you want using fingers to denote number as well and you can’t go wrong. No chit chatting… Just great food for a ridiculously low price. Love Chinatown!

This is for breakfast. Quite funny, same thing happened to me as another reviewer. I went for breakfast and I wanted F. Guess what? They told me they only A-C. So I picked C, the lady yelled at me about what kind of noodles, I was like just go with whatever and the toast for C had butter instead of strawberry Jam. Uhhh. if its just butter toast, you could just indicate it on the menu? Anyways, the bread for the toast was dry and close to stale. The instant noodles, egg and spam was bland. Not much flavor and the tea was bland too. Pass on breakfast. Why am I even giving it three stars even, despite getting yelled at? The bake goods at the bakery are not bad, service seems nicer there? I like their Jin deui, its usually good. Pretty sure Cash only

I’m so disappointed. Today I was in a rush and decided to get breakfast in the kitchen section. They are(supposed) to have 6 breakfast sets A-F and I wanted F, which has a croissant sandwich, a green tea waffle, fortune cookie, and coffee or milk tea. The lady unapologetically said they didn’t have any of it and told me to choose A-C. So I chose C. The instant noodle with ham and egg was not delicious. Instead of giving me strawberry toast, they gave me two slices of bread with a oily circle of butter in between. And no fortune cookie. But it was too late: I had paid full $ 3.50 before opening the bags and checking their contents. The lady simply said she was out of the strawberry toast and fortune cookies and said it was $ 3.50 because that was the price written. That’s just disgusting. After I was initially satisfied with their cheap prices for fresh shrimp rice rolls and 90 cent bakery items, I’m never coming back. Nothing there is outstanding enough to redeem this incident. I left two stars only because I had received SOME decent foods in the past.

Decent cheap eats if you’re there before 2pm. Any later and they would have sold out on most of the dim sum. The bakery part is also pretty good with most of the standard Chinatown bakery goodies.

Cute hole in the wall in Chinatown off Broadway. Delicious rice noodles with tons of things to add. I had the fish balls, which were very flavorful and not too fishy. Only $ 1.75 for an order, that’s insane! Lovely staff.

This little hole in the wall gets a rave review from me for its rice noodles, especially the fresh shrimp one. It’s fresh, yummy, and cheap for fillings that average $ 2 and under. I like that fact that they have so many fillings to choose from and it is made right in front of your eyes. The lady takes your order, spoons out some rice liquid from this stainless steel vat and presto, in a few minutes, your hot steaming noodles are ready. I love the fact that, the employees, friendlier than in most Chinatown joints, speak enough English to take your order – unless you want a translation of what rice noodles are, as one customer did. As we were munching away, we gladly undertook the translations. I suggest just saying the numbers from the English menu posted on top of the counter. Besides rice noodles, they sell congee, dumplings, stir fried noodles(which are pretty tasty but seem to be a breakfast item and isn’t offered once the little containers have all been sold), meat on rice dishes. It’s a mish mash of Chinese«cart» food. Don’t even think of eating here unless you get lucky on a slow Saturday afternoon – there are two min counters and about 4 stools. Most of the time, there is a line though it moves fast. In warm weather, take your goods to the nearby Seward Park. The location is great, and if you are sick of small portions, and long lines at the Hester St. Fair, Happy Star is just a short walk away. Happy Star makes me happy indeed.

Cheap hole in the wall. Don’t get the fish balls– not fresh and super spongey. The beef stew on rice rolls was okay, but the meat wasn’t fresh nor well-seasoned enough. The rice rolls were too soft and watery.

This is my favorite hole in the wall spot in Chinatown. Everything is dirt cheap! Their menu is similar to the food they serve in Hong Kong cafés. They have breakfast sets that comes with a drink for under $ 5. They make their rice rolls fresh in front of you. I wouldn’t recommend ordering dim sum here because I don’t think they make it fresh. You’re better off going to a tea house in Chinatown where they have dim sum carts rolling around. Their spare rib or chicken over rice is a good portion for $ 2.75. You can always ask for extra soy sauce on the side.

FYI No Enligh here, and there are no iterations of the steamed rice rolls sans meat. The roommate seemed to enjoy them enough, but never mentioned ‘em again, so, ya know.

This place is a hidden gem if you ask me. Where else can you go and get hot dim sum to go at almost half the price it would cost at a dim sum restaurant. The kicker is that they also make fresh rice rolls that they steam to order. The rice rolls are not as refined as what you would get from a sit down restaurant, but they have all the flavor that you need. My actual favorite dish at this place is the steamed black bean sauce ribs over rice. For those unfamiliar, it’s little nubbins of pork ribs that comes with a garlic, ginger, and black bean sauce. I think they steam it partially and then put the whole thing over rice while it is cooking so that the rice absorbs all of the flavor… The only negative comment I would make is that the shrimp tastes a little bit alkaline. I don’t know if they do this, but sometimes people will soak shrimp in baking soda to make them plumper and have more of a snap to the bite. I’d stay away from the har gow or shrimp rice rolls.

I came for their pearl milk tea, only to be told they ran out of pearls. I settled for black milk tea with tapioca pudding in lieu of the pearls. The flavor was OK, but running out of pearls is not a good sign for any place that wants to be serious about the PMT business.

Popped in for a quick bubble tea after a satisfying breakfast of soup noodles and fried dumplings at Lam Zhou and was thoroughly unimpressed. The combination of slushy smoothie made with lychee-flavored powder and overcooked tapioca pearls with displeasing chewiness failed to win me over. You’ll save a dollar or two relative to more well-known boba joints in Chinatown, but I’d rather shell out the dough for a drink that’s… well, drinkable. Perhaps their dried pork buns are the real winner here?

I was warned by my friend(who just so happened to be chinese) that chinese baked good are lacking in taste because«they don’t know how to use sugar.» Honestly, I don’t believe her because I’ve had some awesome Chinese baked goods in the past… However, even though I only spent a dollar on a generous slice of coffee cake, the cake wasn’t that great. The frosting tasted very weird but the actually cake was good. They have lots of baked goods here and they also sell bubble tea! Service was good. The lady behind the cashier was very nice. Very cheap baked goods right by the F train.

Fresh made to order cheurng fun?! Man it does not get any better for someone who loves their cheurgn fun like I do. It is dirt cheap! for less than 4 bucks i got myself a shrimp and a plain one with cilantro and scallions on it. Smells heavenly and taste just how a cheurgn fun should. When freshly made the cheurgn fun is slightly clear, but once it stays for a bit, it turns to the usually opaque kind. The only downside is that it is really far from the main part of Chinatown, but if you want to venture into the parts unknown for some really good food, then I suggest you get your Cheurgn fun loving butts over there!!!

Now known as Happy Star Bakery. Statement verified by my photo taken July 16, 2012. A local Chinese bakery. They hone most standard staples of Cantonese baked goodies. Recent visit for buns tepid to MEH quality but surely is no Taipan Bakery. Happy Star Bakery does not piqued my interest.

You can get decent cheung fun(dim-sum style rice noodle rolls) for cheap here. Any kind of cheung fun you want, whether it is topped with Chinese sausages, dried shrimps, sausages, ham and corn, roast pork, or just plain! They ask you whether or not you want scallions, by the way, which is a must! And just to warn you, you may be repulsed when you first look at it, but it’s actually quite delicious! I especially like the one with roast pork. Mmmm. My other absolute favorite is the do see(condensed milk toast). It is the best thing ever. Definitely not something that your heart will like, but yeah. Other items are, again, cheap and typical Hong Kong fast food, so if you like Hong Kong fast food, you’ll like most of the items here. Also, walk over literally right next door(same company, but exclusively a bakery) and get a milk tea or typical baked goods! FYI: Name changed to Happy Star Bakery Corp.
