Cool place to hang and get a drink. Old school motif with bits of modernisim creeping in. Highlight is an old, film based, photobooth in the bar. Fun for the adventurous.

Run of the mill over-priced Manhattan dive bar — but on a Saturday night the DJ was off… just bad. 3 stars because our large group was able to get a lounge table and couches, without reservations, at around 9 pm.

One of the best comedy shows in NY. Great back room where well known comedians sometimes drop in for a set.

Casual dive bar that’s not too divey. Great music, decent beer selections, photo booth. Sometimes there’s trivia on Saturday afternoons. Really solid place I always have a good time.

I came here on a Sunday evening since they have free comedy and pizza. I came a little earlier to have some drinks and I really liked the space. Its a nice lounge with dim lighting. I was very happy when I arrived that they offer happy hour on Sundays until 7:30pm which included $ 4 wine, well drinks and beer. Before the show they offered us pizza which was not the best but hey it was free. They do the comedy show in the back which is a small space, they had about 6 comedians and like everything some were good and some not but again cant complain since it was free :)

I really liked this place. The bartender was very friendly and was willing to try making drinks he has never done before. Nice décor, good music if you like rock. Apparently there’s a jukebox so you can choose your own, but I feel like it was a good representation of the people that go there.

This bar plays great music, has a decent amount of places to sit and even offers different events here, The back room is up for grabs, which was why i was here. I came for a free comedy show, which hosted about 35 to 40 people. Its a very small room which a tiny tiny platform in the corner and a bar, Theres a few booth type seats, some chairs and a few tables. Very tiny and really hot back here. Thats my main complaint. However, the staff was very friendly and really enthusiac about the event, I would deff. come back here.

Great staff, drinks and maybe the best jukebox in NYC… not that I have inspected them all or anything, but after sitting here for a few nights, I feel pretty comfortable in nominating it.

Hi-Fi is a solid divey feeling bar with reasonably priced drinks. I came here for a comedy show(which was great), and ended up in a small room in the back. The bar is definitely intimate, but it is an awesome place to grab some drinks with friends.

Walked in randomly with a group of friends on Christmas Eve. The service was friendly, the picklebacks went down exceptionally, and there is even a photo booth! One of my new favorite dives in the EV.

Nice bar without major pretensions. Good beers, good bartenders, and a nice space in the back that can be used for performances and private events.

It has the feel of a classic LES dive bar, but the service is better and the place is cleaner than the dives I saw back in the day. They’ve got a back room for private parties and shows, a stage for live music and a vibe that let’s everything coexist.

My CREDITCARDWASSTOLEN!!! And it was not even taken from my bag, but FROMTHEBARITSELF!!! There was only ONE bartender at the bar(at least that is what it seemed because nobody else was taking our orders). I gave this guy my credit card and opened a tab, I ordered drinks a couple times from him and at the end when I asked to close my tab, he said he didn’t have my card. He turned around and that was it. He didn’t apologize, he didn’t even try to figure out what happened to my card. So someone stole my card from the bar or the bartender stole it himself, either way, this place is NOTTOBETRUSTED. Also, terrible customer service.

Fun walked into this place and never left… Because it died instantly. No lie. Beer+shot for $ 6 is cool, but it’s not worth killing your night. Unless you’re paying your respects to fun.

Cool enough dive bar. Not overly grimey, but what turned me off was the disgusting smell that came from the center left area of the bar near the photobooth. I didn’t think there were bathrooms around but it literally smelled like crap… not very pleasant at all. The back area is cool and a bit more spacious, with a separate room/bar for other events(we saw a free comedy show). Cheap drinks, fun location!

Stopped by last night on a birthday bar crawl. It’s a dive bar, and it smells like a porta-potty. It’s probably one of the diviest dives on this end of Avenue A. But the drinks are cheap at least. Bar was pretty empty around 7pm, filled with mostly older people. There was also some live music playing on the small stage next to the bar. We knocked back a few picklebacks and left.

I’m here on a Friday around 6:20. It’s a cool bar but I do wish the bartender would get off her goddamn phone and stop texting or whatever and actually talk with the 5 people sitting at the bar. During early happy hour it’s not crowded at all. That can be cool but if I was the bartender I’d talk up the few people here to keep them engaged. She’s nice but not really engaging. I was here here the other night and it was the same. However it’s still a fun place to go and their happy hour is great. $ 4 beers till 8pm. What!!! If you engage the bartender she’ll talk with you but doesn’t make an attempt to keep the conversation going. But this is NYC so deal with it. You’ll have to go to Brooklyn for that. She was nice enough to give me some chips to chew on while I drank my beer which is pretty nice. The happy hour is pretty bare of people but once 7pm rolls around it starts to pick up and interesting people starting arriving. If you’re in the city and want an authentic NYC bar, check this place out. You’ll like it.

One of the last indie dive bars on Avenue A. When I moved into the neighborhood in 1997, there where many. Hifi is still standing and offers a great environment with friendly staff, great prices, and a custom built jukebox. Highly recommended!

0STARS!!! I work in customer service, I also do marketing and catering for 2 restaurants in the area so forget the fact I’ve been coming to this bar for several years. But last night a large white bouncer told my friends and I to f*** ourselves because we said the bar smelled like sewage. No manners. No customer service. No humble jokes or apologies. Just the good old fashion attitude of no f**** given. My friends and I walked out. Maybe the patrons inside could tolerate the smell of overflowing sewage but why should they? Honestly if the bouncer hadn’t made such an unprofessional comment I would be here right now. But this isn’t the first time i’ve seen this place with sewage problems. They really need a good plumber!

$ 6 tequila shot and beers will give you something to Hi(gh)-Fi(ve) about all night long! And by high-five, I mean more like stumbling around in a drunken stupor trying to aim for each other’s hands and not faces. In addition to cheap drink specials, Hi-Fi also contain everything else we know and love about dive bars: A photo-booth, booth seats, and a DJ playing old school/indie rock. Seriously, their DJs are really cool. If you like their music selection, their DJs can literally chat the night away. Not only that, but there are two bar sections, with the one you first see when you enter and a slightly hidden one in the back. This doubles(!!) your drinking potential, guaranteeing you an awesome time. High five for Hi-Fi for sure!
