Ignacio’s Tailor

I called Ignacio’s today for a quote regarding some work I need done and they were unable to give it to me. How is it that every other tailor in manhattan can quote you or has a website with prices and this place can’t? No thanks, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. The guy who answered the phone was not even listening to my question, I had to repeat myself 3x and then he said oh I don’t know, I would have to see it…
I’ll be going somewhere more reliable.

Ignacio’s Tailor is a lucky find. I would deduct one star for being cash/​check only and for sometimes taking quite sometime to get an item back but they have EXCELLENT tailors.
They were able to cut up and put a suit of mine back together to make it look flattering on my short and stocky body. This is a feat few tailors can accomplish. Few tailors have the ability to make flat-​front pants look good on a guy with an over-​sized beer belly.
Ignacio’s work is expensive but is definitely worth the cost. Also, the few times I was in a rush and needed something back ASAP (2 days or less) they were able to help me out and did not charge me a rush fee.
My aunt originally recommended Ignacio’s to me. She’s used them to work on vintage finds and they are honest with what they think are feasible alterations – they won’t do a job if they think the final product is anything less than top-​notch.

Hands down the most professional tailors for high end clientele. I’ve had then size down Rick Owens leather jackets with all the hardware and details. Flawlessly! They pretty much can make anything like old school craftsmen. I have never found any other tailors that come close.

these guys are great and inspire confidence unlike my neighborhood dry cleaner. They have performed ever level of alternation including intensive suit jacket alterations, sewing functional sleeve buttons, slimming loose pants, hemming, etc. I wouldn’t trust a RL Purple suit with just anyone.
Finally, if i am not happy with the results they gladly correct it.

My go-​to tailor. My last happy fix was a vintage Sonia Rykiel jacket and they took in the shoulders and the back, getting it perfect. They never refuse something that is too complicated or even too simple. They’ve fixed difficult skirts and dresses with draping and ties and petticoat layers and even jean shorts. It doesn’t come cheap, but you pay for quality work. Worth every penny.

Need alterations after losing weight? Need jeans shorten but want the same stitching on the bottom? Need a favorite worn out pair of pants remade in a perfect knock off? Come here! Ignacio’s has been around for 40 years in different locations and with different «Ignacios» but the quality and professionalism hasn’t changed. Be prepared though-​sometimes you come to pick up your clothing and the alterations have been overlooked bc they are so busy-​be sure to check before you leave or you will go home and be furious! I wish they would accept credit cards.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE — needed 3 redos for a basic job. I had gone to Ignacio a few years back, and they had done a good job then. So when I went back this time, I had high hopes. However, I was incredibly disappointed — it was an entirely different experience. I brought two jackets. One needed to be shortened at the hem; the other needed a small hole repaired. They took 3 weeks to do this. When I came to pick up my clothes, the hem on the first jacket was uneven (one side was longer than another), and they hadn’t even touched the hole on the other jacket. I asked them to redo. They took another week; this time, the hem was again uneven, but now the other side was longer. Ironically, both times I was there, other customers were also complaining. During my first visit, a customer was asking for a third redo on his item; during my second visit, another customer was saying that they got a stain on her brand-​new dress (still with tags from the store). I’m never going back here — not even to fix the ruined hem.

I had some old shoulder-​padded jackets they turned into modern, wearable new designs. They also replaced the lining in a vintage jacket. There is no end to the miracles these tailors can do!
I am on my way there right now with more.

I took a pair of Alexander McQueen pants here… why oh why? Well they charged me $ 52 to adjust the waist and seat. A week later when I went to pick them up, I carried another pair of pants in hopes that the adjustment was fine and they could do the second pair… silly me. The McQ pants were taken in too far and had to be let out some but I figured it wasn’t a disaster and they could do the other pair I brought with me as well… for $ 36, same adjustment. ???$ 16 difference for the same job??? So when I went to pick those up in a week, the Theory pants were fine, the McQ pants still far too tight. So they tried to fix again. What I didn’t notice is that they had ruined my pants because the stitching they pulled out left marks all along the seat of the pants. So by week 3, the pants had two tracks of stitching along the seat. They told me it’d come out if they are dry cleaned… and that they’ll give me a discount on the next alteration. Yeah right. Never again folks.

Yet another great tailor, recommended by a business associate. I have never seen someone to a better job of fixing a pulled thread in a pair of Armani pants, where the liner must be removed before the booboo can be fixed, and then put back together like new.
Job well done! They are my preferred uptown tailor. Ramon’s Tailor is still my first choice, though these guys are just as good and just as deserving of all the business they can get.
