Just had a complicated paint match assignment to do and Peter here was able to get the job done work no one else was. I don’t know what I would do without this this guy taking care of my needs for my shop. this is why I can’t go to Home Depot they don’t have anyone there that knows paint quite like the experts here

First post: I have come here 3 times and I have to agree with the bad customer service. It’s odd… it’s almost like they don’t want to help you. I believe in their product since I have used it in the past, so I will visit a different benjamin moore even though this one is just one block from my condo.
Additional: I bought Benjamin Moore Regal Matte Sandy beaches paint and Simple white paint. Both were mixed well and applied smooth. Their store had ample samples and stock for the needs of the job and my review has nothing to do with their supplies only has to do with their service. I go to the Benjamin Moore on 1^st avenue which is more than 3x the distance from my place… would rather not lug paint that far but oh well.

Really great service here today. They provided all the information I needed to make a paint selection & treated me with respect. Reasonable rates (better than the brand store I called beforehand). Also was cool (temp. wise), calm & uncrowded inside – made for a nice change in Manhattan on a hot summer day.

Very displeased with customer service here. I went to the counter with some paint swatches and asked if I could have samples made. The cashier told me that the store was closed. When I replied that they closes in 5 minutes, the cashier replied that it takes time to make paint. Whether or not it takes time to make paint (it takes 15 minutes by the way) the cashier offered no alternative accommodations such as «I can write down your swatch numbers and have them made for you tomorrow.» If you can’t take 15 minutes to service your customers or come up with an alternative solution, I don’t want to give you my business. I went to my local family-​operated store where I was greeted with smiles and assistance immediately.

Been a few times recently and have generally had good experiences. Most of the staff are pleasant, if not especially knowledgeable – pretty much the case in most paint stores. Which is to say that they know about paint, but not really about painting. Also, there was one Sunday where I called in and they said they were open till 5 but didn’t mention that they didn’t mix paints after 445.
My four star rating is prompted by Joseph. Today I went in to buy metallic paint and asked the salesman what kind of roller to use. He wasn’t sure, but when he asked, Joseph dissuaded me from trying to paint metallic on a ceiling, and noted that unless you were spraying it, even walls are tricky. He didn’t get annoyed when I persisted in trying to clarify why this was the case (ceilings are hot and the quick drying results in unsightly overlaps). Next time I go I’ll be sure to check if he’s in.

This place is DISGUSTING. The worst customer service. The 1 star is for a guy named Kareem. Otherwise this place deserves no star.
We went in this morning, 10am, looking for some floor paint and/​or stain. We were also going to purchase some white paint. We asked the old man with glasses and he was not willing to help. He was sarcastic, rude, unfriendly and irritable. Kareem stepped up –he was nice, not the friendliest but at least helpful. He wasn’t as knowledgeable so he still had to consult with his superiors. This was the old white man and a hispanic man as well. Here are some of the conversations we had with them:
US: «We’re looking to change our floors. We own a flower shop and we need to either stain or paint the floors but we have no clue where to start after we clean/​buff it.» What’s better, stain or floor paint?“
OLD MAN: «Whatever. You just have to decide.»
US: «Okay. Well the floor paint, how will it look?» –we meant if it’s glossy or will it cover all the wood’s detail and grains.
OLD MAN: «Well it’s gonna look like paint now wouldn’t it?»
US: «We’ll go with the floor paint. Should we get oil or water based?» In our flower shop we spill water constantly. We have a lot of foot traffic and move furniture time to time.“
HISPANIC MAN: {typing} «Uhh I don’t know what you’re talking about. Ask this guy. {points to the old man}.
I was shaking my head at them and making sure that they saw my face in disgust. They didn’t seem to mind. They don’t care. Thankfully Kareem managed to save the day. He got us what we need, mildly explained what’s what as well.
If you’re coming here to get some help and expect some kind of assistance, better head to Chelsea and go to Home Depot. This is why people like franchises. They’re taught better manners and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They don’t make you feel like idiots and they will treat you with freaking respect.

The old man who works there really belittled me when I asked him questions. He kept giving me sarcastic answers until I got so fed up I left. The other person he was helping left too and we just went across the street to the art paint store where I received excellent service and was treated with respect.
They also had more of a selection.

I am an interior designer and constantly shop at Janovic for all my paints. This was my first time at this location and it will be my last. I had purchased paint from another Janovic location the day before using a corporate and trade discount. The man that works here that appears to be the manager refused to apply the discount even after I provided the receipt from the day before. I accepted the regular price and then asked him questions I had about primers and he out right refused to offer any help. UNBELIEVABLE. I will NEVER be returning to this location again.
It’s really unfortunate because the staff at the Chelsea and Soho locations are extremely helpful and engaging.

Watch out for the old, short change rip off
I gave the guy $ 40 and he gave me change for $ 30. After counting all the money in the register they gave me back my $ 10. All along the guy looked nervous. It was not a mistake
Can’t blame a guy for trying.

Bottom line: AVOID. This store doesn’t care about customer satisfaction or repeat business so they OVERCHARGE and with the exception of one semi-​polite salesperson, they have APPALLING SERVICE.
My boyfriend and I are painting our new apartment and we visited the store twice in 2 days, spending approximately $ 350 total on paint and supplies.
Both times we were there we had to have our paint colors mixed. It took about 30 minutes longer than anticipated (based on previous experience at Home Depot and other hardware stores) and as a result we had a late start with painting. The one high point was that our salesman said that if we needed anything today, we should call first and he’d put it together for us so we could just pop in and out.
We’re almost finished painting but we ran out of paint and need 1 more quart. (We also need to return two of the rollers that broke.)
I just called the store and the man who answered the phone told me that they don’t pre-​mix paints for customers. I really nicely mentioned that we’ve been in a couple of times in the last 2 days and spent quite a bit of money with them and that it would be a huge help if they could mix us up ONE QUART of gray paint, to which he said «Yeah, yeah, a lotta people spend a lotta money here, that doesn’t make them special.» (So much for customer service or loyalty!!) I was pretty shocked at his behavior and asked to speak to our salesperson from yesterday — he flat out said no. I then asked to speak to the manager — he said no again.

I walked in here needing to solve a problem. Super was prepped to paint my unit, but I had no paint. Seems simple enough, go buy some.
I walk in clueless. Ask the guy for 5 gallons of white. He proceeds to explain to me that there are about 10 different kinds of white. Can I have just the white kind? Satin, semi-​gloss, flat white? Look of confusion on my face…
I’ve no idea. We the guy showed me some swatches and I settled on flat white. He didn’t even push the premium stuff too much. I ended up with the basic kind of flat white.
Now I’m not really in the market for paint very often, so I admit the pricetag was not cheap, we’re talking $ 215 or so for five gallons. But still they’re two blocks walking distance from my place, and frankly it solved the problem I had!

So, I’m definitely NOT the handy type. But, after suffering a drafty living room last winter, I decided I needed to make the drafts stop. Stopping by this little hardware store (ok, mostly paint, but they’ve got other stuff too) the guys there were super friendly and helped me find the right caulk and caulk gun, and even steered me towards what they said was the cheaper, but equally good stuff. They even taught me how to use the whole thing. Pretty nifty. Now if only I would get off my behind and actually attempt the caulking…
