This is one of the best seafood/oyster Restuarant in the city. They are all very fresh and seasoned well. We had oysters, lobster cocktail, diver scallops, and marinated mussels and their popular lobster spaghetti. This is heavenly! We finished with their egg nog crème brûlée and it has a hint of whiskey which is spot on! Will definitely go back to try other dishes and more seafood: p

This place is usually too full for me to eat brunch here, but thanks to the snow storm(AND a cancellation) I finally got the chance. Good, but small bloody mary. The beer chaser wasn’t that tasty, but I appreciated the thought. It was a novice order though, the bloody Caesar looks epic. Oysters were all fantastic. I keep a running list of all oysters I eat and most were on my highly reviewed list. Added one more great one I hadn’t had before. What I was most impressed by is the vibe is great. They played feel good oldies in a full restaurant with an open kitchen and at no point was it too loud for a conversation. I don’t know how they did this, because it’s all hard surfaces. It must be magic.

Perfect spot for brunch with your friends! Amazing food, amazing bubbly booze, and great service! The wait can be a little bit of a headache, but that’s because everyone wants to eat here! Come patient and hungry!

I visited this place on a whim looking for a new spot to check out– I was NOT disappointed. This remains one of my favorite places to eat at while I’m in the city. The staff is friendly and suggest great choices. I always get the grilled oysters, which are to die for, and the lobster spaghetti. Being a lobster fanatic I wasn’t sure how lobster in spaghetti would be, but it is delicious. All the cocktails are great as well. Definitely worth trying!

My only regret is that we didn’t come hungrier. Even though I grew up outside of NYC I still feel like a tourist when I visit so I was so happy to stumble upon this neighborhood spot. With full bellies from Italian paninis we were still craving oysters while exploring on a Monday afternoon. We stopped in and enjoyed some local beers and a dozen oysters that we selected randomly. They were so fresh and delicious that we had to order another dozen. One oyster was so unique with a sweet finish unlike any I’ve had before… wish I remembered the name. We were happy with this delicious expensive snack — totally worth it. Hopefully I’ll be back someday to try some of the platters, they look amazing.

While their oysters and cheese plates are usually the way to go, they do have a pretty tight wine selection. Split a bottle or two amongst friends on a cold, rainy day. Sure does the trick

I have been wanting to go to Jeffrey’s Grocery for two reasons: the bloody caesar and the platter for two, which is exactly what we got. For drinks, I got the Bloody Caesar($ 16) which is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it. It comes in a mason jar so it is quite large with an oyster, a jumbo shrimp wrapped in scallion, pickled pearl onion and a cornichon. It is really filling and probably my new favorite drink. In addition, I wish I asked what kind of oyster it was because it was so good but I forgot. I also tried two different versions of the Bloody Marys; the first made with dill vodka and the second with cilantro vodka(each$ 12). I personally thought the dill vodka was a lot stronger tasting while the cilantro wasn’t a very pronounced taste though both were good. Also, they definitely don’t skimp out on the alcohol in these! For food we got the platter for two($ 60). Honestly don’t get anything else. It’s so good and is definitely enough for 3 people, make 4 if you aren’t crazy hungry. It comes with two types of lox and smoked white fish, two very large latkas, scrambled eggs with caviar, crème fraîche, tomatoes with onions and capers and dill, white fish salad, a bread basket with challah, pumpernickel breads, bagels and two types of cream cheese(plan and scallion). It was too much food for 2 people but so, so good. I know there’s usually a wait but we found two seats at the bar and to only took like 3min. I would highly recommend this for brunch.

Awesome spot for brunch! Since I know there is always a really long wait, I came around noon on Sunday to put my name in. The kind hostess took my phone number and informed me it would be an hour wait for four people. I left and then returned with my friends around 12:40. 10 minutes later she called me and informed me that my table was ready. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered the fried chicken & pancakes(it was a special) and made it a Jeffrey(i.e. added a side order of smoked salmon). It was amazing. It was a very generous portion and I finished all of it. My friends had the shrimp omelet and the crawfish & grits, all of which they seemed to enjoy. They also had the bloody caesars garnished with a shrimp and oyster. They said they weren’t very strong but enjoyed them regardless. The waiter became less attentive throughout the meal, but it wasn’t much of an issue because we had already finished our meal and were just nursing our drinks.

I loved everything about this place. Such a cute restaurant with a rustic boat kind of feel. I felt like I was at the beach ready to order some seafood. I tried the beet salad which was SO delicious served with little fried balls of goat cheese and really wonderful olive toast. I also tried the chowder which was super creamy and intense bacon taste ifyou are into that. Well I am for sure !!! Last but not least I had the branzino served with squash carpaccio and pomegranate and mustard and orange. Omg such unique flavors I loved every bite. I would definitely recommend going and next time I am ordering oysters for sure !!!

I’ve never eaten a whole meal here, so can’t speak to brunch or dinner(though I’m sure they’d be excellent) but in my experience, Jeffrey’s Grocery is the perfect place to stop into for a glass of wine and maybe a snack of oysters. I caught up here with a friend on a Sunday(it was actually super loud, so we left after one drink — beware) and then my parents and I came for a pre-theater pick-me-up on a weekday. The oysters were great and the wine list is very complimentary — lots of mineral-y whites and roses. Note that they have very little in the way of reds, since, as the waitress explained, they serve mostly seafood. Also, awesome ambience — I basically want to decorate my kitchen/living room like Jeffrey’s. And the bathroom gets 5 stars.

Is it simply not possible to have brunch for more than an hour in the West Village these days? That is the question I asked myself as I walked out of Jeffrey’s Grocery yesterday afternoon. The food is tasty and high quality but the portions are small. Not a huge problem(ha! get it???) and not what inspired this mediocre review. No, we were refused a second round of(drip) coffee less than an hour after we sat down because there were«customers waiting.» Actually yeah, you’re right, there were four CUSTOMERSWAITING on coffee for the last 15 minutes at our table. Is it really so much to ask that when I shell out for brunch with the ladies that I actually have time to talk to them. In fairness to the restaurant, I should mention that they offered us coffee in TO-GOCUPS. Does that really make it better? Look, I’m not saying don’t eat here. Just don’t go expecting you’ll have time to connect with your dining companions before they usher you out the door.

Stopped by for a glass of wine and raw bar. We ordered the grand platter, which was A-OK. Hence, the three star review. Will definitely come back and try more on the menu!

The food was definitely a 4+, but the service had to be close to a two. My friend and I enjoy good food and try to get together as often as we can, which isn’t so often anymore. But even through we like to talk, we like to eat even more. When we first arrived, we sat at a table by the window and waited. And waited. And waited. Couldn’t really understand why. It was before 5pm on a Monday and there was only two other tables. So we moved to the bar, and we were served promptly. We ordered oysters and champagne and pre ordered some caviar. But then there was a shift change and a new bartender came. We could see she was setting up but trying to get her attention was near impossible. We were ready for the Caviar, more oysters and more drinks. We wanted to spend more money but it doesn’t seem she cared to take it. She even played on her phone, never looking up. I had to wave and say excuse me a couple times and louder each time. And on top of the service, order time to table was incredibly long. We were there from 4:30 to 8:30. We waited for our caviar and entrees for a really long time. We almost left before our entrees came out. I hope this was just a bad time and a bad day. It doesn’t seem like this has happened to any other reviewers. But none the less, my friend and I did not enjoy ourselves and won’t be back.

We came here on Sunday around 11:15 am without reservation for a party of 4 and decided that we liked the menu so we are willing to wait for 45 minutes. We have no problem waiting since it’s our fault for not making reservations or coming in earlier! We were seated right around 45 minutes wait. We ordered a couple of drinks and for food, we tried the: — avocado toast — crab benedict(not crab cake benedict), with biscuit instead of english muffin — Fried green tomato benedict(green tomato as base instead of english muffin) — French toast specials Everything was delicious and seafood was so fresh! We cleaned everything up and definitely would want to come back for more. Worth waiting for a table!

This review is specific to the cocktails — I didn’t have any food. They’re delicious! You can simply tell the bartender what type of flavors you enjoy and they’ll whip something up for you.

April 2015

4.5 Stars if I’m being honest. I can’t fault them for the wait, after all they are popular. The food is five star. I couldn’t have asked for a better brunch. I had the fried green tomatoes with poached eggs & shrimp special and it was AMAZING. They have a perfect selection of oysters, all of which are very fresh. Their drinks are strong and delicious. Their cocktails are a bit pricey, even for NYC, but they also have a well selected beer list. That said, I recommend the Bloody Mary. The service is excellent. They’re friendly and know their way around the beer and oyster list. They also make solid recommendations. I won’t be coming here very often, because I live in Brooklyn and there is certified dankness close to home, but if you’re in the area, or just want a solid brunch, this is a good spot. It was very much worth the trip out to the West Village.

I’ve been to Jeffrey’s multiple times but this was my first brunch experience. It was Saturday of Memorial Day weekend which may explain why it didn’t take too long for us to be seated. I was almost paralyzed by the number of tasty dishes on the menu but I ultimately went with the pulled pork, griddle cakes and poached eggs. I should have guessed this would be a gut-buster but wow — the portion was huge. It was delicious but it was pretty rich. And yet, I still regretted not ordering the fries… Maybe next time I’ll do avocado toast and fries! It was a beautiful day so even though we weren’t sitting outside the big windows near the front make it seem as though you are.

Probably the one of the best brunches I’ve had in Manhattan– bravo! Pros: * Jeffrey’s Grocery is a charming gem in West Village– I love all the little details from the whale illustration, weathered naval adornments on the brick walls, to the vintage plates. * Excellent dishes made with refined and fresh ingredients– you can really taste the difference here! Our table shared a variety of fresh and succulent oysters with cocktail sauce that was more on the spicy side. My entrees of Crab Biscuit Benedict(poached eggs, lobster hollandaise, sautéed spinach, roasted sweet potatoes and squash) was exquisite and my friends and I all agreed that these were the most perfectly poached eggs we’ve ever seen! The sides of their famous potato latkes(pancakes) were awesome. *Complimentary yummy ginger biscuits at checkout * Prices were a bit high, where the the bill came to ~$ 37.5/person including tax and tip(note– we didn’t order any cocktails). Judging the quality of the food — it was worth it! Tips: * Don’t take brunch reservations, so be prepared to wait up to 1 hour for your table. Recommend putting your name down, checking out the puppies a few doors down the street and sipping on a sumptuous latte at Chalait!
