This place has really gorgeous views however getting a drink is almost impossible any night of the week. There is always such a long line at the bar and there’s only one bar in the entire place. It literally takes almost 30 minutes to get your drink. It’s insane. And also as for the outdoor roof– it gets packed pretty quickly and you probably won’t find a place to sit. The prices are also extremely expensive for food or drinks. I came here on a random Wednesday and it was extremely packed. But I’ve got to say after reading other reviews — I didn’t find it hard to get into– the bouncers were not douchey and I had no problems getting in. But I was also here on a Wednesday. They also should probably consider opening up another bar and having a couple more bartenders. The wait is just ridiculous. But if you’re willing to wait, the drinks are worth it in the view is really gorgeous so it’s worth checking out on a nice hot summer day.

The view is beautiful, but not blown away with the service and it’s a slow Tuesday. I’ll post photos on how many pple were here on a Tuesday. Vibes are fine and there are some interesting people to people watch. Overall it is a place to visit and a must see because of the view. I ordered the Bridgette Bardot drink and it was light and right. I recommend this spot. For a total of 5 drinks the bill came out to $ 93 not including tip. I hope I helped!

Came here for a Corona event this past weekend, and don’t know that I would even have known about the place otherwise. Luckily my friend and I had a hookup inside, a regular there, or we would have had to stand for who knows how long on the lengthy line. The view in entering the rooftop elevator reminded me of something out of Miami. It was a hidden oasis with layers of courtyards, with umbrellas at tables, chairs, couches, etc., and people just sprinkled around casually drinking and taking in the beautiful weather. The rooftop, both in and outdoor were a bit small, and particularly packed to capacity on this particular day. The pool is also quite small. But, the view was spectacular. I’m talking all of downtown from the outside, and midtown from in. The drinks were about $ 18, which yes is pricy but the watermelon-tinged Gallagher that I had was so refreshing and boozy, it hit the spot. You pay for the ambiance, but it’s worth it to grab at least one drink on a summer day, and take in the sights.

The Jimmy never disappoints. Great view, fun vibe, and the food and drinks are top notch. Summertime there is a pool where’d we Rhine drinks on the deck. If you want to sit in the coveted corners, make a reservation! And if you do, hope someone more important than you doesn’t come in or they will not hold, your reservation. Lol

Don’t go there. They don’t let you in when you come at 4 people and when to buy 3 bottles of champagne. The guys at the doors are just envious about the money you can spend and the don’t have. Not really professional. They don’t know their job We went to the box to spend our money

Well, I am never going back there again. Wish I could give a review of this place but the doorman would not let us in. About 10 of us met up there to celebrate a friend’s birthday after work. It’s still pretty early, around 6:30. We are a motley bunch of artists, in our late 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, most of whom work for a production company that has a laid back policy about clothes. Nothing sloppy, mind you, but almost no one wears what I would call traditional office wear. Some of us have cool tattoos that are visible, some of us have funky glasses or hair, most of us are wearing something black – you know the type. So yeah, that’s us. Nothing fancy, but we don’t look like a biker gang or anything(no offence to biker gangs!). We get to the elevator and there are two guys posted there, one of whom seemed to be checking people’s bags, but he was doing it arbitrarily. I wasn’t sure, but no big deal. As we got close he had a look of what I can only describe as horror on his face, looking us all up and down. He says, «No.» just like that. And we are like, «No what? No bags? No jeans? No flats? What??» He pauses, clearly trying to make up something on the spot. He says, «well, you have to have a reservation for a group.» Now some of us had come here before on a Friday, with around the same amount of people, and never had any issue. So we say, well how many people do you consider a group? He says, «two is a group. You can only get in this bar if you are staying at the hotel, or have a reservation.» Another group of people came behind us. The security guy or doorman/bouncer or whatever he was – told us to stand aside so we did, intending to speak to him some more about these supposed policies, when he says, «you all can’t stand there.» We move and he says, «You can’t stand there either.» He is not letting the other group up, but then it gets awkward because he is clearly waiting for us to leave first. That’s when we realized we weren’t the«right» kind of people. We all started to notice that all the other people going in looked like they summered in the Hamptons and were no more than 30 at best. Very«Sex in the City» types, but seemingly wealthier. They looked like they could all afford weekly $ 600 blow-outs or their names were Chad. Our group went down to the lower lobby to try and figure out what we should do. Our birthday boy was upset and it really put a damper on the evening. Meanwhile, the asshole doorman/bouncer guy kept running back and forth from the elevator to the lobby to see if we were still there and to glare at us. He couldn’t tell us to leave — we weren’t causing any trouble, and if he had it would have been very obvious why, but he CLEARLY did not want us to stay. So we stayed an extra 15 minutes, just chatting while he hyperventilated. I guess we were too much for him. Maybe we were too diverse – too many black and brown faces among the white ones, or too fat, or too gay, or too nerdy – who the hell knows. But we all clearly were not the«type» he wanted to sully his oh-so-exclusive bar this Friday night. Which is a shame because we were gonna spend a lot of money. oh well.

This is a sad story. I have been coming here for years. This was my all time favorite go to summer spot! My girls and I were literally there every single sunday in 2014&2015. I am giving it 1 star because the DJ’s still seem to be on point. however that is about it. I don’t know if they are under new management but WOW. what a change. The staff is terrible(aside from a couple hotties behind the bar that i recognize from seasons past). I came here a couple of weeks ago, I didn’t recognize any of the servers and they were insanely slow. I had to go to the bar and get my drink exchanged, thankfully the girl behind the bar was fast and friendly, at least someone seemed to know what they were doing. so I thought, maybe this was just a fluke? I came again the following Saturday and it was the same story. the manager was a MAJOR b*tch, both times, doorman was on a power trip, staff was slow… the positive? good music. Do yourself a favor and go to mr. purple, it will not disapoint — RIP jimmy

Really cool view at the rooftop bar. Standard high prices for drinks but in line with other venues of the same quality.

A group of my friends and I came here a couple nights ago on Friday — the doorman was a bit douchey which is to be expected after reading other reviews. So based on the fact that he made us wait & it was memorial day weekend I expected it to be slammed up there. Thankfully it wasn’t too packed because once he finally let us in the manager helped us to get a table outside! If you haven’t been here you should come just to see the views, probably one of the most beautiful rooftops in NYC. Anyway, we were promptly greeted by our server(I can’t remember her name but she was cute and tiny!) who took our order and even gave me a suggestion to try the«low rider» when I couldn’t decide. This drink was delish!!! I probably had at least 7 the rest of the night LOL, it was so good it almost made up for the dingy plastic they serve there drinks. Our server checked on us regularly and even bought my friend a drink when someone spilled hers. When it was time for our server to go on her dinner break she introduced us to another girl, with a rockin tattoo sleeve, who would be taking care of us while she was gone. She was equally as kind & attentive! We partied the night away. All in all I will for sure be coming back here with my friends, great summer spot! Pros: Beautiful staff & views Great service Awesome drinks(low rider!!!) Fun music and atmosphere Cons: Douchey doorman Expect to wait even if it isn’t busy Gross glassware

Lame. Not worth the wait or hype. Maybe I’m used to the cool rooftop pool parties of LA(Standard, I miss you)? This place had a small, dirty looking pool with people sitting around staring at each other. No one was dancing or grooving. Not much seating outside, either. No AC inside. No smiles. Two stars for the view; that’s the only plus.

Reasons to come here: — gorgeous 360 view of nyc — great cocktails(expect the neighborhood price tag) — great place to meet with friends or show out of towners a sexy piece of nyc Notes: — I’ve always been treated well by the staff — do not expect to be allowed in dressed like a bum. this is not a sports/dive bar. if you dress appropriately, there’s no trouble at the door. common sense! — feeling neutral about the pool. but it’s a beautiful touch — there may be a little wait(tolerable) when the weather is nice, but that’s to be expected — I always have a great time here

I never write reviews but we were treated so rudely that I felt compelled to do so. The establishment is obviously ‘ageist’ as the doorman wouldn’t accept anyone that wasn’t young and beautiful into the bar, even during early evening before 7pm. He accepted much younger couples ahead of me and my husband. We are both in our 50’s. I will not be back.

Cool pool rooftop bar of The James Hotel! Obviously the pool is small and not really for swimming. The bar has both indoor and outdoor seatings. Outside def have fantastic view of NJ and downtown. Bouncer was really confusing he wouldn’t let anyone in without a reservation or on the guest list. But after waiting for 10min(no line) he decided to let me go up and said I aggregated him with asking the question of is it because that my outfit doesn’t fit their dress code… I was so confused… The mixed drink is $ 18 – 20, not too bad for a rooftop bar. Service is a bit slow but they are friendly.

Seriously stunning views and ambiance. The staff are not very friendly and it’s pretty pricey but overall I would definitely come back. I love the rooftop city view/pool. One of the best looking rooftop bars in the city, I would compare it to the rooftop bar at the peninsula hotel.

The drinks are expensive, the doormen are annoying, and the vibe is slightly douchey, but damn the rooftop view is amazing and the décor is gorgeous. This is definitely a spot to take family/friends from out of town if you’re in the area and want a picturesque rooftop experience.

Came here for a fashion week after party and had a great time! The bar is really nice and even though its small you get that coZy and warm feeling. Everyone is just there to have a good time and everyone did. The views are amazing, freedom tower, empire state building, all great! Music is good too. Overall it has a chill ambience to just have a drink and hangout without being pretentious. Really enjoyed it!

Imagine the Standard in Los Angeles having a younger, slightly awkward sister. Jimmy is owned by the same guy who also owns the Skylark. The man is a genius when it comes to prime rooftop locations. The bar is smaller and you can wait about half an hour before you can capture the attention of a bar tender. The drinks are average. On par with the Skylark but it’s not a craft cocktail spot. There can be limited movement when the bar is at capacity so be warned. The vibes are all trendy. It’s on the cusp of Tribeca… what else would you expect? Even getting to the lounge makes you feel slightly underdressed. The view is solid. It’s a different perspective on the Manhattan skyline — and it’s what makes Jimmy so unique. I’m a fan overall. It’s a spot that you would want to go on a date or double date but any more than four people and it’s going to be a little chaotic. Go for the view, grab a drink, and hopefully if it’s warm enough, chill outside.

I came here for a date on a Wednesday evening. I had an overall great experience. The staff was friendly from entering the hotel and until we left. I got off to a bit of a rough start with my waitress but I just let my date handle the majority of communication with her for the duration of our time there. The views were amazing. The food and drinks were good, better than expected. We got the large order of sliders and a small calamari which we really enjoyed. We also got pineapple margaritas that were both tasty and strong. The bill was just shy of a hundred dollars. Not bad for an NYC rooftop/pool bar. I will definitely be back soon.

Waited almost an hour to get inside but only because there was a birthday party going on as well! The place itself is pretty small, not much room to dance or even sit. The pool isn’t very big either. The view of the city is pretty cool though! However the drinks were not that great.

I LOVED this place! The view is gorgeous and they play really good music. I came on a Saturday afternoon and the weather was really nice. They have a pool, but it’s pretty small. I like that this place has a significant space outdoors. Unlike the«rooftops» that are mostly indoors and have a balcony. I also liked the crowd. It was a good mix of people. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the price of the drinks. With tip, it’s 20 dollars a drink, which becomes expensive after a few hours. Definitely check it out for the view alone!

C’est un peu«the place to be and to be seen» à NYC en ce moment.
