Came in for drinks on a Friday night, SOGOOD! Loved the locally sourced strawberries. really friendly service, and I can’t wait to come back for brunch

I absolutely love everything about this place. The food is excellent. The service is outstanding. Every Sunday my wife and I go looking for a reasonable brunch spot. Over the years our expectation have been systematically lowered. While finding good food is not usually the problem, finding a place that doesn’t have a long lines, and has a staff that knows what they are doing, and cares about customer service… that can be difficult. We walk along the streets of the once great L.E.S., and pass one nondescript hipster joint after another. Blah, bla, bla. Then came across Joe & Doe! Got a seat right away. The staff was super attentive without being the lest bit intrusive, and the food was excellent. Had duck hash with eggs first time there and breakfast burrito the second. Really nice! Coffee could possibly be a little better but not bad at all. The biscuits, delightful! I think the husband is in the kitchen and wife runs the floor… both do an outstanding jobs. Really love this spot.

Cute little place in the east village that offers southern cooked meals. The kitchen faces the small restaurant and you can see your order pass over the counter that separates the cook and the waiters– allowing you to eye your eggs as they make their way to your table. Complimentary biscuits to start are super yummy and fresh and warm. The biscuits and gravy was also a big hit for brunch as well as their bloody Mary’s.

This is a fantastic NY experience. Plenty of hospitality and some amazing food to match. Stuffed peppers, deviled eggs and fried matzo made for delicious bar snacks and the dinner menu looked divine. Will be back!

One of the best brunches in NYC. I had the special today — zucchini Benedict! It was sooo good and the service and staff is awesome!

Came around 3PM and they still had their brunch menu. Bartender was nice. Had the biscuits and gravy which was flavorful as well as the brisket hash. Also had the muddy puddle which easy going down. Prices are about 15 an entrée. Would I come back, yes I would but if I were to get brunch I might want to try elsewhere first.

Joe and Jill are my fave. She’s hilarious, especially her chalkboard signs. I especially love how much they hate Unilocal. Oh yeah, and Joe’s food? Delicious.

Ask what they have that’s not on the menu, they usually have a drink or two. Love that about it. I’m in love with their punch and it’s great when I’m feeling sick of mimosas(which is a hard place to get to) but want a boozy brunch! This place is super cute and intimate and we didn’t have to wait long to be seated, which was refreshing! They take reservations anyway though, for next time! The biscuits were amazing and I was very happy with my meal. It’s nice that they give you a good portion. I definitely didn’t leave hungry! I’ll have to come back and try their french toast– looks amazing! My friend got their bloody mary, which was made from scratch and looked super intense. A must try, I’d say! I’m a big fan of the bartender with dimples too ;)

What a pleasant brunch spot! Not too crowded, food is EXCELLENT, service great. Diners are welcomed with some absolutely winning biscuits with some honey butter to spread on top. Moist yet flaky, these are some terrific biscuits. I wanted more. Matzo-brei breakfast dish is AMAZING and probably my favorite. The matzo-brei is moist and lightly sweetened with honey. Most of the dishes come with some nice potatoes and a DELICIOUS and light cabbage slaw. I particularly went nuts for the slaw. Challah French toast was also incredible. Not too sweet, so it is a nice compliment to any egg dish. I also ordered the deviled eggs, as a weird impulse, but they were really good. Seasoned with a touch of Sriracha, but not too spicy. The bartenders drinks are fantastic, too. I had the Muddy Puddle, a coffee based drink, which I really enjoyed(although next time I might skip the peanut dust on the rim). Space wise, it’s a small restaurant, but cozy and comfortable. Overall, you can’t go wrong here. One of my favorite spots, since the food is great and as a plus, there are no obnoxious lines.

We stumbled upon this adorable place. The wait staff was friendly and mellow… great music playing while we ate a delicious brunch. Complimentary biscuits to start and then I had the sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich which absolutely made my day. Oh, and try the Sangarita(a mix of sangria and margarita)

Cool, cozy little spot for some good food and drinks. Not for the wimpy of highly seasoned or spiced foods. After years of passing by, finally stopped in for brunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. First, the bloody mary is top notch — deep flavor, well seasoned, and perfect spice level without being over powering($ 11 for a bloody mary is kinda pricey. it was really good tho.). I do love me a good bloody mary… ;-). The sausage biscuit. a monster of a sandwich(a giant fluffy buttermilk biscuit topped with deviled egg, fried egg, yummy homemade sausage patty, and savory bbq chicken — the layers of flavor were insanely good). messy and impossible to eat like a lady. I didn’t care. My fella ate his chiliquelis like a gentleman,(they were really excellent, I tasted them — green sauce and chorizo in that dish… mmm mmm ;-)), while I sat like an animal with bbq sauce and eggs running down my face. it was good. didn’t care what I looked like. Thankfully my fella kept mopping my face clean with his napkin. The slaw and potatoes that came with the sausage biscuit were really yummy as well. Purple vinegar slaw with a hint a bacon, and the potatoes were savory and perfectly carmalized. I managed to clean my plate. Good eats, cool atmosphere, good music, and nice staff in this joint. Overall enjoyable experience.

This place is basically a bar with a few tables selling overpriced but pretty solid, greasy, Southern brunch food. The chairs/tables are really packed in there and are kind of uncomfortable so I wouldn’t recommend coming here with people with back problems or need space to sit down. The service was fair, though it was quite busy. They do accept reservations online but I’m not convinced that they were actually saving a table for us though we did sit down immediately. They also have this thing where they keep the windows open right near the front where we were seated. It was 50 degrees outside and definitely too cold to do this. They should also put a weight on the front door so that it closes whenever someone comes in and doesn’t stay open — or at least a small sign if that is too fancy. As for the food, it comes with a set of cornbread/muffin things that were delicious. This was definitely the best part of the meal. I then had the fried chicken sandwich with the potatoes. While it was good, it was just too heavy and greasy for me to start my day with and I definitely could not finish it at all. It was also over priced. However, it was pretty good so it’s hard to complain much. Overall, I’d recommend checking out other brunch places in the area.

Easily the best chicken I’ve ever had. You might be asking yourself, «how can chicken be insanely delicious?»…But I promise you, it will melt your brain. Great vibe, great drinks, great people that run this place. Will be back for sure, again and again and again.

Original REVIEWBYME Let me just say I had high hopes from the sounds of the brunch menu. One of the waitstaff even came out to chat to see if we wanted to be seated. We would up sitting and I ordered the special cheesy grits with sautéed kale and 2 fried eggs. The kale was not destemmed and was under seasoned. My friend ordered the brisket hash and said there was too much brisket and was too dry. We also ordered iced coffees that had been brewed too long Bc it was bitter. As if the food wasn’t the worst thing, the server was rude and answered any of my questions with a snarky attitude. He never once checked in with us during our meal to ask how everything was. I did buy the Unilocal deal so that was the only redeeming portion. At least I didn’t spend too much. And they were even rude about taking my deal without saying anything about it and tapping my phone and walking away. First and last time!!! UPDATE!!! FROMTHEOWNER: we have been around 7 yrs this past august. I am unhappy that you think it is OK to write such ridiculous things on an anonymous post having never brought them to my attention or my wife’s? We were both there. I cooked ur food. We gladly accept the Unilocal deal even though it often brings in rude, obnoxious, and uneducated folks like yourself. I am sorry that your expert opinion differs so much than the rest of all the people who have ever dined with me. The server I had is new, and I am sure that he doesn’t know everything but am certain he didn’t just not answer ur questions. There is zero chance he was rude, he is foreign. Maybe you dislike that? Kale doesn’t need to be stemmed and brisket hash should have more brisket than anything else. Its brisket hash afterall. Again, behind your keyboard your opinion is king, but in the real world you can just remedy the situation by talking to us about all of the horrible things we put you thru. I am happy that you wont come back. I the future try being a human being and not so nasty and arrogant. There are people on the receiving end of this best JoeDoe

Great place for a weekend brunch. We came here around 12:30PM on a Saturday with a reservation and were seated immediately. The service was quick and friendly. I mentioned that I thought the orange juice was a bit bitter and they immediately replaced it with coffee. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy, and it was delicious and filling. The potatoes were some of the best I’ve had at a brunch place, they were seasoned aggressively and very flavorful. I would definitely come here again.

Really good brunch! Grabbed the Unilocal deal and headed over on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I had the chilaquiles and my boyfriend had a standard sausage and gravy plate. Although my boyfriend found the orange juice room temperature and bitter, the waiter graciously switched it out for a coffee. I enjoyed my bloody mary although found it to be a bit overpriced. I generally don’t like Mexican-style breakfast dishes, but the chilaquiles definitely was an exception. The chorizo was not too salty and the sauce wasn’t too heavy either, two ingredients that usually drown out all other flavors. The starter biscuits were fluffy and fresh as well. We were both very full after our meal and quite satisfied with the price point post-deal. Be warned that this East Village spot is very small! Probably not the best place for a large group unless you’re renting the whole place out.

Was in town from San Francisco and was eager to experience the Manhattan Brunch scene. Found this place and in terms of location and overall vibe inside, perfect. Staff was attentive as well. I got the standard bacon egg and cheese sandwich and it was classic and what you would expect of such a treat. My friend got the brisket sandwich special and enjoyed hers as well. I also got a blood Mary that was pretty standard but did the trick. So, three items and it was $ 50. Luckily I had a Unilocal voucher for a discount but still quite steep. Totally get that it’s NYC but I thought I was pretty conditioned to endure brunch prices from the Bay. But again, awesome location and space, will recommend it to others.

Excellent brunch! NYC prices, but portioning is good. I got the Chilaquiles which was chorizo sausage scramble on thin tortilla with lime zest sauce– delish! If you’re going to have a few drinks get the«big enough for 2» cocktail for $ 17– makes more sense if you’re thinking about your wallet(otherwise mimosas bloodies and other drinks are $ 11 – 13). Nice quaint atmosphere, call ahead for reservations. We called the night before for party of 8. Overall, great spot. Everyone dishes looked yummy– especially the French toast which was a special with bananas foster!

So good, and such a great little find. It’s like a teeny tiny dive bar that also has yummy food. I have this weird habit of having a tender stomach anytime we go to NYC lately, so I didn’t order anything too crazy, just(«just», ha) pancakes and a side of bacon. Oh and a mimosa. Ok, 2 mimosas. Champagne is good for a belly ache, right? So delicious. Husband ordered chili on toast and he devoured it. He also got 2 Muddy Puddles and said they were amazing. Definitely make a reservation if your time is limited-there are very few tables(like…5)

Found this place through Unilocal.Made a last minute reservation the day before for a group of 10 and they were really accommodating. We were late but they still sat us. The place is small so probably better for smaller groups. She brought biscuits out to the table with honey butter and that was enough for us to be sold. Everything on the menu was delicious. Try as much as you can!

I came here with my girlfriend for brunch this morning and it was kind of a let down. Wait til you see what the psychopath restaurant owner did after reading my review… Atmosphere: I did like the atmosphere even though it was a bit grimy. They play really great classic rock music and it’s pretty cozy inside. Only downside is that it’s kind of tight and has sort of a grimy feel to it, but overall a pretty decent atmosphere. Food: The food was disappointing. Depending on what I was biting into, it was either totally bland or way over seasoned. I came here specifically because I wanted to try the challah bread with bananas foster, but they didn’t have any of the bread left. That being the case I ordered the Joe Matzo Brei and I didn’t really like it. The egg portion was bland, contrasting with the way over seasoned potatoes. I think if the main portion had more flavor and the potatoes had way less flavor it would be a lot better. My girlfriend ordered the Joe Sr Scramble and she wasn’t too happy with it either(I had a bite and it was definitely better than what I got, probably cause of the bacon). The meals both came with unappetizing slaw; my guess is that they probably throw away 10 pounds of that slaw everyday cause not many people eat it. The one redeeming thing was the banana bread sundae for dessert which was dope AF. Service: The service really wasn’t great. The guy had to ask my girlfriend what she ordered a couple times. When I asked for my original order and he said they were out of the bread, then he walked away while I was in the middle of a sentence. When he came back I asked if they had any other bread they could use as a replacement for the challah bread cause I really wanted to try it. He seemed really disgruntled and trudged off to ask the kitchen(they said no). Overall I didn’t find them to be super attentive and it wasn’t exactly that busy. I’ve also noticed that the owner goes on Unilocal to troll all the bad reviews and doesn’t let anyone have their own opinion nor does he want to take their advice into consideration. Can’t wait to see what he says about mine. Overall: I’d give this place something between a 2 and a 3. The reason I opted to round down is that I wouldn’t come back and if it was a 3 then I would go back. I thought it was overpriced for what you get. I’d recommend coming here for dessert, but don’t expect great breakfast meals, top notch service, or reasonable pricing for what you’ll get. UPDATE!: Restaurant owner is such a psychopath that he reads my review, posts a Golden Corral coupon as a comment, and then proceeds to stalk my girlfriend and me out on Instagram(to do this, he would have had to link my Unilocal name to my receipt, find my full name, look me up on Instagram, and creep through my pics to find my girlfriend as well). He then goes on to write a chalkboard sign outside of his restaurant saying«follow the 2 biggest shmucks in the east village @brodele & @samlaj08» –see picture below. All because we gave the place a 2 out of 5 stars. What a nut job!!!

I went here with my boyfriend this Saturday morning around 11:30am. The place looks small, but cute from the outside. We decided to come here to try somewhere new in the East Village, but I wish we picked somewhere else — I had higher hopes. There are definitely other places I would recommend to go to around this area way before this one. Ultimately, I would not come back here. RESTAURANTOVERVIEW: –The best thing about this place was the good classic rock/oldies music — Van Morrison, Grateful Dead, Otis Redding, etc. –There are 72-person tables that they can merge together for bigger groups. It’s a small place, so the tables are right next to one another. There are also about 12 stools at the bar. –Very casual, decorated with old framed pictures, there’s an old car part on the wall. –Has a grungy vibe. –A bit overpriced for what is was. Not that it was really expensive, just for what you get/the atmosphere, etc. FOOD: –They automatically give you warm biscuits with honey butter. These were good — nothing too crazy. Just your average biscuit and the butter tasted like regular butter. –My boyfriend really wanted to order the Challah Bread French Toast with Bananas Foster, but sadly they were out of Challah Bread. He ended up ordering the JoeMatzo Brei. I had a taste of the egg/cheese/honey portion — it was just alright. Nothing too crazy. –I ordered the Joe Sr. Scramble. The egg portion was a bit better than what my boyfriend ordered(just taste preference — mine was more savory than sweet since it didn’t have the spicy honey). Again, this was alright — I didn’t hate it, but didn’t love it. –Both meals came with a side of potatoes coated in some sort of spice seasoning. Whatever was on there could have been good tasting(maybe?), but it was taste overload — we both wanted to spit out our bites, but instead swallowed with water! Too much spice seasoning for the both of us. Our thoughts of the restaurant went way down after tasting those to be honest. –Both meals came with purple slaw — I don’t think anyone in the restaurant around us ate this. But then again, I never like coleslaw — I didn’t look very appetizing though. DESSERT: –We were so ready to leave, but totally forgot we had ordered the Banana Bread Sundae as a dessert when we ordered our breakfast. We were already grossed out by the place, so we didn’t really want it, but it was too late. This was actually good. It was banana bread with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top with bananas and maple syrup. I think the whole thing was tainted by our breakfast experience though, and we just wanted to get out by that point. SERVICE: –They were not the greatest. I had to tell him what I ordered twice, and the guy seemed annoyed when we asked him to check if the chef could make the French Toast on different bread since they were out of the Challah Bread. Since the place is so small, you can hear everything they are saying about grabbing checks from tables, asking each other how far along people are from being done, etc, so it is a bit uncomfortable to overhear that.

If you come here with expectations of it as being a bar. You’ll do well. If it’s coming here for a full fledged meal. Eh not so much. They have a great bar menu with plenty of great cocktails and tropical drinks. I for one loved the bloody mary. Spicey and the right amount of alcohol. The bar snacks are also great. Definitely go for the matzo which has a nice herbed spice on top that keeps you thirsty. A nice cheese dip to also dip those matzo crackers in. The dinner to me was average. Had the meatball sandwich on sandwich night and to me it wasn’t anything great. Decent meal that filled me up but for me the standouts are really the bar drinks and bar food.

This place is F-ing legit. So we were staying literally right above this place and it was Saturday night and I was looking for a place to go on Unilocal. These guys had a 4 top at at 845. We roll in around 815 for a pre dinner drink and the place is slammed. This place is really small. 5 tables and an 8 top bar. Small. Haha. Jill is running around like a chicken with her head cut off and asks us if we have a reservation and we say yes at 845. She said ok and told us to hang out at the bar. Long story short they were running behind and seated us when they could. We grabbed some drinks at the bar and were so enthralled about the small kitchen and the interesting creations coming out of it. We ended up getting seated around 915. She had people who just wouldn’t get up from their table. She was very apologetic and we just said ok and kept drinking the amazing bar creations. Finally get seated and we order the roast beef dumplings with au jus and roasted veggie flatbread. She brought all of this and 2 other appetizers, grits with pulled pork and some pickled beets. All of which were just amazing. The flavor and texture patterns were just amazing. For dinner we got the beef for two, beef brisket, and the other toe people both got the chicken. It all was just top notch. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was great getting to know the couple too. Joe and Jill are such great people and run a great joint. I’ll be back anytime I come to the lower east side!!!

The food is tasty. I ordered beer cheese, baked clams and braised collard greens. The beer cheese had a perfect amount of heat, not too spicy. My boyfriend enjoyed his flat top burger. We shared the Pacific Palm, good for two. The coconut water was refreshing but they could’ve added a little more vodka, I’m just saying. The service was excellent. We were greeted with a warm welcome when we walked in. My waiter(Jason, who kind of resembled Seth Rogen haha) was cool and attentive. I’m going back for brunch(have to reedem the free brunch cocktail I received when checking in on Unilocal!)
