a very nice place, though it is a little loud. great service, solid food(definitely get the oysters), and others having a great time(albeit very loud time). not sure how you could miss the place(now), the name and description is several places in the front in white bold letters(they must have listened to the feedback). nicely(not obnoxiously) illuminated bar back with good wood details. wooden bar top with no rail, round steel foot rest, & padded square stools with back support. opposite the bar are high top tables. food is as mentioned above average and they even have their own lager. looking forward to my return since it’s not far from the office and madison sq. park.

Great happy hour. I had a ty webb which was a lemonade vodka type cocktail and my partner had a pint of some craft beer for only $ 4 or $ 5. Will definately be back to try some more food. We sampled the thursday slider specials which were really good. But i noticed different daily food specials like $ 1 wings on certain days etc. Good neighborhood addition close to my work. Glad i ventured in to try.

Since my last review I’ve gone to this place a few more times, and can say I’m definitely a fan. Strong delicious drinks, quality food, prompt service, warm ambiance, and great specials. Truly don’t have a complaint to report about this place. It’s a great place to watch a game without being in a real«sports bar» environment, and i find the prices to be some of the best in the area. They have a fantastic happy hour — $ 4⁄5 beers, $ 6 well drinks and wine, and $ 4 off all of their delicious specialty cocktails until 8pm. They also have an additional food+drink special combo every weekday. I’ve had both their signature burgers, as well as spinach dip, oysters, and mussels — everything has been great. The french fries are fantastic! Be sure to give this place a spot.

The Quick: Amazing classy cocktails, generous portions of cheesy delicious foods, charming gastropub with great live music on Sunday’s. The Details: This spot is tucked away in a very unassuming bar front. You walk in to exposed brick everywhere(my personal favorite) and a mix of craft and delicious classy cocktails, one that even includes legitimate rosebuds. The food was delicious and better than your average pub: we devoured our gouda mac & cheese and fish and chips. The staff was completely amazing and we enjoyed speaking with them. Let’s not overlook how beautifully talented the performer was. Her voice was that of an angel and her song choices were perfect for a laid-back boozy Sunday night(live music starts Sundays at 6pm) The Damage: Average pub food prices, $ 4 off cocktails during happy hour

John Doe is a great bar for hanging out. Drinks were cool and interesting, and there was great live music on a Sunday night. It was a fun atmosphere that induced friendly banter, and the drinks made it all the better. Try the Rosemary’s Baby cocktail! Good standard bar food served as well.

This place is great. Dimly lit, long and narrow space — but very comfortable. There are a couple tables for a more sit down mean which is separated from the bar with a low wall. My friend and I started with drinks — I got the Tequila Mockingbird which had jalapeño in it and gave it a great kick and she got Rosemary’s Baby which is gin based and has lavender in it. We both loved our drinks. We also got the Shepherd’s pie, fish and chips and some onion rings and mozzarella sticks. They were good, but nothing to rave about. The staff here is super friendly and attentive! I felt very welcomed. I would come back for the drinks!

I’ve passed by this place a ton of times and never thought to stop in, probably because my gaze was distracted by L&W Oyster Co. and their cute dangling lights and outdoor seating across the street. Big mistake. I came here on a Sunday night and had such an awesome time. This is going to be my new midtown/flatiron spot! I’ll start with the drinks, because I was expecting some cool beers but not the awesome craft cocktails that I ended up ordering. I highly recommend both the sangria and the Rosemary’s Baby. I’m not sure what the connection to John Doe is, but all of the cocktails are named after books. Next up came the food. My group tried of things, including the flatbread, fish and chips, shepherds pie, mac and cheese, mozzarella sticks, onion rings… basically all things fried and wonderful. The food was great quality, and so much better than your average greasy fried apps. There was a great singer performing the entire night, which really contributed to the warm and inviting atmosphere. I’ve got to mention the staff too-they were outstanding!

Happy Hour is one of my favorite times of the day and John Doe did not disappoint. Happy Hour runs from 11AM — 8PM and includes $ 4 select draft beers, $ 6 well liquor, $ 6 wines and $ 4 off all featured craft cocktails. Oysters are $ 1 every day from 4PM — 8PM! So discounted drinks AND $ 1 oysters? All around winning. I met a friend here after work one day and when we arrived it was kind of packed but we didn’t have to wait too long for a table. Our waiter wasn’t the nicest. He never really cracked a smile but he was efficient and attentive at least.(I mean you can’t be unfriendly AND a bad waiter right? Ha!) We ordered 6 oysters, the Red Fresno Mac and Cheese and chicken tacos. The Red Fresno Mac & Cheese is not to be missed. The mix of flavors will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside which is perfect for this cold weather we have been experiencing. the tacos were OK, and more like mini tacos, but a good starter. Overall if I’m ever back in NYC and can make a happy hour(I recently moved) John Doe would be on my list!

When I moved to New York a few months ago, this was one of the first places I checked out and I’m glad I found this gem! The thing that brought me in was the sign for $ 1 oysters(6 minimum) but it was their Jane Doe burger that made me stay! Jane Doe is their delicious veggie burger with fries, or you can try out their meatier counterpart the«John» Doe burger. As for appetizers, we couldn’t decide so why getting some of each with their app sampler! Huge selection of beers and drinks, this place is one of my fav places to hang out these days. Prices couldn’t be more fair for a place right on 5th avenue, and I like that it’s lowkey. How hard is it to find a peaceful dining experience in Manhattan, right?!

Happy Hour! We went for their specialty drinks and one dollaw oysters and they were worth it! Oysters weren’t small and stingy. You can’t beat a $ 1 oyster. I came here in the fall and they had cute décor too!

Stopped in here yesterday when I was in the area and very pleasantly surprised. Nice looking spot, bartender was friendly and quick to suggest a couple of local beers, all very good. Had the Fish and Chips and was very happy I did, delicious! Will definitely be back when I’m in the neighborhood.

I came for brunch and was thoroughly dissatisfied. I got the the breakfast burger which was supposed to have a fried egg. It came out with no egg. The burger was okay at best. A girl from my party ordered coffee which was brought out with clumpy expired cream. The service was okay. I will not be coming back to dine here.

Eh. Came here for brunch and the food was really disappointing. First of all, I go to pour the cream into my coffee and the it was all clumpy o_o. Second of all my boyfriend ordered the breakfast burger and they forgot the fried egg. Third of all the house fries were luke-warm like they were just microwaved. Fourth of all my mom’s side salad was saturated in a creamy salad dressing. Fifth of all their vegetable burger crumbles apart as you eat it and is just really gross. Sixth of all the service was less than friendly. Def not coming back sorry not sorry. Bye Felicia!

How in the world does this dump have 4 stars? I went here the other day to pass some time while waiting for a friend and ordered the calimari and French onion soup. Both were over salted and revolting, and the calimari reminded me of microwave stuff you get at Trader Joe’s(O_o), plus all the salt. Here’s the recipe for the stuff: Take other ingredients, pour way too much salt on it, serve. Blech! Maybe the upcoming NYC Department of Health’s sodium guidelines will help improve things because these were just terrible. Service was bad. Bartender got ornery with me when I closed my tab — stuck card in my face, so I took it, thinking he was returning it, but instead got a cranky dude who went: «ISTHISYOURCARD.» With so many places in the flatiron district to go, why bother with this place? Oh yeah: when my food came out, they forgot who ordered it, even though I was like the only new patron who’d entered in the past 15 minutes.

It was the night before Thanksgiving, when all through New York, not a creature was stirring, not even– wait, what was I doing again? I stopped by this place because who doesn’t love one dollar oysters and happy hour prices for drinks(and didn’t want to go home yet after getting let out of work early! yay!)? I ordered myself a dozen oysters, the mozzarella burrata, and for the miss piggy in me, the calamari. Oysters was very clean, no grits, and slid off the shell into my mouth quite easily. I think I just found my new favorite dollar oyster joint in this area. Surprisingly, the oysters were not the star dish of the night. The mozzarella burrata, which is basically fresh mozzarella with vinaigrette and tomatoes was probably my favorite mozzarella dish of all. So simple, so gooood. The tartiness from the vinaigrette, the sweetness from the colorful cherry tomatoes, and the ridiculously fresh mozzarella created the best taste in mouth combo. As for the calamari? Super crispy skin but the squid itself was quite chewy. I am a fan of chewy crispy things so can’t complain, but other people may have different preferences for fried calamari. Overall, it felt like a nice bar(they also have table seating) with great bar food to stop by after work for some oyster slurping. Tip: they have great prices for happy hour from 4−8pm. You can buy one small plate and get the second one half off! Gluttony was always my worst sin.

Came here sunday night. This was a fantastic experience. The specials were on point. The service was fantastic and sightly. The oysters, mixed drinks and wine recommendations were delicious. Our hostess and server could not have been more accommodating. Thank you for making my moms last night memorable with a spectacular view of the Empire State Building!!! WHAT!!! Came here on a Friday evening. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Happy hour specials, beer for $ 4, sangria $ 6 and discount off their cocktails. Really liked their beer and sangria, they were more on the sweet side. One bad thing— A huge draw for me was their oyster hh(I think it’s whole day), where oysters are $ 1. The oysters on the most part were skinny and flavorless. Sauces were good, but not the oysters itself For appetizers, I ordered their sliders w/fries for $ 15(if I remembered correctly). This was great to share with friends. There were 3 good-sized sliders with hot thick cut fries. I hate shoestring fries – these were perfect! Their burgers were good— fresh greens, warm buns, could use some more salt, but it went perfectly with the fries. For entrée I ordered their shrimp scampi(on their Friday menu) and it was really cheap at $ 15. Their regular menu overall was very affordable. Tried my friend’s egg-battered chicken — so goood! Came with potatoe wedges, chicken was extremely juicy and tender. The scrimp scampi was also good, very generous with the shrimp and fresh tomatoes. The pasta had a yummy, spicy kick to it. The shrimp was a bit flavorless, like the ones that are served at Olive Garden or perhaps TGIFriday. Overall, I would be happy to come back. Hopefully their oysters will be better next time around. The waitresses were all really nice and attentive. Great place for groups to talk and hang out, did not feel rushed at all.

This place had fucking ridiculously bad service. The waitress had 2 parties including us and took forever for EVERYTHING. She even forgot requests right after we’d ask her for things like water and sauces. The kitchen also just straight up didnt make one of our orders. Also the food was really bland… just all around awful experience.
