K-Bap

It was my mistake for ordering the ramyen. I probably should have tried the JapChae or a stew or something actually Korean. I didn’t believe the other reviews that instant noodles were used. Well, it is true. Maybe not Top Ramen level, but definitely the higher quality $ 1.75 instant noodles with a spicy seasoning packet. K-​Bap really gets fancy for slipping in half of a carrot sliced up so it looks like they made it. I ordered the dumpling ramyen, because I figured that would give it some substance if the rumors were true. So I paid 9 bucks for four dumplings and a pack-​o-​noodles. I just can’t fathom why they even carry this dish? If you are going to use instant noodles, make it super cheap and say so, or just don’t offer it at all.
The plucky girl who was working was very friendly. So, that is something.
The other offerings here may be better, but I am turned off to try them now. There is an actual ramen place next door (Ise Menkui-​tei) which is a few dollars more expensive but won’t leave you with a massive college days sodium headache.

No restrooms for guest, completely empty for dinner time, food was mediocre. I recommend going to the next door vegan place which is happening. Only reason I picked to try this place was because I wanted meat, and now I regret it :(

My friend and i were greeted and seated upon arrival, but not served any water. We ordered the Cheese Ramyun and the Beef Bibimbap. It took a long time for the food to come because there was only one worker. During our wait time, a couple came in and the worker had to stop cooking to greet them. Unlike us, they were served water immediately. The Cheese Ramyun had no taste and the beef in the Beef Bibimbap was all fat. K-​Bap lacks the authentic taste of Korean food and the portions are pretty small. I would definitely not come back and not recommend K-​Bap to anyone.

Got the Bulgolgi box and bottled coconut juice. Fast service but place was a little small and the AC blasted cold air onto my food (was sitting at the two person table closest to counter). The rice was lukewarm. The bottled coconut juice (with coconut chunks) was good and that’s the only thing I recommend. Three stars for fast service and coconut juice!

Look for 10% service charge in your bill. The calculations at the end of the bill are wrong and robbing people. They calculate the total with already 10% service in. So that 18% is now 28% tip. I wonder how long will it take for some one to sue them .
Food wise, was a pleasant surprise. If I was rating the food alone 3.5 starts easy. I wouldn’t go back to eat, perhaps a pick or delivery I might consider it if all the places around were closed.

We stopped here while exploring the neighborhood near out hotel. I thought the food was pretty decent and the girl working there was very nice. It was nice that you could get a few servings of miso soup.

Surprised at all the haters. I don’t know much about Korean food but the «JAPCHAE» was delicious! And they seem to have a lot of Korean clients, which you would think would imply decently authentic food.

Actual food looks different from pictures. Not authentic. Ordered a bulgogi bibimbap and it was more like stirfry onion beef over rice. There was no kimchi in the bibimbap.
Food is edible but not the Korean food I was looking for. Prices are reasonable though, $ 12 for a bimbinbap

I like it that there soondubu isn’t full of stuff I have to pick out to eat. Special yesterday was the oxtail soondubu which I enjoyed so I’m back here again today for it. Call before you come lots of people were told the restaurant was closed when they walked in.

Just went here for the first time this Saturday and it was delicious! I have never had Korean food before and I’m glad I tried it. It’s great place to take out food or casually eat in. I had the vegetable ramyun and the plain japchae both were great! Can’t wait to go back

I’m surprised people are such haters. The two people working the front when I ordered are Korean FROM Korea. They were friendly and took time to talk with me about what I wanted to eat, what they offered, etc. We even chatted about where the older lady grew up.
People are whining about how they think the food is just ‘meh’ or ‘okay’.
I hate to tell you that after living in S Korea for 1.5yrs, this is legit Korean food. Korean food with out your bullshit frills and without being saturated with added preservatives that, as Americans, we’ve come to know and love.
This. Is. Korean.
I thought the galbi was very good. The only part I wasn’t thrilled with was that some of the bones were left on some of the pork ribs making them pieces inedible. For $ 17, I expected more edible meat. Even still, I was full to the brim with the amount that I did consume.
It probably takes 10 minutes from order to ‘ready’ but, imo, it’s worth it.
I loved the atmosphere: jamming k pop through the speakers with bar stools to sit on while I wait for my food and a fabulous k pop inspired mural on the wall because duh.
Pretty small place all together with only about 4 or 5 tables so just keep in mind that this probably isn’t a place to bring your whole office or an entire family of visiting tourists.
Solid 3.5 stars rounded up to cancel out all your haterade sippin’ cool kids. Sure, go find another Korean place to eat; I don’t want you taking up my limited seating anyway!

Bought lunch to go! Line was crazy long but as expected given the limited Asian food choices in the hood. This is 56^th between 5^th and 6^th avenues. Their prices are in line with the hood so do scan the menu for the best deals. They offer specials each day, worth it to save a few bucks.
I paid $ 12 for the bulgolgi Combo Box. I liked the variety of side dishes but the bulgolgi while flavorful, was a bit dry. This was likely because they pre-​packaged some lunches for the lunch rush. My friend ordered the beef Bimbimbap $ 11, and her choice of meat was bugolgi too but not dry since it was made to order. She also chose to top it with a sunny up egg (you can choose scrambled if you prefer).
The dumplings are not only one of the more economical choices, it happens to be quite tasty especially when eating it while it’s piping hot. Again made fresh to order so you can taste the difference between the pre-​made packaged food options vs the lunch boxes ready to go.
I would come back just to try some more of the other items but I can see why some people posted that it’s pricey (Galbi is $ 16!), and for just standard Korean take out, not all worth the cost.
Note: the menus posted on Unilocal and other menu pages are not very accurate. They have a revised menu but you’d have to go into the joint to see it. For some reason there’s multiple menus but most are outdated.

food is doable, but this place really needs better staff. the waitress who is a nice Japanese lady, clearly doesn’t have experience. she struggles too much that I even feel bad to sit and eat. she has trouble seating everyone so there was a line of people standing there doesn’t know if they suppose to order first or can they sit down.
she also has trouble with keeping track which table ordered or not even though there are only a handful of seats there.
overall I think this place is meant to be a quick lunch bento place, however the kitchen is so slow that by the time someone gets the food the lunch break may already be over.
thus in a nutshell, please just avoid this place unless you are not in a rush and not into getting super good food and don’t need service (why should you eat out than?)

Decent place for a quick bite of Korean food for lunch. Although the prices are pretty steep, it’s not too bad. However, do not come here if you want ramen when Ise Menkui-​tei is right next door. For the same price, you get real ramen at Ise Menkui-​tei, not the instant ones like the ones at K-​Bap. That was a lesson I learned the hard way. However their tofu stew is always on point.

This place is centrally located on 56^th street, near a number of other restaurants that include Indian and sushi. We chose K-​Bap because it looked fast and had tables that could accommodate 4 people.
It’s pretty straightforward, some Asian fusion dishes, but mainly Korean themed dishes. At our table we ordered the bento box, bipimbap, and I got the japchae.
I’ve eaten a lot of Korean food, and this won’t be memorable, but it wasn’t bad. It delivered what we all needed and was fast (under 10 minutes for everyone’s food). The person that ordered the bipimbap said it was really good (first time trying it, so not s good comparison). My japchae was good, but definitely needed to be stirred around a bit to incorporate flavors.
If I get what I paid for, I generally go for a 3 star review. In this case I debated a 2 star rating, because the price seemed high, but then I realized this is NYC and things are just more expensive.
I’d go back, probably get the japchae again or bipimbap.
Don’t be dissuaded by the low reviews. If you need a table and a quick lunch, co sister this place.

Cool little place, friendly service.
Food was OK, felt authentic.
But REALLY did not feel like I got value for my money.

There aren’t many places in my part of Midtown that serve Korean food. That being said, KBAP is not a bad place to grab lunch. They serve various Korean BBQ over rice, the usual Korean soups and jigae, and instant ramen. I come here mostly for the tofu soup and kimchi jigae: they’re not Koreatown quality, but they’re good enough to keep me coming back on a regular basis. I tried the ramen once: it’s just your standard Korean instant ramen (that you can find in supermarkets) with some added egg or kimchi and meat, so I don’t think it’s entirely worth getting unless you’re craving. All in all, this place is decent for not being in Koreatown.

Bad… just bad. Do not even consider.
Took 30 minutes to make a bowl of ramen. And still got it wrong, as in… bowl of noodles, with zero of the toppings I requested as part of the option. In fact… no toppings. Basically, it took 30 minutes to put noodles in water.

Cute restaurant name, but the food is expensive and tasteless. We stopped in for a bowl of bibimbap. Toppings and meat were bland and is missing my favorite thing about bibimbap, the crunchy rice at the bottom of the bowl.
$ 12 for an average sized bowl seems a bit steep, even for Midtown.
