Decent food. Had the palaak goshth, lamb biryani, chicken Karahi and chicken boti. The food took a while to come out and it looked like only two people were working there. This was a little frustrating but the food was worth it. The Karahi was a little oily but that’s pretty much the norm. The naans were fresh and warm. It was overall great. I really enjoyed the palaak goshth.

A hidden gem in the city. This is where the cabbies eat. Great tasting food at an affordable price.

The food is absolutely delicious (and spicy).but the service was not very good. I had the chana masala and the special rice. The prices were not as inexpensive as you might think… so between the prices and the service and the non existing décor. it only gets 3 stars. But if you only care about good tasting food this might be your place.

Home of the what is it made of $ 1 burger. The secret is chicken.
The dollar burger is actually pretty good. Its tasty and juicy. Adding toppings brings it closer to a regular price and isnt so much a deal then. Plus it takes a while to cook, so it’s not that fast.
The kafka dogs are good too. Also had an order of the tandoori chicken chunks. Not too shabby for cheap food.

$ 1.00 burger? OK I’ll try it.
Not bad, not really sure what the meat was, but another review said chicken, which was fine with me.
The burger had a nice char was definitely worth the buck.

About three weeks ago, I walked by this joint and saw a sign for $ 1 burgers. I gave it a shot just for kicks and walked out pretty impressed…
Upon entering the establishment, I saw a counter in the back with various refrigerated foods such as biryani, kebabs, samosas, et cetera. The items mentioned didn’t really generate any excitement, so I ordered my $ 1 burger as planned. While they were cooking my burger, the cashier informed me the burger was in fact a chicken burger as many of their customers avoid beef due to their religious beliefs. This was a downer as my personal taste involves avoiding chicken at all costs due to the unappealing texture. But since I ordered it already, i might as well try it to let you guys know how it was:
After the first bite, i was won over. The «burger» had a nice smoky flavor from the flame-​grilling and it was accompanied by a soft yet crusty sesame seed bun (I find the «perfect» squishy McDonald’s buns to be gross). The only downside would be the additional charges for any toppings, cheese, et cetera.
Summary: I would only order the «burgers» here as it’s TASTY and made to order.

Just bad. Made me feel ill the last time. Not exceptionally cheap either.

Eh, its fine. Reheated… should be cheaper. My vegetable biryani was a filling and tasty enough lunch. But $ 8.50 for some reheated rice and veggies? Not a great deal. Good with the green hot sauce and white sauce mixed in.
24 hours, though.

The $ 4.99 Chicken over Rice is a great deal. Lots of chicken and I love Biryani Rice. The ladies there know exactly what I want when I call for a takeout order. Maybe one cons will be that they should consistent with the portion sizes as sometimes I get so little rice and sometimes a lot of rice: P

I originally came into Kashmir because their entrance looked like a cave, and I was curious about whether their downstairs dining area looked the same (it didn’t, BTW). However, my experience there was truly atrocious, and I left really tiffed.
Their décor was tacky nice and they had flat-​screens blasting Indian music videos. Looking on the floor, though, they had cockroaches crawling about in between tables and the waiters walked around them instead of doing something about them. That wasn’t my biggest concern though (even though I did worry about whether a dead cockroach would end up in my Tikka Masala).
My main issue with this place was how the menu didn’t give you vital details. I ordered water, and my waiter came back with a bottle. I told him I was just okay with tap, and he goes, WE DON’T SERVE TAP WATER! Me thinks they just want to rip people off by purchasing water. The food itself was only okay; I’ve had much better elsewhere. When I got the bill, the price was RIDICULOUSLY high. My waiter included the 18% gratuity on the bill, despite the fact that it mentioned nowhere on the menu about gratuity of any kind. It was also weird that they would include it on a weekday during late lunch.
This place is a serious rip-​off, and there are so many better places in the area to eat lunch.

Ugh, mealy microwaved 24-​hour Indian food. And that’s after their renovation! And yet, I continue to go back probably because they are the closest «Indian» food to Port Authority. There is flavor in some of the dishes, and there is something addictive about the rice, that seems more Spanish, than basmati. I can’t describe why, but the pools of grease keep me coming back. (btw-​They got rid of the «salad bar» by-​the-​pound pricing.)
UPDATE: What used to be their basement «cafeteria» is now «Times Restaurant» which serves decent Indian food, which I will review after a second visit. I do not know what happened to the street level Kashmir.

Stale food warning !!!
If you are going to purchase some Naan (Indian bread), make sure its fresh. I was not too pleased about the fact that these guys manage to keep some left overs and even serve this the next day.
Stale food warning!!! I am absolutely sure, I was served stale food on a weekend that I brought food from this place. As someone mentions below, they reheat the food… its just not reheated… its even carried forward from the previous day x-(

I’m giving Kashmir EXPRESS lunch a generous four stars, but that’s only because, and for, their chicken and rice deal «Anniversary Deal».
In taking everything else into consideration, the stars would probably melt away faster than my inspiration to come up with a decent analogy right here. The atmosphere is, perhaps not unclean, but certainly drab. There is only a single row of five seats that face the wall so here eating here feels more like a child’s punishment than a fine dining experience.
The rest of the food, which I’ve never bothered/​dared to try, is generic Indian fare that gets reheated to order. To clarify further, it’s not even in a steam tray, but rather just sitting under saran wrap inside a deli counter. If you’re craving this particular cuisine, Minar is not too much farther, and about the same price.
It is not that I am overlooking these flaws because I’m not even taking them into consideration. I come here for one thing only, and that is the chicken over rice deal «anniversary special».
Chicken over rice is normally considered a meal relegated for food carts and street meats, so Kashmir’s gets overlooked. This is a shame for three reasons.
The first and most pertinent is the fact that I think the «Anniversary Deal» is pretty tasty. The chicken quality is somewhat atrocious but seasoned enough to make it bearable, which is not unlike most other chicken over rice dishes elsewhere. However, the competitive advantage lies within the rice. It’s a long grained basmati which tends to come out more fragrant, light, airy, and succelent all at once. The white sauce is okay, but I defintiely dig the spicy green sauce more. I’m not sure what it’s called, but it’s the samosa dipping sauce that’s spicy, sweet, and a bit minty. Also, the meal comes with a «salad» (lettuce) and a slice of «naan» (pita) on the side. Neither are awesome, but still welcome.
Secondly, it’s $ 3.99! That’s dag cheap even for chicken and rice which almost always cost $ 5.00 and up at food carts.
And finally, it’s indoor seating for chicken and rice. With the weather getting colder, eating outside (for me at Penn Plaza) is become less and less appealing, so Kashmir happens to save the day in that regard too.
Bottom line is Kashmir Express, though pretty grim looking for everything else, is a great place to get your chicken and rice fix, especially on those rainy days or days when your bank account needs a break.

Working in midtown, my coworkers have been searching for new lunch options to avoid the cafeteria in our building. With the $ 7.95 price tag, we were both intrigued and scared.
As we walked down towards the basement amidst the jungle/​cave vibe, we all looked at each other wide-​eyed in amusement. The waitstaff was cheery when they saw us, so we sat down and had the lunch buffet. No turning back now.
The food was decent, although sometimes cold. I had one plate, my co-​workers each had two. My vegetarian friend was disappointed by the variety in vegetarian dishes, and opted out altogether. We watched Indian music videos on the big screen TV in the room. It was a pretty low key place. The TV was loud, but there were hardly any people there.
Noticing a decent sized room towards the back of the dining room, we inquired about happy hour possibilities. We spoke to a «manager,» who said he could easily do happy hour on Friday night. We paid our CHEAP bill, and all pondered what happy hour might be like at the KASHMIR. Exciting!
Friday afternoon, we called and gave them some advance notice that we’d be coming back with 20 people for a happy hour. When we arrived and ordered our drinks at the bar, there was nowhere to sit. When I sat down in the back room (we had asked to reserve), I was scolded by the owner, and sent back to the bar (the seats were for dining only — despite the place being completely empty). We reminded them that we had called earlier in the day, and I was allowed to be seated in the back room once again.
It seems like they were expecting us for dinner-​only, despite the happy hour warning. When we reinforced the idea that we were just there to have a few drinks /​appetizers, our wackadoodle waitress went ballistic that we had ordered from the bar. When we tried to order from the waitress, we asked for an Amstel Light and a whiskey and seven. Twenty minutes later, she returned with a Budweiser, bottle of water, and a shot of whiskey… all to the tune of $ 18.00.
This is when we left.
All said — Kashmir visitors should stick to what they know best — and I assume that is a sub-​mediocre lunch buffet. They aren’t ready to do your happy hour! :)

So, there’s the Kashmir Restaurant and then there’s the Kashmir Express which is connected to the restaurant. It’s the same business, but different storefront and name. This does not effect the review, but hopefully it will help with future searches.
Anyway, just like others have said, it’s a fair price for an anytime kind of spot. If you’re craving some Indian and you’re in the neighborhood, stopping by is definitely an option. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go though. I know enough 4 and 5 star spots around the city.
The reheating of food was a bit time consuming and not as appetizing as a warm buffet, but again, for what you get and the availability, it’ll do.

Okay, so the fact that the food is cold and has to be reheated kind of sucks. However, for 24 hour Indian/​Pakistani food and for their sweet service, variety, and price ($ 4.99/lb) I give this place a couple of stars.
I have only tried the vegetarian dishes since meat is sometimes dry and not very tasty when it’s reheated. The vegetarian dishes are pretty decent and there’s a lot of variety. Their naan was also not too bad.
This place is not gourmet, but I like it better than halal cart — I’d get lunch here again.

It’s open 24 hours. It has a buffet of Indian food that is ok at best, especially since it is kept out cold and then reheated in a microwave on a styrofoam plate. Culinary delight!
I ate there at 4:00 am drunk only on tiredness so my tastebuds were still functioning. There is a wide selection of both vegetarian and non-​vegetarian entrees. Some of the meats were questionable but the bread and rice seemed to be fine.
Service is friendly but I’d skip this to eat food that hasn’t been sitting out for hours and is served in a much cleaner establishment.

After my first visit, I can’t help thinking of their curry and naan bread (day and night) so I went back again. Hahaha…
Their chicken curry is a must eat. So tender and yummy.
Love their made to order naan bread, they serve it hot and crispy.
This place has vegetarian and non vegetarian sections and it’s only $ 7.99. Friendly staffs too.
Buffet time from 11am to 4pm. Just go there with your hunger!

Indian Buffet (All-​You-​Can-​Eat) only $ 7.99 … so cheap and so delicious! The curry was so tasty and yummy, the Naan was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. The serving staff was nice and friendly. We’re definitely going back again soon!
Update: They no longer have the AYCE buffet at the basement restaurant, bummer! :oP They now have the buffet by weight at $ 4.99 per lbs. Open 24 hours. :o)
