Cheap Chinese. Occasionally abrupt person taking orders. Food is decent, can sometimes be a bit greasy, but fair. Good price, nice and cheap. Wantons, good taste, lots, and cheap. Tried the egg drop soup … Won’t make that mistake again. But I mean, it’s a corner Chinese place, hasn’t made me sick, fairly consistent. Can’t complain all that much.

For a Chinese restaurant in the heart of Harlem, this place is actually pretty good. Ironically it seems as if everyone who comes here orders non-Chinese food. If you venture off of the usual generic American dishes, you’ll find some good dishes. The best part is they throw extra freebies if you order a lot of food!

It took 75 minutes for my food to be delivered thus the 1 star. After 45 minutes from placing my order, I called to check if the delivery person was on his way. The man answering the phone says not yet and says they are very busy tonight. If they were already that busy when I called to order, this is something he should have told me so I knew what to expect, decide if I want to wait that long or pick it up. My order hadn’t even left their place yet so either my food was sitting around for 20 – 30 minutes or not even made yet. He tells me my food will be there in 10 min, which I didn’t believe. Another 30 minutes later, I was about to call to cancel when the delivery guy buzzes. Plus, the food was not good. I don’t expect Chinese take-out & delivery places to have great food… at best they are mediocre/3 stars. I would give King Garden 2 stars for food. A large(qt size) beef lo mein was crammed into a white paper take-out box(you know the type). Not sure if that was really a quart, but it’s a decent size portion. The lo mein tasted average. Chicken with garlic sauce did NOT come in garlic sauce. This is listed under their Chef’s Suggestions section… um, bad suggestion. The sauce tasted nothing like garlic sauce I’ve had from anywhere else. It’s like they used the same sauce for sweet and sour chicken/pork/shrimp/beef, thinned it out and added some chili flakes. It tasted like ketchup was the base with vinegar added and thinned with water. I’m not a big fan of sweet and sour sauce. Plus I was not expecting this for garlic sauce so I didn’t enjoy the dish. I will say that it came with a good variety of vegetables that I actually want to eat like straw mushrooms, baby corn, napa, snow peas. Not sure that I’d even go here to take out but doesn’t look like there are other promising options.

This is a typical ny neighborhood chinese restaurant. They do offer brown rice and accept credit cards so that’s an added bonus. The staff could work a little harder at being friendly but I also note the customer base in the neighborhood isn’t particularly friendly to them either. They recently updated the décor — new photos of food. All in all– not bad for a quick cheap bite.

Very convenient neighborhood chinese spot. They have improved their service over the years. The prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and delicious. The portions arent too bad either. I usually get chicken and broccoli w/white rice in garlic sauce or shrimp and broccoli the same way. And its always good! Their egg foo young is decent.

One of my favorite in the neighborhood fast food spots! I normally order a large shrimp fried rice and the fried pork dumplings. I think their food is pretty fresh and well cooked. I recommend that you either call for takeout or delivery because it gets crowded with local residents and Harlem Hospital Staff.
