Kinky Boots

A Broadway play is my type of fun activity in the city. I won the lottery for $ 32 box seats. We were definitely able to make eye contact with the actors. The musical score and overall message were on point. The awkward blonde girl was my favorite… dancing and singing. Great show! Awesome theater and staff.

A beautiful combination of emotional sweetness and powerful courage. My friends were deeply moved, as was I. A must see.
The entire cast is superb, but it is Alan Mingo Jr as Lola, along with Jeanna de Waal as Lauren, who take the show to its sensitive highs and profound reflections. They bring to life the humanity message, so important today, without an ounce of «preachiness». Hats off to them both.
And they (along with many others from the cast) took the time to greet my friends at the stage door, post show. Alan and Jeanna took extra minutes with everyone to chat, to the delight of the crowd.
The show is a celebration of courage, change, determination, respect, and accomplishment. Detailed sets, sharp choreography, and phenomenal costumes. Add in music that lifts the spirit, yet reminds us poignantly, that we all have a role to help on this journey, and the experience is surreal.
A must see, and appropriate for «forward leaning» families who openly talk with their children on current social issues.

The show was great. Funny, and incredible performance by the entire cast.
The theater is great because no matter where you sit, you still have a great view of the stage.
The women’s bathroom is horrible. Be prepared to wait on an INSANE line, all the way to the basement!
Wine is $ 14 for a small cup. The souvenir shop charges $ 30 for a t-​shirt, $ 20 for a mug or ornament. But that is typical.

So I have to say, we were a little bummed out at first when we heard Wayne Brady cancelled due to Storm Jonas. But were BLOwN away by Nick who treated us to his KILLER portrayal of Lola! Omg!!! I’ve seen the show twice before but seeing it from the front row and getting to wink and smile at those gorgeous Angels was the best!!! They were fierce!!! We stage doored after and they were all so gracious and kind with their time! The entire cast was top notch and I see why the show is still selling out on Broadway! The sex is most definitely in the heel! My heart was ready to burst from love and happiness! Go! see!it!!!

WHAT WAS THAT???
Omg this was such an unexpected treat on our stop in NY. We had already seen another show and we’re feeling a bit guilty paying for another. But… WAYNE BRADY! Even my kids (thankfully made the age cut) know him for his «Whose Line» days. They’re thinking this is going to be cool! I’m so glad there were still affordable seats when we stopped at TKTS. The other possibility was «Mathilda» and while I hear it is good… WAYNE BRADY!
I don’t want to rehash the show to avoid spoiling. Harvey Fierstein’s writing brings belly shaking laughter and eye watering soul stirring moments. Cyndi Lauper’s score and lyrics are catchy.
Did I mention WAYNE FUC’N BRADY? At the end of the show he did a rap improv to raise money for HIV. For a donation he took 11 random audience words and weaves them seamlessly into a rap. Holy Eminem Batman one of the words was «fiduciary!»
And finally… WAYNE BRADY!

What can I say… this show is Amazing!
Loved, I mean loved Wayne Brady — he pretty much drove the show and was head & shoulders in talent above the rest of the cast. I mean they were great as well, don’t get me wrong, but Wayne’s personality as Lola just worked and his dancing and singing skills were impeccable. So great to see someone who you couldn’t imagine in that role actually kill it in that role.
I’ve always loved Musicals, with my favorites being 42^nd Street, South Pacific, Rent, Boy from Oz and In the Heights, but now Kinky Boots is on that list. I hadn’t really been interested in the show, maybe cause of the cheesy commercials for it on TV, but glad I finally decided to go.
We had phenomenal seats that we got through the TKTS office, so they were $ 100 vs $ 200 per seat, and we were 3^rd Row from the Stage, so we could see all the action up close — singing, facial expressions, the set, costumes, etc. So cool being so close and personal with the cast. Even had a few of the dancing «girls» wink at me! lol
They were very strict with camera phones, so we didn’t get any pictures of the show, but promise you, it’s well worth the money.
We absolutely loved this show, especially Wayne Brady, so make sure you go while he’s still part of the show! And if possible, try for seats close to the stage — you’ll be wowed and impressed with the amount of work the cast puts in and the amount of detail in the costumes… especially the kinky boots!

Good show, great talent, and the set was so very impressive. Only negative I had was it seemed to me that the cast was a bit «tired» — like they were getting all the steps/​moves right but they weren’t putting forth their best effort. That being said, we WERE seeing a matinée on a Sunday using discounted TKTS tickets; so that could be why, and don’t blame them! But just didn’t feel the «passion» behind the acting/​singing as I usually do when seeing a show on Broadway.
However, still loved the show and would recommend seeing. It’s a funny story — such a whimsical show.

The musical was very nice, acting/​singing was great. However the theater was a little chilly so I’d suggest brining a coat or wearing something comfortable and warm! Also there’s no visible OUTLETS anywhere, Come with a full battery people!

It is rare that I can get so caught up in a show/​performance that I don’t go into over-​analysis mode.
It’s rare for performances to move me to tears once, let alone multiple times.
It is beyond rare for me to leave a performance feeling SOOO good that my faith and hope in society is renews.
KINKY made all three things happen.
I was blessed to see Billy’s genius. I plan on returning to see the wonders Wayne is bringing to the role. Truly can’t recommend seeing this wonderful adaptation of an awesome movie enough!

We won lottery tickets on a Wednesday two winters ago to watch the 8PM showing (pre-​Wayne Brady). For some reason that night there were very little actual ticket holders so almost everyone who entered the lottery received discounted tickets, probably a good 50 people. The discounted tickets came out to about $ 37 for orchestra seats which was a steal. To enter the drawing all you have to do is show up and put your name down. Each lottery drawing is for two tickets, so at the end both my husband and I ended up winning but we gave up the second lottery ticket since we already had two. Plus we got a neat button that said «I won the Kinky Boots lottery!»
The show itself was really enjoyable — the storyline wasn’t too slow, good music/​dancing and story had great depth that I think many people could relate to. All in all a great show to watch especially in new york, one of the most diverse cities in the U.S.

What an incredible show! Wayne Brady did a fantastic job, as did all of the actors and actresses! The story line was fun, the songs were catchy and the choreography was incredible! I had to purchase the soundtrack after the show because the songs are THAT good! I highly highly highly recommend seeing this show!

I love to travel to London and New York and see all the shows I possibly can. I LOVED this show. It is perhaps the best one I have ever seen. If you only have time to see one show, then this is the one!

The Quick: No spoilers here. Great choreography, dancing in your seat music, surprising plot, and most importantly, a heartwarming lesson. Recommend!
The Details: I’ve always been a Wayne Brady fan, since the days of Who’s Line is it Anyway. He is one of the main reasons I bought tickets to see Kinky Boots, and I’m so glad I did. The show had me laughing most the evening and left me with a happy heart and a big smile on my face. It’s fun for the whole family.
Note: At this theater, even the back row on the top has a good view. Unfortunately there is absolutely no leg room and the seats are atrociously small.

Funny, entertaining and great story line. I love the shoes and the songs. It went so well together.
Seats on the mezzanine was good. The theater wasn’t so big so it’s ok to sit in the back.
Highly recommend seeing it.

Did someone say WAYNE BRADY? What? I had no idea when I got tickets that we would be seeing the gorgeous, funny, and talented WAYNE BRADY play Lola! How fun!
Overall, this was a good musical. The Angels were amazing and totally my favorite part of this show, flitting around in their hair extensions and 5″ heeled stripper shoes, making us women feel so damn inferior to the Drag Queen Army– as it should be– the Angels were amazing!
The standout talent in the performance we saw was Jeanna De Waal who belted out Cyndi’s songs like nothing I have ever heard– wow! I was disappointed, frankly in the Andy Kelso performance and will chalk it up to too much Turkey the day before. Wayne popped as the effervescent Lola and it was a lot of fun!
It was a light hearted, light weight musical that was colorful and energetic. Somehow, though this musical had a few draggy scenes and left me wanting more substance maybe? However, I am glad I saw it!

What a fun romp! Kinky Boots is just delightful to watch! I have loved Cyndi Lauper for so many years and her imprint on the score is palpable. No, there are no real blockbuster show tunes. Most of the songs are pure pop. Some of them like «Take What You Got» and «The History of Wrong Guys», I could just imagine Cyndi belting out herself.
Of course the cast is what takes the show to another level! I felt honored to be able to catch Billy Porter as Lola, three years after he originated the part. Mr. Porter is really just one of those super talented and special performers. In the role of Lola you get to see not only his vocal range but his acting chops. Funny story… my 10 year old sitting with me said Mr. Porter was so good he should go on «The Voice» or America’s Got Talent” He also kept asking me who the males were and who the females were. Yes, some of the drag queens do look that fabulous!
The show does get a little preachy…“be who you are” & «follow your dream». So if you don’t like «messages» at your entertainment and if you think seeing drag queens might bother you… don’t go! Otherwise, Kinky Boots is a delightful 2 ½ hours of fun, musical theater.

Totally would recommend this musical. What a great story that really keeps the audience attention. A definite crowd pleaser. I have so far seen this twice and would definitely go back again.
The 80’s pop star Cyndi Lauper’s lyrics are fantastic! Billy Porter really carries the songs home and so does the rest of the cast.

Must see! This show holds a little bit of everything to keep the audience hooked throughout the entire production. It has comedy, heart touching moments, catchy songs and lets not forget the wonderful costume designs. The performers do not hold back and portray their characters as they should be.
I do not want to give the plot away by going into detail, but all I will say is it is a great story of a shoe maker who needs inspiration in creating new shoes and so comes along Lola a drag queen who saves his business. It’s a great play!
Ofc you should check out and score the 2 for 1 broadway tickets whenever possible ;)

Kinky Boots on Broadway was incredible. The singing, dancing and acting were phenomenal. There were several times throughout the show that I was captivated by the dancing and beautiful voices. The soundtrack is so catchy. I love every song, especially «The History of Wrong Guys,» «Step One,» «Take What You Got,» and «The Sex is in the Heel.»
I laughed out loud several times throughout the show. I was also very moved by other scenes in the show. Kinky Boots demonstrates the importance of acceptance and teamwork. We loved every minute of the show. Billy Porter is a true star! I hope to see it again soon.
