One can always judge a French restaurant by its pâté and Le Pif blew it out of the water. Duck mousse, escargots and duck magret were delicious too! We really enjoyed the romantic intimate setting and nice ambient music. Great place for dates or small gatherings with close friends.

Cheese plate was on fleek, but didn’t know exactly what we were eating. Cheese is diverse so make sure you have a solid cheese/wine pairing. the space was a little small and it isn’t really in a hip/cool neighborhood. But, overall a delightful tapas space if you’re in the UWS.

FYI the dinner menu is VERY limited. I adore French food, in fact I’m flying to France later this month just for a good adventure but this was such a limited selection and nothing exquisite in terms of flavor. The food was nothing spectacular and they had TINY portions that were spectacularly overpriced. There are a lot of cute wine bars in the area, I wouldn’t bother with this one again. Service was good– friendly and nice :)

Great place! Classic french wine bar with sharp selection of french wines by the glass… The pizzas are to die for with thick melted cheese on the top just yummy. Bartenders provide great recommendations for wines as well. Nice date spot

Ahhh Sunday morning on the Upper West Side. After a much deserved sleep in, I didn’t have to venture far for a great Sunday brunch when I found Le Pif(meaning the nose, vis a vis wine). It is a very small cozy space on Broadway that seats maybe 25 people. Peppy French pop music, as well as vintage Maurice Chevalier and Edith Piaf piped in lent to the atmosphere. We were cheerfully greeted by our server, Jenni, an attentive and friendly young woman with a delightful French accent. We ordered from the prix fixe menu and feasted upon traditional French omelettes, a Parisian croque Monsieur, and a grilled Brie sandwich dipped in truffle honey. Mon Dieu! Each dish was very delicious. They have what appears to be an extensive selection of French wine and cheeses as well. My only critique for my visit would be they wanted $ 10 for a mimosa. I thought a complimentary flute on the prix fixe menu wouldn’t be too much to ask. Another example of the UWS price point, I suppose.

The place is good, but it’s also expensive for what you get. The food menu is somewhat interesting, but it’s nothing ground-breaking and costs a lot. The wine is nice(and the staff was great – they really helped us pick out a selection we would want). But still – a bottle of wine and a few small side dishes shouldn’t cost $ 130 all-in.

Difficult to distinguish yourself as a wine bar on the upper west side but Le Pif successfully does so. They have an appealing atmosphere and charismatic bartenders talented at making wine selections.

Went for brunch today with some friends and the food was great! I didn’t love the veggies that were on the arugula salad, but my friend got this fancy ham and cheese sandwich(totally blanking on the name now) and it was AMAZING!!! I’d go back just to eat that on my own. They made us mimosas but I wish they had more breakfast cocktails on the menu. Awesome experience! Looking forward to returning by night to try the cheese and wine! Super close to the metro, so it’s really convenient for frigid, winter nights!

This is a wonderful wine bar and great addition to our neighborhood. The menu has many choices of cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments, all of excellent quality. The wine selection is fabulous and reasonably priced. Most important, the service is amazing. From the moment you walk in you are welcomed by a wonderful staff including the manager, Alex and our favorite waitress, Turku who always makes genuine suggestions and makes us feel at home. V. and H. Kulkarni We’ve returned to Le Pif several times since our last review and continue to find it a wonderful place for wine and interesting appetizers, such as the escargots(best in town). The most amazing thing however continues to be the excellent warm service, especially from our favorite waitress, Turku. Really hope she stays at this location where she already has many loyal customers. V. & H. Kulkarni

I split the 5-piece cheese/charcuterie combo(Tomme de Chevris, Brillat Savarin, Truffle Tremor, Pâté, and Duck Mousse) and the fusion tuna tartar ginger with my friend. I was slightly disappointed with the sizes of the cheese provided; it was definitely not a bargain. In terms of flavor, the cheeses were good, but nothing out of this world. The pâté was quite robust(unfortunately too much for my liking) and the duck mousse was delicious. The cheese/charcuterie combo came with a nice sized cloth bag of toasted, warm bread, a few nuts, apricots, and excellent mustard and honey-truffle dipping sauce. Would I get the cheese/charcuterie combo again? Not for that price. I really enjoyed the fusion tuna tartar ginger. The tuna tasted fresh(although a bit chewy, but I didn’t mind that), the avocado was ripe, it had an intense(but not overpowering) ginger flavor, and it came with delectable pita-type chips sprinkled with paprika. If you’re a fan of tuna, I recommend that dish. Service was relatively quick, although the way they priced our bill was questionable. We had to run out to see a show, so we were unable to calculate everything before we left. We were supposed to get 10% off of our total bill because of our tickets to a Lincoln Center show, but it does not seem like that occurred… If you come here hoping to get 10% off, be ready with a calculator.

Amazing cheese and charcuterie plate deal! Recommend the Truffle Tremor, Brillat Savarin, Duck Mousse and Tomme de Chevris. Also highly recommend the Fusion Ginger Tuna Tartar. But if you’re sharing dishes, be prepared to do a lot of math when you’re paying the bill. Also — 10% off your bill if you show a valid theater ticket(Lincoln Theater and others — Beacon, etc).

Perfect for an afternoon after strolling Central Park. Charming the moment you step inside. Rustic and unpretentious, yet elegant décor and french music transports you to Paris. Jennifer was very pleasant and welcoming. The charcuterie choices were all enticing. The pâté is exceptional! Pair that with their champagne and you will want to stay and indulge all afternoon.

Cute little wine bar near the 72nd subway stop in the uws. Never crowded(unlike Vanguard down the way). Prices for wine and dinner are a bit pricey but their brunch prix fixe menu is quite good. Would come back with a friend. Their service is friendly but it can be difficult to get the attention of the wait staff. The food and wines are both good but definitely on the pricier side. Great for brunch but probably would go to Vanguard for wine or dinner.

Over priced for mediocre wine selection, mediocre ambiance, and so so service. I came here with two friends after work on a Thursday night. I don’t recommend this place and wouldn’t go back, especially with all the other good wine bar options in that area. The flatbreads while tasty were way overpriced. Seriously, way over priced. And the red wines were awful. I was actually surprised by their poor wine selection. I like a wide variety of red wines and am not particularly picky, but I tasted a few different reds and thought they were all disgusting.

Had an amazing lunch here in late September. Highly recommend the prix fix lunch for $ 20, our group of four loved everything we got. Super cute ambiance(think fresh roses and low lighting). The drinks were yummy as well — recommend the violet chrystals but let it dissolve before drinking, the violet color and flavor takes about five minutes to appear. Would happily visit again!

Lovely food, each item we tried was top-notch. Service is typically French, high quality and quick if you intentionally get their attention, could be slow and relaxed if you dont. Recommend the duck pâté and the herbs de provenance saussicone.

Good brunch food, especially the tarte flambée and omelette but the service really leaves something to be desired, because it’s just incredibly slow(about two hours to just get all our dishes!) and the waitress had trouble remembering if we got parts of our order. You can tell they’re severely understaffed with one person working the kitchen and two waitresses for the entire restaurant but still, the service is just too slow. EDIT: The pretty French waitress at the bar did give us free champagne due to the wait so that was really nice of her!

SPECTACULAR ‘find’ on the UWS! I brought two friends from Paris and they ‘loved, loved, loved’ Le Pif. They said Le Pif felt like home… from the atmosphere, to the food, to of course. the wine. The service was ‘spot on’, the owners were there, as well. We felt like we had left Manhattan and stepped right into a Paris wine bar. I think the coziness makes for ‘warm’ conversations, whether it’s a first date. A special night out or wanting to get together with close friends. It gets very busy, so definitely be on time for your reservation or someone will be waiting for your table. Le Pif is very close, across the street in fact from the 72nd St station with the 1,2,3 trains. 10 min walking distance to Lincoln Center, Central Park, Riverside Park. I would recommend Le Pif to anyone with discerning taste and looking for a quick escape from Manhattan. My only suggestion is that French music in the background would make you totally escape from the Manhattan ‘rat race’…if for only a few hours! Bravo!

I grew up on the UWS and never really took advantage of the cool hole in the wall places when I was younger. I Unilocaled this place and decided to give It a try. The escargot was amazing! The bread was amazing! The service– amazing! I was a little bummed that they ran out of fois gras, but the rest of what we ate made up for it. I hope they expand their menu, as it was pretty limited when we visited. Other then that I think it’s one of those places that is great to go on a date, or just for some small bites before a show. Everything the people around us ordered looked amazing as well. I’m not a wine person, but they seemed to have quite a collection. Bön appetite!

Now, in honor of our special guest, I’ve created dinner ‘mon dew.’ First, we have ‘Frahnch’ fries AND ‘Frahnch’ dressing AND ‘Frahnch’ bread And to drink, tah-dah…Peru! All awesome 80’s movie references aside(*), this cute little French wine bar is, well… very cute. Came here on Saturday avec mon chéri for a quick drink and bite before a show at the Beacon. It was perfect for what we were looking for. A mélange of cured meats, baked cheeses and truffles pervaded the room. Great(all French) wine list and a nice menu of small plates, of which we tried a selection of meats and cheeses. If I lived closer, I would keep this in my back pocket for a date spot option, but regardless, I’d definitely return for an encore performance. Gee, I’m really sorry your mom blew up, Ricky. Great place and great food. The principle is simple, they use extremely good and fresh ingredients and make relatively simple dishes. The cheese selection, the toasted brie, the ravioles, the bread, flat bread. All are excellent and fresh. I highly recommend this place. The waiters are nice and professional(and French :)

Almost literally a hole in the wall(albeit the cutest hole in the wall ever), Le Pif packs a mighty punch to make up for its tiny size. A handful of tables line one wall, window seats face the street, and a few seats surround the rustic bar. I sat at the bar and asked the waitress for a wine recommendation, she gave me a free taste, which I thought was a lovely gesture, I liked it, it was a smooth Cab blend. I ordered the boeuf bourguignon because I had heard so much about it from other reviews — it was meat-falls-off-the-bone-tender(though no bone) and a nice broth with plenty of bread for dipping. Portions are smaller, tapas style. I added an order of olives and nuts because I needed a little something salty with my boeuf. I was served a heaping plate of divine, crisp and fresh olives and mixed nuts. I couldn’t leave without ordering dessert — so I had the chocolate lava cake, which I had to wait for a bit because they were making it on the spot. Everything else came out super quick. Lava cake was delicious as expected. Service was very friendly. I can’t rave enough about the casual yet romantic atmosphere here. All the décor is of course quaint and French… wood paneling, wine bottles to the ceiling, fresh roses at the bar, clipboard menus, and chalk writing above the bar explaining that«le pif» means«the nose» for sniffing good wine. Tiny twinkling lights are strung around the windows and above the bar, illuminating the otherwise very dark and dreamy space. When you come to Le Pif, you don’t feel like you came to a French wine bar, you feel like you escaped to another time and place.

Such a cute spot! Happy hour is rare to find on the Upper West Side. They offer $ 9 glasses of wine even on the weekends, although that is still a bit too expensive. For $ 19 you get a three cheese selection. It comes with toasted bread, walnuts, honey dip and dried fruit. The waitress helped us select the cheeses. My favorite was the truffle goat cheese. They gave us a decent portion and all were delicious. Well worth it!
