I went to the one on Chandler and 40th. The service was not good. Our server did not explain the menu to me and it was my first time there. I ordered the pork roast burrito served enchilada style and I wanted rice and beans. When my bill came I questioned t it, because I was charged for two entrees. I asked if this was right and she said yes«you ordered it this way.» Also, the whole technology is they are placing your order and billing on their tablets. The tip was either 18, 20 or 25%, geez don’t we have a right to give lower if the service was bad??? Again, she did not explain this process to someone who may not be familiar with new technology and seemed irritated when I questioned my bill. I will go back and try something different. I don’t know if the pork was old, but it did not taste good at all!

best tex-mex in NYC. perfect meat, margaritas and all very spicy, but … the kind of spice that sneaks up on you … doesn’t hit you right away. too bad they closed :(

Watch out for the hidden peppers. Dangerously spicy, without warning on the menu! My boyfriend got an enchilada dish(not noted as one of the«spicy» options) on one of our first dates that left him chugging glass after glass of water and running to the bathroom to rinse his mouth out every 3 minutes. It was entertaining to watch, but he didn’t seem to have much fun experiencing it! Try it at your own risk.

Mediocre Mexican, even by Yankee standards. Horrendous waitress messed up everything, was very rude and not at all attentive, then added mandatory 20 pct grat even though we only had 4 diners and one drinker(advertised as 6 or more on the menu). Avoid these skeezeballs at ALL costs

My friend and I literally walked by this place 3x within 15 minutes searching the area for a restaurant. We peeked inside, liked the small, quaint atmosphere and seems as though locals go here. Good sign. We arrived around 9 so the place was just quieting down but we had to still wait about 20 mins for a table. Once we were seated in a tight corner area we glanced at the menu. Everything seemed good but it must’ve been the hunger. They bring out chips and salsa. One spicy one not so much. We ordered some Guacamole in addition to the salsa. I am not an expert but it was rather bland and not very good. Tasted like hard boiled eggs were added. Once our meals came out we were almost stuffed from the chips(they always do that to you!) I had the Grande Burro w/beef. Very bland once again. The beef was dry and flavorless. My friend had the #5 combo. He liked it but it was very spicy. The service was eh. Definitely family so you expect great service. Not so much. Plus the cost is absurd with the portion sizes. Small plates and $ 20 on avg main course… not going back. ***sign outside says place is closing down in Dec. Probably because of their bland food****

***REVIEWFORMARGARITASONLY*** Why is this place closing on December 23rd??? Maybe because it’s slightly below ground level on a pleasantly quiet, residential stretch of East 18th? That is the only reason I can think of, in case the owner just decided to peace out for personal reasons. Been here twice; once back in the winter on a completely dead Saturday night when I had a gigantic margarita for $ 15 and was completely buzzed, skipping around Union Square as snow fell down between the silver skyscrapers. Yesterday, I brought a date here in fond recollection of the quiet roadhouse ambience(license plates and postcards all over the wooden walls), kitschy Mexican Catholic relics, and Christmas lighting I’d enjoyed in February. This time, the glass front was completely open to the unseasonably tender night. We sat on stools at a bare wooden bar right at the window while a healthy but not overwhelming crowd got happy down at the colorful bar and cozy tables below and behind us. Small margaritas were $ 7 until 8 p.m., and the bartender even brought them up to where we were sitting, just people watching. The margarita was so finely blended that it had the consistency of a mousse. The icy mix was tart, delicious, and positively alive with real lime flavor. Also, it was strong as fuck. Two more and I ended up alone at a nearby Taco Bell, but still knowing that everything would be all right. And no hangover this morning! I’m going to visit this place repeatedly before it shuts its doors, and suggest the same to anyone who’s down with exercising their escapism by placidly binge-drinking margaritas in a place reminds them of anywhere but here. Hell, if this happened, maybe we could keep this hidden treasure from turning into another Starbucks or insipid café.

Sorry, but it’s criminal to charge $ 23 for a Chimichanga unless it’s stuffed with Northern California Sensemilia and topped with a line of Columbian special sugar. I grew up working in Mexican kitchens and a chimi is simply a burrito that get dipped into the deep fryer. Meanwhile a great burrito shouldn’t cost more than $ 7 As a former Arizona resident(where this place was born), I was excited to have a place to get my red/green sauce fix. But the prices here are retarded. Full retarded.

I had a chance to eat at this location a few weeks back. Killer. I have eaten at the AZ locations over a 1000+ times. Yeah, that good. The food is consistent at all locations. Its spicier than your mom! Get ready to breath fire! LOL!~ Enjoy!

I am missing New York at this very moment thinking about the pozole I ate here in October. It was delicious and spicy. If only I could find a place in LA that serves soup like this. I also had the enchilada with the fried egg on top. That was amazing as well. Service was awesome and bartenders were friendly. I’m definitely stopping in here again for some home made eats when I’m back in NYC.

This place is abysmal. How it’s still in business can only be due to its location. I came with some friends and we were sat only after the bartender told us we weren’t allowed a table unless we were having dinner. We assures him we were. Then he forgot about us. We waved him back and he finally sat us, reminding us again that the privilege of sitting at a table is granted only to those who order dinner. We told him again we were. We waited about 10 minutes for someone to bring us menus, which never happened, so we flagged down our harried waitress who dumped them in a pile on top of the plates and silverware and was gone. The menu is ridiculous. They have only a few actual Mexican dishes that are wayyyy overpriced(24 $ for enchiladas??) and the drink menu is mysteriously missing, and after reading the other reviews I can see why. $ 65 for a pitcher is insane. The menu also has a really off-putting list of rules on the back, things like NO party is allowed a table for more than two hours. ALL people must order a MINIMUM Of $ 20 in food. Stuff like that. Lame. The waitress never came back, so we left. Thank god I didn’t end actually having to eat there.

Not awesome — and surprisingly expensive. Los Dos Molinos is great for those looking to sweat out their overly spiced meal, but for those looking for either a more refined Mexican meal(interesting, well-prepared courses), or a cheap dive with good food and drinks, you’d be better served heading elsewhere. For starters, bad service. Not terribly bad — just bad enough for me to notice. I had difficulty in ordering drinks(had to wait about 10 minutes to order, then another 10 minutes for the beers to come), refilling our tortilla chip basket, and getting the bill(needed to flag down three seperate waiters). Food was nothing to write home about, and was almost 1.5−1.75x what it would have cost in comparable restaurants(read: ~$ 20 for an entrée of enchilladas). The burro«enchilada style» with red salsa was certainly edible — but seemed slopped together with a dry corn tortilla, a seemingly excessive amount of beans and an uncaring amount of spice. Guacamole had a weird color, and still cost $ 8 for a small portion. And beers(Dos Equis) were expensive too — $ 7 – 8. This is not a high-end bar or a club — this is Los Dos Molinos. And I’m not coming back anytime soon.

Sangria and margaritas arrived in glasess so large that you could bathe a baby in one of them. Not good at all though; aftewards I felt like I’d just gulped down a $ 14 glass of Kool Aid. The food was as good as the drinks were bad. My enchiladas were smothered in hearty green chili and topped with a fried egg, a hallmark of New Mexican(as in the state) food. Any remorse I felt upon taking my last bite was quickly alleviated by a taste of my friend’s half-eaten chimichanga, which I happily polished off as if it were my own. Definitely some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in New York by far. The food is deserving of four stars, no question but I I’m docking Los Dos Molinos one star for the atrocious mixed drinks.

My 2nd time to Los Dos Molinos and I just can’t think of a good reason ever to return. The food was ordinary, the drinks nothing memorable and the bill ridiculous for what we ordered. For example — 2 beef tacos, a side of rice(which must be ordered a la carte when not purchasing a combination platter) and a small margarita(well tequila) = $ 32(not including tax+tip). The service was friendly enough and the vibe was fun on a Saturday night but we received just better than Benny’s quality Mexican at Dos Caminos prices. Pass.

Just visited this establishment with my work buddy and we crushed down four margaritas within an hour and a half. These babies go down smooth, are ice cold and come in a glass the size of your head. Yes, they are somewhat on the pricey side — $ 14 for a fish bowl sized glass but you can score the same heavenly nectar during happy hour for $ 7 in a smaller glass. The bartender did note that two of the happy hour glasses equate to more Rita than you would get in the $ 14 chalice so totally worth it! Oh, happy hour runs until 7:00. I ordered the Taco Salad and my mate had the Chicken burro. Both meals were priced just right and the portions were quite large. Food and salsa was definitely on the spicy side but so good that it is totally worth shitting fire for a day or two. All in all this is definitely one gem that you want to check out. We left fat, happy and cross-eyed. The crazy décor, friendly staff, cool patrons, fantastic food and slammin Ritas all add up to make this joint a little slice of heaven!

Having grown up in Albuquerque, I find the inability to find genuine New Mexican food(that’s right, NEW Mexican food) in NYC to be a travesty of epic proportions. So my appreciation for Los Dos stems largely from the fact that it’s the only game in town. I could certainly compare it to my favorite restaurants in the 505, but that just wouldn’t be fair. It is, after all, an Arizona chain(for which I dock it a star). Though I do have to give them credit: the green chile is authentic(and pleasantly hot), they serve blue corn enchiladas with a fried egg on top(why wouldn’t you?), and the margaritas are pretty damn good. But please, don’t order standard Mexican fare like tacos or burritos here and bitch about how it’s too expensive and not what you were expecting(go to Chipotle). If you get anything on the menu here other than the house specialties, you’re truly cheating yourself. I do agree that the food is overpriced. If I was in NM I could find dozens of places that will serve better food for at least half the price. But this is Manhattan, where running a restaurant is expensive, and you can’t exactly buy fresh Hatch green chile at the corner store. So until El Pinto or Los Cuates starts franchising in the Northeast, I’m gonna keep shelling out 20 bucks here at for a relleno plate and loving every bite.

Honestly, I’m not the biggest fan of Mexican food so maybe that’s why I am not as harsh as others on Los Dos… it was a great go to with big groups and for a quiet Tuesday margarita break. I love that you just happen upon it… and that can get lost in your group of friends without being hovered over to move on by your host… they don’t care… which is probably why those that are there for the experience and dining aren’t their biggest fans. It’s not a place to impress a date, it’s not a place to suggest taking a food snob or someone who claims to ‘really love’ authentic mexican fare. it’s for your best friend that just wants to go out and get a big marg and salty chips… or for a group of friends that also just want a big marg and no hassle. Yes, the prices are too high but… well…welcome to NYC?

AWESOME atmosphere GREAT food LARGE sangria pitchers what more could you want? Great place to bring a date, it is dark and not too noisy. The tables are far enough spaced apart that you won’t be rubbing elbows with the couple on the next table. No complaints with the food — except as one reviewer already mentioned the sour cream/guacamole will cost you a bit on the side. I’ve been here three times, and had no problems with the service.

Good food if you like spicy and I mean spicy. Fantastic drinks. Great spot to hang out. Love the little window to the outside where you can sneak a smoke while you chat with your friends inside having cocktails. Bartenders are excellent. Drinks are mixed perfectly. I have whiled away all afternoon into the wee hours with my friends. Dangerous. You can go broke from the bar tab.
