Lot-Less Closeouts

New discount variety store where you can get a lot for less (get it?) Generally busy but not busy enough where one wants to shoot themselves. Not as huge as some stores I’ve seen but i think the quality of goods is a a step up and the place at least is well organized with a cashier line that is actually well staffed and organized. Discount variety stores are usually a sh@t-show but this place is quite tolerable

The Lot-​Less chain is the exact definition of what a variety store should be.
It’s not Walmart but certainly not your corner $ 0.99 cents store either.
This location is close to my workplace and I’ve darted in here for quick buys — almost always finding exactly what I’m looking for. They have a great selection of children’s toys, Essie polish (older colors) and items for the home. Prices are certainly reasonable.
As others have pointed out, the layout is strange but you can definitely move about in the store.
Lines can be super long but they move quickly for the most part. Floor staff are helpful however some of the cashiers clearly do not want any parts of the customers with the exception of handing them a bag and sending them away.
The 40^th street location is still by far my favorite but in a pinch, I will definitely continue to pop in here for something light.

Ever since I was introduced to Lot Less about four years ago, I’ve been loyal to them visiting most locations. From Fulton to Broadway to 40^th and 7^th Ave and all the way to 231^st, I am never disappointed by the deals and customer service. That’s why I was excited when I started working around Union Square. My first visit was with my sister shortly after they opened. The layout is weird but then again that’s not their fault. At that time, it was a usual pleasant Lot Less visit. On my second visit, I bought some seat cushions but when I went home I realized they did not fit my chair so I decided to return them, simple right? When I told the cashier I was there to return seat cushions, she told her co-​worker and that lady seemed annoyed at this request. She begrudgingly took the cushions and told me in a rude way I needed to have the receipt to return items. Of course I had the receipt, but she didn’t even bother to ask if I had the receipt. She then told me that in order to return items I had to go to the security guard with the items and receipt. That’s the first time I’ve been told this but I went with the flow. The security guard was rude, he sucked his teeth practically snatched my bag and didn’t even look at me (granted I am quite short and he is about 6’5″ but still) he asked for the receipt which i was holding but didnt take it. He asked for it again and when I told him I was holding it he finally looked down and took it. He then checked to make sure the items did come from the store and price and then led me back to the cashier who made me sign a slip and finally gave me my $ 9 and some cents.
I felt so unwelcome there that I will not return. I will travel to 40^th st and even all the way to 231^st and Broadway to avoid this place.

So wifey took me to this store today after several visits and was so excited to share the place.
If a 99-​cent store and a Target could have a baby it would look like this store.
You can basically find a bunch of good stuff at VERY good deals. It goes from home goods, glassware, soaps, candles, to shoes and snacks and many other things you can’t even think of.
We got out with a big bunch of stuff for $ 34.

I was looking for t-​shirts yesterday. I was actually surprised that they had a good section of t-​shirts and other summer clothing of good quality. They were reasonably priced.
The line was long but it moved quickly thanks to the number of cashiers.

I bring all my out of town friends here. This is the best store in the world. If you combined a dollar store and Walmart, you would have this store. Everything in here changes weekly, so if you want it buy it right now. You can not beat these prices.

Love love love lot less. used to come here after work to grab home stuff on sale and have never been disappointed. I noticed they are spreading out in manhattan, which makes it very accessible.

Very welcome addition to the neighborhood. Clean, well-​organized discount store with bargains galore on brand-​name stuff. You never know what you’ll find here on any given day, and some categories yield more treasure than others. On a recent visit, for example, I wasn’t very impressed by the men’s clothes or underwear, but the grocery section was a different matter. This is is a great place to buy snacks! Low-​fat Chees-​its for $ 2 a box! A box of 30 Nature Valley Trail Mix bars for just $ 6! Whoo hoo! Over in the drug store aisle, there weren’t many deals on antiperspirants and I didn’t see any eye drops, but there were a lot of 2-​in-​1 shampoo/​conditioners at great savings. So if you find the crowd at Jack’s Discount too off-​putting, check out Lot-​Less. Definitely worth a visit!

Very clean and organized shop. Good discounted prices on good brands. Load up on the bathroom /​medicine cabinet supplies. Theres a good selection of basic workout clothes.

I worship at the mecca that is Lot Less. You will find LOTS of stuff here. This one is no exception; plus it’s CLEAN. They have more clothing than I’ve seen at the one on Fulton Street. I’m also remembering this place next time I want Ghiradelli chocolate since it’s cheaper here than anyplace I’ve seen it in NYC or elsewhere. Oh, and if you don’t have sensitive skin & you’re a woman in need of makeup you should go here. They’ve got a huge selection of it.

New Lot-​Less in town between Union Square and Flatiron!
Lot-​less is a lot like Jack’s 99 cents or other big discount stores that sells clothing, dry foods, and home goods but at a huge fraction of retail price. I’d venture to say some of their items are the same quality and cheaper than bed bath, home goods, ikea etc (I’ve been mainly looking for home stuff). Reminds me of a nicer Big Lots! (back in the West Coast)
