I was contacted by the manager and the issue was resolved. They did also give me a free month to compensate for the inconvenience.

Lucille Roberts Grand Central has all amazing classes. All the co workers are all kind. And treat us like family

been here once and only worked out for half an hour… lol
i’m not a big fan of this crazy place… this gym is Design for females… The equipment’s are OK… some don’t really work right… there some free classes you can take with the trainers… there is usually no wait… during lunch hours… which is where everybody take there lunch break and try to get their daily workout in… somewhat maintained and clean… People are kinda friendly and so are the staff… but this place is much more affordable than Equinox…

I have been trying to stick to this gym thing for a while but most of the times, I felt like I could not find anything to do at the gym that I couldn’t do at home. I finally decided to commit to going to the gym even if just for half hour a day and Lucille really covers the basics for me. Their classes are fun, great atmosphere, friendly staff and instructors. Their locations in GC and Bayside are clean and not too small, although, this is not a gym you go to for body building, it is definitely a great way to keep in shape.

DO NOT SIGN UP!!! They screw you if you try to cancel. I read many other reviews that said the same thing, ignored the advice, signed up anyway. When I canceled, I too got screwed. This is a smarmy, scamfest of a membership ordeal. Low class, low quality, low everything. Beware.

I like Lucille Roberts because it is an all women’s gym, however, I wish the gym, particularly this location was open later. For Manhattan I think 9pm is early. Other gripes with this location include the cleanliness factor. Its not gross, but daily upkeep could be better. Not sure how often the showers are cleaned but I once saw a piece of gum in a shower stall for about three days straight. I check the stalls before using. The bathrooms could use more attention especially in the evening, lots of paper on the floor, seats with urine. Earlier in the year the cleaning person was working in the mid-​morning while people were working out, which was OK except for the few times they used powdered carpet cleaner and vacuumed creating a dust cloud all through the facility, choking the patrons. But what do I really expect for my $ 20 per month. In the summer months I have not seen the cleaning person, but my usage times are different. There are usually two people working the gym, but I never see either checking the facility. Only before close do I see a worker making rounds. All that being said, the equipment is never problematic, they offer daily classes, personal training, and small group training. I feel comfortable being around just women while I sweat it out. It is also VERY conveniently located between my office and the train station, which is why I choose this gym.

The gym was rude and condescending. On a tour of the gym, I was asked, «What are your goals? To lose weight? To get toned?» It is rude to ask people if they want to lose weight. I was also not given an opportunity to answer the question.
The gym does not have any weights over 20 lbs or a pull-​up bar. The heaviest weight there is a 20 lb dumbbell, and there are no barbells or plates. They have a few weight machines and lots of cardio machines and classes.

Gross. Small. Packed. Annoying. Don’t go. After having only have been here for LESS THAN A MONTH I am canceling my membership because this place was just awful. The girls at the front desk were nice, but not very helpful. The gym is clean for the most part and that was about the only positive experience. I joined Lucille Roberts because it was very convenient from where I work and offered a low price. The elliptical’s are basic and don’t have an incline feature. The gym is sooo small and certainty can’t match up with its customer base. I basically was forced to leave the gym the other day and ended my workout early because there was no space for me to workout. The studio was full since a class was in there and the PT area was apparently completely occupied since a PT told me to leave the area and then came after me after I placed my weight down and told me to put it back where it belongs because she wasn’t doing it. This place sucks and corporate/​management needs to get their crap together.

One of the few key things I look for in a gym include the following (in no particular order):
— Convenience
— Quality Classes
— Cleanliness
— Affordability
But, before I dive into all the good stuff about this gym, here’s what happened prior to registration.
Before I signed up for this gym, I did a trial to sample one of the classes. I took the «Upper Cuts and Core» and it was worth it! I was sweating bullets and that is the kind of work-​out I like; one that challenges your body and mind. The instructor was motivating and the whole class overall had a lot of energy. However once my trial ended, I started getting a call every day from a LR representative for me to join the gym because of this current promotion that is oh-​so wonderful! Blah blah blah, so expect that post-​trial.
After browsing through various gyms, I decided to go with LR because of the four reasons listed above. The gym is on the way to the train station, which means that I have absolutely NO excuse to not go to the gym.
Now lets talk about the classes. So far I have tried the Upper Cuts and Core, Zumba, Rock Bottom and Core and I have loved each one. I usually arrive at the gym at 4:30 or later for the 4:45 class. I would recommend coming early to snag a spot, not that the 4:45 session is that busy. The 5:30 class is the busiest one from my observation. So come early, bring water, and be ready to feel your muscles burrrrrrrn.
This gym is quite clean and well-​maintained. There are about four bathrooms and four showers (I think). There are plenty of lockers and machines available and I never had to wait for one. There are many treadmills, elliptical machines, but a limited number of target work-​out machines. The small free weight area balances out the number of cardio machines, which is great. No complaints about this place. Everyone comes in to work-​out and then goes about their day for about 292 dollars for a one year contract.

Name of the game is convenience. When I get out of work and walk to the subway I can’t make excuses to not to go the gym since it’s on my way. However this gym is packed during lunch hours and after work hours. If you like classes like Zumba, step and other areobic classes this is the place for you.
That is not to say they don’t have any machines. They have several cardio machines and some weight training machines. They have some machines that you are unable to use without a trainer. You have the option of getting a personal trainer as well. Of course from what I have observed majority of the trainers are women.
The staff is great, they are full of energy and care. Extremely polite and accommodating. I have forgotten my membership card several days and by showing my State Id I was able to enter the gym. You can look the schedule online for classes. Try to get there bit early to find a locker and change. Make you sure bring a locker for you belongings.

I really like this no-​frills, affordable gym. The staff at the front desk are always friendly. The selling point for me is the fact that classes are included in your membership. I was a member of another gym at a similar price-​point that didn’t include classes so I made the switch. I’ve taken several classes so far including kickboxing, zumba, and toning/​sculpting classes. Some teachers are better than others and put together fun/​challenging classes, but all that I’ve taken have been good.
The facility is small, especially the locker and bathroom area. It’s all clean though. There are several machines as well including cardio (bicycles, treadmills, etc.) and toning machines. One thing that I don’t like is they don’t provide spray and paper towels to really clean the machines and mats well. They have a dispenser where you can get pre-​moistened wipes, but I don’t think they’re wet enough to do a good job of wiping the equipment down.
Like any gym there could be a wait for machines during peak hours and the classes can get crowded also. This gym works for me because of my work schedule and location so I tend to beat the rush-​I don’t know that I would have signed up if I had to deal with the crowd. Also, this location is closed on the weekends. However, if you sign up for a certain membership (gold?) you can go to other locations and some are open on the weekends. Overall this gym is basic and a good deal overall.

Me gusta el gimnasio porque me queda cerca d casa, cómodo para ir, las clases son muy buenas, pero estoy en desacuerdo total con las máquinas que deberían modernizar, salvo bucicletas, caminado ras y elliptical d las demás hay una d cada una, no puedo creer que un gimnasio no fresca suficiente diversidad d máquinas para trabajar áreas como glúteos, algo muy importante para las mujeres, todas las rutinas que encuentro en Internet no puedo llevar las actividades cabo ya que el gimnasio no tiene máquinas más avanzadas, ni siquiera poleas, veo que al este gimnasio necesita hacer un update urgente, y seria bueno que agregarán clases en la mañana porque se llenan tanto, que no tenemos suficiente lugar para todas, bueno le doy dos estrellas X las clases y lo cerca que me queda, X máquinas doy nada, en realidad está reseña es para el gimnasio ubicado en New jersey, jersey city central ave.

My coworker signed up at this gym and was raving about it so I decided to sign up for a guest pass to try it out because I already have a membership at another gym. I really like that this gym is affordable and comes with classes along for the price you pay. There are other gyms out there that are around the same price range but don’t offer classes. They have different types of classes ranging from zumba to high intensity work outs.
The space is spacious and clean. This place does get pretty crowded especially around the locker room area because they only devoted a small area for the lockers and it’s placed where the showers and bathroom are located.
For the classes, their schedules can be a hit or miss. I had to leave work a bit early so I could make the 5:30pm chick boxing class. I really enjoyed the instructor. She really motivated the group and I don’t think I sweated that much from a work out. For all their classes I suggest going a bit early so you can get a spot because there is only one area where they hold the classes.
After trying it out I do want to make a switch to this gym just because there are classes available but when I checked my local Lucille Roberts they are not open on the weekends. I’m still debating whether or not to make the switch because the grand central location is the only location I can go to on the weekday since it’s near work but I live downtown and I want to have the option to go to the gym on the weekends. The only con I can say would be the schedule of their classes and the schedule for their locations.

The gym facilities at Lucille Roberts are adequate. But I have had a No Exit experience in canceling my membership. Their Helpline has a virus and cannot accept cancellations online from AOL or Yahoo. The phone number they provide is defunct. The staff at the gym is unable to process my request. Very, very bad business practice.

I’ve been a member with this gym since September of 2012. It’s in a really convenient location for me since I work in Midtown East. I also have a gold membership and I can workout at any of their locations which is also good since I live in Brooklyn. I love that they offer classes although not all instructors are created equal. They also have reasonable prices for small group training sessions classes which a lot of people do not sign up for. So it’s almost like you’re getting your own personal trainer for a low price. I do agree with one reviewer that mentioned the bathroom floor always being a mess. I will say that every time I am there which is usually in the evenings I see a cleaning lady working diligently.
The free weight area is on the small side and there aren’t as many weight machines as I’ve seen in other Lucille Roberts. There is no more sign up sheet for the cardio machines which is nice because most people did not abide by the sign up sheet anyway.
All in all I will say that this is a great gym to join if you are in the Midtown area.

Finally! I’m from Oregon and when I found out about Lucille Roberts I had to sign up. I’m enjoying it! I have only been to this location but I’m sure this is the best because of the volume .

I would have preferred to use a suggestion box, however, there isn’t a physical one at this location and there is nowhere on the website to make suggestions. Oh well, here goes…
The good: the gym is affordable and conveniently close to my job.
The bad: this location gets enough circulation that it should have a bunch of 6 month old magazines still on the rack and a few 2 – 3 month old magazines, these items can be expensed!
Also, the TV’s are out almost every time I come here lately, old magazines/​no TV bad combo for using the cardio machines. Get new service, there are options. Also, more maintenance on the machines, I was on an elliptical today that sounded like it was on it’s last legs, that could be dangerous and costly in the long term to your business.
Be the great gym, you’re meant to be :)

I’ve been a member since January 2013 and I truly do love this place!
My best friend and I were a bit weary about joining a gym, but we felt comfortable in a snap. If you’re looking for/​expecting to get the ultimate in luxury gym experiences — this isn’t the place for you — especially at the membership price point which is a steal compared to other gyms in the city.
We sure enjoy our workouts though! Good variety of classes — 7 months in and I still haven’t tried them all! The only downside is that the popular classes fill up quickly, so it’s best to get there early to grab a spot — but that comes with practice. I am always happy to make the 7:15am classes, it’s a great and energizing way to start your day. Emily and Joey are my AM faves — they’re both sweethearts that know how to make you workkkkk!
Staff are friendly — Instructors are truly awesome! Classes and instructors change every so often, so I’m grateful that they post daily updates on their blog.

Very disappointed with Lucille Roberts.
Just like the rest of the world, I went price-​shopping for gyms in January. I moved to NYC a few months ago and hadn’t found a new place yet, and while I hate the January Gym Rush, I do like low prices.
After submitting my information online, LR started a contact assault. Daily e-​mails, phone calls, and even text messages about joining the gym. I came in to try a class, and the schedule was incorrect so I didn’t get to test it. The gym looked new and clean, and I thought, «eh, working out around all women will make me more motivated to try new stuff, right?» They make you bring a lock for a locker, but everyone just throws their stuff in one without a lock. Sucker.
The girls at the desk gave me some mumbo-​jumbo about gold VS platinum clubs, and I better sign up with them to get all the membership details. I felt pressured so I didn’t make the decision right away, but the calls and texts didn’t stop. Their phone system doesn’t take voicemails, and their hours are pretty inconvenient for a working woman. But somehow, I got pressured into signing up over the phone.
Suddenly, the calls stopped.
No membership number. No «come in to get your contract and your t-​shirt!» No «hey we haven’t seen you.» No promised new up-​to-​date class schedule.
I went back once and no one at the desk was paying attention, so I just walked into the gym without checking in. Maybe you don’t even need a membership here!
A week later I got a call asking me if I wanted to join the gym. I was irate. I had already paid them to join and they obviously didn’t appreciate my money. It took me a few days to call to cancel, because you can only cancel over the phone with customer service, not in the gym. (wth?) Customer Service is 212−734−9717 and they are only open 9 – 12 and 1 – 5 Monday — Friday. Again, super inconvenient for a working woman.
The best part of my experience with LR was the man who answered the phone at customer service. He quickly canceled my membership with no hassles. I will not be back and I do not recommend this gym.

I tried out this LR location using a guest pass — mostly for the classes (my apartment building has its own gym, so I’m really just looking to supplement that).
I arrived a little early for my 6:30 PM class (FIT Boot Camp) so I ran a few miles on the treadmill and checked out the gym a little bit — I didn’t get the «tour» some other reviewers mentioned, but whatever.
My biggest pet peeve (though not LR’s fault) is when people throw their crap in gym lockers and don’t use a lock — and then other people (me) open those lockers thinking they’re empty and get very frustrated when they’re not. For some reason, at LR it happened to me 10 times in a row before I found an empty locker. Annoying. Maybe members here are less vigilant about using locks because it’s «just us girls?»
LADIES. Lock up your sh*t — it’s called a LOCK-​er for a reason. Or don’t complain when your things get stolen.
ANYWAY. The gym is fairly small but clean and decently equipped — the locker room area takes up one whole wall and it’s semi-​open (not a big deal since LR is a women’s only gym). The gym has mostly cardio equipment, with very few weight machines. There’s a sign-​up sheet for the cardio machines, but I couldn’t tell whether or not people actually paid attention to it.
The class itself was OK, but not what I was expecting. FIT Boot Camp turned out to be a step class, which is totally fine — I like step — but they should just call it what it is. It also wasn’t hard — I was really hoping for a tough workout and I barely broke a sweat. Kind of ironic considering the instructor was getting seriously pumped about how «LR has the hardest classes» and «we’re tougher than our competitors» etc. Weeeeeeeeeell… not in my book.
I think maybe I’m not the right customer for Lucille Roberts. I’m not trying to judge or make any blanket statements, but LR seems like a great place if you’re just starting to get into shape, looking for the basics and want a comfortable environment to get to the next level. And that definitely fills a need — not everyone is looking for a David Barton-​esque situation. But it’s just not my thing.
That said — their customer service was annoying as H*LL in the few weeks after my guest visit — they called me multiple times a week and clogged my mailbox with this or that «special offer» or various other incentives to sell me a membership. I wouldn’t mind one or two calls but this was over the top and it really turned me off from the place. If I want to join your gym, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, STOP HARASSING ME!

I have been going to this gym regularly for about 4 months and I have always gone after 5pm (and later), my membership is the gold one so this allows me to work out at any of their locations and take their ‘premium’ classes such as Zumba or Yogatone.
I have never had a problem securing a machine or getting a good spot in any of their classes. I with they had more ab/​midsection machines like their Union Square (14^th St & 5^th Avenue) does (although that location is *AWFUL*, but they have better ab machines… I’m reviewing that place next!) this location only has one ab weight machine.
But in all I do like it here, «you get what you pay for» definitely applies here, but the front-​desk staff is friendly, welcoming and overall pretty helpful (except for one girl who must have a problem with her face because her nose is always stuck in the air, but luckily she’s not really there often… my guess is that she works the earlier shift) and the gym patrons are generally nice women who all have the same goal I do — lose weight, tighten up and dance like your life depends on it during Zumba :).
I also like that their personal trainers are NOT pushy, annoying or salesy. No one has ever interrupted my work out to sell me anything, yet they have several postings throughout the gym to inform us of «sales/​deals» and whats going on with their «small class» and «personal training» specials… I also like that’s it’s an all-​female gym and the ONLY time I like that is when I’m working out but it makes for a more comfortable environment and the instructors are really motivating and personable.
The lack of cell phone (for work purposes) does suck as this location is in a basement… also I don’t think the bathrooms are as dirty as some of the other Unilocal reviews say they are, I always see their cleaning staff around — I feel as if they clean in «real-​time» which is fantastic because they take pride in keeping things clean and sanitary and the hours aren’t too bad.
