Magnolia Bakery Rockefeller Center

Wow… wow…WOW! It really gets no better than Magnolia Bakery. I’m often around the Rockefeller Center area for work, but never had the time to wait in the long lines at Magnolia — and now I know why the lines are always so intense… THE BANANA PUDDING. I mean, how ridiculously good can a dessert be? I’m normally more into salty snacks but I’ve been converted.
Thanks to Magnolia Bakery, I now have night-​sweats if I do not stop by the delicious corner shop near Radio City Music Hall. On a regular, I buy multiple containers and store them in the freezer until I’m ready to indulge. The banana pudding is so stellar, that I’m not even sure what other items are featured on the menu. If you’ve never experienced Magnolia Bakery, you are definitely missing out. My only complaint — the large containers are not LARGE enough.

Cons – The frosting had an acidic taste. The cupcake fell apart so easily because the cupcake top was too thin. I was super disappointed since it’s a well-​known chain.

I prefer savory over sweet, but every once in a while my sweet tooth gets a hold of me — I’m sure many of you can relate! I strolled by Magnolia this past Saturday after spending the several hours in the morning working at my office. Maybe it was the stress of working on the weekend, but the cakes in the window caught my eye and I was drawn into the shop. What caught my eye was their homemade Banana Pudding which I was kindly allowed to sample. Boy o boy, that pudding was lip smacking good! I ended up buying the Large pint (about 5 inches in height and 3 inch diameter) which cost $ 6.50. Had I not had some self control, I would have eaten that entire thing before stepping out of the store. It was a good mix of banana chunks, pudding with wafer cookies all mixed together, and just the right amount of sweet.
It’s pretty small inside — to the left are display cases with a variety of cakes and cupcakes, muffins, brownies, cookies etc. and the cashier is towards the back. And given that it’s at Rockefeller Center, you get a steady stream of tourists who come in making an already tight space feel even tighter. What didn’t make any sense to me was that there were several workers behind the counter but only 1 or 2 were actually helping customers. There’s no semblance of a line since it’s too small to even cue up so if you want to order a dessert without having to wait 30 min, you better not be shy and make yourself known.

The best banana pudding in the world. Hands down. No contest. No comparisons.

I was craving dessert and just happened to be walking past this bakery so it was obviously fate that brought me here. When I arrived it was terribly difficult to choose what I wanted. But as soon as my eyes met the Banana Pudding, I needed it.
The pudding was so delicious. It was difficult to cap the pint so I didn’t eat the entire thing. It’s also really reasonably priced (a pint was $ 6.50).
So you must be asking why I didn’t give it 5 stars. The layout of the bakery was very uncomfortably small. At least there was an entrance on one side and an exit on the other next to the checkout counter. Additionally, there were about 10 people behind the counter but only 1 or 2 were helping customers. It seemed a little overwhelming with where the line begins, who to talk to, etc.

Ceux-​ci sont disposés dans une charmante boîte puisqu’il n’est pas possible de les déguster sur place. Cependant vu les charmants parcs dont disposent New York, rien de tel que d’être à côté d’un écureuil pour pouvoir les déguster.

I realize that I haven’t tried any Magnolia Bakery cupcakes but continue to eat other stuff. I tried the banana pudding, which was on point, but this time I came to try the coffee crumb muffin. I was so glad to try the muffin because it was great and nothing like the ones that stick in your mouth after munching. I am excited to try the other flavors, and probably should try the cupcakes above all.
Now, I recommend visiting near opening hours because it gets crazy crowded, especially in the late afternoon. I went a bit past 5 PM the other day and it was so crowded that I decided to not get anything. I came back the next morning at 9 am, shamelessly.

After hearing the rave about their banana pudding I decided to stop on in. What a bad decision, now I’m hooked! This isn’t great for a girl who is planning to restart her diet. This stuff is like drugs and I need my fix!

Oh. My. Bakery. I came to NYC for the holidays and on a walk to MoMa we stopped in to Magnolia Bakery. The line was pretty long but the service was awesome, the girls and boys behind the counter were super friendly and quick. We ordered a warm drink each, a few muffins, and couldn’t resist grabbing a small banana pudding. Everything I put in my mouth was delicious! The banana muffin and banana pudding were ridiculous! When I come back to the city I will DEFINITELY make my way back to Magnolia.

Les cupcakes et moi, ce fut longtemps des expériences décevantes, j’avais presque fini par laisser tomber l’idée de donner une nouvelle chance à ces petites pâtisseries. J’ai rencontré Magnolia Bakery et tout a changé.
La curiosité me titillant, j’ai pris un cupcake tout enrobé de vanille et j’ai clairement adoré. Le nappage est succulent, fondant tandis que la partie gâteau se mangent d’une traite, tout sauf bourratif, désagrément que j’avais trop tendance à trouver ailleurs.
Leur recette du pudding à la banane fait fureur. Rien que de l’imaginer, je m’en pourlèche les babines et elle a été inscrite d’emblée comme la prochaine de leurs gourmandises à essayer.

Super fun place to get your sweets. Can be very crowded and a little confusing need to get your goodies and then stand in another line and pay. I got 2 cookies … Sugar and peanut butter. Both yummy!!! Next time need to try cupcakes. Friendly service!

El día que subimos al Rockefeller mi hermana y yo decidimos ir ya que escuchamos muy buenas reseñas. Pedimos un brownie de peanut butter, manjarrrr que se gano mi corazón y un cupcake red velvet, que en mi opinión no era nada de otro planeta, me gusto pero hasta ahí; a lo mejor el resto de sus cupcakes son mucho mejores pero al menos de este, esperaba más. El local es divino, los precios son buenos, la atención también, sin dudas volvería para probar otra de sus cosas ricas.

We wandered in here after dinner with a sweet tooth. I saw the line and I was ready to move on. But Mr. Joy heard good things about the banana pudding. So he went ahead to the register and skipped the confusing line and hoards of people. We didn’t know that the banana pudding comes in different sizes. I think he inadvertently got the large. But we still finished it, no problem.
It is no doubt delicious. Sweet and creamy. I didn’t know if it was pudding or cake or cream. As I continued to eat it, it became almost too sweet. Still, I couldn’t stop eating it … until the container was empty.

Conveniently located on the Avenue of the Americas by the Rockefeller Center, they serve up some pretty good cupcakes at $ 4.00 a pop. But if you’re looking for the ultimate cupcake, I highly recommend the Red Velvet cheesecake; a fluffy, creamy, Red velvet cheesecake topped with whipped cream on an Oreo crust. It’s to die for and worth the $ 7.00 charge. I also had their large hot chocolate with whipped cream at $ 3.00. I was not a fan and found it not overwhelming at all. I will definitely be back to try other items that they offer like their cookies, brownies and banana pudding. This location gets extremely packed, so expect the line to be long and almost out the door.

My friends said I gotta try their banana pudding so we did. I actually like banana pudding. Also tried their snickers pie. We were curious what it was but it surprised us after taking a bite. It was actually realllly good.

I work nearby so Magnolia cupcakes are an office favorite. They’re not bad for being cupcakes, but I recently tried their banana bread pudding which was out of this world (and this is coming from someone who only likes bananas as a snack). It’s creamy goodness in your mouth that you’re just going to have to try for yourself. Kudos to the staff for offering to write a message for our interns on it — it was a hit!

This is a huge tourist trap. I repeat, this is a huge tourist trap. This place is always always always busy and it’s really hard to navigate. You basically choose/​ask/​take what you want to buy and you head all the way down to the cashiers.
I’ve been here about 3 – 4 times. I always like to stop by every time I’m in NYC just to relish in the havoc, I suppose. I’ve tried their cakes, their cupcakes, their cheesecakes, and they honestly don’t do anything for me. There was nothing amazing about them. There was nothing worth remembering either. It wasn’t until my last trip that I have discovered gold — why I definitely need to come each and every time I visit.
Their five star product: banana pudding. I don’t normally eat banana pudding because when I had a homemade one, it was intensely sweet. However, Magnolia’s version has got us begging for more. It was perfect. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and it was so creamy smooth. It would be the ONLY thing I recommend from Magnolia.
I’ll definitely be returning just for that pudding!

There’s a few Magnolia Bakery in New York City. This location at Rockefeller Center is a mad house considering its location.
Heading into Magnolia Bakery off of 6^th Ave (Avenue of the Americas), you’ll find that there’s not a lot of customer floor space. You’re supposed to walk in, order at the counter and proceed to the end of the counter and head out the shop through their exit only door that leads you to 49^th Street. That is supposed to be the flow of things, but remember its location, it’s Rockefeller Center, especially during around the holidays, is just completely mad.
It almost feels like a tourist trap, but it’s not. There’s no gimmick here. Magnolia Bakery offers a wide range of desserts. Cakes, cupcakes, tarts and cookies, but you can get this anywhere. You come here for the BANANA PUDDING! They’re famous for it. You order it by small, medium or large cups that they close up with lids like pints of ice cream. I have never had banana pudding before, but I’m a fan of banoffee pie so I figured I wouldn’t absolutely hate the idea. I did not regret getting that medium.
The banana pudding was pretty ah-​mah-​zing! The custard is a good consistency. And the meringue is light and fluffy. I only had a little bit immediately after ordering it and didn’t get to put it in a fridge for 16 hours. I took it out of the fridge right when I got home and it was almost like chilled banana ice cream.
While I was waiting to order this banana pudding, a worker behind the counter announced if you’re ordering cupcakes, you move further along the counter and order there. This ordering system got a little confusing and really shouldn’t be making it confusing when 5 people come into the shop every minute.
I’m glad I didn’t know about this place until the last day of my visit because I would have probably wanted to come here everyday.

Heavily populated with customers who are confused on where the lines were. There were signs above the counters but that didn’t really help the customers. Most of them were just standing by the front doors not knowing where to order. The counter had different sections of sweets in the showcase. One section would be cupcakes, banana pudding, and so on. At the very end is the cashier. It was such a small area that it was hard to even stay still for 2 minutes without someone pushing you.
I came for their banana pudding. It came in small, medium, and of course large. The banana pudding was way too sweet for my liking. The other flavors did come through but the sweetness overwhelmed the whole thing. It was way too sweet to even taste the banana.

Great spot by rockefeller center. Cozy up to the counter and order your cupcakes. The buttercream icing is delish. Not too sweet for my taste and goes well with the cupcake. I’d avoid the vanilla cupcakes as i found those to be too dry and dense. Favorites for me were the red velvet. Moist and satisfying. The double chocolate. No chocolate overload here. The banana nut was also good. Nice amount of banana flavor. But the shop isn’t just for cupcakes. They have one of the the best banana pudding’s around. Milky creamy and sweet with a good amount of banana flavor. Lots of sliced banana’s and vanilla wafers as well which always makes for a good pudding. Definitely a great shop for sweets.

I’ve been to the Magnolia Bakery in Los Angeles and while I thought the bakery was adorable I was unimpressed with the cupcakes.
This review is basically just the banana pudding because it’s life changing. When i got there it was packed and there were so mini banana pudding left so I was forced to get the large. DARN. It was $ 6.50 which I thought was a good deal since it’s basically a pint of edible gold.
I can’t even describe it. The perfect mix of creamy pudding, Nilla wafers, and sliced bananas. I immediately want to try to recreate it.
Even though it was packed I was in and out pretty fast. I can’t wait to try their other treats

Que riquísimos que son estos cupcakes mamita querida.
Quizás es porque como argentinos no tenemos tantas opciones de cupcakes bien hechos porque muchos se creen que son magdalenas decoradas, pero a mí estos me encantan.
Tienen una gran variedad de sabores, todos bien logrados. Mis favoritos: carrot cale y red vlvet.
El local no es muy grande y hay mucha gente. Es bastante un desorden, pero al final funciona. Primero elegís después pagas.
Tienen un packaging muy lindo y bien pensado. No hay espacio para comer ahí, pero si hay una barra para tomar cubiertos, servilletas etc.
Ademas de los cupcakes son famosos por el puding de banana: pruebenlo.
Tienen algunas opciones dulces más y café para llevar.
Hay que ir.
Los precios están bien y la atención es bastante amable a pesar del caos.

Magnolia Bakery was on my list of places to eat but we found it randomly while walking down the Ave of Americas. It’s a bit crowded inside but the line goes by pretty quick.
We got an order of their banana pudding and a blueberry cheesecake. MMMMM!!! I’m a sucker for sweets and this definitely fed my sweet tooth! I’ve never tasted banana pudding this good! It’s not too sweet, big portions (we got a medium to share, but I think a small would have been more than enough). The cheesecake was just as good too. Maybe we were better off with just one of these two because they were both pretty filling, but we had to try both! We could have saved one of them for later, but it was a humid day and either would have melted :(
Ahhhh cant wait to try more! I wish I could have my sister ship some of the banana pudding to me in California! (Yes! It’s THAT AMAZZZZING!)

Très bonne adresse pour un cupcake (nous avons testé le German Chocolate coco/​caramel/​noix et le Vanilla Buttercream), et leurs boissons y sont également délicieuses (le café latte glacé est succulent). Seul bémol: impossible de déguster sur place car rien n’est prévu à cet effet.

Cupcake vanille/​chocolat, 3 ans après mon premier peut être que je l’avais un peu idéalisé :) la texture est parfaite mais j’aurais aimé sentir plus le goût du chocolat et moins du sucre! Il faut encore que je teste le pudding banane.

Si la note serait pour le cupcake, j’aurai probablement mis 1 étoile. Certes ils sont beaux mais celui que j’ai pris (vanille qui est supposé être le plus populaire) était vraiment mauvais. J’ai d’ailleurs enlevé tout le glaçage qui était tout sauf naturel. La base n’est pas géniale, tout semblait artificiel. Le gâteau était assez aéré, ce qui le rends moins lourd avec le glacage au beurre.
L’organisation est très mal faite, la boutique n’est pas grande mais il y a différents comptoirs pour commander des cupcakes, pour les sucreries autre que les cupcakes et la caisse, tout ça dans un espace limité. Tout le monde double tout le monde, j’ai vraiment pas apprecié l’experience.
J’ai pris un banana pudding en plus qui était pas mal mais pas transcendant non plus. C’est assez original et je comparerai le pudding a de la pâté a gâteau (vous savez avant de mettre le gâteau au four) avec des morceaux de bananes, de la crème patissiere et des morceaux de gateaux natures.
Magnolia c’est bien pour prendre de belles photos mais rien de plus !

Et pourquoi n’existes-tu pas en bas de chez moi, en région parisienne?
Voyez-​vous, j’ai toujours été un poil déçue par les cupcakes. Jusque là, je pensais que bon, c’était très mignon tout ça, mais pas très fin. Les prix rédibitoires de la capitale n’aidant d’ailleurs pas.
Mais là, je me dis «Allez, c’est la maison mère, c’est dans Sex and the City, et accessoirement dans tous les city guides de New-​York. Allons tester la hype.»
En plus, ça me permettait de savoir si oui ou non, je pourrai classer définitivement le cupcake comme un truc fashion mais insipide.
J’entre, et là première surprise: il n’y a pas énormément de choix. Je m’imaginais des étagères de parfums différents, et là, il y en a… Quatre. Ah.
L’un d’eux attire tout de suite mon regard: un cupcake à la ganache bleue sur laquelle on peut lire «It s a boy!» sous une couronne. Hasard calendaire, ça tombe bien je suis une pigeonne monarchiste: j’achète.
Fidèle à mon régime US, je prends également le cupcake du jour: beurre de cacahouète fourré à la confiture. Complètement WTF pour l’européenne que je suis, et donc incontournable.
Le passage en caisse piqué un peu: 8,50 $ tout de même.
Néanmoins, la dégustation provoque chez moi des vagues de délice qui resteront gravés dans ma mémoiré, et qui, telles un supplice grec, me feront manger des cupcakes tout le reste de ma vie en espérant retrouver ce que j’ai pu gouter ce jour-​là.

Mais Magnolia Bakery est décidément partout ! Après mon expérience quasi-​divine de leur key lime cheesecake (voir mon avis du stand de Grand Central Station), j’ai été comme happé par cette boutique de la 6ème avenue, à deux pas du Rockefeller Center.
C’est l’heure du goûter, on se «contentera» donc d’un cupcake. Vais-​je être déçu, comme lors de mon précédent séjour à New York? J’avais snobé le petit gâteau que j’avais goûté dans la boutique historique au cœur du Village.
Que nenni mes amis: après la perfection du key lime cheesecake, je crois bien avoir découvert la perfection en matière de cupcake. Elle s’appelle sobrement «Banana».
Disponible en version fourrée et surmontée de crème au caramel, ce cupcake à la banane était ce jour-​là plus sobrement proposé non fourré, et accompagné d’une crème au beurre au chocolat.
Une pâtisserie à nouveau touchée par la grâce: le biscuit en lui-​même a un goût délicieux d’authentique gâteau à banane, une texture moelleuse et maîtrisée en plus. Rien à redire: les pâtisseries à la banane courent souvent le risqué d’avoir un goût vaguement chimique, ou un peu trop fort, et une texture sèche — comme beaucoup de cakes à la banane. Ici, c’est parfait, tout simplement. Le fabuleux «icing» au chocolat en est l’accompagnement idéal.
Difficile d’en dire plus ! À peine finit-​on de déguster le cupcake qu’on voudrait déjà en manger un deuxième… C’est sans doute la seule façon honnête de juger la qualité d’une pâtisserie !
