Make My Cake

I used Make My Cake for my wedding cake. The end result was a delicious and beautiful wedding cake that turned out exactly the way that we wanted. It was competitively priced.
Aside from being happy with the end result, I should mention that the staff is amazing. We had a wonderful time at the tasting. They helped us find what we wanted without being pushy. The owner is also really fussed about ensuring quality. She came herself to drop of the cake with one of her employees and ensured that the cake was positioned perfectly and that the fresh flowers she had to get from the florist looked just right.
The only downside is that the cake was huge and we can’t stop eating the leftovers (they freeze and defrost remarkably well). We’re both going to be much larger as a result of Make My Cake!

My sister and I ordered her baby shower cupcakes the day before the event. The cupcakes were beautiful and delicious. They matched our them perfectly. Thank you so much for your professionalism and fast work.

Made me an awesome birthday cake! Yummy and moist! The shops is adorable and the service was great. They were quite busy, even late in the evening…

I have a gluten intolerance so sadly I was not able to sample the delicious red velvet cake I bought. However, I got no less than absolute raves about the flavor, texture and taste. It was also commented that it was not overly sweet. So an all around scrumptious cake enjoyed, unanimously, by my coworkers. Thank you Make My Cake for making me look good!

Another little gem in harlem. The minute you walk in it’s like how you would have imagined the smell of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.
I usually get the cakes or cupcakes with butter cream. Today I got the French toast cupcake and a red velvet with vanilla cream for my princess.
Pricing is good and staff is always a pleasure. The cookies are also awesome. I never had the banana pudding but from what I hear it’s pretty delicious.
They also make custom cakes which are very good. Overall this is another hotspot in Harlem. Definitely a must visit!!!

All I have to say, is whenever I get invited to a dinner party the expectation is that I bring either the carrot cake, pecan pie, sweet potato pie, red velvet cake, or any kind of cup cakes. Always consistent, always NICE, and always a crowd pleaser! Thanks y’all for get tin’ it right!

Hello frosting.
Happened upon Make My Cake because I needed to use the bathroom (nice and clean btw). Got a no-​nuts red velvet cupcake. Looked at all the praise from Tina Fey as I forked the cupcake, shoveling large chunks into my mouth. Eating the thing made me happy despite thinking the place was overdecorated with stuff with bad fonts. The place felt really welcoming (for Harlem), and all the staff was nice. Went back the next day for the same cupcake with nuts. Glad they take CCs for small purchases.
Great place for stress-​relief eats. If this was in my neighborhood I’d get fat.

The sweet potato cheesecake is soooo delish! This is only desert I’ve eaten at MMC that has never disappointed. It’s done to perfection, which is probably why I eat it more often than I should. My cousin recently ordered the red velvet cupcakes for her birthday party & they were a hit! Indulgence once in a while is ok– yolo.

I heard about make my cake about 8 years ago. I wanted to buy my mother a birthday cake, and it was short noticed, the person behind the counter helped me out greatly and didn’t over charge me extra. I went back to Make My Cake for my mother’s 50^th birthday party. They did an amazing job!!! I asked for them to have a picture of my mother on her cake. The cake was so beautiful! Upset no one took pictures.
So when it was time for me to get married I had to come back. The owner of the shop sat with me and my husband listened to what we wanted and showed us what she can do. Very friendly very professional. Getting closer to our wedding there was a little issue in the communication department and the owner corrected the issue and was once again friendly and professional. Everyone LOVED our wedding cake!!! The design the taste everything!!! Thank you Make My Cake for helping making our wedding special. We will be back and send business your way. I owe you a picture!!!

So I have never been to the actual store but a friend buys their white cake all the time for our gatherings and it is always a hit! I love their cakes!!!

Make My Cake is hands down the reason I’ve gained 5lbs since moving to Harlem. Their red velvet cake is everything. I’m not even a sweets person, but have cravings for this cake. I’ve tried 2 or 3 other things here but the red velvet is the best.
Knocking 1 star off because for some reason the prices at the 116^th St location are randomly higher than they are on Adam Clayton (like $ 6/​slice vs $ 5 uptown). Not sure what that’s about.

It is cozy, cute and quaint! Much effort went into the décor of this harlem Gem! The bathroom is the cutest little magical whimsy –I found myself taking selfies in the bathroom lol. The services is always great — cheerful lil cake servers and the owner is known to pop in just to make sure customers are happy.
They make their own tea sachets (ask for the garden of Eden tea), absolutely delightful and soothing. The strawberry cake & lemon meringue pie are my favorites. Make my cake strives to serve their customers the best– Saratoga water, delicious soups and a cozy setting –yes I love this place and it is my harlem boudoir with perfect sweets for this Barbie Doll who loves her cake! Make my cake always makes my day! Barbie Armstrong– a very happy customer.

This is the 2^nd time that I’ve made a trip from lower Manhattan to this bake shop to be disappointed to find STALE CAKE once I got home. I know this shop well and have been a customer since the 90’s, but today is what matters and, today, they’re serving stale slices of cake and banana pudding that tastes like it was generated by a computer.
No, really.
Water based pudding, under-​ripe bananas, and generic wafer cookies. I make banana pudding often and there’s an undeniable element of creaminess when you make it with. milk, for example.
Dear Make My Cake: Please return to making your desserts with your heart and soul, or hire people who are willing to do the same.

Let me first say that my family has been a long time supporter of the make my cake establishment. we’ve not only used them for many special occasions but also for whenever we felt like a sweet treat.
now i don’t know if the mgmt or staffing has changed in the last 15 years but my latest experience has left me feeling saddened to the point that I will never patronize Make My Cake ever again.
I ordered 24 cupcakes for a friend’s 30^th birthday party the week prior to the party. I currently reside in DC so I placed the order over the phone. when I placed my order with the lady (I believe her name is Kelly) she was not only abrupt but she made me feel like I had very limited options in my request. I told her this was for a special occasion and that I wanted the cupcakes to reflect my appreciation for the birthday girl. I asked for custom assorted cupcakes with the inscription «Shavon’s 30^th». I was told that the cupcakes were too small for that writing. Although I was disappointed I said ok and she assured me that she would personally make sure the cupcakes came out «fabulous».
What I received instead was atrocious. Not only did they look ugly but they were not at all a reflection of the Make My Cake establishment I’ve patronized for years. There was no assortment at all. It appeared there were more yellow «traditional cupcakes» than any other. I asked for more red velvet cupcakes and received only 4. 12 of the 24 cupcakes were literally only black and white. Further the cupcakes looked like a child wrote on them instead of a master baker/​pastry chef.
For that to be 85 dollars is not acceptable. I was told to go to Georgetown Cupcakes (DC), Magnolia Bakery, Baked by Melissa, Crumbs, or Sprinkles and instead I chose Make My Cake because of my loyalty and because they are a black owned business.
Further after reaching out to the Make My Cake staff a young man jerrell (whom was really nice i will say) said that my complaint would be forwarded to the current owner Aaliyah along with an email I sent. Ask me if this lady responded? not one single word.

Sooo… I had high hopes for their red velvet cupcake and my hope crashed and burned! They’re pretty but that’s it and at $ 4.50 per cupcake, I need more than pretty. The cupcake just tasted… blah and nothing like red velvet. Matter of fact, I kind of tasted some lemon which I didn’t appreciate. The pros are that they were moist and they didn’t douse it with icing. $ 4.50?! And the set up of this location is horrible.
Disappointed MMC. Very disappointed.

I never like giving non flattering reviews but the cake my sister and I ordered for our baby sister’s baby shower was horrible!
We ordered a strawberry shortcake and it was more like cornbread from Thanksgiving!
I will not be purchasing or recommending them to anyone… Betty Crocker would of been better!
It’s a shame when businesses get established and quality falls way off. I’m extra saddened since it’s a Black owned bakery. I was robbed!

Great Service and delicious cakes.
I walked in on a Friday afternoon for a last minute coconut cake and came out with a delicious 10″ inch coconut cake with pineapple filling.
Although the cake was way over the size I needed for $ 55.00 a 10″ cake serves 15– 20 people at least; it was so worth it.
PS if you want a smaller cake you have to call a few days before for a special order.

Stopped into this location since it is around the corner from my house. The staff was rather helpful. I ordered just a vanilla cupcake. Got home and tried it. It was rather good. The cupcake was pretty good. It didn’t knock my socks but it was good. It wasn’t dry at all and tasted very fresh. I will give it another go and try the red velvet next.

You haven’t had cake until you try Make My Cake. The red velvet will make you confess your wildest dreams. I’m so serious. I like their red velvet because it all natural. They use tomato dye to make it red not food coloring. They have over 10 cakes served by the slice, whole or cupcake but I seem to only stick with red velvet. This is the only place I go for such cake… unless I head back home to the south!
Don’t try the peach cobbler. It’s runny and not well tasting. It should be thick with a nice layer of crust on top… or buscuit but not sure what’s going on there.
Cookies are yummy. You may not like every thing but you can walk away liking something.
Also read a lot of reviews stating bad customer service. Here’s my humble opinion. This is a family business in which their high schoolers are running the shop. They have no decision making power and they are not in a tipping industry setting to provide excellent service. The young girl behind the counter gets an attitude when i try to pick my slices instead of taking what she gives me. I am not surprised by the poor service because unless my daughter was a beauty queen or rising actress trained to charm ppl, i would never stick them in front of such an establishment to run a lucrative business. They should be at their friends house reading babysitter club books, Nancy drew, or checking face book.
