Cute Italian place a stones throw away from the hectic meatpacking area. I came here with two friends when looking for Pizza on a Saturday afternoon. We wanted somewhere quiet where we could sit and relax and found the perfect spot! We shared a prosciutto pizza and an order of the Burratta. Both were very tasty and filling. The pizza had a nice, thin, perfectly crispy crust with a generous heaping of prosciutto on top. The burratta was perfect and creamy, everything a burratta should be and more. We requested some bread to work as a vehicle for consuming the burratta, and although our server took a while to bring it, the delayed gratification made the burratta all that more delicious.

Great for breakfast! I have been coming to Malaparte for years for dinner. Easy, relaxed food in a lovely setting with great people. Recently realized they are open for breakfast and coffee from 7.30 and I’m delighted to add a visit there to my morning routine.

Such a great neighborhood standby. As you probably read, cash only. But to make up for it, prices are super reasonable. I love the truffle mushroom pasta, the mushroom pizza, and any of their salads. Sometimes their specials are a little off the mark. Their steak is decent but this isn’t a steakhouse. However that’s totally forgivable! Their menu staples are delicious. Inexpensive wines, nice Italian waiters, cozy ambiance. Love Malaparte!

Good luck getting in here. They cannot manage waits or their tables even with a reservation. I’ve been burned 3 times by this place. Worst was a 20 minute estimate that turned into 1.5 hours. Currently 20 minutes past a reservation for 7, being told 15 minutes more.

Tucked away in the more quieter part of the West Village is Italian restaurant Malaparte. Welcoming and romantic, the sister restaurant to Malatesta Trattoria offers an underwhelming but reliable menu with great beer and wine options. The menu comes inspired by Rimini, Italy on the coast of the Adriatic Sea — the hometown to restauranteur and founder Emanuele Attala. My friend and I came here for authentic, classic Italian food and having been to the sister restaurant I knew Malaparte wouldn’t disappoint. As we walked north on Washington Street, the streets were fairly quiet. The restaurant ended up being on the corner of Bethune Street with tables and chairs set up for the oddly mild December evening. Walking in past the bolded handwritten ‘Cash Only — ATM Inside’ signs and menus, we glanced around to wait for someone to seat us. We lucked out since no tables were available but we were able to sit and eat at the bar. The bar area felt like the rest of the restaurant — rather than the standard feeling of being segregated from everyone else. We were quickly offered water with bread, olive oil and salt. Our server behind the bar quickly and neatly set-up our place with paper place mats whilst consistently apologizing for«the reach». The woman who originally sat us passed by to check to see if everything was ok. We said yes but if a table opened up we would like to sit there. She straddled a pessimistic/apprehensive vibe while eventually saying that she’d look out for a table. Ultimately, we wound up switching to a table which was a smooth transition with three people moving our plates over just in time for our appetizer. We decided to eat light and still indulge so we opted for the Di Rucola E Agrumi, a salad with rucola, grapefruit, orange & mint. A part of me was reluctant to have something(anything) with mint in it but I wanted to try something new. The salad had a lightly sweet dressing with thinly glazed orange peels with just a hint of mint that was not the least bit overwhelming. Now the part where we indulged was splitting the Di Porcini Tartufata, one of their six slice pizzas with porcini mushrooms, mozzarella, truffle oil and grana(a famous cheese in Italy!). The pizza dough was not too thick or thin and each bite was tasty and sent your taste buds into pure happiness. Other appetizer options seemed only ok(standard mussels, soup of the day and seared tuna) and mains seemed more promising but pasta options appearing to be dry(one had no tomato base, another just pesto). However, from the looks of it each plate that passed us by looked like exceptional portions that promised fresh ingredients and satisfied tastebuds. We declined dessert — although that menu seemed appealing offering plates for everyone — and got the bill. My friend went to the restroom, giving me an opportunity to better observe my surroundings. The places was dimly lit with soft lighting and candles, allowing for a romantic, comforting atmosphere. Servers kept buzzing past and everyone around me was either laughing, eating or smiling after taking a bite of their food. I noticed mostly smaller parties were here and one birthday party, which I later learned got a reservation ahead of time only because there were 4+ people.(Otherwise, reservations are not taken allowing those people like my friend and I to have a chance to walk-in and sit down). Throughout the time we were eating until it was time to actually leave, the front of the venue became quite crowded. It was clear it wasn’t because of the weather but people were anxious to snag a table and make sure Malaparte was where they were having dinner that night.. However, it didn’t make the crowd any less annoying as it took several moments to physically get out the door. Meanwhile, the rest of the restaurant was still intimate and cozy with the hum of other conversations and laughter filled the air making you realize that music was not require to enjoy the evening. Ultimately, I left full and happy looking forward to the next time I get to come here to enjoy a meal in the WV.

we arrived late — Friday night at 9, and were asked if we’d like to wait 45mins and have a drink at the bar. We ordered a bottle of prosecco — delicious — and in less than 20 mins we were ushered to our table. Great menu, simple, with variety. The service was excellent and everyone spoke Italian which made it more lovely. Our pizzas were fantastic — great thin base, and we shared a tiramisu, just as good. The manager can be seen serving customers and smiling which makes it even better. Great location, atmosphere and very fairly priced.

This place is pretty good. We came here on a Sunday before heading home for lunch and it was very good. My friend suggested it. We ordered pizzas and pastas and they hit the spot. The pesto was great as well. The waitress told me they also serve fresh pasta but they were out of it. I strongly suggest coming here and eating. You wont be disappointed.

Went there on a Saturday evening. Although we had no reservations, we were lucky that a group did not show up and we were seated after waiting by bar for 10 minutes. Make reservations and stick to 4 or less people! Ambiance: Small and tight yet vibrant. energy was fun, It can get a bit loud, so perhaps not the best place to have a convo. Service: All the waiters are men, some quite good looking. Reminds me of Italy. One of our waiter looked like Mediterranean Adam Levine and the other like Justin Timberlake. They were all friendly, although one of them messed up the order of one of the girls. Hostess was nice. Food: We had the mussels in red sauce for appetizer and omg it was good. The sauce is so good for bread dipping, I wanted to drink it. One of the specials of the night was artichoke and spinach lasagna and it was to die for. They should make that part of their regular menu. My other friend wanted the regular lasagna and was told they ran out. How do your run out of a dish? Specially at 9pm? They should make more dishes on Saturdays. Price: Pretty decent for the area for the food. The wine by the glass a little overpriced($ 12 – 13)., Overall the quality of the food was quite good. Its location is quite a walk from the train, so I can’t say I would rush to return but if looking for a good Italian restaurant in the area, I highly recommend.

Obsessed. Why are all the dishes and servers so pretty? No gimmicks here, just straight shooting, great Italian food. Still dreaming about my porcini rigatoni. Heads up! Cash only but they do have ATMs inside!

Perfect! I recently had some friends together for a birthday dinner here at Malaparte.(They accept reservations for larger parties) Love this place, I wish it was my neighborhood spot, but I just don’t live close enough! ha I got there a bit early, so had some wine at the bar. The bartenders are very friendly and helpful. This is where I found out about a really good white wine… Soave Classico. I’ve never had it before, highly recommended. Once everyone arrived the wait staff was very helpful with deciding what to get to share, etc. We ended up with the grilled calamari with calamari and the burrata/prosciutto to start… along with a couple bottles of the Soave Classico. Everyone was pleased with the meal. Their home made pasta was really good, but even the regular pasta with their sauces were great! We tried the spaghetti(homemade) al pesto genovese, rigatoni ai porcini, pizza di porcini tartufata, and a special farfalle with salmon. When our waitress found out it was my birthday, she brought out a tiramisu with a candle for dessert. Everyone was really happy with it all! Thank you Malaparte for an excellent birthday!

I had lunch there, the outdoor sitting area is so pleasant. I got the beet arugula ricotta salad, it was amazing. Also got a cappuccino and it was great. Will be back for dinner service.

We loved dining here. We scored a cute table outside and it wasn’t next to anyone which we always prefer. Everything was fantastic including the carbonara(have to say probably the best or top 2 carbonaras that I’ve had), the pizza and burrata. We would definitely dine here again especially as it’s really value for money and the service was great!

Food was alright. Nice environment. But the waiter forces us to tip 20% when we left 15% of total amount. All he did was taking order and serving food and he said if everything was good we have to leave 20%. I was very unhappy about this.

This is a go-to spot for a big group dinner or even just a romantic bite for two. The food is fantastic. The wine, list and prices, is absolutely agreeable. The service and general dining environment are highly enjoyable. This is a great spot in a special part of the village.

Go for the location, not for the food and service. Well, the calamari appetizer was not bad. The branzino came out dry and was quite small. The service was incredibly slow. They took probably more than 15 minutes to even offer to take our drink order and everything proceeded from there. Annoyingly enough, when the waiter did drop by he would always push us to order more. I’m in no rush to return.

Great, personable service. Accommodating, full of advice. If one knows how to ask questions re: Italian wine and food — some really super grilled calamari — done *just right* and some adventure picks on wine. Nota bene: cash only.

I came here while visiting New York, and my friend, who lives in the area, recommended we meet here. I’m so glad we did. I’m always a little hesitant with Italian food because it has the ability to be so generic. And while the menu was small and featured fairly common options, they were each spectacular. The staff, who spoke solely in Italian to one another, felt like family serving you. They offered us tastes of two different wines as we couldn’t decide and then after going through a craft(a little over 3 full glasses, definitely the deal to do) they gave us each another glass for free. The Pinot they have available by glass was delicious! The server could even tell which was which just by looking at the color, it was wonderful. My friend got the lasagna and I got the pizza special. We shared both and it was truly a gift. The pasta had a homemade Bolognese sauce and large tube noodles. It was a pretty substantial portion as well. We couldn’t even finish the pizza afterward. The pizza was a a thin crust mozzarella, lightly sauced. It had a salted prosciutto, softened potatoes and sea salt on top. Remarkable. I could eat it for the rest of my life and find new joys each time! They started us with focaccia bread, oil and balsamic vinegar. It was good but skip if you plan on ordering a couple things because it will fill you up and I wish I could have eaten more of my entrees! Enjoy your Italian experience and utilize the staff, they know what they are talking about.

The big boss took us here for a celebratory team dinner because it’s his favorite restaurant, and I can see why! Pros: * Elegant and warm ambiance that makes you feel like you’re not in Manhattan anymore. * Malaparte is great for big groups– unlike other restaurants where big parties are squeezed tightly together shoulder to shoulder… our party of 11 sat comfortably and chatted away without shouting or straining to hear. * The winning dishes were pretty much everything! We loved and recommend the Calamari, Grilled Italian Sausage & Grilled Polenta(some of the best polenta I’ve tasted!), Grilled Octopus Salad, Pear Arugula Salad, and Homemade Ground Beef Lasagna & Tomato Sauce. All these dishes were served in generous portions, perfectly cooked and seasoned. * Finished off with delectable desserts of Tiramisu, Apple Strudel a la Mode and Chocolate Mousse with Whipped Cream! All delicious! Cons: * Cash only * My entrée of Grilled Sirloin Steak, Rucola, Grana & Balsamic Concentratewas underwhelming. Although beautifully presented and cooked medium rare– the meat was dry! When the rest of the food was superb, I expected the steak to melt my mouth. Tips: * Malaparte is wine and beer only– and we enjoyed our recommended red and white wines.

A nice, quaint Italian restaurant in the West Village with good mood lighting and ambiance. They were nice to accommodate our group of 15 people, and didn’t once try to rush us out even when they had other people waiting for tables. Service was friendly and they were always coming around to provide us with refilled water jugs, in addition to offering refills on our drinks. The food was good. I ordered the lasagna and it was very tasty. A bit on the salty side, but you expect that to some degree from a lasagna full of meat, cheese, and sauce. I actually arrived late and ended up eating my lasagna after it was sitting on the table for about 30 minutes — even then it was good, so I would imagine it’s even better when hot/warm. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a cute Italian restaurant to go to in the West Village area.

This is a very cute place with great Italian food. My tip to you is … Order anything with mushrooms and you won’t be disappointed(it’s really that good) … And the only ding I would give them is — some of the dishes were a bit on the salty side(not overly so, but noticeable)… I went for a friend birthday dinner(all 15 of us)… It’s a great place to share entrees and get a taste of everything — Polenta with mushroom — amazing appetizer that we couldn’t get enough of — penne with mushroom — again, mushrooms were tasty(pasta was al dente) but this was slightly salty — pizza — the artichoke pizza Had a good crunch and was yummy… though the cheese on top made the pizza greasier/oiler than I would like(but still good) — lasagna bolognese — good size portion and tasty… — spaghetti carbonara — a bit salty, and was missing something — probably my least favorite dish of the night(surprisingly) Other last minute thoughts: — Staff is awesome and very friendly! — very cute, and could be a potential date place with a refreshing breeze that comes through the restaurant — it’s cash only(entrees 15 – 18 each) + drinks, you can do the math :) Despite some saltiness, i would give this a high 3 star, almost 4 star… And I would come again! Happy eating!
