I’ve been a customer for years but I’m pretty pissed right now. Apparently this company thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to wake up an entire household at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning to simply tell me that my bill was past due. Are you kidding? What planet are you on that this is a good time to call a customer? Even telemarketers don’t do this. Well guess what? I’m going to pay my bill today and then immediately look into a different storage option preferably with a company that understands basic manners.

We had a storage bin that was robbed. It had to be an inside job because the locks were not broken. We lost an antique clock, a coin collection, a professional camera, expensive leather briefcases, a leather jacket, a telescope, a rifle, and a ham radio transceiver. All together it’s a loss of more than $ 12,000. What a disappointment — and a nightmare. Not insured.

Mamhattan Mini Storage really came through in a pinch. We needed a space for no more than a month to accommodate an in-​town relocation. Reserving a space was easy and efficient. The facility is about as close to perfect for an urban setting — clean, bright, immaculately maintained. And the staff members couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. Highly recommended!

This location is great and the staff, particularly johathan, is very professional, helpful, and detail oriented. Have been to other storage buildings over the years, and this one is above and beyond any other i have used in the past.

Their staffs are very quick and efficient. $ 56 for their minium/​smallest storage per month which is enough and still big for me. The price is good, the place and nice, clean and well organized. I am happy with everything here by far. If you are student, bring your student ID with you when you come, they will waive your deposit/​security fee with vaild student ID.

I’m updating my review in response to the manager’s comment to my review regarding the cumbersome ladders where she suggested getting a unit on the ground level. A unit on the ground level is twice the price for the same size which is not a solution.

Awesome experience in this branch of Manhattan Mini Storage. Had the pleasure of dealing with Ms Patricia Toribio who was absolutely brilliant! She presented all the options available, explained everything regarding terms very clearly and made the process so much less stressful. The free Storage taxi is fantastic, they will even sign for your packages in the building if you have stuff sent there. Open early til late it’s perfect for my schedule and as a bonus it’s one of the cleanest storage facilities I’ve been in. Keep up the good work guys and THANK YOU Patricia!

This review is for the West 107^th St facility specifically… because the people who work there are awesome. Patricia the manager and a nice young woman named Sakura are just a delight. I can’t believe Patricia always remembers me, but maybe because there was so much hoopla with my move in (all my fault to be fair). Two thumbs up, five stars, high five, all that for Patricia and her team!
As for the company as a whole, Manhattan Mini Storage and I have a love-​hate relationship. They make it easy, fairly convenient, and quick especially for last minute move ins. 9 times out of 10, really great customer service, REALLY great. Do they charge residential apartment rates for units that are always a few inches short, charge me for windowsills halfway up the wall, or my favorite, giant chunks of space taken away by pipes, columns, etc? Yup. But what are ya gonna do… they try and make up for it I think with conveniences like carts, that Storage Taxi, etc.
I have another unit downtown now, over the years have had MMS units here and there and yonder, and this place on 107 is by far my fave. As a company though, they make a hell of an effort, which says a lot. I won’t be specific, but there was an emergency at the downtown facility, and I was impressed to see they brought in managers and help from all over the city to mitigate the damage and assist customers.
I guess all in all, the main reason for not giving that fifth star is the shenanigans all the time with measurements of units. Yea, that’s it. I’d gladly pay for a unit of x-​dimensions if I knew that was what I was getting, but close enough works I guess. Kinda like four out of five stars, right? Close enough.

The 110^th Facility is clean and has easy access. The drawback is that MMS business model imposes automatic annual increases on the storage units. The price will rise until the customer moves out. For a company that spends heavily on billboard/​subway advertising to attract new customers, they don’t seem interested in retaining long-​term customers.

Done with Manhattan Mini-​storage. Despite the clever ads, this place is a sucker’s game. They sign you up for «low low prices,» they know moving stuff’s a pain in the butt, so they got you — each year they sock it to you baby. Bye bye low low prices! Now that they upped me over $ 200 for my box, that’s it, I am OUT OF THERE. See ya suckers!

I deeply appreciate how much Manhattan Mini Storage’s focus is on a glowing Unilocal posting. It is clear the facility has been purchased by a different company since my original Unilocal posting, with very different policies.
If one is using the 107 Street location, which remains impeccably clean– I recommend Mr. Tonny Garcia or Ms. Toribio for outstanding customer service.

I’ve done business with the UWS MMS for the last three years; as a Columbia student, I wanted a flexible storage arrangement near campus that gave me control over when and how I stored/​picked up my stuff. MMS is virtually turnkey, complete with clean facilities and every convenience necessary for a hassle-​free move.
In particular, I’ve repeatedly had the pleasure of dealing with Tony and Patricia, who are always professional, helpful, and kind. Moving stuff in NYC is pretty low on my list of fun activities, but Tony, Patricia, and the MMS staff make it just about as pleasant as it could be. Highly recommended.

I just moved out because of the new manager that has taken over. Pharma reps are only allowed 10 case deliveries and after six years they decided to enforce it. I felt that it was wrong to treat a customer this way.
All previous managers called u as soon as the shipments come in. This manager kept my packages for about a month and then, I guess realized they were there and called me after about a month to let me know I had to remove them. After telling her why didn’t call me earlier, she said they did buy couldn’t show me the calling logs. Why wouldn’t u keep calling or have the boxes removed since that’s their policy. In other words she screwed up. Then I talk to a couple of people at the place and they say im. not the only one moving out. Lol.
Pharma reps be aware.
I’m a fair person and I enjoyed the people there but under no circumstances would I store my things in a place that’s not flexible to my needs. I moved out to Apple storage on 121 Street between 2^nd and 3^rd. More space for less money.

this place is excellent. and julio is the best! my mom has mental retardation and cancer. my dad has cancer and so do i. we live on disability and couldn’t afford the bill. we were a few months behind. instead of selling our stuff or threating us. julio said «If you can clear out your storage by the 14^th, you owe us NOTHING.» i did what he said and we owe nothing. he has been the only nice person to us. our food stamps got cut off and we go to soup kitchens. god bless him and Manhattan mini storage this place is wonderful. now i have things to pass down to my children because i sold all my family’s jewelry to make rent. god bless you julio!

What a terrible experience. Columbia fall athletes beware! Even though I was promised a free shuttle to take my college box back to the campus during fall move in and that I could pick it up at any time… The promise was not true. They were inflexible and not accommodating at all. Do NOT store your stuff with them and expect it to be easy to retrieve for preseason. It won’t be.

I started using Manhattan mini storage couple months ago and the staff there are just so helpful and kind! Tonny is one of the best, he always greets us with his lovely smile and always try to help me as much as he can. I usually receive a lot of boxes and he is always patient and makes sure I get all the delivery information on time. Thank you so much Tonny & the team!

Lesson learned: make your reservation online, bring a copy of your renter’s insurance.
After a long day and 3 visits to the place, I’m finally a proud renter of an MMS unit. I’m excited about free coffee and UPS pick-​up and van usage.
It was an absolute pain in the butt to get to this point because 1) if you just go in and ask for a quote, it will be higher than the internet rates and they can’t adjust the contract without an internet reservation at the internet rate and 2) they’ll charge you an additional $ 10 for some farcical insurance policy unless you bring your own proof of insurance. They’ll also tell you that most renter’s insurance doesn’t cover property at a storage unit which is a bold faced lie.
But, I have keys in hand and a clean storage unit and free coffee and UPS pick-​up and van usage now. Word to the wise: reserve online and bring your renter’s policy.
If you don’t have one, they only cost $ 10 a month through State Farm and cover theft and fire and everything else in your apartment as well as the storage unit, so there really is no point in buying the MMS policy, unless you like to waste perfectly good money.

UPDATE AS OF SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2012: STORM SURGE FROM HURRICANE SANDY.
Hurricane Sandy’s tidal surge completely overran the 531 West 21^st Street location, submerging 300 units in the basement (including mine) and a good portion of the first floor, too,. Because Manhattan Mini Storage did not send ANY advance notice ahead of the storm to its customers that this specific facility was in FLOOD ZONE A (highest risk, as designated by Mayor Bloomberg), customers like me who lived at a distance and were preoccuppied with hurricane preps at our homes and jobs LOST EVERYTHING TO STINKING HUDSON RIVER AND SEWER BACKFLOW.
This negligence (failure to provide advance caution to remove stored basement items) literally turned the lives of as many 300 customers UPSIDE DOWN. When I opened my storage locker on Day 10 after Sandy struck, all my property was up-​ended, waterlogged, moldy and destroyed after being submerged in briny Hudson waters for several days. I know that NO notice was given in advance to customers, because I surveyed fellow shell-​shocked 531 West 21^st Street customers as we moved through the upsetting and disgusting task of emptying/​examining our utterly ruined personal possessions.
THIS IS A TRAVESTY THAT O-​N-​E SIMPLE, ADVANCE BROADCAST WARNING E-​MAIL TO CUSTOMERS COULD HAVE PREVENTED, However, Manhattan Mini Storage apparently had issues with flooding at this very location in the past (prior to Sandy) and may not have wanted to raise this red flag with present or future customers. So what did they do??? NOTHING. They allowed us, their unfortunate customers, to BEAR THIS FLOODING RISK — making their neglect to warn us about this specific facility’s danger from Sandy even worse, Management were aware that our insurance coverage WOULD NOT COMPENSATE CUSTOMERS FOR FLOODING.

At the West 58^th St location my stuff was safe, the facilities were very clean, and I felt safe on the storage floor. Desk staff were also generally very helpful. However, I didn’t have the «luxurious» experience that others mention — I understand that different facilities (some older, some newer) vary along the amenities continuum.
When I checked in to my unit in 2003, there was a burned-​out flourescent bulb right over my unit, making it hard to see inside the unit. I advised the management several times over the years, but they never made the repair. I vacated my unit in mid-​2010 and the bulb was still broken.
I would advise new storage renters to be aware that you will be asked abot your «off-​premises insurance coverage». Caveat emptor! This form of coverage is part of many homeower or renter insurance policies, that protects your property outside your insured home (e.g, at a storage facility, or in your car). Manhattan Mini-Storage’s policy does NOT require you to pay extra each month for their in-​house «KeepSafe» insurance plan — if you are SURE that you already have this private coverage through your existing insurance, you are now free to decline it and save yourself money on your monthly rental rate. But, do check with your own insurer to make sure that your property is covered, before you decline this insurance from MMS. You’d be very sorry if some loss (fire, theft) occurrred at your storage unit, and you were to realize too late that your stored property was unprotected.
Be flexible about the particular storage location that you reserve with MMS! You can save a great deal on your rates by asking their advisors about alternate locations, AND by committing to minium storage periods (e.g., 6 months at least).
And…what’s not to like about their new, FREE «Storage Taxi» service?
I need storage again now, and thanks to finding some fantastic rates when I CALLED Manhattan Mini-​Storage this week, and to their new storage taxi, I will soon be a happy MMS customer again.
