This was my first time practicing kungfu and i really like it! The teachers and students here are very nice, although there are not many students, which surprises me because it’s a really enjoyable class. However i’m also kind of glad about it since fewer students = more personal attention ;) I’m someone who hates to exercise; so the only«exercise» i do often is walk, dance, hike, and sometimes yoga. I find that kungfu is really nice for stretching and strengthening the body in a balanced way. The practice space on Spring street is simple but suitable for practicing. I think that as the weather gets warmer, there will be more practice meetings outside as well.

I joined this school a couple years after college where the pounds had piled on. Within a short time I was losing several pounds each month consistently. This school was one of the best things I did for my health. It was certainly very hard work, but it was well worth it.

Shifu Chao Hai is a Secular Disciple from the Shaolin Temple in China. His Kung Fu skill level is remarkable. If you are looking to be taught Authentic Shaolin Kung Fu than this is the place. I have done research, taken trial classes and compared other Kung Fu schools and am glad to have joined this one. This is my first time trying out Kung Fu and Although I was intimidated at first, I realized that people come with all different skill levels and Shifu Chao Hai takes his time when training new students making sure they learn not only perfect form but also the application of each move. I highly recommend this school for anyone interested in Kung Fu.

If you are looking for a calm zen place in the midst of all the New York City craziness, traditional shaolin kung fu training, traditional san da fighting training, or just a good work out, I highly recommend the Manhattan Shaolin Kung Fu branch. I have been attending for about a year now and it has been an amazing experience. The shifu there really sees students’ strengths and specialties and pays extra attention to that to help bring out the best. Of course since it’s a traditional school, the workouts are difficult and the body can take a beating, but what you learn and take away from it is pretty cool. The Manhattan school is the official branch of the Shaolin Temple Overseas Headquarters in Flushing which is also great. To all those curious about kung fu or martial arts, you should check out this traditional style. You won’t be disappointed!
