I don’t know if it was the microwaved eggs, questionable deli meat or old/stale bread but this place gave me food poisoning. You really get what you pay for.

While this might be a great stop for a quick coffee fix, as a lunch option it leaves a bit to be desired. The whole place is about the size of a closet, and accordingly the sandwich menu is quite short. In the face of such limited options, I decided on a Mexican Pork sandwich.* I’m not sure what I was expecting with the limited space, but what I got was microwaved pork slapped on the same dry hero roll that you can find in bodegas across the city. I appreciate that they took the time to slice fresh avocado and layer it on with some cheese and lettuce… but the end result needed more hot sauce, better bread, and better… everything. Filling, but not particularly tasty. Affordable, but not particularly cheap. I’d say it’s on par with a mobile lunch cart; I’d stop in for a hot chocolate, coffee or a croissant when it’s convenient, but I wouldn’t make it a sandwich destination. ______________ *With many options, I probably still would’ve gotten the Mexican Pork Sandwich.

Stopped by here to grab a quick bite to eat. It’s definitely a small«hole in the wall» kind of place. Got the egg, ham, cheese on croissant. It was good, but the croissant was a bit dry, but they had just the right portions of each that nothing was overwhelming in terms of flavor. Overall, okay.

Its freezing outside and all I needed was a nice and cheap breakfast… And that is what I got! The coffee is really good, but the best was the eggs, ham and cheese roll!!! Very nice people in a tiny cozy place. I was planning on sitting but there is literally no space to sit, there could only be three people inside at the same time!

Coffee is important to me. Really. I hate Starbucks, I like dark real coffee. That’s why I love Mapi. I get my café con leche, or regular coffee here for cheap, fast and with lovely Jaime(the owner) giving smiles away. Sometimes I’ll grab a bagel, an empanada(they are a must!) Or a cookie. If you’re around the neighborhood and need breakfast on the run or just nice cheap coffee, here’s your place!

I think the Best thing about this place is the owner. He is very friendly and nice… I don’t like the seating in front of the store… its on the sidewalk…

This place is about as big as a food truck with ten times the selection. I’d typically come in for a tea with extra honey and ham & cheese on croissant. Perfect! The people who work here remember you if you come in often enough and will have your order ready by the time you reach the front of the line. Mapi, is a great alternative to pretty much anything in the area. Wish they were open later, but otherwise they always hit the spot!

Mapi’s is a hidden gem within the West Village. The best and freshest coffee you could ask for and the toasted peanut butter and jelly are out of this world. The breakfast sandwiches are filling and delicious. I come here several times a day. A can’t miss!

I like it here. I’ve come here several times when I was in a rush to grab some form of caffeinated drink and possibly a snack. Still, I’m amazed at the high ratings this place is getting. The coffee here is decent, but definitely not the best I’ve had. I really enjoyed the Café Olé and the price couldn’t be beat — I could never say no to cheap, strong coffee! But when I ordered an iced coffee I saw them pouring it out of a pitcher that was out in the open. er, okay. The taste definitely wasn’t as good; I’d say stick to the Olé and other strong drinks they have. I had a Turkey & Cheese Croissant which was nothing too exciting. I could have made the same thing in my room. Like a previous reviewer, the croissant tasted microwaved and really soft without the flakiness that the exterior should have. Inside were just regular turkey and cheese cutlets. The sandwich was really small too, which could be a problem for someone who was bigger and/or hungrier than I was. I did like their chocolate chip cookie a lot. Big and crispy with lots of chocolate chips! I may have to come back for another one of these.

Ham, egg & cheese on a roll, ftw! Makes an awesome on-the-go snack. Okay, some may call it a «meal», but I’d rather classify it as a snack. On-the-go snack, as a matter of fact. I kinda went out of my way to stop by Mapi, and am glad I did! The line got pretty long once I was waiting for my order(and it was way past lunch hour). I got myself a ham, egg & cheese on a roll with iced tea. Should’ve treated myself to a chocolate chip cookie, but there’s always next time. TIP: take cash! There’s an ATM machine outside, but save yourself the trouble(and avoid the long line) and take cash with you!

This place is great. Good sandwiches & bagels, cheap coffee, nice people, quick service. No attitudes/blank stares that you will get at the other, larger delis in the area. As another reivewer said, it seems like a lot of people are recognized and get ‘the usual.’ I dream of the day I can get the usual, unfortunately I am only an occasional customer so it may never be. They love you when you bring exact change.

Nicest guys in NYC. Small takeout sandwich joint with good coffee & espresso. Great BLT sandwich. Love these guys.

Egg & Cheese on a roll with a chocolate chip cookie, nearly everyday. Welcome to my life. Mapi Café has all you need in life: cheap, orgasmic chocolate chip cookies which make you see the beauty in life — if they were any more amazing, they would be a hallucinogenic. Seriously though, really cheap, pretty good food, and the employees are great — they will get to know you after a while. if only they took credit cards! Drives me insane.

I pass by Mapi ALL the time as I traverse the New School buildings but never really noticed it until last semester when I was stopped by an elderly woman sitting outside the storefront. «This is the best coffee you’ll ever taste!» she hollered at me. I didn’t know if she was drunk on caffeine or alcohol. She tried to trap me in a long-winded conversation about the weather, so I hastily said bye and rushed off to class. Tired of paying $ 2 and $ 3 for my lattes and café au laits, I finally stopped in this morning. The little closet-sized shop was packed; I think the maximum capacity is 7 people. I ordered a café au lait – er, café olé as it is listed on Mapi’s menus, and a croissant with cheese and ham. I wasn’t that happy with the sandwich, but I LOVED the coffee. At $ 1.50, it’s the cheapest au lait(or olé) in the area.

Mapi gets the gold. It’s a hole in the wall, but so is my apartment. So I can relate. Mr. Mapi and his lil buddy manuevering in such tight quarters and working in tandem to get me my coffee, empanada and Mapi sandwich is a magical experience. They slide, duck, reach, bend and contort like a pair of gymnasts not seen since the Soviets. But I highly doubt a Russian could do so well on the uneven bars while making such a delicious lunchtime feast.

I get my coffee, salami & provolone sandwich, red bull, bagel with butter… etc. One should also note that bagels are much better here than the unnamed law school on the 12th st… The same two guys will greet you and will soon remember what you order.

egg, ham and cheese on a croissant with some hot sauce & mayo is so good. It’s great place to grab the food on to go. The food is yummy, and the people who work there are very friendly. They always smile to you and provide great service. A great place to go if you are students in new school/parsons and people who are around union square. :)
