Reservations are a must!

I. Love. This. Place. All of it — the service, the food, the atmosphere, the price even! This was my last NYC lunch after coming into town for a few days. We’d eaten at Jean George’s the night before and frankly had an underwhelming experience. I was hesitant to try another tasting menu after that, but we ended up ordering the lunch tasting here at Marea. Best decision ever! For $ 80, this place blew me away. We started with the bread, which was an assortment of foccacia, whole grains, and white. I had several pieces throughout the meal, but the foccacia was by far my favorite. The tasting began with assaggio di tre, a tasting of 3 crudo — a nice fresh way to start off the meal. The second course was astice, lobster with tomatoes and burrata, which was also served cold, and was very creamy with huge pieces of lobster. The third course was a pasta course, the strozzapreti, and good Lord, this is when I knew I was a secret genius for choosing this place. It was a seafood pasta in a red sauce, and I very rarely order pasta when I go out — but I didn’t know this is what pasta is supposed to taste like! I wanted like 3 bowls of this. It was unreal. For the fourth course, we had capesante which is seared sea scallops with sunchokes. I don’t dig sea scallops too much, but I ate every bite of these. Finally, we ended with a huckleberry panna cotta topped with green apple granita(fancy snow cone). It was good in the weirdest way, although I can’t lie, I do wish there was some chocolate. I just got a glass of prosecco, but my date got the wine pairing. It was a lot of whites, obvi, but he loved them so much he asked for a list of the wines. They took his email address and said they would send them over — and it was in his inbox before we even had dessert! They also handwrote them out on Marea stationary and left them in our check. Hello, here is the service I’ve been looking for all week! I have to say that everyone working there was so lovely without being uppity, and we even had a good laugh with the water lady — she was delightful. Seriously stop reading the reviews and just make a reservation already. You will have no regrets! I wish I could pick this place up and move it to Dallas!
