I was not impressed at all with this place. We went there for brunch on a Sunday and there were multiple problems…1) they ran out of champagne although on their«brunch menu» it is advertised that you get a complimentary mimosa. They offered a screwdriver in place of the mimosa but did not offer a discount on the price. 2) we ordered breakfast potatoes but were served fries instead. The waitress said they were out of potatoes. Again, we were not offered a discount or anything for that matter… Just a simple«we ran out of potatoes so we served you fries instead» 3) the service was slow. We waited about 10 minutes before we were even asked what we wanted to drink… Which would have been mimosa had they not ran out of champagne. The waitress didn’t check on us throughout the meal, mostly bc I’m sure she knew that we weren’t happy. 4) the place was very drafty and cold. 5) and to top it off… There was a hair in the food we were served. Overall terrible experience for what we hoped would be a nice Sunday brunch.

We came here for a New York style lox bagel. I used to read about these in the Babysitters Club as a child. Stacy would always get them when she was in New York. Maxie’s in Times Square had it and it was conveniently located among the rest of our days outings and so we went there. The dish was fine but nothing spectacular. We received a thin bagel, with a good portion of lox, a palm sized pat of cream cheese, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and capers. The meal was good but HIGHLY overpriced at $ 20 plus mandatory 18 percent gratuity and definitely not worth that price. The service was mediocre. The location is in Times Square and thus is great but if if you’re anywhere near the door of the establishment in winter you are bound to be very cold because of the constant foot traffic. Overall, all the dishes on this restaurant’s menu were VERYHIGHLY priced, the service mediocre and from our experience the food average. Meh. I won’t be going back.

I should have known better than eat at a tourist trap in Time’s Square. It was a great location and the view of Times Square was great. The server was nice. The menu looked appetizing especially since we were starved. The table we sat at was small and unbalanced. We ordered the Mac and Cheese with Chorizo bread crumbs but when the plate was served, there were no bread crumbs. when i brought this up to my server, she disappeared to kitchen counter and came back 5 minutes later with a small bowl of bread crumbs. No, she didn’t take the bowl back and get me a new plate with the dish cooked the proper way, she just brought me the bread crumbs to sprinkle on my dish. I was a little shocked. The wings were ok, but definitely NOT worth the hefty pricey they charged. The beer i had was cold and good. My daughter had a salad and the vegetables looked fresh. The food was served hot which was a plus considering it was a cold night. anyway, if you are in the area, Hell’s Kitchen is just a few blocks away. Do your self a favor and walk to 9th Avenue between 46th and 48th and and visit the plethora of good and reasonable eateries. Skip Maxies… Look at my scores. I am generally pretty fair and not many places get a rating this low.

I have to give Maxie’s one star because I gave the Roxy Deli two stars and this place is only half as good, or twice as bad. If it were cheaper it would be just terrible, but at these prices, it is robbery.

I have been to Maxies several times, most recently last week. I have to say I am never disappointed by there food. The service has been a little slow, but its NYC and they are very busy. The good is really good, the staff are very friendly and the prices are affordable. I really enjoy going to Maxies, the food is always fresh and I always feel comfortable there. You will see other reviews of people that did not enjoy there experince, but you cannot please everyone. I would say give it a try, you just might find that you like it there.

I would give Maxie’s zero stars if I could. First off, I came here with my boyfriend to grab a quick bite, and from what it looked like through the window, it seemed like a nice diner in the skirts of Time Square. Wow were we wrong! We walked in, and were«seated»(read: host essentially ran off and threw 2 menus on a table and continued walking away from us). Legit the worst customer service I’ve ever seen within 1 minute of stepping inside the place. We sit down, open our menus, and look at the sandwiches. $ 30 for a buffalo chicken wrap? Gtfo, the obnoxious pricing + the crappy customer service = a walk to McDonalds. All in all, a complete tourist trap– sorry Maxie’s, but I’m from New Yawk, and I know how you people operate, but you can’t fool us all!

I stopped here because I was early for the theater and it was right on the corner. I ordered a coffee drink off the bar menu(which was fine but nothing spectacular) and a «Hungarian apple strudel» — which was frankly not close to anything one would serve or eat in Hungary. It was average at best. I was hoping to have some cheese blintzes since I was in a diner in New York, but it was nearly $ 20 for a plate of three of them. Are you kidding me? The bartender was nice and friendly, which made up for a bit of the rest. Not sure why people go here though.

This was the first place we stopped when we got to NYC. Our room wasn’t ready, it was raining and to be honest, I didn’t have time to Unilocal it on my Blackberry before we went in. I wish I had. $ 3.25 for a CAN of coke, no refills. The potato skins had sliced deli cheese food on them… the square kind that you individually unwrap. The little mexican fried cigar looking things were pretty good off the appetizer section, and the guacamole seemed fresh. This was ALL we got… 2 cokes and 2 appetizers, the bill came to about $ 50. You aren’t paying for good food here, you are paying for location and convenience in Times Square. The wait staff was rude. Not NYC attitude, just rude. If you want to spend that much on a meal in Times Square, go to some place else.

Horrible restaurant. I don’t care if it’s in Times Square and it’s a tourist trap. It sucks. It sucks. It sucks. Yes you, Maxie Delicatessen, you suck maximus time to the maximum. My friend and I were stomach empty, like real bad, at 1 in the afternoon and desperate to find a place to eat — seriously, ANYTHING. We stumbled across Maxie’s, which looked promising. My positive side is too effective these days. I’m too gullible. We both had salads. I’m usually not really one to eat salad. Who wants to eat plain basil anyway? I like cooked food, thus why I’m fat. I had a traditional house salad. This place must really suck for itself to have plain salad and calling it a traditional house salad. I asked another waiter for ranch dressing and according to him, there’s «none». Then I go back to my waiter and he brings me ranch sauce. Makes a difference when you have different waiters, huh? On the other hand, I was envious of my friend’s caesar salad. Extra creamy, cooked chicken, oh, and whatnot. Overall, this place still sucks.

Really delicious(which can also be read as salty), huge portioned New York Style food. Their menu is almost a novel. They have everything and anything you could possibly want. My family of four split two entrees and still couldn’t finish. It was pretty ridiculous. We ordered the Brisket and the Reuben. Their Reuben doesn’t come on bread. No, it comes on a knish(don’t know what it is? Google it. It’s delicious). It was definitely over-indulgent, just look at the pictures. It came with a Pepto Bismol-pink Thousand Island dressing. Oh, and apparently, «Spring Vegetables» means frozen vegetables. Don’t get it. You won’t feel any healthier. Their cheesecake is really good too. Strawberry all the way! Their service is inconsistent. Their bathrooms are disgusting, considering the rest of the place.

This review is based on my one visit. My husband and I were told to stop by here for BREAKFASTONLY while we were visiting the city. We stopped by around 9am in the middle of the week, without reservations, and were immediately seated on the main floor near the back, without question. The restaurant was only about ¼ full. We placed our orders — pancakes, fruit plate, coffee… the usual sort of breakfast things. The food was standard — nothing special, but not certainly not horrible. The fruit plate was massive. I was expecting maybe 6 to 8 ounces of assorted fruit… I was given a POUND. At least. I ate less than half. I found that the prices were pretty standard for New York/Times Square — high, but not like bankrupt-me-high. Overall, when I’m in town again I might or might not go back. If I happen to be standing our front one morning thinking to myself, «Gee I’m hungry.» I might or might not go in. I wouldn’t go out of my way to stop in.

Just because a place is a tourist trap doesn’t mean its food has to suck. I mean it’s completely possible to serve good food for which you feel the need to overcharge just because you can trick a lot of tourists into paying up. But I don’t think Maxie’s is one of those places. Granted, we only came in for dessert and coffee, but the food looks terrible(as observed of the tables around us) and the desserts were unimpressive. My husband’s chocolate fudge cake tasted stale, as did parts of my cheesecake. You could do better at a diner and for much less. Add to this a rushed, apathetic service, and you begin to wonder for what, exactly, you are being overcharged.

On a recent trip to NY wandering through the crowds of Times Square I happened to notice the cheesecake in the window of Maxie’s. It looked really delicious so I dropped in for a slice. I simply got a piece of the plain cheesecake and a glass of ice water. The cheesecake was exactly what you would expect, very good and 1 piece was even too much sharing with my GF. We sat on the first floor next to the windows/doors that open all the way up to let fresh air in and it was nice to watch the excitement as we enjoyed the cheesecake. The service was prompt and everything worked out great. BTW, most people complain its a tourist trap and the prices are high… of course because you are in Times Square. There are plenty of other places to go off the beating path if you want to save a buck and avoid the crowds.

Groan. Times Square. I was visiting a friend for the weekend in New York and he is an avid fan of Times Square and the tourist infused culture. We were looking for a place to eat for lunch and I specifically said«Anywhere but Times Square». Unfortunately thats where we ended up. Driven by hunger I gave up and said«Let’s go anywhere». then Maxie’s caught my eye. Something that wasn’t a T.G.I.Friday’s or an Applebee’s, Let’s do this. The place is warm and inviting but clearly a tourist-driven restaurant disguised as a homey café. Okay number 1, everything is ridiculously expensive. I don’t think anything was under $ 10 except for a few appetizers and the drinks. Number 2: portions are HUGE, way too huge! I got a chicken parm sandwhich with fries & I had to eat it like a pizza it was literally as big as my head and the chicken cutlet was the size of a steak. Also it cost $ 22. WHATISTHAT?! The check for two people ended up being $ 63! Oh my gosh I don’t think I’ve ever been so angry. DON’T go here. Food is okay. Didn’t get to try dessert. Don’t go here.

If we hadn’t been so exhausted from flying all night to get to NYC we would have never gone to this overpriced, sub-par restaurant. Got into the city at 7am and I was freezing … I mean FREEZING cold and hungry. I saw this place and was desperate. We had 2 omelets and coffee and our bill was outrageous — even for NYC! Something like $ 40 … highway robbery! If you do decide to go against everyone’s Unilocaling advice and eat at this restaurant — do not, I repeat, DONOT order the pastrami omelet, EW! Don’t eat in Times Square, tourist trap(as expected)

Maxie’s Delicatessen = Ben Ash Delicatessen Same menu, same AWFUL, overpriced food This place is a tourist trap! They give you a TON of food that tastes like CRAP! You’d be better off getting a value meal from McDonald’s. Save your money… seriously. It’s not worth it.

Maxie’s delivered the quintessential New York Deli experience, complete with HUGE deli sandwich and impeccable New York Cheesecake. On a recent adventure in New York City, my friend and I shared a deli turkey sandwich on rye(it was ginormous) and a piece of Heath Toffee Cheesecake. The portions were out of control, more than enough for both of us to share and remain full. It is a really large restaurant, complete with two floors. The restrooms were nice and clean, and the service was attentive and friendly. The menu had PLENTY of options, definitely enough choices for the pickiest of diners. The sandwiches were a little high in price, but again, were very satisfying. We missed the theatre crowd, so finding a table wasn’t a hassle. I would definitely recommend Maxie’s to anyone who wants an authentic New York experience.

Absolutes No GO! Kein Problem damit!
