Located across from a park. When walking in there were tons of kids in here probably taking a break from playing at the park and grabbing a bite. The prices are cheap here and everything tasted homemade. The dumplings are very filling, delicious and tasted fresh.

This place feels typically Chinese. Even the prices are Chinese like ;-). We ordered plenty of different dumplings, soups and pancakes. And it was just as tasty as in China itself. Amazing food!!! And surprisingly cheap :)

This is the place to go when you just want a cheap, delicious bite of greasy goodness! I usually get the scallion pancake, fried scallion cake, fried taro cake, and pan fried bun. I LOVEALLOFTHEM! They are just a perfect salty snack for those days when I feel like eating fried food. They are all so oily, but they are so good that the oiliness doesn’t matter anymore. The fried scallion cake(round salty donut things with scallions in them) and fried taro cake usually sell out by afternoon so go early to get them!

Whenever I go to this place I always get the peanut butter noodle & dumplings. Nothing beats that less than $ 5 food that makes you so full. That hot sauce & soysauce with ginger taste amazing! They have open kitchen so you’ll see how clean it is while they make your order. Its DELICIOUS&AFFORDABLE!

the price value is worth a deal… the food is a hit or miss. scallion pancake was lack luster with barely any flavor due to lack of scallion actually in the pancake. fish ball noodle soup was bland and only the fish ball itself had any flavor. again, for the value it will fill your tummy.

What r those. The first thing I say when I see the menu. What horrible foods to chose from. I ended up ordering the dumpling noodle soup. The dumpling were exceptional but the noodles and soup were so bland. Horrible. And, the hot and sour soup tastes like cold and sweet soup. This place is simply disgusting

These may very well be the best dumplings(for the value, up to this point in my search for the best dumplings anyway) that I’ve had the opportunity to try in the south eastern portion of Chinatown. As it stands, $ 1.50 gets you five sizable dumplings; though there are some cheaper options in the area($ 1-$ 1.25 for five, if you look hard enough, which I have), quality and taste are superior here. How are they superior? Well, consistently sized portions as opposed to sporadically smaller or bigger dumplings in the same serving is much appreciated; also, a well developed crispy skin seems to be accomplished regularly(the past few times I’ve been here); juicy filling, almost soup dumpling-esque; and the accouterments found on the tables to invariably«customize» your order are legit and not watered down(chili oil and garlicky soy sauce adds just a little bit of extra). Though pan fried pork and chive dumplings are the #1 menu item(it really is the firstly listed item on the menu), the rest of the menu is quite sizable; from a glance, it looks as if no one item breaks past the $ 10 price range, which is great if you’re looking for cheap lunch options. I’ve had the opportunity to try the Fuzhou wonton soup and the stir noodles in addition to the dumplings. Both also super solid selections, and quite tasty. The former is loaded with tiny little ribbens of wonton skins over a small morsel of meat, pretty fun to eat actually… definitely going to revisit this at one point. The«stir noodles» are a huge delicious mess. Basically nooldes in some peanut sauce… wear a bib, unless you hate the shirt you’re wearing(sorry shirt!). All in all, this place is worth the trip from FiDi for a cheap, quick, and tasty lunch. You bet your sweet @ss that I’ll be back here.

I love their thin skin and juicy meat dumplings, veggie buns, guo bian, Dan Yan noodle soup, and also pork/bamboo pancake… Can’t wait to try other items on the menu. Also this place is very clean and friendly customer service :)

Excellent fried dumplings and we loved the dumpling noodle soup(with the basic«noodle»). Bare bones place to eat but the food is great and the price is right!

I’m pretty sure I’ll never know the internal politics behind the comings and goings of restaurants in Chinatown. Or if the chefs change. Or if a place gets a lot of buzz and the quality decreases… But I know good dumplings when I have them. And these were pretty good. And compared to a lot of budget dumpling houses, the restaurant was pretty nice. Clean, A/C, TV. Even non-dumpling items like the pork bun and scallion pancake were good. I’ll come back.

Delicious dumplings in soup. I went on a walk during lunchtime from the Wall Street area and passed this little gem. In a sea of B and C ratings, their A rating caught my attention. I tried my luck with the pork and chive dumplings in soup and was not disappointed. It comes with 8 and I ate every single last one.

Saw the good reviews and decided to try a couple of items. 1) the fried dumplings were tasty and at $ 1.50 for 5, you can’t go wrong 2) fried scallion pancakes, tasty but it’s a little thicker than I like but still good Will try other items the next time

Quite possibly some of the best boiled dumplings in NY! The first time I went to Mei Yu I tried the dumpling(jiaozi) paired with egg noodles soup. The dumpling filling has great flavor and consistency while the soup broth was clean. I finished all of it, and I’m not even a soup fan. The fried dumplings and scallion pancake are also very tasty. I will definitely keep this place in regular rotation when in Chinatown as everything is very fresh. Mei Yu draws a lot of locals: elderly folk, students, and families. The place is quite spacious, has an open kitchen, and is well maintained. They speak Mandarin, Fujianese, Cantonese, and some English.

This is one of those hidden places that has the really good dumplings. The inside is nothing fancy but it’s a good place to grab dumplings with your friends.

My family’s favorite dumpling restaurant. Dumplings are seasoned extremely well and taste delicious. Surprisingly, the quality of the dumplings have improved since the last time I ate it. How is the dumplings great? The fried dumplings are properly fried so that they have a crispy bottom to each dumpling. The dumplings are made very sturdy and don’t break down in the cooking process. Great place in which I usually stop by for a quick meal with myself.

Atmosphere — A decent sized Chinatown restaurant with seating and tables. Looked relatively clean for what it was. Decided to try while passing by. I think it was just after lunch and seemed quiet with a few patrons seated. Dumplings — I got the steamed veggie dumplings, and scallion pancakes. The dumplings were pretty good. Not overly salty, and the filling to dough ratio was perfect for me. Just a bit more dough than filling. It was also super chewy-glutinous-goodness. The filling wasn’t overly flavorful, but worked well with the sauce given. The filling did look fresh and green. There were 8 to an order, at $ 2.50 I believe. These were smaller than your«normal» Chinese dumplings, but not by much. Not a bad thing, just wanted to point it out. 2 orders filled me good. The scallion pancake was great, greasy and tasty. These aren’t the fluffy kind, they’re more flat and dense. Moneys — I think it was $ 6.50 for the 16 dumplings and a pancake. Which was a great price. Overall — I’ll be back for great veggie dumplings. Although not ‘amazing!’ dumplings, I think they’re one of the best I’ve had in Chinatown so far(I’m picky). If anyone has suggestions for veggie dumplings, let me know! They also have your normal Chinese fare, but have yet to try them out.

I rate restaurants by looking at what they aim to achieve. If you’re looking for a satisfying meal on the cheap with a place to sit down, this place is it. 5.50 for pan fried pork buns, dumplings, and their peanuty-saucy stir noodles. If you’re not a big eater, that’s enough for two. You can’t beat that with a stick.

As a result of Hurricane Sandy, my whole neighborhood was virtually shut down, my apartment building was without electricity or heat or water for a couple of weeks, and a few of my friends were made homeless. Even though I couldn’t shower or shave or even go to the bathroom, and even though I had to babysit my friend’s lunatic dog – who drives me absolutely crazy – for a few weeks, the thing which hit me hardest was the discovery that Sweet Spring Restaurant had closed! Miserably filthy and stir-crazy, the light at the end of the tunnel was that we could walk to Chinatown and get some amazing Chinese Food with our little remaining cash. Not even $ 10 in bills and coins, we were assured at least two or three soul-saving meals — at the end of the day, it was very comforting. All the ATMs were broken, all the grocery stores were closed, and the sidewalks were so disgusting that I basically had to carry my 50 pound puppy around lower Manhattan rather than risk him getting sick from all the stinky pollution and rotting rat corpses. But we still had hope. Crunchy, succulent, moist, tender, savory, spicy dumplings & buns! And we were flabbergasted to see that it was shuttered. I screamed. He cried. There was a sign on the outside, but neither of us speak or read any Chinese, so we literally went up and down the street looking for somebody that could translate it for us. Thankfully, a very kind elderly lady revealed to us that it said the vegetable cart which is normally in this location moved somewhere down the street, but there was no information whatsoever about any possible future relocation. Day after day, week after week, we walked back and forth, hoping for any signs of life. Although there was a FORRENT sign, we refused to give up. Better to live in denial than have nothing to live for, right? Anyway, we eventually noticed a store-front a few doors down that had Sunshine in its title, and it seemed to be new, but there was no menu, and it never seemed to be open whenever we walked by. But, persistence… I am incorrigible… When I’ve got my mind set on something, the sky is more likely to fall than I am to change my tune. And I take my dumplings very seriously, let’s just say… So, a few weeks ago, the stars aligned, and it turns out that Mei Yu Spring is the renewed reborn rehabilitated reconstructed rejuvenated Sweet Spring Restaurant! As good as ever, definitely. Better than ever, maybe. But I finally have my favorite dumplings back, and I couldn’t be happier. I obviously love it here, and so should you.

So glad to see Sweet Spring restaurant has moved to such nice new digs down the street. Much easier to sit in than before, but I think they’re still getting their groove. Hopefully eventually the dumplings and pork buns will be as good as the old place — I’m sure they will!
