Mélange Salon

I just had my hair colored by Olga, she really knows what she’s doing. I was nervous going to a new salon after so many years of having my hair colored by another salon but she creates a natural color and made me feel so at ease. I am very happy with her professional service and her hospitality. Olga made me feel at home. I’m looking forward to continuing my color with her.

Joe was recommended to me through a friend who works at the salon. I had been putting off going to a new colorist as I had been getting a mass discount at a salon downtown who had done my hair for a magazine interview (I am an actor).
After two too many times of my hair being colored with an orange or gasp purple tint I had enough and went with my friend Teresa’s suggestion.
Joe is really, really good. On the very first try my hair was blonde. A natural blonde. No purple tint, no orange tint, just blonde. I was a blonde as a kid and as I got older it seems to have gotten darker. my aim is to be as close to the original as possible and Joe get me as close as I’ve come.
I might like to go to a darker blonde but I trust that Joe will be able to do it as he really listens and seems to straight away know what to do. And thankfully he writes your formula down. I am sorry to say my last salon although they would say they wrote it down I know they didn’t (the hair was a different hue every time I came out!).
So I say this– as a blonde I recommend Joe to blondes assuming you don’t want the orangey tint that seems to be popular. ALTHOUGH I bet if that’s what you wanted he could achieve that too.
He is great. Five stars!

Joe has been my hair stylist for about 20 years now and he has just got to be one of the best in the city. I travel in from NJ specifically to get my haircut from him because I always leave that salon looking and feeling like a superstar. The salon originated in an exclusive hotel spa so the entire salon staff are trained and dedicated to precision and holistically treating their customers to not only look their best but leave feeling their best. The way they treat their customers is a wonderful experience.

Rosemary is the best hair colorist ever. I get a single process color that turns my gray into blond streaks. She is amazing.

Mélange is an excellent salon. I have been a customer there for many years. Rosemary does a great job with my color and Nonna does a great job on the cut and blow dry.

I had my hair colored several times by someone I knew through work, and my hair turned a dark, flat black (it’s usually a medium-​dark brown). It was AWFUL. Someone sent me to Olga for a color correction. She is AMAZING. She is professional, kind and generous, and did an incredible job. I felt like I got my hair back, and learned a lot in the process. I will never go cheap again.
The four stars is for the price. I have to go once a month for a touch-​up, and $ 100 plus tip is steep for an inch of single-​process color. But I owe her my loyalty for what she did for me!

my friends and i have been coming here (for business reasons), since tim and kazu were each versions 1.0. since the installation of the new OS, things are largely the same and still amazing. tim has a great new haircut, the same passionate attitude and great frameless glasses. his scissor skills are impeccable. he hasnt lost a step.
what’s changed between the old roy michaels and the new mélange? the answer is not much. i came in on a friday with a small bottle of grey goose (brown bagged), a bottle of lemonade vitamin water to mix it with, and no underwear. things were really good as i slammed down my first cocktail and mixed my next like a homeless chemist. things only got better. seeing tim and the gang again really brought back memories of doing things. i’m excited to experience mélange again… for the first time. youre gonna love the way you look. im lovin’ it.

If you want thermal reconditioning or Japanese straightening, Its not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Tim is the absolute best. full stop. My hair is wash and wear, I get compliments every single day.

It’s a very simple equation: Rosemary for color + Roy for cuts and blowouts=Fantastic

got a blowout with tim and it was awesome! the place is very well decorated and maintained. it felt really clean (which i love) and the staff was extremely friendly. tim was a riot and i had such a blast talking to him! he also gave really great tips on how to take care of my hair which i didn’t get any at many other salons. afterwards i spoke to elsa, a colorist for the salon, and she gave me some honest advice about hair color. i didn’t feel like i was trying to be sold anything which is my biggest pet peeve at any store, salon, etc.
would definitely love to come back here and will for sure look into making an investment for some coloring.

I have been coming here for at least 12 years, and will continue to do so faithfully. My colorist is Elsa and For my Haircuts and Blow Dry, I go to Tim. Everyone is amazing here! I highly recommend this Salon.

Finally found my blow out spot in Manhattan :) quick and easy ! In and out. Been here a few times now and they always take care of me and any friends I bring in ! I highly recommend this spot for a blow out

I have to change my review to 3 stars because of the way my hair ended up growing out. Although it looked great when I left the salon, when I tried recreating the look at home, it didn’t look nearly as good. It also ended up growing out in a way that was pretty shapeless. To me, the mark of a great haircut is how it grows out and this just didn’t pass that test. I still think everyone at the salon was super nice, but I probably won’t be returning as I thought I would.

I went here today for a haircut. We arrived and the front desk was very hospitable. We barely waited before I had my consultation. I wanted to cut my hair pretty drastically. My hair (was) pretty long– it fell a few inches above my waist. I wanted my hair to be a few inches below my shoulder with layers. I showed him some photos and he showed me how much he was going to cut. My hair was washed and I loved the shampoo and conditioner so much I bought it! My hair stylist was Daniel. He payed attention to detail but he also cut my hair in a diligent matter. The only thing that was upsetting was that after my hair was cut, he made me wait 10 minutes so he could help another client. I would have been more upset but I was so happy with my hair that it didn’t bother me. At the end my hair looked so good! Daniel understood exactly what I wanted and I’m so happy! Definitely reccomend!

I bought a Unilocal coupon for Mélange, wanting a place near work for a quick trim and relayering. They did a great job! Very fast and everyone was incredibly nice.
I have several problems, though. The entrance to the salon is confusing (it’s on the 2^nd floor of the building, not well-​marked). I also think it was a bit of a rip-​off. I thought the $ 100 coupon I bought would more than cover the haircut, a simple trim (I mean, hey, this isn’t the John Varvatos salon, but it’s nice enough). My hair cut costs $ 160. I thought that was a little steep for the services offered.

Tim is awesome! After the initial cut, I wasn’t extremely satisfied but he immediately took me for another appointment and re-​cut the whole look! I absolutely love the way he cut my hair! If you want a professional cut, go to Tim. He’s the best. Also they have great Unilocal discounts for newcomers. I took a chance and I couldn’t be happier.

Had a great experience seeing Tim for my first time. Hilarious to chat with, and was conscious of how I wanted my hair to be trimmed without reducing much length, which I can totally appreciate. Definitely played it safe regarding length to make sure I was happy with the results. Overall, a really great experience and he taught me a LOT about the different ways I can work with my hair. Very informed, very patient, very funny, and he was able to work with my schedule pretty last minute on a Friday afternoon.

Just moved to NYC and so happy I have found my go to hair salon! Tim’s attention to detail and cut was beyond wonderful. Dawn did my color and blended my blonde highlights perfectly. They are also the friendliest duo around. can’t wait to go back!

I have been Seeing Tim for 7 years now for his precision in thermal reconditioning (Japanese straightening), a great cut and an overall wonderful experience. He is very careful with the TR process, and takes pride in his work.
In terms of cuts, I have very long hair and he is always careful not to cut too much :) while giving me the look I desire. I highly recommend his as a stylist for whatever your needs are; Plus he’s a pleasure to be around, so that does not hurt :)
The salon is very comfortable, the staff is friendly and I have nothing but positive things to say.
