Carli did my highlights and she was awesome! She really was attentive to what I wanted for my blonde highlights and took her time to carefully make sure they looked great. I will be returning! The salon is very cute and unique with a good selection of products as well.

I was very excited when i heard about wonderland and was pleasantly surprised by the reviews on Unilocal.It saddens me to write that my experience at the salon was sub-​par at best.
My stylist was Laura and i went in for a haircut. Going in i wanted to make sure that i shared my vision of the haircut to the best of my ability. I also brought in a picture of the haircut that i wanted — it required layering my hair. She sounded confident.
she spent about ten minutes on the actual cut with my hair wet and mentioned that she was going to do the finishing touches when my hair was dry. Upon drying and spending another 3 mintues cutting my hair it was obvious that all she did was trim my ahir by an inch and cut my bangs shorter.
It was a sloppy job with chunky finishes to my hair. The bangs were cut carelessly and when i asked for her to perhaps layer in more to give it texture and look like the picture — she became defensive and told me that she did not understand my vision for the haircut — despite the picture presented. She then told me that i was clinging on to the vision of my picture too hard.
Bottom line: Horrible experience, bad haircut which needed fixing by a different sytlist at a different salon an hour later.

I absolutely love coming to Wonderland. Great atmosphere, talented stylists, top of the line products… And they give you champagne too Christopher keeps my platinum looking FRESSSSHHH! Check it out — you won’t regret it!

After a long relationship my regular stylist she and I needed to break up. Our hair relationship became too stale. I saw in a magazine a cut I liked from Wonderland and decided to give them a try. They paired me with Chris and voila! I’ve met the perfect «match!» My cut is much more youthful and my color pops. He took his time, gave me wine, and the shampoo came with a shoulder rub. Yes, I’m in Wonderland and very satisfied!

A well deserved 5 star for this salon. My first experience there was fantastic! I will definitely be going back again… Nutshell review: I highly recommend Christopher for natural blonde highlights!
Expanded review: The moment I stepped through the doors I was greeted so very warmly (and it was genuine… anyone reading this surely knows the pretentiousness that can sometime permeate higher end NYC salons!) Christopher was my hair stylist and I could not have been in better hands. He really listened to me when I explained my hair’s history and what I was looking for, and then he was *extremely* focused and sure-​handed throughout my entire 3 hour full head of blonde highlights session. Having sat in enough chairs at various salons all over the city, I know when someone is paying close attention to detail and taking pride in their own work. He’s a gem. My hair looks FANTASTIC. He chose the perfect blonde to compliment my skin tone. His assistant, Sonia, was lovely as well and jumped in for the last step – time sensitive toning! And lastly, there was another stylist (I think), a sweet red-​headed woman who was attentive to my beverage needs even though I was not her client. This salon seems to have a great team all around. Even the check-​out boys were smiling and laughing as I left. Looking forward to my next visit!

I recently went back to Wonderland and had a haircut with Carli. Never in my life have I received so many glowing compliments about my hair! She’s extremely talented and was able to execute a flawless haircut that holds its shape and is very easy to style. Needless to say, I found my new stylist!

What a great group of people and talent. One person is nicer than the next and everyone is beyond talented. I am only sorry I have not gone there before now. Thank you Ryan & Ben you guys rock!

Melissa is the best! I have very light blonde hair and she has always made it look bright and natural! She is a perfectionist with her highlights and her cuts and it shows in how many compliments I get from friends and strangers on my color and cut :) Seriously she’s amazing and so fun to chat with while she pampers you.
I definitely recommend this salon and Melissa specifically!

There are mermaid barbies and party streamers hanging from the ceiling, AND they do a great blowout. Need I say more?

Being a bleach & tone can be real tough – it’s a service I’ve found is really hard to nail, matching existing color, evening out unwanted tones. I’ve had it all! I came to Wonderland, saw Melissa and I’m in love!!! Melissa was very attentive to not only my needs, continually asking how I was doing (being an excellent host), but what my hair needed. She was very meticulous with her color distribution, and took the time to follow up on her desire
to even out my previously bleached hair. And I’m VERY appreciative. My color is fabulous and seamless and I’m happy as can be :) Amazing! And she’s an excellent, genuine conversationalist.
Everyone at Wonderland was great – it proved to be a cool, relaxed, creative collective-​like atmosphere. I definitely felt right at home.

If you’re getting a cut and/​or color I seriously recommend Laura. She’s so knowledgable about what she’s doing and really listens to what you want. I went to her yesterday and I’ve never been so in love with the result!

Wouldn’t go back. My stylist barely spoke to me the whole time, the salon was quiet (no music playing) and my hair is visibly two different lengths. I paid $ 125 for the cut.

First, let me explain that I am taking an international flight in less than 24 hours and am crazy busy, but I had to make time for this review.
Wonderland is a fantastic, fantastic salon with incredibly gifted people working there. I’ve had my highlights most recently (yesterday) with Ryan and he did the best job of any stylist to which I have ever been. Ever. Money is no object when it comes to hair for me and I’ve been West Coast/L.A. and in Manhattan uptown, downtown and midtown etc., I’ve been to posh Garren and hipster Ion etc. I have been lucky and always had talented stylists, but Ryan has defined excellence for me. That is, I didn’t know my hair could look this good. He’s gifted. Also, the staff at Wonderland is just outstanding. Though it does have that ‘hip’ vibe – and is undoubtedly so – there is absolutely no affectation, no snobbery in the staff, either. I’ve found that most places like to cultivate a certain attitude (much like Chelsea art galleries) and make it a point to be aloof, but the staff here realizes that they can have the latest Vogue Italia for China issue and the Oribe etc., but they don’t need to be anything but kind and really down-​to-​earth. And that’s not because they are naïve nor is it because their clients don’t know any better. There’s a reason this is an industry/​model favorite. In fact, I should say that across the board, from stylists – I’ve seen Christopher as well as Ryan and he’s also very talented if I hadn’t been pressed for time, I would have booked service with him yesterday as well – to front desk to shampoo service, the staff here are funny, educated, witty and have a cultural knowledge and sophistication that outstrips the average self-​congratulatory reader of the New Yorker.
Finally, the décor, I have to say is fun, tongue-​in-​cheek, Warholian redux, but in pure fun – and in my experience (which, with contemporary art and the Chelsea/​Miami scene is extensive)0– the ones that are able to be playful and creative are the best. There’s substance here. And as you gaze sit in the shampoo area, cordoned off with shiny blue and silver streamer/​tinselesque material, and gaze up at the crazy ivory glitter glazed strands that have been hung from the ceiling amidst array of plastic bubbles and pink-​haired Barbies gone mermaid and look at the lighting effect on the ceiling, you feel, for a moment, under the sea. And always in good hands. Magical, really. And I love the Vitra and Kartel touches. Congrats to all at Wonderland and thank you!

Michael is an artist. His salon is gorgeous and he also has a variety of other beauty products that are high quality and well chosen. He really knows his stuff… and he is a good person!!!

I come here for Carli — she is the best! She does amazing balayage and it always looks so natural and grows out so nicely that I don’t have to come back for months. I also cone to her for cuts — she recently chopped my long hair to a bob and I am still loving it. She gives great blowouts and she also did the hair for my wedding last month. She gave me an awesome braided updo and did three of my bridesmaids too. And on top of all that she is a great person and I really could not recommend her more!

Carli Van Voorhis has been cutting my hair for a few months now and she is an amazing stylist.
I met her in the hair salon she used to work in previously and when she told she was going to Wonderland Beauty Parlor I decided to follow her without hesitation.
Carli is an extremely talented hair stylist! She always asks what I want, listens carefully and I love the way she understands me. She knows exactly how to take care of my style needs and it turns out great every time.
Carli is a truly professional and all around wonderful person. If you try her, you will be set with a stylist for a very long time!

I came for Carli! She’s awesome so I followed her to this salon. She always listens to what I want to do with my hair and her blow outs are so so good. The place is cute and all the beauty products in the front that you can test out are great. Definitely recommend :)

I go here for Carli, who consistently gives me the best haircuts I’ve ever had in my life. I’m a guy. I prefer salons to barbers because why not. I have pretty frizzy/​curly hair. The cuts she gives me are so good. I get lots of compliments on the haircuts — even a week or so after the cut people are often like «damn, nice hair cut.» I am pretty sure I have more friends because of these cuts. No joke. They grow out really well, which is awesome. If you want, she can give very tight fades. She is just as good with clippers as with scissors. Just extremely versatile and understands my hair and knows how to make it look rad. Also she’s an all around cool person. We have great chats. It’s great getting a haircut from someone you really like and look forward to seeing.

I can totally understand when a stylist is busy and juggling clients and I empathize with lazy assistants, but unfortunately this was the case here. Also throw on the fact I booked a balayage and the stylist ignored that and went ahead with foils. How about you ask me if I wanted a balayage since I booked a balayage? I think the color came out fine… four hours later. It’s the worst to be held hostage by your hair.
This is definitely karma for cheating on my amazing but pricey stylist. I will return to him with face in palm.

Found out about this place from Beautified when I was looking for a lunchtime manicure.
I came in and was warmly greeted and offered something to drink. Since I’m fancy, I decided to go with the champagne and I patiently sipped and waited for my manicurist.
Mayumi greeted me and brought me to her station. I was afraid that the design that I wanted would be too difficult for her to execute, but she knew exactly what I was going for after looking at my Pinterest board. She did an awesome job and I didn’t walk out of there until it looked perfect. She also offered another glass of bubbly which I happily accepted.
Overall, a great experience. As I tipsily walked back to work, I admired my fresh nails the entire time.

I haven’t been to a hair salon since I was nine years old due to a bad experience. I decided that it was time to finally get my hair cut by a professional, and found a voucher for a haircut on Gilt City. Was not disappointed at all! I had my hair cut and styled by Laura, who is super nice and did exactly what I wanted. The products they use smell so great. The salon isn’t super big and is rather trendy, but it is Meatpacking so that’s to be expected. The receptionists were so friendly. I will definitely be back.

I went to Wonderland for the first time yesterday and it was a wonder-​ful!
I went because my amazing, genius colorist and stylist of 9 years Ryan Hill joined them recently.
To be honest I was worried about going to a hair salon in the Meatpacking District. I am a native New Yorker and tend to avoid that area and assume the businesses there are loud and obnoxious. Well you walk in from a busy street to a beautifully decorated, extremely enjoyable sanctuary. You would never know you are in such a busy area because the salon itself is quiet, extremely well organized and spacious enough to feel relaxing.
I love the décor which is fun, colorful and beautiful but not so «fun» as to be totally kitchsy.
Everyone who worked there from the front desk to the assistants were warm and lovely. You would think there would be «attitude» at a high profile salon in this area but there was none at all. I was made to feel immediately welcome and everyone was gracious.
NOW to part I both love and resent about Wonderland: its amazing collection of hard-​to-​find makeup brands, hair products, perfume and accessories. I could have spent an hour in there just browsing and shopping. I had to restrain myself since I can go nuts with beauty products but I did buy a gorgeous nail polish by a brand that I had not seen anywhere else. They carry hard-​to-​find brands such as Lipstick Queen, Rodin, and even a special gorgeous red lipstick by Helmut Newton that I had never seen before. That will be for my next trip.
Ryan is the reason I went to Wonderland: I would follow him anywhere including out of state. He is an exceptionally gifted, patient, beautiful hair colorist. He took me from almost back hair to a beautiful NEVER EVER YELLOW OR BRASSY champagne blonde slowly and beautifully. I get compliments on my hair color all the time and I have to give him credit. As my hair gets whiter (ugh) he has gradually lightened it all over making sure never to do too much at once so as to not damage my hair or render it in any way brassy. He listens but will also tell you if a certain haircut will not work on your hair (many stylists don’t) or exactly how much work it will be to maintain if that’s the case. He is also just a lovely, gentle, funny and artistic person who makes you feel good.
So even though Ryan is the reason I went and will continue to go to Wonderland I was extremely delighted with the salon, the staff, the overall experience and would get other services there such and go back to shop even if I am not getting a cut or color!

I found out about this salon from a post on the best places to get a bang trim on the website Refinery29. I met with Laura and she was friendly, professional and did a great job trimming and shaping my bangs. I love them! I’ll definitely be back for future bang and full head trims.

I absolutely love Gabriel. He’s new to Wonderland but, I’ve been with him for years at another salon. I enjoy the chic-​ness of this salon and overall ambiance. It’s classy but not snooty. Gabriel is the best, no one does blonde better than him and highlights are flawless!

I followed my stylist Gabriel from another salon and was very happy with the new atmosphere at Wonderland. Gabriel is amazing! His hands are magic!!! I will never let anyone but Gabriel cut, color and style my hair. The salon is great! Receptionist are super friendly. I love being welcomed with a glass of champagne. The décor is fun with good lighting and a relaxed atmosphere. I look forward to my next appointment.

Gabriel and I are going on 4 years and strong as ever — I followed him from his old salon, and the latest cut he gave me since joining Wonderland is the most AMAZING cut of my life! I’m so happy, and I get so many compliments on my hair from friends, neighbors, strangers and random stylists I meet.
I have been wanting to go short for a while now, and suggested it to Gabriel before my appointment — and he went out of his way to find a great pic of a cut he thought would work, modified it slightly to make it his own and make me look gorg! I was nervous — after all, I was chopping off at least 6 – 8 inches from my shoulder length hair — but Gabriel’s energy, creativity and excitement made me feel so at ease throughout the cut, and like a babe afterwards.
Check out my pictures for the cut if you need proof, and if you need even more, consider this: I don’t even live in NYC anymore, and I fly in every few months so he can cut my hair. His cuts are so great that they grow out beautifully even though I can’t see him as frequently as I once did. And when I did have to cheat on him once — it was winter and I needed a pick me up — he was nothing but gracious about the cut I got and complimented my new stylist’s work. I think that says so much about Gabriel as a person and as a professional.

PS My hair now air dries like I got it did. I haven’t used a blow dryer since the cut — just a little salt/​oil spray. Jackpot!

I have been with Gabriel Rios for years, he is a master with hair! He always gives me no-​hassle, fun and easy haircut that stays amazing as it grows out. I like a shag with an edge, rock and roll with strength and femininity. He’s also amazing with color and highlights! People compliment me constantly on my hair. I am always so stoked with the way it ends up.
I was so happy to hear he was working at such a fabulous place! Wonderland is open and airy and a nice break from my running around the city. Even though it’s in the Meatpacking District, it’s not pretentious. It’s a stylish, high quality salon and everyone there is friendly and helpful.

I got my hair cut three times in three days. The first time was a disaster. The second was an attempt to fix the disaster – didn’t work. The third was Haley, at Michael Angelo’s Wonderland, and it was a perfect rescue. I just needed someone who understands hair to look at what had happened and my hair type and facial structure, to hear my loosely-​formed expectations and desires, and to tell me what would look best and what would or wouldn’t work. And in that respect, Haley really delivered. She gave me great ideas about different approaches we could take, and is technically very skilled. On top of that, she’s extremely friendly and thoughtful, and it felt like I was getting my hair cut by a (very talented) friend. After my hair ordeal, it was a relief to find someone like her.
The overall experience at Michael Angelo’s Wonderland was also very pleasant – helpful and attentive staff – and I’m about to book my next appointment there too.

I think I may have found my new hair stylist! I’ve been living in NYC for almost 5 years and have yet to find a hair stylist that I’ve felt compelled to go back to. I found this salon via Lifebooker and I had a cut and partial highlights scheduled with Siobhan, who did a fantastic job with my hair! Both the cut and color were exactly what I wanted. Siobhan was also very helpful in terms of suggesting hair products and styling tips based on my preferences.
The salon itself had a fun décor and vibe — lucite ghost style chairs, mermaid barbies hanging from the ceiling, and lots of beauty and hair products for sale.
One minor thing that I noticed though — one of the assistants didn’t seem happy to be there at all. For example, as one of the assistants washed my hair, she asked the other (unhappy) assistant if she has time to help her with something. The unhappy assistant looked slightly annoyed and said no, even though she was just standing there and continued to just stand there. Don’t know what that was about, but I thought it added a little bit of a negative energy to the place.
Even with the Lifebooker deal, I still ended up spending a bit more than I usually would for my cut and color. But overall I’m pretty happy with my hair, so I feel like it is money well spent!

I’ve been to wonderland a couple years before and had a great experience with Anastasia whom I had gotten a hair cut from. She was very easy to talk to and made me feel comfortable and I felt gorgeous when I left the salon. I recently came back and had made an appointment using Lifebooker. It was a very pleasant experience when I called and spoke to the receptionist ahead of my appointment, they were very accommodating and had great customer service.
Upon my arrival I was quickly greeted, seated, offered a drink, and Christopher came out and started my coloring process. I had a bad highlight from another salon I had visited. So I was a bit worried and wanted to be clear with the color I wanted. Christopher was amazing and chose a beautiful color, he was very meticulous and more thorough than any other colorist I’ve had before. I’m a quiet person so I was happy not to have any forced conversations.
After he was complete with the highlights, I was helped by an assistant who washed my hair. I wasn’t very pleased with her skills. It wasn’t the most pleasant hair wash I’ve received, it was a bit rough and not very comfortable. When she was done washing my hair she dried my hair by rubbing it roughly with a towel which most stylists knows is a basic no no. I had my hair washed by a guy here before and he was amazing, so I was really disappointed with that process.
I was then taken to cut my hair with Haley, whom I read great reviews for. She was very skilled with her cut and did everything I told her I wanted and I was very pleased with the cut.
I was then taken back to the same assistant to tone my hair, and she had me sit up from the sink part way through the process while she squirted the product through a squeeze bottle. The product was dripping everywhere and I had a few stains on the sleeve of my shirt by the time it was over. I sat and waited for a while for the toning process.
After that she came back rinsed my hair and started my blow out. I would’ve preferred for Haley to have completed my hair since I booked her for the cut & style and I’m a stickler about my blow out since my hair has a crazy texture. She did a pretty decent job and it turned out alright. Haley came back and placed the finishing touches and I was on my way.
Overall, I was really happy with how my hair turned out. It was what I wanted and looked so much better than when I came in. I do think the assistant needs some more experience. Its a nice salon, so I would’ve like to have the same great quality through out my service. I will come back again because I love Christopher’s highlights he gave me, I will probably book him for everything next time. Hopefully their assistant will have improved by then.

Haley is an angel sent from heaven! I habitually wait too long to cut my long, fine hair to the point of looking like a homeless hippie. Haley miraculously makes it healthy again like it’s never been mistreated and she never ever takes too much off. She always has great product recommendations but doesn’t try to over sell if I’m not interested.
I’ve also done color with Christopher and he is wonderful! I am terrible at maintaining color and Christopher gave me great semi permanent color that lasted but washed out before it turned into roots.
Both stylists really listen to you and give you high quality hair cuts/​color that is unique to you. They just get it.
The salon itself is truly a wonderland! We’re talking pink haired mermaid barbies hanging from the ceiling in bubbles. It’s the perfect mix of high end, eclectic, fun, and totally judgment free. None of the snobbery or rude you find at a lot of NYC salons. A really enjoyable and comfortable salon experience and priced really well for such high quality. As good, if not better, not to mention a hell of a lot more fun, than any upper east side salon.
