My husband caught an intestinal bug. Without knowing what it was, he gave him two prescriptions for it. As it turns out, one of them was completely useless for the bacterial infection he has, the other, Cipro, is known to have a lot of very serious side effects including damage to tendons.
shows this: «Tendinitis with subsequent tendon rupture has been documented in a number of case reports. One patient with chronic renal failure developed bilateral Achilles tendon rupture after four days of ciprofloxacin therapy.»
Now, even without a medical degree, and knowing that most people who have ‘Campylobacter’ bacterial infections recover on their own, knowing that my husband has, in the last two months, torn two tendons in his shoulders (one for the second time) and has 10 herniated discs in his back among other problems, would you really want to take a chance on giving him something that could cause irreversible damage to an already very vulnerable body? Dr. Shalit thinks it is worth that risk.
My husband and I don’t think so, so he politely asked for something else. Dr. Horowitz wasn’t happy to hear that my husband didn’t want the cipro, but said that there are alternatives and he should call in for a prescription when he was ready. Today, I call in for a prescription for a drug with signficantly fewer side effects and certainly fewer that could hurt his already fragile system. Dr. Shalit wanted to know why he wouldn’t take it even though he already knew and then proceeded to tell me that he wouldn’t prescribe anything else because what my husband wants isn’t the medicine he needs for this type of infection and that I should treat him myself since I don’t want him to take a toxic drug. He said that aspirin can kill people and toxic side effects are not a reason to avoid a drug, but I say most people who take this are not as damaged as my husband in the first place. He was rude and belligerent and didn’t seem to care that my husband has such serious health issues rather he seemed to be seriously offended that he didn’t want to take the drug that he prescribed. I finished by telling him that his approach was rude and completely uncaring of my husbands serious issues and that he is a terrible doctor. My husband has wanted to change doctors for some time and now I am going to make it my mission to find him a new one. If you value your health, then I wouldn’t go to someone who is unwilling to listen as he has been unwilling to listen to us.
Note: A young man who took Cipro for 6 days (12 pills) and had no risk factors had such serious damage to his muscular, skeletal, and nervous system that years after discontinuing the drug, he is bedridden and unable to walk to complete basic tasks much less really live as he used to (www.cirproispoison). Clearly Dr. Shalit didn’t bother to look into this before he recommended this drug to my husband or even after we expressed doubts about it. He doesn’t seem to care if my husband who has many risk factors ends up like this and at most would apologize if it did happen and my husband would be the one to live with the horrible consequences for the rest of his life.
