New Waves Launder Center

It’s truly sad that despite the limited number of laundromats in my area, I will not be returning to this laundromat.
I changed a 20 $ bill – at this facility & the machine popped out a funky looking quarter. I immediately turned to the employee (2ft away) to exchange it. He claimed, «we check our machine every night and that wasn’t in there.» After a minute of arguing, I chose to try using the quarter & it worked. It amazing that the business would choose to upset a customer (& ultimately lose future business) over 25 cents!
Yes, the laundromat is fairly clean, but cleanliness is not enough to sustain my patronage as it’s really annoying to be disregarded in this manner.

The staff is rude and have no problem pushing you out of the way to do their own laundry. I will never come back here again, a simple laundry session took 2 hours longer than it should have and I had to wait until the employees finished their own laundry, ha! Do it after rush hours if you don’t want to lose customers.

This place is great always clean and friendly staff. I have been using it for quite sometime now. I usually come on my day off during the week– never seems to busy, so there are always machines available.

After walking by this place a few times late at night I decided to give them a try.
I’ve only been here once, but if you enjoy the security, privacy, and peace of doing your own laundry, then the self-​service here is what you’re looking for. I think the last wash is 10pm (it says that on their entrance door sign but they close at 11pm, so time things wisely), which is later than any laundromat I’ve previously been to. I also think I saw they’re open that late 7 days a week. At least they’re open 7 days a week, right?
To start, this is the cleanest laundromat I’ve ever seen for self-​service. I don’t feel like a failure if I accidentally drop a sock on the floor, and the carts used to move laundry around the shop are new-​ish and clean. I think the dryers might be pretty new as well, which is a plus.
Second: it’s huge. There are plenty of dryers, as well as double and triple loaders, so feel free to bring all your stuff without worrying about waiting for a machine. I didn’t have to ask anyone to clear space for me– there are so many folding tables you can practically put your stuff on two. And the carts for holding laundry are abundant. There is also (I think?) an ATM inside, a quarter dispenser, as well as a big self-​service soap/​softener dispenser. I like that I never have to talk to anyone while I’m doing my stuff here. I like that I never even have to stand next to anyone while I’m doing my stuff here.
Third: it’s quiet and relaxing. When I went (5:00pm on a Tuesday) there were only two or three other people. Usually, that many people can create a claustrophobic feeling. But here, the space still felt really open. There is a long comfortable sitting bench off to the side to read if you’re going to stay during loads, and two large flat-​screen televisions as well. They had the Food Network on while I was there. I honestly feel like it would be secure enough to leave your stuff there between loads if you wanted to grab a coffee or shop for an hour. It was a pretty stress-​free experience overall.
If costs are ultimate factor for you, this is probably not the place to go. It’s $ 3.25 for a double-​loader wash, and $.25 for 5 minutes of dry time. Okay, so that’s not outrageous, but for $ 2.25 a wash you should hit up the self-​service on 16^th and 6^th Ave. It’s a little pricey compared to other self-​service places I’ve been to, but for the hours they’re available and the overall ease of my experience I have to say I really recommend this place.

This laundromat is clean well lit and lots of working machines. Thy had lots of carts for wet clothes. It closed at 11pm. Their are two big tvs to watch while waiting. The staff reminded us that 11pm was the closing time when we showed up at 9:45pm. He wasnt rude just stating fact. There are no computers and I couldn’t not pick up a free wifi signal.

I really want to like this place. There are good things about it. As Brandon C. writes, the computer stations make the place interesting. The washers and dryers are in good condition, at least compared to the place I used to go to, on 17^th and 8^th. That place has been rapidly declining and seems to have closed down. New Waves is the roomiest laundromat I’ve found nearby. It’s also open later than other places, which is a plus for me.
My problem is with the staff. All three times I’ve been there, I’ve gotten a bad vibe from them, as if they’d be perfectly happy for me to drop dead on the spot. Of the twenty or so words they’ve spoken to me, half of them have been gruff — and I don’t mean charming gruff, I mean rude gruff.
I don’t need them to love me, or even try terribly hard to make me feel welcome. But at worst they should be neutral. I could really do without the borderline hostility.

So I am in New York for two weeks and needed a place to do laundry. Hotel laundry service is a bit too pricey for me and I don’t ball like Diddy with my expense account. It’s all about ballin’ on a budget, so I had to look for a place near my office down in Chelsea.
Enter New Waves Laundercenter.
Now, this is only my second time dropping laundry off in New York and they didn’t lose anything this time around. They said everything would be ready at 6PM and I showed up at 8:30PM, only to wait for them to fold my clothes so I could leave. I don’t roll like that. She was also a bit confused since none of my socks matched since I don’t own white socks nor attempt to match them each day.
Here’s where New Waves Laundercenter soars above all others.
There are computer terminals inside for the patrons to use while they wait for their laundry to finish. Um, I never thought the Chelsea would attract laundromat skeez. But New Waves is definitely soaring high above the others and making new waves. Upon walking in, we saw a guy looking at porn. Porn we couldn’t quite make out since we just walked by laughing. On the way out though, tubesteak. Yes, gay porn and he had a grin the size of the Grand Canyon when I left. Thank you New Waves Laundercenter.
All in all, it cost me $ 9 for four pounds of laundry since it is $ 9 for the first nine pounds I believe. A bit cheaper than my last bill in NYC. If you are into weird people, mediocre service and looking at porn while you wait for your panties to dry, check out New Waves Laundercenter.
