Would frequent this place for everything home repair and shelf building and roller shade cutting related when I was still up in WH. The people who work there are eager to help. When I brought in some not-in-store purchased roller shades that needed the steel rods trimmed down, they didn’t want to cut them down at first, but some guy(who likely doubted my ability to manage a hacksaw) cut them down for me. Prices are reasonable considering the accessibility of the shop(definitely not Home Depot prices, more like HD + subway fare prices). :)

This is my go-to hardware store, and I love the go-getter attitude of the management, and the way they stock everything from chic kitchen supplies(very nice stovetop kettles, swiffer-paraphernalia, wooden dryers, washtubs, and Euro-coffee-ware) to basics like nuts, bolts, paint, wood(they will cut to order, and they stock quite a selection for a small store), cleaners, and even pvc piping and fittings. If they don’t have a thing, they can tell you where to find it – or bring it in from another of their own stores. And their prices are extremely good! I consider myself lucky to live nearby, and I’ve gotten everything from them, from kitchen lights, drainboards, waste baskets, keys, carpeting, theatrical supplies, and rope to my nice apartment doormat. I’ve also built shelves for myself very inexpensively with their wood and supplies, having them cut the pieces to order for me. They speak both Spanish and English, and will special order items for you no problem. They are always bustling, and you can tell why: they’re the best source for all sorts of household items. The owner is great to talk to, and very businesslike. This store at 187th St & St. Nicholas Ave is one of a small chain of northern Manhattan hardware stores that has been rising and expanding for years in the neighborhood. They have other stores at Broadway around 191st or so, and most recently St. Nicholas about two blocks below, at 185th/184th.

I didn’t go to this hardware store for a long time bc of the bad review, but when my usual place was closed today, I checked it out. They made me a very good set of keys that worked perfectly and had the batteries I needed for my key fobs as well! The staff seemed knowledgeable and there seemed like a large selection of items as well. I recommend checking it out!

It would be nice if this hardware store were competent. WH needs all the decent retail it can get. But it’s not. They couldn’t even make keys. When I returned the keys they failed to copy correctly the first time, they made the same mistake again: used the wrong key blanks. When I pointed this out, they just threw a tizzy-fit and refused to do it right or refund my money.
