Noche Mexicana

Haven’t tried anything else but the combination nachos were on point. Best nachos I’ve had in a while. Goes well with cerveza and Netflix.

So I’ll start with the good– some of the entrees are pretty tasty, and the margarita prices are super reasonable for NYC. The good unfortunately ends here.
First, I would like to point out this restaurant has ZAGAT rated signs all over, including one by the front door for ZAGAT 2015. After my experience last night, I went home and checked my ZAGAT guide (also 2015). Nope. Not in there! and for the sake of argument, I even went to ZAGAT’s website which yielded this result — «Your search, noche mexicana, did not match any places.» Hmmmm, I think this speaks for itself before I even share my experience…
Now on to my dining experience on 2÷6÷2016:
I made a reservation on OpenTable for 9 people for my birthday. Two of my friends cancelled at the last minute, so I updated the reservation to 7 people about an hour before our 7p dinner, as a courtesy so they could free up a table (thankfully, we had planned on 7p, otherwise they would not have been able to seat us at all, and I would have been waiting a very long time since the restaurant is fairly small). When I walked in and said reservation for 7, the waitress gave me an «uh-​oh» look and proceeded to shoo another waitress (on her dinner break) off of one table so that we could squeeze a few tables together (we certainly would not have been able to fit our original reservation for 9). Little did I know this was just the beginning.
Once we sat down, we could not get any of the waiters attention. It took 40 MINUTES before we could order our first round of drinks. At this point we were afraid we would never get the waitress back to our table, so we went ahead and ordered food too. I’m not sure if they forgot, or were blatantly ignoring us, but half of our drinks came out after about 20 – 25 minutes, the other half did not come out until after the first few entrees had been delivered ANOTHER 20 minutes later. This was particularly confusing since we had all ordered margaritas, and you would think a Mexican restaurant would have margs ready to go!
Now onto the dinner. Honestly, I don’t mind if the food takes awhile as long as you come check on us and fill our water glasses. Even with this seemingly simple task, we had to ask multiple times just to get our water refilled since we had been there an hour at this point and still had not gotten drinks. When our food finally did arrive, I had the luxury of tasting all of my friends dinners since our waitress confused my chicken fajitas order with a burrito. Cue another 30 minute wait for my food… I’d also like to point out that when my friend ordered beef fajitas with flour tortillas, the waitress made a big deal out of saying «ohhh your mean STEAK fajitas!» This was comical since unfortunately his was the worst of our 7 entrees in terms of meat quality. He also did not receive flour tortillas with his order, and had to ask 3 times before he finally got a single, large flour– burrito tortilla.
When my fajitas finally arrived (after all of my friends finished eating of course!) we ordered another round of drinks that simply never came. At this point we were all so incredibly frustrated that we decide to ask for our check. AGAIN, we had to ask multiple times, and one of my friends ended up going and finding a waitress and following her around until we could get someone to print our check (gee you would think they would want to get paid). She also discovered on this adventure that most of the wait staff was just hanging out in the back of the restaurant.
Of course, we were not surprised to see that the bill was incorrect. Naturally, they charged us for the burrito we did not order, and it was another ordeal to get that removed. They also never came by to pick up our credit card to pay, so we had to go find our waitress again to actually pay our bill. Thankfully they had not charged us for a second round of drinks that we ordered, but never received. We were also grateful that even though we had a table of 7, gratuity was not automatically included.
TLDR: This restaurant has BY FAR the WORST service I have ever received at a restaurant. Excessive wait times between getting checked on, reservation not ready, wrong food, having to ask multiple times for everything, having to fetch our own check, it goes on and on. On the bright side, my fitbit told me I was in the «fat burn zone» during my time at this restaurant because my heart rate was elevated from annoyance…

Bad and slow service. Really good chips. But you only get one for free. Then they’ll charge you for the next batch. who does that? If you come as one person you get a batch. If its two ppl you get the same amount and get charged if you want more. Also. .really really slow. We were the only ones here for a while and it’s been about 20 minutes since we ordered.

I am just in love with this hidden gem.
Almost no English speaking, very low key EVERYTHING, but the food is so real, so tasty, and on the cheaper side!
Love to stop here for a no fuss dining and If I’m starving for a Mexican food.

This is my favorite Mexican food in the Upper West Side. I mostly order in, probably 1 – 2 times a week but I have been to their location as well. I am the kind of guy who always tries the chicken burrito no matte what Mexican joint I go to around the city. Without a doubt, this places has one of the best chicken burritos, if not THE best I have had in NYC. Most of their other food I have tried is great too, and I like their Tostados a lot as well. I highly recommend this place. Inside Tip: If you order from their website, and not from Seamless you can get a 10% discount on order by using code ‘cash’ at check out.

Their pozole, grilled chicken quesadilla and enchiladas are between the dishes we usually order.
Service is average, but efficient.

First and foremost I am not one to give negative commentary. But this place is terrible for ordering delivery. They claim to have never received my order from online but money was taken out of my account needless to say I never received my order and I had to go through leaps and jumps in order to get reimbursement from Unilocal itself.

The food here is great. It’s unfortunate that the people who work during the lunch rush are horrible. I work in a school in the neighborhood, we order over $ 100 weekly from this place but after today we will no longer be ordering from here.

This is my go-​to place for ordering Mexican food!
Would definitely recommend the quesadillas (specifically the steak one — it’s packed with beef and cheese, more so than any of the other kinds of quesadillas in my experience). As for tacos, I love their beef tongue soft shell tacos, as the heaviness of the beef tongue goes really well with the lighter toppings of lettuce, onions, and tomato.
The tortilla chips come in a huge paper bag, and are definitely worth the $ 3.50. The green and red salsa are fantastic though a little thin and watery, but a 50 cent order of extra salsa means you get a generous handful of em in your order. I appreciate that this restaurant doesn’t skimp on any aspect of the food.
Delivery is prompt, courteous, and the food arrives hot every time.

I always come here for authentic Mexican food that’s one of the best in the upper west side. Their tortas especially are not only cheap but have tons of ingredients that other Mexican places sometimes skimp out on. Seriously worth a trip to if you’re in the area. Its good quality food for reasonable prices.

Went with my best friend for dinner and got the worst service I think I’ve ever received in a restaurant — ever. The waitresseS were rude upon arrival and acted as if my questions about the menus were bothering them. Our orders arrived missing all kinds of things and they were in a rush to drop off! Only 6 tables with two waitresses and they didn’t have a second to be asked about an extra napkin. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING so I guess that’s the trade off lol. Our waitress never returned to ask us about our food or if we needed anything, in fact the only time she was attentive was after we asked for the bill and she wanted her money sad because I live in the area and wanted a taqueria near me

This is the REAL deal, at least for our neck of the woods… delicious food, reasonable prices, courteous staff who are ALWAYS trying their best. For those not in the NYC area this may not make sense, BUT I/​we will walk the extra few blocks to come here. They have ALWAYS been consistent. When friends visit from out of town & want Mexican food, this is my «go to» place & guests have always been pleased. I have never gotten take out, so I can not comment on this.

Decent enough, overpriced for the quality. The only thing I’ve ever liked from here is the grilled chicken nachos. They give you good quality for that. A large portion of chips, guacamole, jalapenos, salsa, and sour cream. Their guacamole is actually pretty good, but I don’t know if the overall cost makes it worth it.

Yeah, had high hopes for this place but the wait is ridiculous. The family before me has been waiting for their food 50 minutes and I’ve been waiting for over 20 minutes.
I hate giving bad reviews but they have to be a little faster with their orders. I’m actually still waiting. I doubt I’ll return considering the waiting is annoying; especially when you’re on lunch break and starved! Just not cute!

The food is good; I’ve had better but it’ll do for now. I wanted tacos and that’s why I came here.

Ordered for delivery, took over an hour of waiting and a phone call to get our food, which arrived cold.

I don’t know what I was thinking the night I followed my friends to this spot near campus. Coming from Houston, I know to be wary of Mexican food up north, but months without getting my taco fix had worn me down, I guess. Service was slow and very sporadic. Our food came out barely warm and very bland. I don’t know what these other reviewers think is authentic Mexican, but this is definitely not it.

This Unilocaler never bashes a restaurant except this time. The only reason they even got even one star is that Unilocal requires some type of rating.
1. Service was incoherent, inconsistent and incompetent. I know it’s an authentic Mexican Restaurant, but perhaps some in the joint should either understand or speak English as a second language.
2. Food was cold, bland and soup kitchen quality.
3. Décor — not worthy of comment.
The bathroom was clean however — I hope they took a picture of me because it will be the last time they’ll ever see me.
Awful, Awful, Awful

Have ordered from here many times, the 1 star review is for the inconsistency in delivery. First time i ordered it took an hour and a half. Food was great so I ordered again. Have ordered over 15 times from here and the times range from 10 minutes to 2 hours. I ordered one night and specifically how long it would take and was told a ½ hour. 1 hour and ¹⁄₅ minutes later it arrived iced cold.
I ordered breakfast this morning at 11:30. Called at 12:15 and was told it was n the way, the kitchen just made it. I asked them, being a chef, why did you what 45 minutes to fire the ticket? People expect breakfast fast and prompt. I told them at this point to cancel my order. My craving for breakfast has long passed. They told me to tell the delivery guy to cancel it when he got here. I told them to get on there phone and call him and tell him to not bother coming. Its not my job to do yours!
Its a shame, its really good food. Just need to find a new place. Any suggestions upper west siders.
Note to managers, using the same old answers like «it just left’, «its on the way» or «we are just so busy «is really not good customer service.
Maybe someone from management can respond!

Short & sweet here:
Ordered a burrito via takeout. Came really quick. Chicken burrito was big and filling.
Lettuce comes outside the burrito which is weird but I just sprinkle it with every bite.
Found an insect in the lettuce. It standing out alone like that makes me feel it was a big oversight. Will not order from here again.
Too bad, decent burrito ruined by a buggie.

Home style cooking, delicious and traditional but not refined.
The giveaway of any Mexican restaurant is the tortilla and cheese. If you are served white flower tortilla and yellow cheese it tends to NOT be authentic. I am happy to report here they are traditional and authentic.
Please know this is not high end Rosa Mexicana style cuisine that you get at a $ 40 a plate restaurant. This has more of a neighborhood feel with the local flare. Authentic simple (in a good way) food that my mom would have made. Some may find the plating too simple. Low price and good food.
