This place used to be better. When I first started going here, the meat was real lamb or chicken on the spit. Fries on the gyro is a Greek thing. If you get a gyro in Greece; they put fries on it. Now, they use that pressed processed lamb. It is almost impossible to find a place with real lamb. I still go here because it is open late and less expensive for the area.

Can’t complain about this place. Cheap compared to the surrounding area, you can get a whole combo with fries and soda for less than $ 10 bucks. Never a long wait. They put fries in the gyros which make them even more delicious. The meat and sauces are all very tasty, especially the chicken(lamb is mehh). If you like cheap no-frills but fulfilling food for lunch, this place is for you!

I found this place when I worked in the area. The place is dirt cheap and the Gyros are really yummy. You get a big gyro with a fountain drink and Fries for $ 6. They keep the place clean. They used to have vegetarian option too but I don’t believe they have it anymore. Anyways, I always get the Spicy Chicken Gyro with Fries on the side(no soggy Fries for me). I don’t eat beef, so I am not sure how it is but the chicken gyro meat is really juicy, tender, greasy, & flavorful. On rare occasions when I am in the area during weekdays around lunch time, I make it a point to get my unhealthy cheat meal there. Planet Gyro was connected to Pomodoro Pizza & Café Bravo, not sure if it still is, but you have other options if you don’t feel like Gyro for lunch. Recommendations: Spicy Chicken Gyro

Not sure I understand all the hate. Maybe they changed up the place recently? I went for lunch today and got the lamb gyro. For $ 4.50 I got a decent sized gyro with good quality meat, very tasty sauce, and some tomato salsa. More of a chalupa than a gyro, but still very good, and very cheap. Again, this is in 2015 so maybe they changed it up a bit. This is also not a Seamless review so I can’t speak to the service.

So I’ve eaten here since 2005 right around when things starting gettting redeveloped downtown post 9⁄11. It had some dark times in between. They may have turned it around. Something haven’t changed the cucumber sauce they put on their sandwiches are still awesome. They have this quirky thing they do, they stuff their gyros with fries. The gyro used to be much bigger but I don’t mind that it’s shrunk. It would have gotten 4 stars if they still sliced the meat off the skewer but they don’t do that anymore.

I ordered from here via . After an hour, I called to check on my order. I was told 10 min. Then, I got a call 20 mins after saying they would not bring my food, it was too far.

This place was closed when my office first moved down the block. Probably a good thing considering all the bad reviews. My guess is they made a lot of changes because when I stopped in a couple weeks ago to try I was more than happy with what I got. The meat is average, but totally saved by the stellar sauces. Extra star for putting fries in the gyro. I wish more places did this with burritos in NYC. $ 4 for 1 or $ 8 for 2 and a drink. Not bad for the neighborhood.

This place is absurd. I’ve ordered takeout from here through Seamless. the Gyro isn’t bad… but they always forget to include the fries, that are very clearly stated on the menu as included(not delivering side dishes is a common gripe of the seamless reviewers). So I decided to give them another shot. I added in my notes on my order«please don’t forget the fries»…the deliver comes and they took FOUR french fries and stuffed them INSIDE of the gyro. Now I just think these people are total a**holes – as our their delivery staff.

Great gyros with fresh ingredients. Love this place. The gyro meat is not the best, otherwise would be 5 stars

Not sure if things have improved since all the poor reviews, but I just had a great Greek style gyro from Planet Gyro. Service was competent and very friendly. Ingredients were fresh, and it was very tasty. I’ll be back.

«Downtown is for People» they’d say. But frankly I don’t know much about this part of town. So after meeting a friend in late afternoon, I dropped by this place and picked up 2 Gyros, #1 Greek & #4 New York style Gyro. It’s not great but also not that horrible as other reviewers put 1 star. It is connected to the pizza store next through kitchen and quite clean actually. Maybe there’s something else I don’t know but I don’t read any specific foul play that would deserve 1 star. Please note that Gyros come with French fries often even in Paris, France. Give me some other reason.

Oh, why, why didn’t I consult Unilocal before I followed my friend here for lunch? This place was so disappointing. It is a very simple storefront, with a simple menu. At first glance, I was thrilled to see it was around $ 4 or $ 5 for a gyro, depending on if you got chicken or lamb. Then I noticed that it costs 50 cents for each topping, including regulars like lettuce and tomato. They had some interesting topping choices, including corn and french fries. By far the worst thing about this place was the meat. Usually at gyro places the meat has been reconstituted, mixed with spices, and put back on the spit in one big slab. At Planet Gyro it seemed that they received their gyro meat by collecting all the scraps from the gyro factory and stacking them on top of each other. There was so much gristle and fat, it was ridiculous. I think they were doing us a favor by giving us small portions. The employees were horribly incompetent. When one of my friends asked for the spicy feta sauce instead of the tzaziki, the two employees tried in vain to figure out which sauce that was. Since both their primary languages were different and not English, a lot of hand-gesturing ensued. They still gave my friend tzaziki. Overall, avoid this place at all costs. It doesn’t even redeem itself by being cheap.

Please, please avoid this place unless you’re really starving and just need something to sustain your body… the gyros are pretty gross. I just happened to be walking by this place on a Saturday night when most other things in the area are closed — I thought it couldn’t be that bad… gyros are pretty simple meals, but they still managed to make this one not great… it wasn’t anything specific, I guess it just didn’t have very much flavor and tasted kind of old… This place is cheap so that is good thing, but the food… go elsewhere.

In an area as bleak as the Financial District during the late night, there are few options for eats like this place. Cordato’s AKA Dirty Mike’s next door isn’t always as 24 hours as they claim to be, leaving few people with no choice. Its a true shame too, because this place is a lot worse than it looks. Upon first glance, anyone who has had gyros in the past will know this is neither a Middle Eastern or Greek/Mediterranean cop off of any authentic establishment. Its a small place that is clean and convenient, similar to getting a bagel from a convenience store than a street cart. Its overly bright at times in here and while the seating area is limited to no more than a couple of tables, at least there is a TV playing in the background to keep the place from being totally boring. The Gyros themselves are a disappointment. Most gyros I’ve seen are skimpy on the meat and lacking severely on the flavor side. With $ 6 one could get themselves a combo with fries and while this place seems more popular during lunch, I’d avoid at all costs after 8PM.

Ever get drunk and find yourself out of the midwest without anyone to drive you to the Taco Bell and reach out for the closest thing to drunk food? Well even this place didn’t make the cut for me. I only like surprises in the form of puppies, kittens or money — never french fries buried in my gyro. Noooooo thank-you…

I always get the same thing from here — the buffalo gyro. Yeah, it’s not Greek by any means, but I like it. The only thing I am not crazy about is that they put french fries on top of the gyro. It’s good enough with just the roasted meat, sauce and tomatoes. We don’t need no stinking french fries! Not to say I don’t eat them, but it makes me wonder why they are necessary. The meat is tasty. You can have any gyro made with either chicken, beef or lamb and the only available side is french fries. It may not be authentic or diverse, but I like it.
