Such a wonderful experience here! I received a 100 year old high quality hat passed down from my grandfather and needed it stretched. The gentleman at the store did it perfectly and was very careful to keep the integrity of the hat and not ruin anything. Highly recommend!

I was on this quest for the perfect newsboy hat. I had a very specific look i was going for and kevin new right off the bat what was good and what i had been looking for. He offered me options, pros and cons, and ultimately ended up with a hat i was happy about. His expertise stood out when he padded my existing cap to match the fit of the one i just bought. 5 stars!

Kevin looked for what I needed and kept in touch until he found it. Excellent customer service. Quality products quality service.

Took the Ferry and a bus to get there, then walked by the shop 3 times before finding it,
but it was worth it. After seeing Kevin on Youtube I knew I had to check it out.
A lot of hats in a tiny store. Kevin was great. He helped me get the right hat and then tightened it up so it fit perfect.

What a fabulous little shop. I came in with a Stetson that I did not buy there and asked about having it stretched. The guy helped me with it and charged me nothing! He was so helpful and friendly. The shop is filled with cool hats and next time I’m in the market for one, THIS is where I’ll be going. This is one of those places that makes New York and the east village so cool. I hope it’s around for a good long while!

I love hats… I have a good number of western hats, I keep up at my cabin in the Berkshires, I have straw summer hats and a variety of casual hats. My daughter always gives me a hard time about some of the hats «your not young enough to pull it off, and your not old enough to wear one. Finally I found a great brown dress hat that she liked.
Now I was looking for a grey felt dress hat to go with a black overcoat. I searched Unilocal and found Pork Pie. I jumped on the subway and made my way to the store. Its a small store front on E 9^th. Kevin who’s name appears in many reviews was there. It was a real crummy snowy day so there was no one else there. Just me and my son. I thought I knew a lot about hats but learned a lot from Kevin. They have a good variety of hats in all shapes and kinds. We tried on about 12 different styles. i settled in on the CORDOBA in grey. Kevin steamed it up put a touch up shape to it, brushed it and added a feather, with another as a spare and /​or different look. Great hat experience, fantastic place to get what you are looking for. lifetime hat reshaping and work over.

Someone recommended the JJ Hat Center as the best place to buy hats, and I saw on their website that there was also a satellite store called Pork Pie Hatters in the East Village which had better hours (for me). So I emailed Pork Pie to ask if the two stores had the same hat selection. I figured at most I’d get a line or two that basically said yes or no, but instead I got a chatty email back that explained the differences in selection and in the feel and approach of the two stores, and questions about what I was looking for, from a fellow named Kevin.
After some more email discussion I went down to check it out. I was fortunate to arrive when there were no other customers, and Kevin was super helpful in guiding me through the hat selection process, offering helpful information and some advice but never pushing for a sale. He was very knowledgeable and I learned some things I didn’t know about hats (wool shrinks over time, fur never does).
The hats themselves are very nice. I went with a relatively inexpensivegray homberg that I’m quite happy with (my girlfriend calls it my Boardwalk Empire hat). Kevin gave me a nice box for it (I usually buy cheap hats on the street that are placed into a plastic bag) and gave me a few extra feathers I could put in the hatband.
There was a great selection (so many hats I would buy if I could afford it) and great service.
Just after I paid for the hat about 6 people descended on the store at once. So glad I got there at just the right time.

Pork Pies, Boaters, Fedora’s, Godfather’s, more~ I stumbled upon this small shop on the street between Ave A and 1^st Ave in the midst of their reorganization following the completion of their renovation (the full-​length mirror was on its way). Yet, I was taken in by the extensive selection on view. It was also a pleasure to peruse the collection in the company of the store proprietor, Kevin who seems to know just when you need his attention and when you don’t. A hatter in all respects, he was a repository of knowledge and an authority on all things hats. Kevin was able to guide me to the proper sizing as well after-​purchase maintenance & care of the felted, NYC-​made, short brim Godfather that I ultimately bought (pic pending). Lastly, a reminder of the benefit of buying locally –Kevin generously welcomes his hats back for complimentary cleaning/​steaming if needed~

Had a hard time finding the shop. Being from Jersey I passed it 3 times lol. Small but Great shop full of goodies. Ive been looking for a straw boater for a while having 0 luck at Dans hats in newark i came into the city. Having a big head I was happy to see the large selection of hats. Kevin was very helpful took his time to educate me about the hat and showed me how to switch up the ribbon. He also told me that he steams and shapes hats for free and I was astonished. Great shop definately will be coming back!

Simply as good as service can get! Kevin was superb in both fitting me for a summer straw boater for a party event and REPAIRING a straw i inherited from my dad in Law! I was happy when they opened in the East Village because there are many hat freaks down here (like me) and they do have anything you need in the way of a fedora, straw or cap. With style and grace!

Top of the line service and selection… We arrived an hour before opening but the mgr opened up anyways for us, and was super friendly and helpful to work with and made 3 sales within the hour. The selection of entry level pricing and higher end quality makes this place a fit for all.

Really as good as it gets, Kevin was absolutely the best in understanding, service, knowledge of hats and helpfulness towards the customer– this guy knows his stuff

I’ve shopped for hats in person and on-​line, but never had such a satisfying experience as at Pork Pie this week. Colin found me one hat that I had been looking for, suggested another hat I hadn’t thought would look good (but did), and discouraged me from buying one that didn’t suit my face. Selection is extensive, and price ranges from quite reasonable to you get what you pay for. In one case I was prepared to pay mucho $$$ for a particular style, but Colin told me that for the look I wanted a better choice would be the same style in a cheaper version, and to really wear it in. I walked out with 3 hats, and then my wife and I came back the next day to get another as a gift for her father. Great service and products!

These guys have another shop, JJ hats center for a hundred years or more, I purchased a foldable fedora from their east ninth st location and left feeling that I’d explored all the brim sizes and styles, and that this was the right hat for me.
the salesman who helped me showed me how to roll it up and put the hat in my pocket and gave me a tutorial on hat care, storage, what to do for rain,

I spent less than I had expected to and was left with the feeling that this was the hat for me, they also steamed it and told me that cleaning and maintaining the hat’s shape was always free whenever I popped in. I knew the salesman from their other location and was pleased to know they were connected.
This is a real-​deal, old time hat shop, No flash or trendy décor, just tons of hats, huge, huge selection, all fine grade, mostly made in Italy or US.
The guy behind the counter will talk your ear off, he tends to explain a lot about the hats, hat care etc. u can tell he likes what he does and is really into it.
the salesmanship is not overbearing, if u want to look at hats alone, try them on in peace, they let you. if u want sales help, they will also help you completely, best in the area.
