Recycle-A-Bicycle

Got a replacement rear wheel (used) for my commuter here after spokes started breaking too often. It was clean, true, and the bearings were freshly packed – it shifts better than my old wheel (no more oscillating cassette). $ 40 was a very fair price. Chris was great – professional, personable and knowledgeable.

I went back today to get a light put on my bike. The people who work here are *so* nice and work so quickly. Their prices are super fair. I’m really happy this is in my neighborhood, and only wish they’d put one uptown near my office, too!

This place rules. Great prices, friendly, knowledgable staff, and a very cool business model that educates young people about bike maintenance. Having experienced the good and the bad of bike shops in nyc, this shop is definitely one of the best.

These folks are awesome. Besides being a not-​for-​profit and helping the community they are honest and fair priced. I’ve never had an issue and I’ve been using these guys for over ten years.

Came by once with a problem I couldn’t diagnose myself. The issue was that my tire was misaligned because I had been fiddling with the quick release. This caused it to rub up against the frame and put a ton of drag on when I was peddling.
Recycle identified the problem right away and fixed it, free of charge. Only took them 30 seconds, but they easily could have pulled the wool over my eyes and charged me to fix it.
These guys were honest with me, and they look like they have awesome stuff. When I need to do a bike purchase, I’ll do it here and will update my review. So far, I’m impressed.

Bought my first bike here a few months ago. Great bikes here. They fixed up an old Fuji for me with all new components. Looks absolutely great! They employ high school students and teach them to fix bikes. Such a great concept! Also, their bikes are priced perfectly– felt like I got a great value!

Walked in here looking a used bike on a budget ($ 300). Took the first bike they showed me out for a test spin. Loved it. Walked out 10 minutes later.
Accessories seemed a little expensive (despite the 5% member discount you get after buying a bike from them). $ 70+tax for a lock that I bought for $ 50 shipped on amazon. Maybe I’m a jerk for not supporting local businesses? Oh well.

These guys are really cool and helpful. They have loads of used parts for great prices, including a small, but every changing collection of nice, leather Brooks saddles. They also sell new parts at market prices — but if you buy them here, you’re also contributing to a great cause — namely, their bike advocacy programs and bicycle repair programs for high school kids. I especially recommend this place for capable do-​it-​yourself bike repair types like myself. Keep up the good work, my dudes.

I love this place and refuse to go anywhere else. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, great prices (once got a new seatpost here for half of what some bike stores in Chelsea were charging (yes, I walked a bike without a seatpost from Chelsea to R-​a-​B)), and super fast service. The tuneups are legit; I had no bike problems for weeks after I got a tuneup ($ 50, not bad) here. The staff is amazing– so nice and accommodating and fast.
It’s a little out of my way, but it’s totally worth it.

Went here because it had good reviews on Unilocal and was close to my place. Front tire was flat because of some past shops negligence. They explained the issue was the rim tape was put on incorrectly. Went on a ride that weekend and got another flat, went to a different bike shop, they said the same thing about Recycle-A-Bicycle’s work which proved to be correct. I went in to get my money back, they refused even after showing them the shoddy work. Said there is no way of «truly» knowing what happened to my tube. Refused to do anything.
Poor customer service and accountability. Could have at least given me an extra tube if they weren’t going to replace my tire.

With Brendan’s help today I found the perfect bike for me, an all around great fit. I’m a pretty inexperienced rider and he helped me by answering all the questions I had. Brendan also explained things in a way that was thorough but not condescending. Not only did I enjoy finding a bike that fit me, trying it out, talking with the staff, but I liked buying my bike from an organization like R-​a-​B! In total, I am really pleased. I recommend it to my friends and to you.

This place is great. They take donated bikes, refurbish them, sell them, then use the money to educate youth. I was in the market for a new bike and the one I bought for $ 250 was an old mountain bike that they made into more of a road friendly bike… perfect I thought for the potholes and need to make quick turns in the city.
The bike is in great condition, although it looks old it rides like a dream due to all their repairs and updates on the bike. The gears shift better than the new one I had stolen from me recently.
What I really liked about this place was their willingness to deal with my slow decision making and ability to work with the description I gave them for what I needed in a bike.
These guys are exactly what they say — they have a limited supply of bikes but if you are patient and not too picky, you can find a great deal here. Also, for those of you that are not struggling in this economy and can donate to a good cause, this is a worthwhile non-​profit and green at that!

Used bikes start at $ 250+. They are definitely in better condition than other used bikes I’ve seen for sale around the city. The guy was pretty helpful which was a nice change from the other places I checked out.

This shop is great, you can bring your used older bike (no toys-​R-​us or Walmart bikes) and give you a tax credit receipt.
I never brought any parts from here, but I have dropped off a few bikes in the past and the staff is very friendly and accommodating.
If you can’t sell your bike or don’t think it is «worth» anything, you can bring it here to get rid of it.

This place is great. I bought a pair of brake levers from them, which the mechanic took the time to fish out of a crate of them in the back, for 5 bucks. I mean, it’s a dumb request, and he had better things to do. Zero attitude from him, and I saw other employees being similarly cool with other customers who came in when I was there. I would definitely buy a bike from them. $ 200 or $ 300 doesn’t seem like that much, considering that you have to pay rent and salaries, and that they’re doing it for a good cause. I’d rather buy a good quality used bike that has been overhauled, than a flashy looking new piece of crap that will fall apart or get stolen instantly.
So yeah, this place is good.
