A great little theatre, with a lot of charm and history, along with wonderful productions.
FYI, they have little digital subtitle screens for every seat, so you can enjoy the Spanish productions, without knowing the language!

Simply AMAZING…
If you’re a fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Julia Alvarez, and plenty of other Hispanic writers whose novels are unforgettable, then this place is your chance to see them come alive. If on the other hand, you’re a fan of flamenco or just good ol’ Latino comedy with an American twist thrown in there (En la USA Me Quede, anyone?!) then Repertorio is also for you.
I visited this Saturday to see «En El Tiempo de las Mariposas” — based on the powerful Julia Alvarez novel about the Mirabal Sisters during the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. The theater is somewhat small but that is also an advantage, since it allows for a great view of the stage in a way that almost makes you feel a part of the play. There really isn’t a bad seat in the house– seconds into the performance, I was very much engaged, truly feeling the characters’ witty comments, sense of humor, but also the frustration of living in a country where all their freedoms were curtailed. It was a very small cast, but they were so amazing, there was no need for more.
The plays are in Spanish and if your Spanish game is not too strong, no worries! They have simultaneous English translation in individual small screens for every seat. Last but certainly not least, the prices are super reasonable for the quality of their productions. It’s Latino Broadway at an affordable rate– $ 20-​$ 70.
If this sounds at all like something you’d be into, here’s a few things to consider to make your visit even more enjoyable:
1. If you’re driving, give yourself enough time to find parking. As opposed to other parts of the city where it is nearly impossible to find a spot, it’s midtown Manhattan, where there is some street parking but it takes a little while.
2. If you’d prefer, there is a garage on 26^th street that has a pretty reasonable rate at around $ 18
3. Check in with Unilocal for a free complimentary glass of wine
4. Enjoy!

This venue is the perfect place for intimate performances. Saw Olga Pericet this evening; the size and layout guarantees everyone a great view of the stage. Staff are all very polite and helpful. Oh, and cute selection of wine!

Aire Frio will make you laugh and cry all in a few hours. I really enjoyed it and you will too.

Loved La Nena Se Casa but have two complaints. Sound is awful at times, they really need to use mikes. Also they started 10 minutes late! I realize this is not Broadway but contrary to popular opinion Hispanics are not all late. We were seated twenty minutes before the start of the performance and it was unfair to make us wait. Oh and they didn’t start on time after the intermission. It was more like 20 minutes instead of the 15 minutes stated in the program. I don’t mean to sound unhappy but we do have somewhere else to go after this and we will be late!

Very cozy theater with some innovative productions. Prices are generally friendly and the space makes you feel like you’re at the theatre with friends.
Tips:
There are plenty of Indian eateries nearby
They added translation screens behind chairs so now even if you don’t know Spanish you can follow their productions.

An excellent small theater. The actors are amazing. Every performance I have seen from this company has been excellent, moving, and entertaining. The last one I saw was Locuras En Wichita. It was performed in a park, which was not a very nice park, however, the acting was so great I slowly forgot about all the surrounding sounds. I recommend this to take someone you love, for a date and even an outing with a friend.

I had visited this theater with my Frank Sinatra High School Spanish class about 10 years ago and had good memories of the place. I recently saw an advertising on television for «En el tiempo de las mariposas» so I decided to purchase tickets. I was extremely pleased to find that the theater had not changed, still very small and oh so intimate. It’s tight but there just isn’t a bad seat in the house. It just felt more meaningful than sitting in stadium filled with hundreds of people.
The show was absolutely amazing!!! My hats off to the actors in this play, they are just so extremely talented. A friend came in town a few weeks later and I had to take him to see this play and I ended up crying for the 2^nd time. The portrayal of this story is something I wish received more recognition. It is just amazing how with such little props these actors are able to draw you in to the story and paint such an elaborate picture.
I am all for Broadway but for so much less you get a great experience with some unbelievably talented folks. Not to mention, the staff is very polite and make you feel right at home.

I just saw last Friday ‘La Gringa.’ It was my first time at Repertorio Espanol and I feel like a fool because I have been living in this area for over 10 years and I just had the chance to experience this theater.
I was floored by the acting of all of the actors in the show. What a great spectacle! This is as professional acting as it gets and the theme of the show was marvelous. It was witty, funny, sentimental, sad, hopeful.
The small theater itself is comfortable; and the set-​up of the seating allows people to see the show perfectly from any seat. Any seat is a good seat.
And before the show they offer red and white wine free of charge! For 35 dollars, it doesn’t get any better than that in NYC.
I am most definitely coming back!

Great location. Amazing to have real theater in Español! A real thrill. I have seen a few shows. The only downside is sitting. I believe front section or balcony maybe the best. I have only been able to sit under the balcony. The sitting doesn’t limit vision from the stage but it feels tight. The staff is friendly. They offers wine for a low cost. Theater is clean and well kept.
Again the shows are high quality with well respected actors. Always a pleasure.

Not a bad seat in the house! I have seen several productions here and they have always been well worth it. The shows are either all Spanish or bi-​lingual but I hear they provide headsets for translation. $ 5.00 for wine and Puerto Rican or Latino themed plays. I love this place.

Have only seen two productions although I sure as heck plan on seeing more. It’s definitely better than your average substandard off-​Broadway play and to make it even more appealing: it has an international flair!
Many Spanish-​language plays here but I’m sure you can find bilingual and English-​only ones as well.
Matinée shows will give you a better bang for your buck.
The theatre itself is very old school and is pleasantly intimate. Audience members often have an opportunity to mingle with the cast after the show– yes, that intimate.
I love this place, their productions and overwhelming sense of community among the staff, actors and producers.
Also, it’s been here for quite some time. In fact, my mother said she use to watch shows here when she came from Puerto Rico (in 1987) for the first time. I’m sure it was here before then as well.
If you’re interested in performing arts like I am, I definitely recommend this place!

AY que bueno! Saw Ana en el Tropico and it was great! Really funny and captures our culture. Theatre is really small here but at least the view from any seat should be great. Still recommend sitting up front though. Oh and don’t bring your kids, get a babysitter and indulge in some adult humor!

Just saw Insomnio Americano. It was funny and filled with puns that reflect the reality of many immigrant Latinos. This play is particularly funny if you are Colombian, which I am not. It was, however, entertaining. I recommend going to see a play here. Since the theatre is so small, you really don’t have to worry about seat location. Good views from any seat (I sat in the far left of second to last row on first door and saw everything just fine).

I have been here to see Pantaleon y las Visitadoras. This play is only recommended for adult audiences. This is a nice theater and they serve (Merlot) wine. Good play and production. In «Pantaleón y las visitadoras» (Captain Pantoja and The Special Service,) the Peruvian Army recruits Captain Pantaleón Pantoja, a model soldier, a man of integrity and a good husband, for an outlandish mission: to create and manage a Special Service of «visitors» to fulfill the troop’s necessities. Even though it is everything against his moral code, Captain Pantoja is a consummate soldier and the visiting service quickly becomes the most efficient branch of the armed forces. Captain Pantoja’s official progress reports are filled with military statistics and jargon which often become the story’s funniest moments.
The production includes music by multiple Grammy Nominee, composer, singer and pop sensation Andrés Cabas. Cabas has created a score infused with tropical, Andean and jazz rhythms which transmit the essence of the Amazonian region where the play is set.
I also saw Ana en el Tropico. Excellent play with handsome Francisco Gatorno and former 2001 Miss Universe, Denise Quinones. Winning Drama of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize, ANNA IN THE TROPICS, is a poignant and poetic new play set in Florida in 1929 in a Cuban-​American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and «lectors» are employed to educate and entertain the workers.
Please note they provide headphones if you need English translation.

Small little joint, but well decorated and arranged. You are greeted with free red wine at the entrance, before you are indicated to the seating area; i actually got right back up and got another glass of wine… The show was for «La vida es sueño «from Calderon de la Barca. I couldn’t have been more pleased, what an incredible performance, excellent! What i liked about the joint is that it was very accommodating, very helpful staff, and the actors in the play were all top notch, this wasn’t any after school rehearsal… this was the real deal.

Yesterday was my first time attending a theater performance at the Repertorio. It is long and narrow but very nicely decorated. We were able to purchase a glass of red wine before the performance began and that was nice. The staff working there were very much welcoming and helpful I can’t wait until the next time I go back.
