Terrible terrible! The bed linens were stained and so was my bath towel!!:X Although my boyfriend slept under the covers I refused to and wore his sweatshirt to stay warm on top of the covers! The AC is also visibly filthy! When I hopped in the shower that night (with my flip flops ON) I noticed hair in the drain, it was NOT MINE! I got the room off Groupon which was clearly a mistake because nowhere did they post that this was a hotel AND hostel! If I were meaning to stay in a hostel that’s one thing but no I did not have any intention of doing so and was super disappointed! And I know bugs can happen but I killed 2 bugs in the one night we stayed there! I liked the exposed brick of the room and that was about it! Never again!

Don’t have a wedding here. Food was inconsistent and the staff is nice but they don’t know what they are doing. The valet is a joke. I won’t ever come back.

The room was very small with 1 little closet (way to little for 2 persons when it is for longer as for 2 nights). Very noisy with sounds from outside and inside. Bathroom was kinda clean in the evening but with so many people using it it wasnt later on. I know it is cheap but you can better take an airbnb or the ymca hostel.

Me and my husband go out and spend time together without the kids a few times a year and we must say this place is one of the coziest, most affordable and accessible place we’ve been to! This isn’t a fancy 5 star hotel, if you want a modern, fancy glass windows and a wonderful view spend more money and find somewhere else cos this isn’t the place for you. This place is right for people on a budget and is not choosy on what it looks like as long as they have a place to sleep and a to leave their stuff. The room we stayed was not that big but is very very comfortable and cozy, it was clean and so neat. The bathroom didn’t have a bathtub but there was a HUGE shower. The room also have portable heater that did it’s job pretty well, there’s also a small t. v with enough channel to watch and an A.C. The staff was really very friendly and very helpful, especially this lady MAGGIE, she was amazing in helping us when they could not find the note about our payment for the upgrade (which was not a big deal since we have a reciept) overall we are very happy with our two nights stay and we’ll surely be going back here again. 5 stars!

Stayed here with friend and brother-​in-​law. It’s what you expect if you have low expectations. Regardless of that, everything would have been adequate enough had my friend not been robbed by the cleaning staff here. One of his more expensive shirts he’d brought was stolen by a Spanish cleaner there. We know this for sure because he randomly spotted one of the cleaners in another room wearing a rare t-​shirt he’d received as a gift (that isn’t made anymore). We thought it must have been a pure coincidence until we went to doublecheck his luggage and sure enough it was Missing. We demanded to speak to the manager after the front desk clerk denied all allegations and said that we were mistaken — didn’t seem to want to listen to us whatsoever, most likely because it’s such a common occurrence there and they expect most foreign visitors not to speak up and complain. The manager also did not want to tell us the names of their cleaning staff (most likely illegal immigrants). Told the manager we’ll be reporting the issue to the Better Business Bureau for theft of property.

Quand nous sommes arrivés nous n’avions pas eu la curiosité d’aller lire les avis sur Unilocal.
L’aspect de l’hôtel était sommaire, la moquettes des parties communes faisait vieille (tout comme l’ascenseur). La chambre nous a agréablement surprises, lit propre, salle de bain raisonnable.
Nos serviettes ont été changées chaque jour, ainsi que les poubelles.
Ça manquait de prises électriques mais l’hôtel était bien pour ce qu’on y faisait: dormir !
Et puis le dernier soir nous sommes allées lire les avis sur Unilocal… Nous avons été étonnées jusque 23h quand, dans notre sommeil nous avons été réveillées par l’alarme incendie qui s’était allumée pour rien !!! Nous sommes allées chercher quelqu’un a l’accueil qui a décroché l’alarme et qui est parti avec (elle sonnait encore)
Je né peux pas reprocher la propreté de la chambre (qui est quand même la chose la plus importante je pense pour un hôtel) d’où mon 3 étoiles.
C’est clairement un endroit pour dormir et rien d’autre, si vous souhaitez du confort il faut aller ailleurs !
Le quartier est toutefois très bien, avec plusieurs restaurants, dinners, starbucks, pharmacie, supermarché …

Absolutely horrible experience! When we entered the room that was given to us, we were greeted by a horrible stench. The room was smaller than a prison cell with two beds crammed in it. Once we entered the bathroom, we saw cockroaches running around! They got someone to clean the bathroom eventually. But cockroaches would still keep coming out of corners and the stench would come back. We had to buy bathroom cleaners and room freshners from the adjacent Walgreens. The carpet in the room was damp and dirty. Overall it was terrible and very poorly-​maintained building. Definitely not worth the $ 150+ per night that we paid (something like $ 30 per night might have made some sense for the terrible quality). But it was non-​refundable, and thus we managed to survive the 2 nights that we had to stay at NYC. The free «wi-​fi» was horrible as well with very sketchy connection. The only positive point was that the location of the hotel in Manhattan was a very good one with plenty of shops and restaurants around. But we are definitely not going to stay in this hotel ever again!

If it was possible to give something below 1 star, I would have chosen that for this place. This place is terrible. They charged us $ 165/​night with taxes. But the stay and the place was horrible. The person at the front desk did not care much. The room had bugs. We were on the 7^th floor. The bathroom had a awful smell. There were cockroaches in the dressers and in the beds. We had to buy bug spray and lysol disinfectant separately for the room. The rooms are too small, unplanned and cramped. The carpet was sticky and smelled. The TV has no cable. So if the hotel is writing premium channels or cable, they are lying. They have bunch of local channels that is it.
Wifi was bad. At 2 am, we were woken up by load bangs or noises in the corridors. There is no coffee or breakfast provided for that high price charged for the room. I am not sure who gave this place anything more than 1 star. NEVER EVER STAY HERE!!!
The service was very bad. The elevator is ancient and not safe. This place should be shut down for major renovations.
DO NOT STAY HERE. There are better places in NYC. I usually do not like to write reviews. But I had to make an exception for this place. If I did not write anything it will be a misdirection for customers who think this place is livable. Please do not waste your money.

Schlimmes Hotel! Personal unfreundlich, Zimmer klein und meistens keine eigenen Bäder.

NEVER stay in the hostel part of this place!!! I stayed 5 nights during Sept with friends and it is the worst place I have ever stayed and I have travelled all through Asia, Europe, U.S.A. This place and our room was very unclean (we had blood on our sheets and had to get them changed twice & carpet was disgusting), staff (except Frank) were rude and very unhelpful, wifi dropped out constantly, I ended up with 13 bites on me which the pharmacist told me were from
Bed bugs. These were very painful and inflamed and it effected my enjoyment of NYC. I spent over $ 50 on creams and sprays to help with the bedbug bites. I will attach photos.
Also the fire alarm went off one evening and none of the staff communicated to us what was going on, my friend had to go down 3 flights of stairs to ask staff if we needed to evacuate! It wasn’t until the fire brigade came and checked on us that we knew we were okay to stay.
If you want an unforgettable time in NYC then DO NOT stay at this place! Spend the extra money to stay in a nice hotel, I wish I had of left this place after day 2 when the bedbug bites started to reveal themselves!

I stayed here between Aug 27-​Aug 29, 2015. This place gets two stars from me only because of the decent price for NYC, proximity to the subway, and nice neighbourhood. Oh, and wifi was an added bonus. While it was generally clean and provided the necessities of a hostel (bed, pillows, towels, toilet paper), there were bugs crawling all over the walls in the bedroom and bathroom for the entirety of our stay. For that alone, I would never return, even though the rest of the place was o-​k.

This is a hostel not a hotel. If you book on a travel website it will probably fail to clarify that not all rooms have their own bathrooms. If you are a college kid living in a dorm and you want to stay in the city it’s ok. Otherwise I wouldn’t recommend. Towels and bedding is laundered but stained. Wifi is spotty at best as you move upstairs and the tv in my room did not work.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. They charged double on my card, and never paid back.
We had a reservation here, but when we went to the hotel to stay, they sent us to another hotel «due to an unexpected trouble». In the end, both Royal Park Hotel and the other hotel that we actually stayed charged on my card. So, the card was doubly charged.
I called them several times to ask a refund of one of the charges, but every time they reacted in an impolite and uncooperative way, and they haven’t refunded it for several months. So, yeah, I would say it is actually a kind of fraud. We are now talking to the credit card company.
So, don’t make a reservation here. I think they should not be allowed business.

This is really nice looking hotel with free wifi around 5 mbs download speed, shared bathroom with the whole floor, without toothpaste, brusher, shampoo and breakfast. Maybe space is a little small for someone. However, it’s fairly cheap.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. While I didn’t actually stay at the hotel I made a reservation through
then cancelled immediately and was charged for the night regardless. The Royal Park staff was uncooperative, unfriendly and unhelpful when I asked for a reversal of charges.
With this lack of customer service I won’t be staying here or recommending to anyone.

After seeing some of the review for Royal Park, I was a little nervous to stay here with 4 of my friends. Luckily, Royal Park met all of our expectations and served to be the perfect place to stay during our week in NY.
We stayed in a private remodeled room with 2 double/​queen beds, and there was also another small room that fit 1 – 2 people. It was a lot bigger than what we had anticipated! The hotel has free wifi and cable TV which was nice at night when we were winding down. The staff was super nice, everything was clean and the only problem we had was with the water pressure– it took awhile to figure out how to fix the shower but eventually it worked fine.
As far as the area, Royal Park was the perfect location for us in the Upper West Side. Very safe, many families walking around, and literally around the corner from a Subway that took us all over NY. There were a bunch of restaurants walking distance from the hotel, too.
Overall a great experience for a GREAT price! Would definitely recommend for college students or newbies in NY looking to get a feel for the city in a safe, nice area.

I had no problems here… it was exactly what I needed… a place to sleep and store my stuff while on vacation. What else do I need?

Well, where do I begin?
This is my go to place when I’m staying in the city. It’s right next to the subway so you can’t really beat that. There’s a Walgreens at the end of the block and a laundromat 2 blocks up. Plenty of places to eat around here as well! My husband and I are staying here with our 6 month old son so we «splurged» for the room with double beds and private bath (which is only like $ 10-​$ 15 more per night).
The staff is very friendly. We are staying here while waiting to move into an apartment so they are getting to know us well. Due to our stay being longer than expected, we asked for a discount and they agreed!
My ONLY complaints — wifi. We are staying on the 4^th floor and sometimes can get it to connect but most of the time not. Secondly, the cleaning staff. They are VERY sweet BUT, most don’t speak a lick of English so even when the «privacy» was requested on the door they still came in the room. BUT they are in and out very quickly and daily so that is nice.
I really like this hotel. The first time I stayed here in 2011 I was scared to death after reading the reviews online but couldn’t pass up the price and I’m glad I didn’t! Definitely recommend this place!

Picture this… 22 year old, single, pretty decent looking girl traveling alone to the big apple, with a nickel to her name and no choice but to stay at a hostel…
I was freaking out!!!
Luckily, I found Royal Park Hotel & Hostels, and had a safe trip.
This place is legit, and the location is amazing! This spot is right next the 1 train on 96^th street, a few bus stops away from La Guardia, and a safe neighborhood. The room was private, clean and the restrooms were nice!
Highly recommended, and def. going back. :)
P. S. Super duper cheap at a great location…

It’s a hole in the wall kind of joint. But rooms are decent. Beds are good. Stayed in a room with a shared bathroom. Not bad. If you are ok with slimming it. This is a ok place. The most awesome part is the close proximity to a subway with all lines.
Let me know if you kneed any more info.

It may be these previous reviews are a lot older, but Royal Park Hostel doesn’t seem to be an avoid-​at-​all-​costs kind of place at all.
This was my second time staying in a hostel situation in the US, and my first time ever in New York. Having never stayed in a hotel/​hostel situation ever in the Big Apple, I wondered if paying $ 45/​night per person for a double shared bath would is enough for decent digs or a dump with pillows.
I was greeted with the latter, to my relief. The room is of decent size and simple, with two drawers, a tiny TV and a ceiling fan, and the room had a modest sized closet and a sink ensuite. The full sized bed was comfortable enough and free of bed bugs! That’s always a plus!
With laptop in tow, we were asked if we were going to use the wifi, and gave us a room on the ground level, the only floor where wifi works. Instead of the other guests who had to take their laptops to the comfy leather chairs in the lobby, we had the luxury to use the Internet from the comfort of our little room! Since we didn’t manage to snag a room with a bathroom ensuite, we had to share with the rest of the ground level, but the room was right next door to the bathroom and had very few problems using it when needed. For the most part, the bathroom was cleaned and restocked daily.
The front desk staff were also very friendly and helpful — guests are welcome to stow their bags behind the font desk prior to the 3pm check-​in, and had options to keep them there for some time after check-​out (which may be fee-​based; I’m not sure as I didn’t use that). They also have hair dryers and irons/​ironing boards available for use for free as well — one just has to ask.
It may just be me and my «slummin’ it» standards to think that this place has adequate accommodations, but I took a hostel virgin here and found the place to work just fine. Royal Park Hostel meets basic needs for a clean, safe place to sleep while being affordable and steps away from lots of places to eat and drink and play — just around the corner from the local and express lines and blocks away from Central Park and the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir!
I only spent three nights here, but it was nice to be back in Manhattan Valley and at a good price, and wouldn’t mind having this place as my base for an entire NYC trip (besides, how much time do you *really* spend on holiday in your room in Manhattan?).

The only redeeming quality of this place is its proximity to the subway. Other than that, nada.
The bed was so close to some hot pipe that at least 2 times we almost burnt ourselves on it and 1 time I think I saw some flames shoot up.
Fortunately, the quality of the room didn’t damper our trip.
