We called and made an appointment ahead of time — and I definitely recommend doing this. When we arrived for our appointment, there was quite a bit of security getting up to the showroom, but when we finally got there, our appointment turned out to be a personal consultation with Lee — the owner — and his assistant (her name escapes me, but she was fabulous!). We were undecided about what we wanted, but Lee and his assistant took their time showing us different styles in their showroom as well as in magazines based upon our preferences. Lee is definitely a diamond expert — he does all of the cutting and polishing himself in his studio and only uses high quality diamonds. He knows exactly how to set your diamond to make it look perfect too. Once we chose our diamond, Lee and his assistant took their time showing us different settings that would compliment it. At some point, Lee brought out wax models of some of the ones we really liked so I could see what they would look like on my finger with the diamond we’d chosen (for styles that were not in their showcases). In the end, we decided on a diamond and setting we loved — and Lee customized the setting just a bit to add the bezel I’d been hoping for.
The other great thing about Schaner is that they worked within our price range — we were never once up-​sold or pressured to spend above the budget we mentioned to Lee over the phone when we made our appointment. We were only shown rings that we could afford — and all of them were beautiful! Seriously, the value here is exceptional.
To sum it up, our experience couldn’t have been better. At no point did we feel rushed or hurried. We probably spent about an hour-​and-​a-​half working with the two one-​on-​one. We are more than pleased with the rings we chose and look forward to going back to see Lee any time we need jewelry in the future.
Oh, and maybe the best part — we’re not from NYC, but we paid for the rings at our appointment (I believe financing may be available too? Not sure.) — so Lee mailed our ring to us when it was finished to save us the hassle of another trip to NYC. So great. LOVE this jeweler.

I met the owner, Lee and his assistant at a Bridal event, last fall. We were happy with their designs, costs, quality of diamonds & ability to customize when we met them at the show. Several months later, as we get closer to finishing up the planning, I returned to these folks for wedding band shopping. I was surprised that they remembered the style of ring that I loved at the show & they seemed to remember my name! Brownie points there!
