Delicious! Enjoyed the Grumpy Russian and Bamberg sandwiches. Surprisingly light and refreshing with a cucumber & daikon pickle on the sandwich. Roasted brussel sprouts with onion and old bay seasoning 5 stars!

The food is quite good, the prices are a tad steep considering the portion size, service a bit slow considering the small number of diners, but the most annoying thing about this place is the loud, crappy music being played. I was here twice for lunch and the music is the most-awful kind of modern ‘sensitive girl rock’.

Seriously mediocre, and absurdly expensive. Fifteen dollars! for the cheapest sandwich(Bamberg? What does that mean?) and a lemonade. The lemonade was fine. The minimal chicken schnitzel, maybe 3 ounces, was fried to death and back. The roll/bun was doughy and gummy. The pickled greens/slaw were hard to find. Sauce was Russian dressing. Empty at prime lunch hours, for good reason. AVOID

Schnitz is pricier than most of the fast casual places I frequent, but sometimes I just have a craving for their fries(perfectly seasoned, possibly some of the best in the city, and with sriracha mayo) or the schnitzel over waffles, which together are my go-to«treat yo self» meal. The schnitz and waffles is a huge waffle with a big chicken schnitzel on top, served with maple syrup and a nice picked topping to round it all out. The little dessert is also really good but they often run out. One of my old roommates started here when the place opened so I’ve eaten many of the sandwiches, all of which are good but a little heavy for me with the pretzel bun, luckily you can order them naked. The space has good vibes and is an easy place to eat with a few friends or alone. Worth checking out at least once in a neighborhood of great food options.

I ordered the MHB(I think it was called) with a side of brussel sprouts. It cost $ 17.51 and I tipped a dollar. The contents of the sandwich were very good, the bread was terrible. This may be a personal preference but I don’t like a dry flavorless thick bun. Also it could have been my mood but I was thinking the brussel sprouts would be light tasting. Instead they were in a very dense mustard type sauce. By themselves they would be very good but with a sandwich of fried meat, it felt like overkill. It is probably good hangover food.

Such Great Food! The chicken schnitzel is outstanding, and will rock your socks off! Seriously addicting! The place is spotless and the food quality is excellent. The people are kind and the food is so original! Do yourself a favor and eat here if you don’t already. You’ll always leave happy.

It wasn’t until recently that I read of Schnitz; the NYC food lovers that I fangirl* over on Instagram have been posting photos of their Mario Batali-associated lamb schnitzel sandwich. One evening, I was going to see a friend’s play at a small East Village theater, was looking for a quick bite to eat before hand… and low and behold, Schnitz shined on the corner of 1st and 11th like a beautiful light, beckoning me to come inside for some finely-pounded meat on bread. Haaa. It’s not often I eat schnitzel. Since 2007, I recall eating it twice: once in Vienna, Austria(because OFCOURSE!), and once at a restaurant(181 Cabrini) in my old neighborhood. Schnitz once again reminded me of what a wonderful preparation a piece of schnitzel can be! With time being of the essence for me(I had about 15 minutes to order and eat it before the play I was attending!), the Bamburg caught my eye, so I ordered it. Though it’s the most basic option on the menu, I am not complaining, because it was delicious! The outside of the chicken schnitzel was crispy with a tender interior. The pickled cucumbers, daikon, ginger and shallots added an amazing boast of flavor. And can we talk about their great pretzel bread rolls? I find so many places attempt them but fail at them. Schnitz has a perfect one! I’m adding this to my mental list of «quick bites» in the East Village. It’s a great spot! * — Yes, I totally used it as a verb. No shame. Ha!

I loooove Schnitz. This is by far one of my favorite places to eat in NYC. Maybe anywhere. I believe I had the Bamberg a while ago before I went veg and I wasn’t that big of a fan. My fault though because it had dijon mustard on it and I don’t really like it! Anyways. I came back to try something else because Schnitz is only a block away from my apartment and it just looks so nice inside yadda yadda yadda. So now I’ve gotten the Yonz every time and every time it is so satisfying and fresh. And if you try it you have to squeeze the lemon on it. You just have to. Just 2 things though: 1. Sometimes they cut it(it’s a circle) and put it on an oval bun and it doesn’t quite fit as well as when it’s on the circle bun.(I realize what a petty complaint this is.) And 2. Schnitz, would you ever consider using vegan mayo instead?

I must be missing something here. I was anticipating getting a product similar to that in Central and Eastern Europe. But All I got was a breaded piece of fat. The fennel salad was lackluster. Great interior design, poor ventilation.

Schnitzel is delicious. For those of you who don’t know what«Schnitzel» is, allow me to educate you, casually of course. According to the Schnitz website: It refers to a «thin cutlet, dipped in crunchy breadcrumbs and fried to golden, delicious perfection.» This was my best Schnitzel experience to date. It’s also very fun to say«Schnitzel.» But that’s besides the point… Schnitz, located in the East Village, was started by three young«restauranteurs.» Two of them happen to be brother/sister. The entire staff is insanely friendly and the food is crunchy, surprising, flavorful, and 100% delicious. Schnitz got it’s start at Smorgasburg in 2011 and never looked back. They’re venue in the East Village is fun, bright, and a pleasure to stop by. I had the pleasure of dropping in to try some of their favorite menu item’s, including the LEGENDARY Schnitz & Waffles — Chicken Schnitzel, Smokey Pickles, Classic Coleslaw, Maple Syrup, and Chipotle BBQ. Trust me, you need to try this. And don’t blame me when you make this a before, during, and after work stop. There wasn’t a bad dish. Loved it all. And it’s cheap! That’s rare. NOTE: We only post 5-star reviews. If we don’t like an establishment, we will not write a review on Unilocal. More Recommendations:

Ordered catering from here with my office and it was freaking delicious. Food arrived freshly prepared and the sauces are amazing. I had the honey Sriracha along with the beet tzatziki sauces and they were both refreshing spin-offs to their originals. Potato salad wasn’t warm upon arrival considering the heat nowadays. The schnitzel was thinly cooked and evenly breaded without any burnt or bad tasting bites. Definitely a good summer picnicish staple food and warms my heart with how fresh it tasted! Will definitely come by for lunch some day.

Schnitzels. Everyone in the world has these, don’t they? Whether they’re called schnitzels, milanesa, katsu, or chicken fried steak, they are all basically the same thing made slightly differently in their own herbs. Katsus are my most often consumed out of these breaded meat variety, but I’m always up for a good schnitzel or milanesa, and I have been known to get an occasional chicken fried steak here and there also. This little comfort joint has ample seating and a counter in the back, where you order a variety of different types of schnitzels, either in sandwich or plate formats. They also have beer, both tap & bottles, and at $ 7& $ 6 each they are an okay deal. The sandwich is what I got, and at $ 10 I initially wonder if this is a good deal. If I’m giving Shake Shack 5 stars for a $ 10 burger, however, I’ll leave room for something similar. Well, this $ 10 sandwich is much more substantial in size than the burger so at least from that sense it is worth it. The sandwich is on pretzel bread — interesting choice, but it turns out the pretzel is quite good even though I am not a pretzel man. The schnitzel is bigger than the bun, which is a good sign and balances out the bread quite well. The schnitzel is also bona fide delicious, with one flaw. I got the Buffalo Wing schnitzel, where the hot sauce was way too salty. I should have expected that, so dummy me. The bleu cheese flavor also didn’t go too well. So, no more Buffalo style, I will order a regular next time. So the price tag is fine, and the girl at the counter was so nice, taking time to explain everything to everyone. So the 4-star is based on that one sauce which took away from a great schnitzel a bit, but another try and I may add a star. Table-for-1 Factor: This is more like fast food — go up to counter, order & pay, and they bring the food to you. So it’s perfectly fine to eat alone.

Schnitz has a pretty serious following and is a staple at Smorgasburg so, it almost feels silly to review it, but I’m already here so, lets do this. The first time I came to Schnitz I stood outside and the read menu for ten minutes. Then I decided, «I don’t know what the fuck any of this is so, I’m going to artichoke pizza and calling it a night.» Then I saw Schnitz at Smorgasburg a few weeks later and decided I needed to come back. My first time at Schnitz I ordered the bamberg which is: Chicken schnitzel topped with pickled cucumbers, daikon, ginger and shallots and a caramelized onion dijon mustard. Some things to clear up: 1. Chicken Schnitzel(which I had never had before) is basically a thin, crispy chicken cutlet. 2. Daikon is a mildly flavored radish. It’s fine, go with it. 3. Shallots are a type of onion. OK maybe you already knew that, but I DIDN’T SO, SHUTUP you pretentious Unilocal user. The sandwich was a delicious, unique surprise. One of the best parts, without question, is the pretzel roll it comes on. However, the best schnitzel choice in my opinion is the buffalo chicken schnitzel. This sandwich is not displayed on the menu for whatever reason, but you can find it on Seamless. Either way, if you order it in store they will abide, my friends. Quite simply, the buffalo sauce is ON point and that pretzel roll is an orgasm in the ol’ mouth every damn time. Things I would pass on: The brussel sprouts — These are coated in an overwhelming onion dijon sauce so, unless you’re REALLY into that, stay away. The Schnitz greens — This salad, for lack of a better term, is a basic bitch. Things to binge on: Schnitz fries. 5 bucks is a tad pricey, but these bad boys are perfectly crispy and flavorful. EXTRA: The best time to get schnitz is during lunch and they have an excellent 2 for 1 deal you can snag on seamless. You can do that or pay double the price at Smorgasburg. The venue is really chill and they serve beer. OVERALL: I feel like Schnitz isn’t an everyday place at all, but a great spot for a unique sandwich if you’re in the mood for something different and delicious. After that, you’ll probably be addicted.

I tried the Bamberg here and fell in love. So delicious. The Bamberg has chicken, cucumbers, and dijon mustard. You’d think that this is just a normal sandwich, but it’s not. The chicken is fried to perfection. It’s so juicy, thin, and flavorful. The cucumbers and mustard are the perfect combination to have with the chicken. The bread is just okay, but I am too focused on the rest of the sandwich anyway. Yum! If you don’t like cucumbers or dijon mustard, try the Sweet Onion sandwich which has cabbage and a tzatziki sauce instead. This one is delicious as well, but IMO the Bamberg is better.

A great place to have happened upon! Schnitzels come and go, but this place does them in such a brilliant and updated fashion. super good, and not over-done! The two mini-schnitzel special is a great great value, and you get to sample two versions this way — for me today, Mrs. Child and the Bamberg, not just Chicken Schnitzel but one schnitzel served with celery root remoulade, the other with daikon and pickled cucumber and a delicious caramelized onion Dijon mustard — delicious. Add amazing fried and a lemonade, this is sandwich nirvana! Nice that the place is quiet and up-to-date in a neighborhood that sometimes can be loud. and the staff, to a T, were all so great!

«Glorious and fresh in a fried friendly way of course« This is how I would attempt to describe one of the best sammy places I have ever been to-ever. My niece doesn’t want to leave New York after eating the Yonz. I had a SLT and it was fabulous. The fried pickles with Sriracha mayo made my Monday.

Dare I say Schnitz has the best Sandwich in all of NYC? It was definitely the best thing I ate at Smorgasborg a few Summers ago. Have been meaning to try their Brick & Mortar place months ago. I’m pretty sure I saw actor Jay Baruchel there. Just. Get. The. Bamberg. The chicken schnitzel is a perfectly tender pounded filet, breaded generously & crispily fried. There’s a nice fresh pickle slaw on top & generous spread of mustard(horseradish?) on the bottom baguette. My tongue is still dancing from the different but harmonious flavors & textures. It actually kind of reminds me of a Banh Mi. Date got the Lt. Dan(shrimp cake burger, lettuce, mayo, jicama salad). He thoroughly enjoyed it. His personal French-press coffee was tasty & medium strong, with enough for two cups! We shared the Black Kale Cesear Salad(nice dressing, but wish there was more Tuscan kale mixed in with Romaine) & the Schnitz Fries(topped with garlic butter, pepper flakes, parsley, dill, & sage). The herbs were flash fried, a nice touch, but wish there a bit more herb & less pepper flakes. Extremely nice staff and Extremely fast Service(7pm on a Thursday, 3 – 4 tables. By 8:30pm, it was packed with a short line). Nice sleek but casual & comfortable restaurant design. Friendly, low-key atmosphere. And they have board games! I definitely will be back. The Russian sounds interesting, Schnitz & Waffles, Jicama salad, half a head of Cauliflower, dill cheddar biscuit, and mint lemonade. They have a large selection of beers(a gluten free one too) & tea as well.

A glorious and shining monument to the way food was and should be made. I’ve been coming to this place since it opened last year and honestly can’t say enough good things about The Schnitz. The owner(Yoni) is a very humble and soft spoken, but don’t let his humble appearance fool you. Yoni has definitely taken the art of the Simple Shnitzel to new heights of perfection and excellence. The place is very unassuming and elegant with its simplicity. The staff is always pleasant and warm. Very clean and warm bright place. The thing I can’t live without every time I visit the Schnitz is the Schnitzel and Waffles combo. And let me tell you that this is not a meal for the faint of heart. A meal designed to fill up the hungriest patron with an explosion of unbelievable flavor, all in good proportion. The waffle is airy and light with delectable crunchy edges. Topped with an enormous, freshly fried Schnitzel of chicken, finished off with sauerkraut and pickles and drizzled with BBQ sauce. Its comes with maple syrup on the side, but for the full experience get extra BBQ sauce. All in all one of my favorite spots in East Village.

Perfect mix between sit down and fast food. The meat and bread here are amazing, as well as the black kale salad. The workers are also super friendly and provides rear service. Don’t forget to try the homemade lemonade with your meal!

Schnitz NY Manhattan East Village 3pm Saturday 14th February 2015 Five Stars The dreaded day for basically everyone(maybe not if you are attractive female in a blossoming relationship). It’s snowing and below 20 degrees but It was a perfect day for me to take a bike around town. Schnitz is located next to a Citibike station on the corner of 11th and 1st. It’s a order at the counter and they bring you the food at a seat yourself table. The cashier was very friendly. The Schnitzel and Waffle($ 12) was«layered to perfection» starting with a thin pecan waffle continuing with the best schnitzel that I have ever. The breading was crunchy, well seasoned but not over salted or dry. The flatten chicken inside was cooked to perfection and juicy as hell. Then the dish took a left turn with the addition of coleslaw and pickles. The waffle and schnitzel were a match made in heaven and the schnitzel and the pickled vegetables were destined to be eternal lovers but the awkward ménage a trois was pulling me in two different directions. However, in the end, the plate was inexpensive, comforting, and delicious. I also had a misshapen Heart Donut($ 1.50) which was rather bread-y, less sweet, but satisfying. They also have some games including cards against humanity and Fake Jenga.
