I have been going to Jenny for about two years. She does amazing work with color… her ombrés and balayage are incredible! People always ask where I got my hair done and I always recommend her

I just had my haircut today by Cece, the front desk was able to get me in on a busy Saturday since I’m only in town for a short time and I really appreciated it. I needed that Aveda special treatment and Raven was excellent with her shoulder massage and hand treatment. Cece gave me a great haircut! Love my Aveda and I love New York!

Great haircut experience, and coming from me that is like 10 stars.
I am extremely picky about my cuts, have long thick hair that for some reason makes it nearly impossible for me to find a stylist I like. And when I do — only a handful ever– I am fiercely loyal…
I was going out of town and had an appointment the day I was leaving. I got a call that she was sick that am. Me: gasp! No! That’s not allowed… Stylists cannot get sick and especially a day I’m Leaving town and desperately need a cut! But, it happened. I asked for a few pointers on how she cuts my hair and called Aveda, where I get my hair products and a couple friends have had nice
Highlights and cuts. Asked for the best they had available, someone strong with long thick hair…
I was very nervous. Probably made the stylist nervous as well with my list of pointers from
My main stylist. But actually was very happy with the cut he gave even when I styled it myself (always the true test of a good cut the result when you have to blow and style it yourself) and had several compliments.
The negative: no cash tips. You can pay for the cut w a card but they do not accept tips on your card. Since I was scrambling to leave town and did not have cash on me they said it’s fine I could come back — which I still need to do next time I go for products.
I am still fiercely loyal to my main stylist but in a bind, would definitely go back to the guy who cut my hair at Aveda.
And always go here for my products and hair spray.

I have had my hair done on a regular basis for the last five years by the stylist Stephanie at Aveda E 86 st. She is exceptional in the quality of her work, her customer service, and her overall care. It took several sessions to develop the perfect color, and she did it as a professional. Her hair cuts are so good that I can go for a long time until the next, because it falls so well. She is a gem, I would never choose an alternative.

Wonderful hair cut. It was a bit expensive, and they charge an extra $ 15 if you want your hair ironed. I did like the place and will probably go back, but I’m giving 3 stars bc I tried calling many times before I had to finally do a walk in. Plus the fact that they charge extra for ironing, which of course was not mentioned. That was a real turn off. I’ve never had that charge before? At the price they are charging I would think they’d be bothered to turn on an iron.
I have very curly hair and it was clear that a blow drier just wasn’t going to do the job. I usually go for cuts in the $ 100 range, and feel this is a cheap practice! The stylist really should have said something earlier. I’d rather they be upfront about the price than feel like I’m getting nickel and dimed. What was I supposed to do throw $ 100 away at the end of my cut bc I didn’t want to spend an extra few bucks.
In the end the stylist did a fantastic job. For better or for worse I’m not going to list her name. I don’t think it is her fault, but I do feel it is a poor management decision. I will go back for my next major cut bc my stylist was attentive, and gave me the cut I’ve had in years. However, I can definitely find a place to blow out my hair and iron it for less.

I recently had my hair done for the first time at this Aveda salon and was very impressed. They definitely know how to provide their clients with a nice experience: I especially enjoyed the hand, neck and shoulder massages.
Jenny did a balayage treatment on my dirty blonde hair and it turned out just the way I wanted it. I now have a very natural sun-​kissed look that will be low maintenance.
I definitely recommend you visit Jenny for coloring!

Amy is awesome! She started cutting my hair at the Morningside Heights location, and when she transferred to the Upper East Side location, I followed. Over the past year and a half, Amy has helped me grow out a very short haircut with regular trims and advice for how the handle the awkward phases that come along with this task. Book an appointment with her, you will not be disappointed!

I continually come back to this salon because I trust the amazing, meticulous and beautiful work done by Karina. She listens to what I ask for and always delivers a stunning result! She checks in while the color is doing its thing to make sure it processes correctly and always makes any final finishing touches so you walk away feeling #onpoint.
Expect to get wonderful service from the staff as well. Hand massage during the shampoo? Yes, please!

Jenny was great! I booked an appointment for a half head of highlights and trim (with an added deep conditioner). FYI– I know a blowout usually is extra $$, but they did blow dry my hair straight (I have curly hair) so it basically was a blow out included in what I picked!
Price: Right on par with most of NYC (I do like that they also give you a little hand and neck rub included!)
Hairdresser: Jenny was perfect. I tried dying my hair blonde with box dye and it didn’t turn out exactly great. I was nervous to tell her, since most hair dressers get pissed; but she didn’t! She was very understanding and didn’t pressure me to do any extra services. That was a huge relief and I was so happy with her positive and professional attitude! It turned out great. She wasn’t super chatty because I wasn’t super chatty, which was good because I wanted to zone out and read a magazine. A+! Even Leah the hairdresser who does the wash, deep treatment and the hand massage was very nice and friendly. I felt very pampered!

For 193 $ single process with bleaching for my short pixie hair I would expect the hair colorist to give much more consultation & assurance of color I asked her exactly, BLOND. The final result is over bleaching blond and the hair is very dry like a straw after styling. After shampoo, I ve got wet half on my back, massage time is too little less than 2 – 3 minutes for 45 $ cost, no heat protection spray before blow out and no shine gloss or finishing at the adequate amount to achieve a salon touched hair. Staffs need to pay more attention to detail then they will reward the customer returns. The service & salon environment is comfortable to feel safe.
I need to come back after few washes if the color shall not be true. I need a true bright BLOND not over bleaching White undertone.

Terrible experience ! The shampoo lasted 2 minutes, then the hairdresser put something in my hair which made them greasy and heavy. The blow dry was really one of the worst I have ever had. Furthermore, the salon was dirty and messy. I could not even put my cellphone on the table in front of me because it was covered with hair.
My hair looked much better when I entered the salon than when I left. Absolutely does not worth the $ 60.

Wonderful customer service! Inclusive of neck, back, and hand massages. Very experienced staff. Steve was wonderful! They great you with tea or water and are very welcoming. Great vibe and two thumbs up. Although on the expensive side, it’s the epitome of you get what you pay for. I will for sure be back.

I’ve been going to Jessina at Scott J for almost 3 years and she is absolutely amazing! Such a lovely person and a master stylist for sure. Amazing cuts and even better color. I’m a natural brunette with short hair that I keep blonde so I rely on Jessina to make me look awesome and natural. She’s great — definitely recommend!

Literally one of the best experiences I have had at a salon. I actually just happened to stop by after work randomly during a weeknight to get some information about Aveda products (Invati system specifically). The woman who helped me, Tamika, was AMAZING! Not only was she so informative about those specific products, she made so many other recommendations which really put me at ease. My experience was so pleasant that I actually plan on making an appointment there sometime this month at the salon! Thank you Tamika!

First time customer. A friend recommended me and I was a bit skeptical (as I am of most all new hair stylists), but I had such a great appointment. Ciara was SO great and helpful! She was very kind and gave me some great insights into my crazy hair. Taylor (I think that’s her name?) did my shampoo and I almost fell asleep while she was giving me a scalp massage. Then there was a neck massage AND a hand massage. (What?! That comes with the haircut!) By the time the haircut rolled around I was insanely relaxed.
All in all I would absolutely recommend this salon if you’re looking for a high quality hair treatment and cut that won’t break the bank. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, location is easily accessible from the train or bus, and the staff are very sweet and courteous.

I’ve been going to Scott J Salon UES for over a year now, and this review is long over due. For color, cut and styling, AVERY is an absolute gem! Not only is he incredibly talented with color, cutting and blow dry, he’s just a wonderful person to be around and talk to. I look forward to each and every appointment because he’s so damn fun! He listens to everything you have to ask/​say/​request with your hair, and will offer his advice when appropriate. And as an added bonus, he’s incredibly EFFICIENT. I am in and out the door in about 90 min for partial highlight, cut, dry and style. This is a huge plus to any mom like me, who has a sitter at home. Thank you, Avery!
The entire staff at Scott J UES is wonderful– the front desk staff, the staff who provide hand massages, shampoo and shoulder massages. Everyone is kind, patient, and very attentive. I would recommend this salon to ANYONE over and over.

I’ll be returning! I actually just walked in on a Sunday to check out the salon. I was greeted very professionally and was immediately asked if I had questions, even with the salon being very busy. I wasn’t planning on a same day haircut but I was fit it. I came back shortly after, was offered tea and water and was seen right on time for my appointment.
Dominique took time to ask about my hair currently, products, what I wanted, what I liked from past haircuts. The hair wash and massage was great, and the haircut was quick but exactly what I was looking for. My stylist was straight forward, communicated the whole time with me, and explained the products as well as how to use them. The haircut, wash and style only ran me $ 65! The salon is friendly, clean, professional and my new favorite.
