Scratch DJ Academy

If you are looking for a new experience or just something fun to do you gotta try this! What a brilliant concept! DJs always look cool and you wonder how they do it?! Well, wonder no more.
Came here with co workers and had a blast. They start by introducing you to the equipment then teach you different scratches. You have time to practice each one then you come together for a battle which is the fun part. They’ll ask you to pick a DJ name so be ready!

Recently entertained some clients here and had an absolutely blast. Definitely not your steak/​wine dinner or cheesy team building event :) Our instructor, DJ Max Carnage, was fantastic and took the time to not only teach us the proper methods of DJing/​scratching, but started with the history of the genre, walked us through the equipment and answered our many questions.
The Academy allowed us to cater in our own food and drinks, which was a big win as well.

Instructors are full of themselves. Classes are over priced. Real yuppie spot. Betyer off going to iar. If you dont commit to more classes by half way through the session the djs bs the session. Lots of these reviews here are probably fake or employees or some rich kids who want to be kool. Its Not what jam master jay was about, and saying this place is the best is like saying eminem or Elvis are the real hiphop or rock kings. STOP

Love this place and the folks who teach here. Took a freebie intro class and then a real course. The teachers know their stuff and bring in some heavy hitters as guests. During the semester you’re in class, you can come by whenever there isn’t a class and practice there. Love these folks.

I grew up during the early 90s hip hop scene and I have always wanted to work a turntable and learn some scratching techniques.
I signed up for an intro 2-​hour class. The school is very convenient and close to Cooper Union. They are on the second floor. Once inside the school, I felt completely comfortable. Lots of couches for lounging around and meeting like-​minded folks. The class has about 15 turntable stations. And in the front of the class is where Theodore (a scratch legend) taught our class.
He showed us how to maneuver the turntable, what to do with the needle, how to fade and transition and some easy scratch techniques like baby scratch and also drag.
It was a totally fun class and the instructors were super nice, helpful and cool to work with. They showed us how to scratch (which isn’t too hard but getting it in tune with the beat is another story).
I had an awesome time here and I would definitely come back for more classes. So if you think scratching might be in your future, I would suggest this place. very hands-​on, nice and chill vibe here.

I went through the Scratch’s DJ certification program over the course of about a year. It was an incredible experience. Scratch has great instructures, really well structured courses, and good equipment. The classes are really reasonably priced given what you learn, the small class size, and the number of instructors and assistants involved in each class. Whether you are looking to become a professional working DJ or just looking to learn how to DJ, I can’t recommend the Scratch experience more.

For the classes they get the best of the best to teach. And they have guest teachers and perform for the students at the end of the lesson. I was with my friend at the reception desk, but it sounded awesome.
They also hold parties and have private lessons.
Depending on the class or private lesson and how much you purchase ahead of time, each hour can be as low as $ 60. The highest being around $ 100.
Teaches all ages!

Great way to learn how to be a DJ! Great class schedules, and great instructors. We took classes just for the heck of it, and I’ll tell you, I have a whole new respect for DJ’s, that is a lot of work!
