I absolutely love Serendipity! It has been a while since being here. Luckily we went at 4pm so the wait wasn’t too bad, I think 30 – 40 minutes. We ordered the frozen hot chocolate, fries, and a scoop of pistachio ice cream. So their speciality is the frozen hot chocolate, and this was my first time trying this drink but to me it just tasted watery… I wasn’t very impressed with it. But I LOVE the fries! Also I asked them if I could get one scoop of pistachio ice cream and they made a special one for me. I paid $ 4.50 and it was huge!!! It was 3x the normal size of a one-scoop sundae! The pistachio ice cream was sooo tasty, yummy! Love the desserts here. The only thing that weirds me out about the place is the weird tacky décor! My first time being upstairs there was this CREEPY mirror and weird disco ball in the corner of the room. Also downstairs there was this weird chair on the ceiling that reminded me of the Ring, ughhhh creepy! Not a big fan of the décor lol. And I wouldn’t go back for the frozen hot chocolate, but will be back for other things here!

Surprisingly, it wasn’t crowded on a Sunday night. I was playing tourist with my friend from Denver, so we obviously needed to get a frozen hot chocolate. They’re massive though, I recommend sharing one instead of getting your own. Definitely worth the experience.

The frozen hot mint chocolate was like drinking instant hot chocolate from an overpriced vending machine. I’m not surprised the Oreo Express Float tasted marginally better after tasting the ovaltine clone. Carrot cake wasn’t celestial but moist. It wasn’t overly sweet. Pleasant. 15 to 20 minute wait. Overall opinion… save your money!

For all those Serendipity movie lovers, this is a must visit spot when in New York. We stopped by after an early dinner around 7. There was maybe a 30 minute wait, which ended up being much shorter than expected. We didn’t get seated at the Serendipity table, unfortunately(the wait for that is pretty outrageous) but it was still a cool experience ordering the famous frozen hot chocolate. There is a $ 10 minimum per person, so we ordered a $ 15 frozen hot chocolate and I ordered a Caffe Tiffany, because, well, why the hell not? SERVICE: The host and our server treated us very kindly and took good care of us, although they were sometimes a little scarce. Regardless, we did get everything we needed and they were all very nice. However, service was a tad slow. I guess they assumed since we weren’t ordering real food(just dessert) that there was no need to rush. DRINKS: Frozen Hot Chocolate — overpriced but the dessert is enormous. It’s literally just a large whip cream coated chocolate milkshake/ice cream. Nothing special in particular. Caffe Tiffany — literally just espresso, whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. The description made it sound fancier, but nope. I’m not sure how many shots of espresso they poured in the drink coined the same name as me, but I was up pretty late that night. It’s a pricey dessert but a price to pay for a special experience. Although the drinks weren’t anything special, I can’t say I regret enjoying a beverage or two in this unique venue.

Ok food. Cute atmosphere. Confused staff. The place gets crowded and the wait times are long(45min to an hour on weekends). We had lunch here followed by their infamous frozen hot chocolate dessert. The staff wasn’t so nice, especially one incompetent woman in particular, who was bumping into guests while serving food and literally spilled an entire sundae(whipped cream and all) all over one of the restaurant guests. Lol she didn’t apologize and just ran back into the kitchen. It was absurd, we were all pretty shocked! Our server was great, I don’t recall his name however he had a man-bun. It’s cute and all but I don’t plan on visiting again! Go once. Experience it. Leave.

Serendipity is in the ‘sweetest’ part of Manhattan where Dylan’s Candy Shop, Sprinkles, and the outside cupcake ATM are located. I’ve heard about the hour waits, but somehow we waited only 10 minutes on a Friday night. Luck? We ordered the 2 best desserts– Frozen hot chocolate and Coward’s size Banana Split(I do not know who in their right minds would order the regular size). Frozen hot chocolate was basically chocolate water with crushed ice. I do not recommend. The banana split on the other hand, I would totally recommend. It’s a sugar mountain with 3 flavors of ice cream– chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, banana nuts, chocolate powder, glazed with chocolate syrup and finished with whip cream and a cherry on top, and a banana somewhere inside. Expect the your life expectancy to drop several years. Too sweet, and WAY too much especially for a coward’s size. The restrooms are rather interesting with a pulldown flush handle in midair. Note $ 9 minimum order per person.

Meant to write a review a few months ago, but finally getting to it. Went there for a dinner and the line was ridiculous! Put in our name on the wait list and had to wander close by and get a quick bite to beat the hunger of a 2 hour wait. Place is small as a shoe box. We were ushered through the cramped first floor to the upstairs dining area which was just as cramped. I under the movie nostalgia and meaning, but the place is overrated. We thought that ordering the Country Meatloaf(with mashed potatoes and gravy) and Shake, Batter & Bowl(half-a-chicken, deep-fried and oven-roasted, served with french fries) would cure our hangri-ness. Although these foods were more of comfort foods that were filling, we were hit with food envy seeing better looking dishes deployed to other tables. Saving grace for this place was the Peanut Butter Frrrozen Hot Chocolate(bc we love peanut butter). This was amazing. We should just ordered the rich, frozen delight and called it a day. We never finished the Frrrozen Hot Choco, but that is worthwhile delight of the evening.

NOT good. I’m a true New Yorker born and raised 30years and have never come due to the«line». The wait is atrocious about 45 – 1 hour depending on the day/time. I came on a Sunday night and waited 45 mins for rude service, they have a huge discrepancy between who answers the phone(older lady) and the hostess(who has a RBF resting bitch face). This entails the older lady telling everyone no reservations and the younger woman with RBF getting yelled at and yelling back. The scenery is poorly decorated almost antique-y with trinkets and things to look at, very TOURISTY. I only tried the dessert the lemon ice box pie(okay maybe 3⁄5) and the famous frozen hot chocolate(2⁄5). I desperately wanted to like this frozen hot chocolate but found myself comparing it to the cappuccino blast from Dunkin doughnuts. The cappuccino blast from DD’s is WAYYY better. My last words overall… don’t waste your time.

I absolutely loved the frozen hot chocolate. I’m not a whipped cream type of person so I scooped that off right after I took the picture. It was just a delightful chocolate heaven. The chocolate cake on the other hand was just so dry. It still had the chocolate madness, but not the moisture it needs.

Serendipity is a really fun and unique restaurant. The staff are great, the décor is wonderful and the food is excellent. It is absolutely worth visiting and waiting in line for — although tonight we went in at 11.30 pm so there was no wait for once. I was a little disappointed with my frozen hot chocolate which in the past has been phenomenal. However, tonight it wasn’t blended well and had thick chunks of ice. The cream was also thrown on with no thought. Usually it’s a masterpiece. Still, everyone is entitled to one slightly off night, so I forgive them, and will definitely be back.

Worst $ 15 spent on a dessert. Not dessertS, A dessert. I got the chocolate sundae and mind you they come in one size. The cup was as big as my face. I just wish they had a smaller size available. On to the actual quality of the sundae, it was way too sweet. When the sundae arrived, it was already melting and dripping out of the cup. My friend got the frozen hot chocolate and it was just downright water with chocolate syrup! It was watery and bland. I wouldn’t recommend this place for what’s on their«popular» list.

Awww Serendipity. How can one not love this place? It’s a dreamland of colors and everything amazing. Don’t skip the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate or any of their desserts. After all, this is the place to be. I came for sweets after dinner elsewhere, so I can’t comment on their savory menu items. I got the Crème de la Crème cheesecake and it was delicious. It was fluffy and smooth. Of course, I paired it with a Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and it was my kind of thang! I was too confident, thinking I could finish it by myself, but I needed help with that gigantic chocolatey goodness. Service here was amazing as well. Our server gave us the rundown of everything and checked up on us every often. Amazing runners that would serve every guest from top to bottom. No complaints whatsoever. Great experience; I would definitely come back to fulfill my sweet tooth cravings.

I’ve read here on Unilocal that this place is famous for its«frozen hot chocolates» and I’ve been wanting to try this place for ages because of that. Unfortunately, I didn’t want to wait hours in line for that so I waited for the hype to die down. I came here with a friend one Thursday afternoon to grab a bite to eat. The venue had two levels of seating and there was even a little counter shop by the front register as you walk in. We made our way through this narrow staircase to where we were seated upstairs. We were then presented with a menu the size of a newspaper spread. I settled for the bacon cheddar burger with a frozen hot chocolate and my friend had an egg dish. The frozen hot chocolate was pretty large in size and so was the bacon cheese burger. Unfortunately, I finished the frozen hot chocolate before my burger even came and didn’t even get a chance to finish my whole burger because I was too full. Overall, the frozen hot chocolate was amazing and the burger was a bit on the oily, greasy and messy side. Would I come back in the future? Maybe.

Well, I was snookered by Hollywood again and there will be no Oscars ceremony for S3 anytime soon. We were there for a special occasion(a birthday) with a month-in-advance reservation but I’m shocked it is ever this busy besides getting the label of Tourist Trap™ for life. As we approached and narrowly walked up to the hostess stand as swarms of people stood on either side and watched in disgust as we dare get a seat before them, we were told it was about a 10 minute wait and it ended up being roughly that. We went back outside for a bit on a mild winter night where other large groups of out of towners strolled up to the door, found out the true wait for non-reservations was an hour plus and then stomped away in disgust. As our name is called on time, we then again head down the narrow aisle of angry waiting patrons to see that you too can get a table quickly if you planned it all in advance. We were promptly seated upstairs, a less crowded and noisy counterpart to what was going on downstairs, and sat a table near lots of mirrors on the walls. Sure the space is funky but it just felt kind of rundown and dirty. The décor could use a mild update in certain parts. Nothing about the space is impressive, just quirky. We were greeted by a nice gentleman who wanted to find out if we were just having dessert or going full monty, once he finds out we are having food as well, he plops down not one but two waters each for us. Now this is the only thing I wish I would have done a little research on in advance. Of course they are known for their frozen drinks but I would have expected the food to be so much better after seeing articles about the most expensive burger being served here. I made the mistake of eating here and that will never happen again. We decided to begin everything with the lead actor of the show, a frrrozen peanut butter hot chocolate. And like the expensive lead it was, it didn’t disappoint and did its job. Topped with a mountain of frothy whip and just the right balance of chocolate and peanut butter, this is why there is a line out the door to get in. If we had only just stopped right there, this review would have been different. But then dinner is about to be served. Or is it? I know they are busy ALLTHETIME but a 35 minute wait for your food is pretty subpar even for the most bustling of places. I wanted to ask our waiter where it was but he seems to have disappeared after bringing the frozen hot chocolate. Then, when it finally comes out, both of us were pretty disappointed. I had ordered The Catcher in the Rye which quite literally felt like half of what it should have been, even though it was an optical illusion because it was stacked so high. While I was never offered another side for the sandwich, it did come with a nice side salad but that same lettuce should have been in the sandwich and not off-color iceberg. My wife ordered the veggie burger and there was more cheese than patty with some odd tasting plantain chips(we think) that were far too sweet to compliment the burger itself. So bottom line, stick to the desserts(and don’t share because there is a minimum charge per person) but the food was really subpar for what it should be. You can’t even shop at the kitschy area downstairs because it can be so jammed pack so we high tailed it out of there after browsing for 30 seconds and learned our lesson, nothing is as good as Hollywood makes it out to be, except dessert… that’s always freaking delicious.

Finally got to try their frozen hot chocolate! Did it blow my mind? Not really, but I thought it was still good albeit pretty sweet. The place is super cute and quirky. I came here with a friend for late night dessert on a weeknight and the wait was around 20 minutes. Along with the frozen hot chocolate, we also shared a cheesecake, which was just okay. Overall, not life-changing. Worth a try though!

I came here with a friend recently and I was able to make reservations(on a weekend, no less) so that was good at least. We visited around Valentine’s Day so the restaurant was decorated with tons of cute hearts, X’s and O’s and such. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, where it was quite cramped and I sat right up against the wall with very little space. I really wanted to try one of the sundaes but my friend ordered the Frozen Hot Chocolate and since it was so huge, we shared that. The presentation of the dessert was quite spectacular, complete with lots of whipped cream and chocolate shavings, but the taste did not live up to how it looked. It sort of tasted like a watered down version of a chocolate milkshake, though I did like it better when mixed with the whipped cream. It was quite creamy and had a nice consistency at least. We then ordered the foot long hot dog with cheddar cheese and bacon to share, which you would think wouldn’t take too long to come out. We ended up waiting 20+ minutes for the hot dog! I think it would have been better if we added the chili to the mix, but oh well. The hot dog meat was pretty good — Quite flavorful, juicy and well seasoned. And of course cheese and bacon makes anything taste better! The service, at first seemed decent and our waiter seemed nice and friendly. However, as our time in the restaurant continued, the waiter became increasingly busy and it was difficult to get his attention, or the attention of any other server for that matter. After finally getting our hot dog, we wanted to ask for the check soon after so that we wouldn’t have to wait even longer and that still took awhile to do. For the most part, the waiters rushed around and didn’t really give us individual attention as the meal went on. I would only go back to try one of the sundaes, preferably with the Blackout Chocolate Cake because I love me some ice cream and chocolate!

I’ve been meaning to stop by serendipity for years now. The long lines were always off putting to me, so I held off from going. I finally came in today with a friend after making a reservation last week. I have to say that I was a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The place is cute enough with quirky designs and novelty knick knacks all over the shop. We started with the frrrozen hot chocolate, which came out very quickly. Very impressive looking, big portion size. Definitely couldn’t drink it on my own, so I shared with my friend. It was good, but not anything to write home about. Neither of us were that hungry, so we decided to split the foot long hot dog with cheese and bacon. I thought it was pretty good, probably should have added the chili. I was really disappointed with the slow service. Our hot chocolate came out immediately but then we had to wait nearly a half hour to bring out a hot dog. I kept watching the kitchen like a hawk to ask our waiter where our food was. He was moving so quickly and didn’t bother to at least stop by to let us know what was going on. I finally managed to get his attention only when he was taking the order from the table next to us. If I hadn’t flagged him down, he probably wouldn’t have bothered saying anything to us. Never stopped by to see if we needed anything or if our meal was alright. My advice is to stop by off peak during the week and stick to dessert and drinks. I may come back to try the strawberry fields Sunday, but that will be it for me.

To die for amazing! I went a few months back and had a great time with friends over their famous Frozen Hot Chocolate. I highly recommend you taste this drink! I shared a few appetizers and they were all great, It’s more of a quick-bite on the go place. The décor is very cute and makes you feel like you’re in a doll house. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Manhattan, very touristy

I have been to this serendipity location for the second time yesterday. The first time I went was about 2 and ½ years ago. If I was writing this review then, they would definitely be getting a 5⁄5. However my experience yesterday was a total disappointment. The first time I went, I got the forbidden broadway sundae, and the frozen hot chocolate. The desserts were HUGE and out of this world! The forbidden broadway sundae had a black forest cake in it that was absolutely delicious! However, when I went yesterday and got the same things, the portions looked half the size, and the whole comfort of the dessert was gone. It was no longer enjoyable. I still recommend you guys try this place out because for first time goers it will be a nice experience. The food on the other hand here is very mediocre. Nothing bursting with flavor or enjoyable to eat here. It is a dessert place so I wasn’t expecting top notch food to be served here anyways.

«Pricy with a caution» Everyone loves ice cream right? Of course you do! But this ice cream comes with a hefty price tag! This ice cream place is a expensive one with some of the ice cream dishes costing around 10 – 16 bucks! They do offer you apt of ice cream per serving you probably won’t be able to finish the ice cream because it’s that much ice cream! Coming here for the food isn’t what I suggest, they offer classic American dishes(burgers, fries, etc) but it’s so-so, so I highly suggest you go only for the dessert! «So you mean everyone has to eat?» If you go with a group everyone has to pay a minimum of 8 bucks I order to stay at the table, so no «freeloading» in a sense. Also this location is always packed with people waiting for you to finish so you really can’t enjoy your ice cream the way you would want to because of the busyness of the store so the best thing you go try would be going on weekdays «Overall» Come here when someone special is in town, birthday, or maybe for a bar mitzvah after party because this place is for special occasions.
